  1. I always thought they got rid of Zander because he and Tamara's Carly had great chemistry; much more than she had with MB/Sonny. Or maybe he just ran out of story. But I do remember the Zander and Carly sparks.
  2. ‘Shape of Water’ Leads Critics’ Choice Film Nominations The Critics Choice nominations are out. And along with The Shape of Water, here comes The Post. I admit to being pleased to see The Big Sick pick up a few nominations (especially Best Original Screenplay); movies in that vein so seldom get any attention. And I unabashedly loved it.
  3. Yikes. To Kim, and all in the fires, be safe.
  4. I had no idea that ever happened. Thanks for posting. Now you know I'm going to have to search to see if they ever had any dialog together...
  5. I'm sorry to hear this - he's a hometown artist for me and part of the music scene when I was younger (9:30 Club, saw him there a couple of times.)
  6. AC/DC guitar legend Malcom Young has died, age 64 *Posted at the same time as BW Manilowe* I'll leave it, links to the memorial posts on Twitter.
  7. There's also one called The Electricity War. That's close in title to The Current War, so maybe the same? There was a PBS one, Master of Lightning, a long time ago; there's tons of stuff on YouTube. I almost went down the rabbit hole...
  8. Once this song is in my head it's damn near impossible to get it out. It's not a song or an artist I ever really listened to, but I guess by the power of its sheer existence it manages to pop into my brain and stay there. Press play at your own peril: And then there's Word Up! I actually like it, more so when one is free to dance, but not enough for it to get stuck on my head in a loop:
  9. Aw. I love Tangled. But then I'm a sucker for just about anything with Zachary Levi. It will be interesting to see what happens to his career now that he's part of the Superhero universe (Shazam.) But no, I don't think Moore is headed for stardom. And I also have never seen A Walk to Remember.
  10. Where the hell is Curtis? He's Jason Miller's one friend in town, and who just happens to be an investigator. Curtis should be in this story as the one person on Jason Miller's side, no conflicts. There's even a possible secondary story with Jordan and the Curtis / Jason Miller connection, being that she's looking into it as a police matter as far as the DNA and finger prints. So where is he? Never mind that I really like looking at Curtis. He's so pretty. So now Nell is going to blackmail a cop. Yeah, that'll go well. I feel bad for NLG having to croak out her lines. You'd think it would warrant an aside mention. (Nasty cold you have there.) Today was boring.
  11. Steve Carrell and Ray Romano seem to be doing well for themselves. Especially Carrell - man is talented. And I think The Big Sick is going to get Romano more roles. Also from a soap: Tommy Lee Jones - One Life to Live.
  12. Condolences to those here, and to Jimmy Fallon, who have recently lost a parent. Very unexpectedly I lost my Mom in June. We spoke on the phone every night, had been doing so for years. To talk about nothing, or everything. She sounded fine, happy and well; already teasing me about my birthday a full 6 weeks early. But that was Mom; she'd start talking about Christmas during September and would finish her shopping before Halloween. She woke up about 5am, short of breath and dizzy. She called 911 but by the time they got there she was gone. And no one quite knows why. She just... stopped. I wish Jimmy - and my fellow posters - well. I've learned there is no set grieving time - it takes as long as it takes.
  13. Since I'm now totally convinced we'll never learn Penny's last name, or I guess perhaps maiden name now, messing with her family history somehow doesn't bother me. Somehow it fits. There's a great blooper where Leonard asks her what her last name is and she whines back "I don't know!"
  14. I'm beginning to like Dr. Finn McBain with Anna. The writing for them has improved and it appears to be heading to a slow build rather than insta-love. I also appreciate the snark, something that's been sorely missing from GH for awhile.
  15. Add me to the chorus of people liking the ending. For the first time in years I'm looking forward to the next episode. Interestingly enough the last time may have been SBu's dock n' roll. I do think the writing and the pacing have improved this past week or two. About time. Burton is doing good work (I can't believe I just wrote that.) I'm curious to see if this results in Miller upping his game.
  16. I miss Zen Rafael. He was hot; douche Rafael is so not. And I still miss Michael, guess I always will. Adam as a love interest just feels like Jane is treading water. I hold out a slim hope that when this show reaches its end they go full telenovela and it turns out that for some reason Michael's death was faked. Or a secret twin! (Yes, I'm grasping.)
  17. Affleck is one of those actors I go back and forth on. Most of the time he does seem kind of insufferable and he's okay on screen. He'll never, ever be considered a great actor. But after Kevin Spacey's Inside the Actor's Studio, I rank Affleck's as being the second funniest* episode. I kept thinking why can't we get that guy in a movie? *Yes, ahead of Robin Williams. Williams was having one his I'm trying too hard days. It took two hours and I still don't think he ever gave a real answer to any of the questions. Still love and miss him though; he was an amazing actor.
  18. Way, way back in the day my school went on a field trip (6th grade). We went to the theater. It was my first live play experience; a musical called Purlie and it starred Robert Guillaume. Afterwards I was so thrilled, awed and excited I didn't sleep at all that night; I had found something incredible. Rest in peace, Mr. Guillaume. Thank you.
  19. I think Trevor has found his sweet spot. Maybe he should consider coming out from behind the desk... (Oh, and I'm now in love with him.)
  20. I've been a Tragically Hip fan since the 90's when I heard Courage (for Hugh MacLennan) used in the sound track for The Sweet Hereafter (what a sad movie...) I immediately had to find more of their music - I love them. RIP Gord; you were amazing.
  21. "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People. It's not currently on my play list, hits a little close these days. But I have to admit the first year or two it was out, I really liked the song. Lyrics - not so much.
  22. Oops. Think I misread - never mind. Nothing to see here. *Note to self - do not post right after waking up from a nap.*
  23. Just finished watching. That scene in the kitchen with TER and JL was a thing of beauty. I watched it twice; that was some great acting - so real. I guess the Thank you note story line was to bring in some comedy but I think it would have worked better if they had just used it as the tag, with the recipients reading them - especially Charlie's. The rest felt out of place. I loved Junior stepping in to help; he's growing up.
  24. Amen. I used to wonder about Julia Roberts win for Erin Brockovitch. Then a couple of years ago, I saw parts of it again, on TV. There's a scene where she says almost nothing - she's driving and listening on the phone to how much her child has changed and grown. It's being delivered in a cheery voice, all good news, etc. But as she listens, conflicts over what's she's doing - bits of sadness, uncertainty - all flutter across her face. I think that's the scene that gave her the win. Even though I like Roberts, I am of the opinion she does have a limited range and is never able to quite disappear into a character. But she knocked that moment out of the park.
  25. 30 Rock was only okay. And without Alec Baldwin it might not have been good at all. Reboots - I don't get it. Especially when they decide to ignore a last season and pretend that none of those things happened. They did; we all saw it. A new Dynasty seems especially unnecessary; the original was iconic 80"s kitsch so I really don't see the point. Is the well really that dry?
