  1. I love this show and Jon is adorable. I had no idea he was so personable that when I first heard about this show, I was sure it was going to be a lame show filled with self-indulgent mugging for the camera. But no! Jon knows what he’s doing. Kristina is growing on me. I do like her design style and pretty much every couple/homeowner has said how both Jon and Kristina “get” them. So, I have no complaints about the work they’ve done (except that beach chicken coop - the black paint was the only thing good about that, IMO). The 1970s farmhouse didn’t bug me either - it still fits the premise of the show and they did breathe new life into it. The horse property one was stunning and fit those owners perfectly. The only homeowner that seemed iffy with the results was the wife of the couple who bought the house of the wife’s grandfather. Her reactions were confusing to me - she wasn’t overly excited about it and from her facial expressions and body language seemed to dislike what was done to it, but then she’d flip flop and say how much she loved it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway, I binge-watched all of Season 1 last night - was so excited to see the afters! Can’t get enough of Jon!
  2. My dad died on SBS too - 17 years ago and I can't tell you what the date was, but I do remember that N'Sync and Britney Spears were on the TV doing the halftime show when I got the call. I think about that every SBS since. Just watched the episode again. If you look at Jack in the hospital scene, he is sweating - already looking worse for him. I'm ok with Wallowing Kate, Kevin and Randall - we're all works in progress. There are things that I didn't see in myself 10 years ago that I am all too painfully aware of now. That's part of what makes this show so good - it is so good at making the characters human. Except Beth - she is superwoman and I love her, but she ain't real...Miguel is pretty 1D. Toby - has the patience of a saint and yes, there are real people out there like him. My husband is one. He sees the good in me that I don't see in myself. I think Toby does that for Kate. Sorry, didn't mean to get all personal here! I'm a bit miffed at the hospital scene with dead Jack on the bed - seriously? A hospital would leave the door to his room or curtains around his bed open like that with no one milling about or covering him up? I cry foul. Mandy Moore was exquisite at times like the moment when the doctor told her about Jack and when she broke the news to Miguel and parts of the scene when she re alized Jack was really dead, but at times I did feel that it was teetering on an actress-who-knew-she-had-to-deliver-because-it-was-supposed-to-be-a-big-moment kind of feel. I felt that way about Young Kate and Young Randall's performances too. Justin H. is not on the same level as the other actors in the show, but I still think he did ok in here. I did see a little moisture in his eyes, though no tears we're falling to wipe away. I cried way more during the rehab episode than I did during this one if that counts for anything.
  3. This season seems boring already. The only contestant I've really liked thus far is JChosen. Kawan was good too, but he seemed more affected. Also, very surprised that JChosen and Troy both picked Gwen, esp. the latter. I wonder if they see resonated with her more re: what she said to them and also she is the only one, I think, that has had recent commercial success. I know Alicia just put out an album in 2016 too, but it didn't generate quite the same level of buzz that Gwen's did. Love Alicia Keys - she's very much the adult in that group, right, and very on point with her observations. She is gorgeous without make-up. Gwen, on the other hand, is looking like she's had some fillers and other work done. :( Just so I am not just commenting on the women, love Adam's striped jacket and his dance moves. :)
  4. Peoples, go easy on Kate - the thing about this show is that the characters are, in many ways, very realistic. Kate is a significantly overweight woman in her mid-30s - I'm guessing she doesn't have a while lot of self-esteem or confidence. She's going to make mistakes. She sees this guy as wanting her - but maybe he is all kinds of wrong for her. She can't see that. I'm guessing she has not had someone be this aggressive/assertive just to be with her - can you imagine what a boost to her ego that is? This is like a Harlequin novel coming to life for her. She's only human. Worried for Randall. Disliked Jack when I first started watching this show, but he's grown on me. I love how he just tries so hard to make things right for those he loves. Knowing about his impending death makes all of his scenes all the more poignant.
  5. haha, I love Sloane/AT&T girl! Anyway, loved this episode. I haven't been hooked on a network TV drama since...Lost, but This Is Us is giving me the feels from Rebecca/Kate to Randall/William to Kevin/Randall - all of them. I avoided this show for weeks, but gave it a go and well, here I am. btw, if Toby had a heart attack - would they use a defibrillator if they were operating on his heart - maybe, but would his whole body jerk like that if they were using the defibrillator directly on his heart?
  6. Aw, I loved Hannah's performance! She has a lot of passion and talent. I find her kind of quirky - like you don't expect her to sing the way she does, but then she does and wow. Shalyah - really impressive BUT...no more Beyonces or JHuds or MCareys, please! Boring. Owen - he really feels the songs he sings. Would sit and watch him sing. Might even pay a little bit. Caroline - I like her voice and phrasing, etc, I just can't watch her sing because - cognitive dissonance...the lyrics were just too mature for the way she looks and even then, her age. What I would really like to see someday onThe Voice is a season where the coaches don't get to meet their singers AT ALL until the very end. Even the audience has no clue. Would love to see the contestants shrouded in mystery a la undercover-cops-on-true-crime-shows-hiding-their-identities. Now that would truly be all about The Voice...
  7. Marivic and family - they are a solid, loving family, but Marivic has a real attitude problem. However, when she met that one plumber dude or whatever he was, I think she was feeling the pressure from dad and so she went into this meeting with the dude already hating him and I think the guy sensed that so he went down in flames. I don't think doing this show did her any favours at all.
  8. I know I'm late to the party, but I thought Jenna slayed it with Pony! She was so fun to watch - and LL's expressions were cracking me up! It was like he didn't know how to react to her performance, lol. I thought Channing was cute and all, but dude is expressionless.
  9. "I also want to know what happens when Emily tells her family. There is something very strange about that. " Pure speculation and maybe a bit out there, but maybe Emily is actually gay and is struggling with that and hence the no including friends or telling family so she has no one to talk her out of it. Beside the deep voice, she does seem rather masculine the way Mitch seems a little feminine.
  10. I thought the Tell All was awkward overall. The host was a little hard hitting with her questions, but at the same time this is "reality" TV - she's not supposed to be interviewing the GOP candidates or the CEO of Kinder Morgan. My fave couple is still Noon and Kyle - he is really smitten with her and she seems to be the nurturing kind - they seem perfect together. Aleks and Josh - still awkward, but very nice kids. I wonder if she went through with the wedding because she felt bad about turning around and going home. They are both so very young. I have this feeling that in 5 years, Aleks will go through a mid-mid-life crisis and let her suppressed (not oppressed or repressed) wild side out once again. Fernando and Caro - I like them, but I still don't understand the attraction that Caro has for Fernando. She seems to miss home and family and friends a lot - I hope she finds a productive outlet for herself! Melanie and Devar - I don't like either of them at all, but if I had to choose one, I think Hunter is the most likeable. :) Loren and Alexei - I think she amps it up for the cameras or other people, but when it's just the two of them, I think she is probably more subdued and more likeable. I wonder if Alexei will tire of her, though. Mark and Nikki - he is emotionally (and physically) stuck at whatever age he was in the 80s or 90s when his 1st wife left him. I think it was someone here who said that he is hoping to right whatever wrongs he felt had been done to him then with Nikki (or something to that effect) and I think that is so true. I also still stand by what I said earlier about Nikki not being some meek, subservient thing. She's got a temper that we saw very brief glimpses of and poor, unsuspecting Mark doesn't know what's coming his way.
  11. I used the same words when I was telling my mom about this couple, lol! Really, Nikki is young to a point, but I think people are falling back on that Asian stereotype of a meek, subservient, controllable thing. I don't think that is Nikki at all - I haven't read any comments where people have observed her restrained (for now) strong-willedness. When she disagrees with Mark, hasn't anyone seen how angry she actually gets? She's holding back for now because she wants that green card, but when they've become more comfortable around each other, I don't think she's going to hold back at all. Generalizing here, but Filipino women will do the work - cook, have sex, clean up after their naive American husbands. But they (the husbands) are a way out to a better life for these women, eventually. The Philippines is really a matriarchal society and Mark is unwittingly poised to relive what he went through with his first marriage (sans kids).
  12. Filipino singers are great at mimicry - look at how big karaoke is in that country! That said, the group is pretty entertaining to watch. I don't want to listen to them talk because it's awkward for everyone. I bet a lot of their video viewcounts are a whole lot of Filipinos - they're loud and they're proud! :D RE: their choice of dress - if you look at what they're wearing, they're a lot more modest than what you typically see out there. They're shorts aren't even that short. I wonder how popular they'd be if they weren't singing covers...They're definitely malleable so they could go far in the world of Simon Cowell. All of the other groups were boring to listen to and watch so 4th Impact/Power stood out for me. Anton - he's painful to watch too, but such a sweet personality. Will he be able to withstand the pressure and the stress? He seems awfully fragile to me. Bupsi - love her personality and she's got a slammin' body and a gorgeous/smoky voice, but I hope she does more than that nasty shtick because she's already becoming a caricature of herself. Louisa - she reminds me a lot of Joss Stone. Pretty, she has the x-factor and I think she'd do well with original songs. Che - still no presence, but wow, nice voice. Seann - is the world ready for Seann??? I don't know! Keira - gorgeous, but on the boring side so far. Mason - great entertainment value, but very Justin Bieberish in terms of ego and entitlement. Seems to be doing some damage control, but don't know if it's enough... Alien Uncovered - lame name change; 2nd in the groups in terms of interestingness, but they're like the Spice Girls on energy drinks. I think they are a bit of a mess, though their voices have more personality than the girls in 4th Impact.
  13. Tim vs Ellie - we all know that The Voice - after the blinds - is not so much about The Voice anymore as it is about the whole package. Tim doesn't have much stage presence, and what he has is kind of awkward and creepy. He just doesn't seem comfortable in his own skin.. Ellie has a Katy Perry vibe, but slightly grittier which I think I like and she has confidence which comes shining through. Glad that Pharrell stole Tim - maybe he can channel that awkwardness into something weird and cool. Tyler vs Zach - Tyler turned me off when he turned on the waterworks in the blinds. Zach has more of the "it factor" than Tyler does, but he's kind of cheesey. So, I didn't care who won this battle or not...actually, I think Tyler's hair should have won. Dustin vs James - James is b.o.r.i.n.g.- let loose, man! Too closed off - I don't think he connected with anyone. Dustin did a much better job of performing and being relatable which is important on this show. No one's going to vote for you if they don't like you or relate to you in some way. Unless James can loosen up, he will be gone soon, I'm sure! Celeste vs Mark - loved this battle! They both brought everything they had to it, but I think Pharrell made the right choice. Celeste has a stellar voice and talent and she is gorgeous, but she herself said her passion is gospel and there's not much room for that in the pop/country market which this competition leans more towards. I love Mark and watching him perform, but he needs to dial it back a little! I hope Pharrell will help him rein it in and control all that energy. Wonder what he sounds like on a slower song. Barrett vs Dustin - I just don't hear this "tone" that Blake keeps referring to re: Barrett's voice - to me it sounds thin and reedy. Dustin has a much smoother quality that's easier to listen to. That said, Barrett has the whole package - I think he'd even be relatable and relevant in today's market and he sure is easy on the eyes. :D Jordan vs Regina - just like Barrett is relatable and relevant, I don't think Regina is at all. She has a powerhouse voice and is talented, but I just don't think the music scene these days is churning out diva-type singers like her. Jordan is so milquetoast, but glad to see him step it up a notch by moving around on stage! Out of this group, I see Barrett and grudgingly, Jordan and maybe Mark and Ellie moving farther ahead than any of the other winners.
