  1. I watched the first segment tonight. Poor Matt. James seems to have perked up a bit, but not enough to beat Victoria.

Do any of you do your own manicures? I go to the salon for dip. Love the look, but it's a tedious, boring process having to go every three weeks.

When I attempted to do my nails when I was younger, I wasn't very good, especially trying to paint the nails of my right hand.

I'm thinking I might ditch dip and just start filing my own nails, taking care of my cuticles and using a light/sheer polish on my own natural long nails. Does that sound like a good way to keep my hands pretty and nail salon-free?

I get pedicures (healthy for feet & the polish is so pretty) but do my own fingernails. I use those *very pale* pinks, like the women in the royal family wear (QEII preferred Ballet Slippers) 😸. I usually use one coat & keep my nails a teence beyond short so they have a shape.

I loved that show! The East/West college bowl games were my favorite skits. Or Peele as Obama and Key as Luther, Obama's anger translator.

They just showed that. I couldn't stop laughing as the east and west players introduced themselves (& I've seen it several times).

    Emphasis mine.

Previously, he would select across all the highest-value clues first, and he hasn't done that this time. Times I expected him to buzz in, he appeared to be merely watching. He's also getting things wrong.

It just seems strange that all the previous participants are doing less/worse than before. Surely they have the buzzer skills. I know Victoria is fast, but James was only beaten once in the last tournament, IIRC - almost never getting an answer wrong - and yet he's only won once so far and was 3rd in this last game. Maybe he simply didn't have time to prepare? But the other returnees have fallen behind, too. It's not what I expected.

Yup. This Masters is strange--IMO, not fun like the first Masters with the professor (& his "bring it!") + the comradery amongst that special group. They even humanized James (altho' he resisted at first☺️).  So, either James is somehow under the weather...or it's the Effect of Yogesh 👁️

I get the sense that James's head is not completely in this tournament. Whether from burnout or personal reasons, I don't know, but he seems unusually subdued. I am amused by the covert podium messages, and for those who hate his antics, at least he's being somewhat subtle.

Something's going on with him. I noticed it a couple nights ago. His whole demeanor has changed. This isn't the James we'd become accustomed to. Too bad cause I was counting on him to vanquish the dragon 👀.

Like almost everything else, desk chairs are designed with the average man in mind--5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing under 200 pounds per a quick Google search.  Things work pretty well for you if you fall in to the 5'7"-5'11" range.  Outside of that range is another story.  And it is difficult to find chairs rated over 200 or even 250 pounds.  I could go on a whole different rant about that.

I'm 5'3" & learned to only buy chairs at places where I can sit on them. Never noticed my feet dangling from a chair until around 2002 when we were out trying to find new furniture. I was stunned! My dining room chairs, that I bought in 1984 from Belk's (& made in western NC), fit me (& guests) perfectly. So, IMO, chair measurements have changed since then, probably catering to taller folks (e.g., men over 6'). I felt like Edith Ann sitting on chairs in furniture stores & that's the truth! 😛

  7. A couple of years ago there was an SUV ad, showing a mom with two kids in the back seat, driving like she was in a NASCAR race. These automobile commercials encourage reckless driving. Speaking of which, last month I saw 3 different school buses pull out of streets when they had to have seen me approaching on the main road. I was dumbfounded. Next time I see this, I'm going to try to get the number of the bus and report it.

I hate to keep dragging on this but truck commercials - just Grrrr. I do not want to see your fume belching mega truck splashing through pristine rivers and streams nor do I want to see them tearing up the countryside, killing god knows how many tiny eco systems. There is nothing "manly" or sporting about it. Blargh.

You ought to send this to the CEO's of the truck (& SUV) companies. I cringe when I see these vehicles being driven over streams and across desert & forestlands, crushing who knows how many miniscule creatures. Another cringeworthy sight for me is vehicles driving on beaches...same concern.

A couple years ago my gyno asked me if I'm sexual active.  I told her no.  She asked me why. I said because I don't want to be.  I think she felt bad for me but I was like trust me I'm happy with my life.

She probably asked "why" because she was concerned that it was because of a physical condition.

I'm so glad there are a lot more female gynecologists today. They're one of us & know what life is like once a month.

Peeve of the day -- it's overcast and so I won't have a chance to see the Northern Lights here tonight.  I'm too far south for them to be seen on the regular.

If you live near the metro DC area? You can count on overcast when anything exciting comes our way 🤬. We were lucky to see the eclipse, but only via the special glasses (of course, that was the *only* way to see it..but once again, cloudy skies here that day).

I'm old enough to still feel indignant that they weigh you with all your clothes on at the doctor's office.
If you're a petite person, a 3-5 extra pounds of clothes is about 4% of your total weight.
Plus, if you were a teen during the era of Twiggy…

I don't wear jewelry when I know I'll be weighed. Also, I wear light clothes and light espadrilles--no athletic shoes (+ sweater removed ahead of time) 😎.  I'm petite as well.

ETA: Back to the discussion re: thyme. I go to a nursery that has a great selection of herbs starting in late spring. My favorite herb is Lemon Thyme. It's milder than regular thyme and is very good on grilled foods. So if you don't have an Asian market, check out nearby nurseries. I plant my herbs in window "boxes" that sit on the deck floor (that's the extent of my gardening!)

Excellent point but that should be told to children of BOTH genders and it also applies to those who try to spin teasing bullying as a sign of 'friendship'!

Yes. And I'll include practical jokes as well.

My son goes to all of his wife's doctor's appointments, at her request. They don't listen to women.

I guess her doctors are all men. I've tried to have all female physicians. But today, it's so hard to get an appt (w/o having to wait over a month 🤬) that I now see a few men. Altho' I must admit my spine surgeon at Georgetown is male, but I found out why he's so kind & patient: he grew up with an older sister! She's a pediatric dentist (my PCP told me all this).

  14. When I first detected cilantro in food (in a Lean Cuisine meal), I thought it tasted like soap. But once I started eating at Thai & Vietnamese restaurants, where they add fresh cilantro and lime wedges to every plate (or bowl of pho), I started to like it. I guess I don't like it cooked *in* the food, only uncooked.

Whaaat? They were phony?  My daughter ordered me the Sketcher slip ons the other night for Mother’s Day from QVC.  I’m waiting for them.  Hope they are ok.  Where did you order from?

My sister sent me the ad link (I think it was on Facebook). It said QVC-Clark. I was going to toss in a donation bag, but these felt so awful...the worst!...under my feet that I'm tossing them in the garbage. I hope yours are coming from QVC. Still waiting for my new MasterCard. Went back to the bank to get more cash. Geez ..this is like stepping back into the old days before I used my card for almost everything 😫

  16. Well...as JT Macc used to say, I think it's time we moved on. I miss that guy. Did we burn him out? 😊 The crappy sandals arrived (from the fake QVC-Clark ad that my sis & I ordered). She got a refund. I haven't heard anything from my MasterCard. I think somebody made these shoes in his basement workshop.

Of the men my age in the U.S., 50K died in Vietnam and another 50K committed suicide when they returned. So I figured my prince charming was gone, and if I wanted to be married, I'd have to not be so picky.

This is probably an irrelevant statistic, but it was a common excuse at the time, and not entirely unrelated to my experiences.

I remember when I realized this tragic loss of so many men affected a lot of women of my generation, including me. It was probably the same for women in the 1940's (& other war eras).
