  1. Completely agree with the above! Every criminal empire gets to a point where they have to launder the cash - and actually run a legitimate business. And, by golly, legitimate businesses can make money (Exxon Mobil, Walmart, even your local grocery store!) so just use your real estate empire to pay your bills and build that empire. No need to tempt fate and getting arrested. [Though, this path would mean no more fun heists to watch. Okay, so don't completely eliminate that.] Google is your friend - no cost and I know that they should have internet access (J was using a laptop when Deran came in to tell him that he has a payroll tax problem.) That being said, I'd help Deran keep his books clean and tidy. No cash needed if you catch my drift. Yowza! I did have a good laugh at Billy's attempt to bond with Deran at the bar then Deran comes right out and says: "I'm gay" to Billy's encouraging to date "lots of women". Then, Billy says: "Oh, I think I'm more of a hetero bottom since I like being bossed around." Fantastic line which got a tip of the hat from this ghey.
  2. Yes - the return of a good heist was much appreciated! They have bills to pay so they have got to get back to "work" and do some heists. I love how they figured out how to counteract all of the relevant pieces - and how it all fit nicely like a satisfying jigsaw puzzle. As far as Mia playing Nikki for a fool in getting all of that info out of her for the price of several drinks: Nikki should have known better. Plus, you don't increase your worth by being a big blabbermouth. I will admit that her getting revenge sex with the Marine in his truck in the parking lot: no problem since the poor girl has "needs". (wink) Plus, Marines should be rewarded for their service to the country, don'cha think?
  3. As others have noted, this season's writing is (take your pick: one or more) weak, slow, or logically-flawed. I found this episode to be a fresh hot mess - for an allegedly smart crime family, so many rookie mistakes. Easy rules to follow: 1. Do not torch the vehicle of a murder victim, which should still be in police impound. Do not put it on a public beach. Be sure to wear gloves while handling gasoline can (fingerprints!). Also, shouldn't Baz's murder been on blast all over the local media? 2. Do not let Cartel Girl sleep at your home base when you just met her and she is collecting the weekly protection money - from you! 3. Do not let your big goofball brother Craig talk you into smashing up some yuppie condo model - and then end up smashing someone else's home instead. Overall, I'm wondering if they should have stopped at two seasons and called it a day. Better to leave a little on the table rather than try to jump the shark.
  4. I'm a little late to the comments about this episode. Just starting to watch the backlog tonight. But, some summary points: 1. I agree that this episode was a bit disjointed but can give it some slack for table-setting. 2. Deran is HOT with short hair. And, his scenes with Adrian are both sexy and sweet. Moar, please. 3. Pope continues to be a hard read: scary stares, tender to Lena, yet killed her mom. Opening shower scene with great backside shot. Sneaks into J's room, clamps a hand on his mouth, then tells the threat/plan for finding Baz's killer. Talk about an enigma wrapped up in a riddle hidden in a mystery. I don't know whether to get to know him OR to run quietly and quickly away.
  5. Exactly! C. Thomas Howell, Dorian Missick, and Shawn Hatosy were all in Southland set in LA - and now they moved down the coast to Oceanside. Gosh, I loved Southland (before it went bonkers at the end) so I'm glad to see these guys working again! I have to agree - the first 2 episodes made me cringe but I came back for Episode 3. And, now I've watched Episode 4. Daren is one messed-up puppy with the self-loathing. (As a gay man, I can understand where he's coming from - but process that ish.) I will echo others' comments that Pope is trying to be supportive in a dysfunctional and highly inappropriate way - though funny in a dark way. Props for Pope's OCD cleaning: somebody has to clean up! I'd wager that Adrian and Deran did this roleplay before but one never knows. Deran may have known how to break into a house (I'm sure it was in Breaking and Entering 101 taught by Smurf) so that part wouldn't surprise me. Of course, Adrian may have honestly thought that he was being attacked but realized it was Deran when he spun around. Then, it turned into some kind of angry sex thing. (Not judging.) There was a reference that this all started in Belize via dialogue after the shower; Adrian seems to have processed it already but was trying to coax Deran to admit that he's gay and to stop the self-loathing. ^^ This is the ultimate summary! Though, if I'm going to take a shower, can Baz or J help me scrub? Pretty please.
  6. I second this emotion: Craig was getting it on with Ren last week. This week's feature was Baz with his new lady. Baz (Scott Speedman) can film a scene like this every day as far as I'm concerned. Twice on Sunday, please. Yowza.
  7. Like many others have said, there's a lot of mind-f**kery here in the show and the episode - some highlights for me: Smurf's boy-toy looks too creepily like either Craig or Deran. I had to play the scene back to make sure I was seeing this right - and I was glad that it was a doppelganger and not one of the boys. Grandma Smurf is way over the line to change the sheets while insisting that J go ahead and dress after his shower while she is there. "Go on, I won't look" is what she said. J should have said: "I'll go change in the shower." Skydiving scene was well-played: nice fight among the blockhead boys as they air their dirty laundry! Great filming which reminds me why I never understood the need to jump out a perfectly working airplane. Craig is such a drug-addicted douche for robbing Ren while she was on the floor. Yet, I laughed and laughed at the subsequent ER visit: Ren saying (paraphrased) "You find the person who robbed me while I was overdosing and you take care of them for me. It will be worth your while." The look on Craig's face was priceless - since he would have to beat himself up if truth be told. You could see that he was having an "Oh, snap!" moment at that point. J's teacher lighting up that joint and basically asking him out to a date to a photo exhibit is creepy. But, the lady may have just been mesmerized by J's tight jeans. Lord knows I have been watching those jeans (and underwear). I've been binging this show and, while they are pretty much all craven people, I'm still enjoying this show. I'll keep watching since it is so off the rails!
  8. Yup, Eric (the white co-captain) was definitely kissing Hot Rod Owner (with optional factory stubble) at the end of the test ride. Found it sexy mysterious since we didn't know what the extent of this tangent was: are they friends with benefits? Is this a regular hookup? Taylor may be struggling with his sexual identity and his girlfriend (no space) could be end being his girl friend (with space) as the story arc develops. I gave up on Season 1 after a few episodes since it was such an unlikeable story with unlikeable characters. But, I saw the tagline that this was a "new season, new story" so I gave it a whirl last night by watching the two aired episodes. MUCH better storylines with a balancing of characters: good and bad. I find Regina King's character (Mrs. Lacroix) an interesting one: she has the potential to chew up the scenery but also to be a driving force for the story. Her interaction with the other driver then calling her police friend to "run the plate" was a disturbing bit of manipulation.
  9. Good to see a thread like this - after all the commentary on the individual episodes, I wondered about the viewing trends of the show. I tend to catch up by watching a few episodes in bulk and on demand, rather than weekly.
  10. I'm going to take the opposite side (slightly). While Eric Dane is a fine handsome man for the camera to linger on, he could arch his eyebrow or smirk once in a while. He's at risk of gaining the nickname "Captain Dour" amongst his crew. Aussie Wolf was mighty nice to watch in his cobalt blue v-neck t-shirt, picking off all of those baddies to allow Captain Dour and gang to escape the compound. Lt. Green ("Plain Vanilla" as Tex nicknamed him) was great to shoo away the young girl from the Teddy Bear O'Death. Like others have said, the kitchen fight scene was well done and fun. The helo extraction was a bit hard to believe since there was no suppressing fire from the airship - and none of the bad guys could hit the darn thing. Those bad guys need to spend less time skimming the pool and more time at the gun range. Just sayin'. Very happy to see evil Niels ("Dr. Evil Toothpick") get shot in the gut - I was hoping that the bad guy shooting at the getaway van would have hit Toothpick again since he was bundled in the back. Now there's a friendly fire incident that one can get happy about. They should have stabbed him at the evacuation point and left him. Finally, I give this show a big pass since it is fluffy summertime TV - and it is from Michael Bay. He is NOT known for his brooding intellectualism - by any means.
  11. As others have said, the "British ragtag sub crew takes over Europe (with bonus swampy Florida!)" plot line is pretty ludicrous. Timeline and actual logistics are way off even for a summer popcorn adventure series like this. Between the Russian sub and shoot 'em up in Baltimore, I'd think the Nathan James would want to sail for cooler climates and just focus on the plain vanilla mission of building a better cure delivery system AND looking for their families. (What ever happened to Captain Stoic's promise to the crew to go looking for their families?) If the chain of command gets broken by Capt. Chandler refusing to accept SecHUD's orders, the XO could just say: "Hey, let's leave the nutty cult story line behind and go find our families. XO out!" And, the Nathan James would sail away leaving Chandler, Tex, Green, and the rest in beautiful Florida. I mean, if the wheels are coming off, let's not do it half-way. Full wheels off! :) Yet, despite all of this, I'm still watching albeit a week behind. This episode had the definite eye candy of Wolf and Green stripping off their shirts. Moar, please. And, badass Wolf jumping out of a moving truck. And, Green showing his Connecticut awkwardness. Cute.
  12. I may also succumb to the magical power of Netflix - due to it rolling out "Longmire".
  13. While I'm a bit glum that the series has ended, I'm VERY happy that this 7-episode show wrapped it up nicely. I despise those shows that go on for season after season, lurching from story arc to increasingly implausible story arc depending on whether or not they are renewed for another season. They end up tiring me out with suspensions of disbelief. Or, worse, end up not wrapping anything up in their final ludicrous story arc (I'm looking at you "Southland"). So, I'm happy that there was a nice conclusion to this book adaptation. Would I liked there to be 5 more episodes? Sure! But, I'm satisfied that this series was well worth the time investment. If a book sequel comes out and is made into a second series, I'll be there. Especially, if Childermass is front and center. Yowza.
  14. I've finished the series (never read the book) but wanted to chime in here that I'm glad that I've watched this series: excellent work! And, count me in as a personal fan of Childermass. He may not be "high society" but the man gets things done, which is a big plus! Even Drawlight's return to the story by being sprung from debtors' prison was welcome. But, I'm saddened at how he exited the story. Even a weasely courtier deserves some dignity. But, as for the spinoff talk, Ms. Clarke seems to be savoring the moments to write but I'm not rushing her. If she dawdles and misses her window of opportunity, it is all on her. I'll be patient.
  15. The prophecy text is in the discussion thread for Episode 2 if you want to read it in full.
