  1. 😄 I think Oliver Stark is one of the better actors on the show, but this still cracked me up. Right???? Just make her a detective, already. This is a safe space. Agreed, they'll probably have decent pensions, especially in California. Normally, I'm fine with Maddie but she annoyed me in this episode.
  2. I lasted about 45 minutes and lost interest. I thought the trailer looked fun and silly, and that Ana and Chris had chemistry in Knives Out. So I figured I'd enjoy this. I don't know, maybe in Knives Out the chemistry worked because Chris portrayed a murderous sociopath and Ana a befuddled nurse? In this, Ana has a distractingly bad wig. Adrien Brody is doing a terrible accent and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be serious or satire. The beauty of streaming is that I may come back to it and finish later.
  3. Agreed, and I think this was a bit of a misfire of the show. In order for the "Gregory/Janine dance around each other's feelings stuff" to work, the show had Janine and Jacob, who are BFFs, not even talking about it for several episodes. His "everyone I like knows it" line to Gregory had me going "I know that's right!" This resonated so much more than the standard, OTT romantic lines that TV does that usually make me cringe. It really was simple yet earnest. Agree, it really was unnecessary. The show leaned a bit too hard on the mean girl schtick with Melissa this season. I can appreciate it's a delicate balance between humor and asshole, but Melissa hit the latter more often than not. I'm ambivalent about Janine and Gregory. Part of me understands why Janine doesn't want to get romantically involved with someone at work. Another part of me feels like it's standard TV fare to keep the angst going. I have little patience for romantic angst, which feels like 90% of TV relationships. Other parts of me agree with these points: Even though I understand hesitance with dating a co-worker, I get this too. Yep, if they ultimately don't work out and choose to remain friends, that doesn't have to be a bad thing!
  4. I wondered about this too, but it sounded like Leo was legitimately arrested since Emma got him out. It was a weird scene. I would not be at all surprised if Daphne is recruited as an asset by Emma. The show backed off of her as the pure antagonist, and the whole "Tell us the details of how you've expanded the business" spiel from Daddy Maguire while Connor looks on smugly is telegraphing them turning on her. True, but I also wonder if David's heart is still in the campaign. After the "Dad was compromised" reveal, it seemed like he was mainly running for office to continue the family legacy more than wanting to be a public servant. We shall see! I don't know what the ratings are, but I can't see the show lasting beyond this season. The performances are all fine, but the writing and direction seems...lethargic at best.
  5. Ravi's back! Confession: I skipped right past the singing scenes. Wasn't interested. I didn't watch either of these shows, but it seems to explain why he wasn't available for this one. Hope he stays around. Was it a work-life balance issue, though? Sounds like to me Eddie's just a homebody when he's not working. And Bobby seemed to take a similar stance as Josefina in that he should be involved with someone/doing stuff when he's off work. I don't recall hearing Eddie stating he's lonely. If he isn't interested in a relationship, I'm with others in that being single should be as respected as being partnered. To me, it's just like preferring not to have kids - it's just as valid a choice as having them. Thankfully, her lapse in continuing ed credits kept her from perfection! I love Hen, but as I recall, she was pretty far from perfect when she was juggling medical school. So I don't know what Bobby was talking about.
  6. I LOVED that Birdie kept calling Emma on her self-righteous attitude. I mean, have the family work for you as assets or don't, but I see no point in making snide comments every time you're interacting with them. I also had a problem with Charlie blaming Leo for the con artist life. Dude, you are 40 years old, not some teenager just starting adulthood. If you really wanted out, you could have gotten out. Not saying it would have been easy to put some distance between him and family, but people manage to do it everyday. It was nice seeing Emma's family again. The brother is a hottie. We've seen Essence Atkins (Shelby) before - I think she helped them with a job in the 1st episode. I think it was Fran who mentioned that none of the steel mill workers have worked in 20 years (which I found hard to believe), so maybe they were just keen for any bit of work. Especially if it was to stick it to the guy responsible for their lost pensions. Or maybe they've been sharing the wealth from their cons with their friends?
  7. I support this! I know I'm supposed to hand wave this, but the little I know of CIA isn't really law enforcement. I thought it was more intelligence gathering and espionage, which is just as morally (perhaps legally?) dubious as what Charlie and family does, IMO. The show could have written Emma as FBI or DEA or hell even DOJ, but I guess it wasn't sophisticated or sexy enough. Or something. But it's all so silly to me. I mean, they may as well lean into it!
  8. I just starting watching this, and have caught up on all available episodes. Charlie and Emma have chemistry, but this episode kind of sold me on Charlie and Daphne. Part of the reason I could see them working is because no one's hiding from the other - they know exactly who the other person is. He's known Daphne as long as he's known Emma, so it's not an issue of time spent. Alas, I know that's not the endgame. It's why I found the Charlie/Emma ILYs unconvincing - not just because it was so quick, but because they were hiding essential parts of themselves. Granted, one's work doesn't have to define you, but it's evident that it does for both of them. Plus, I'm not really interested in Emma being self-righteous and struggling to come to terms with Charlie. Maybe Charlie's ILY was more authentic he said it knowing she was CIA, but I'm not buying it. I know nothing about Skull and Bones, so I'm sure you're correct. Still, Milo certainly wears a suit well. /endshallow Yeah, I think the show overplayed Charlie's abilities in this one. Then again, there are real people who have fooled these types, so hey.
  9. The lightning emoji! 😄 I don't want any kind of blowtorch near my head (or any other part of my body unless it is necessary to save my life). A good scalp scrub and massage is top tier, okay? Why did I read this???? 😐
  10. Girl, same! Although, having some extra adipose tissue probably saved her from the reaction that other people from the class had. The "wellness" industry is a hot mess. Right? I guess the show was counting on no one remembering how Hen's mom was introduced. Hell, maybe they forgot since it's been awhile. These ship names made me chuckle. I figured Buck had a "Flowers for Algernon" thing going on with the improved cognitive abilities, but then he reverted to form with making the awkward husband/wife intimacy call about him and calling up his exes thing. He'll be fine.
  11. For me, this was probably the best episode of the season (so far). Not sure how many are left. Whatever changes were made BTS, they seem to be trying to steer things back in the right direction. I really loved the scene towards the end when when Bell talked about how tough the case was and the day-to-day challenges, and Stabler admitted that he had no idea what she was going through. And never would. But that he would support her however she needed it.
  12. Well, if it is just one season, I'm glad I found the show (thanks, Hulu recommendations). Things felt a bit rushed towards the end with the LRS192 stuff. It would have been an interesting cliffhanger to explore later, but I suppose the showrunners wanted to wrap things up as much as possible just in case. Still, they've set things up for a second season if it is renewed. The least surprising plot twist? The Pritchard patriarch being the one to try and muscle his son's newspaper out of town. I definitely did NOT cry when Silvie showed up at the newspaper, and the scenes honoring the dead loved ones afterwards. Nope.
  13. I wouldn't miss her at all if she opted to go private. Still, you make a good point about her hacker skills saving NYC. A promotion announcement then would have made more sense vs after botching an undercover operation because she caught feelings.
  14. I was confused by Robyn's double hoodie situation early in the episode. Didn't seem to be cold enough for that. The flamethrower was random and hilarious. Marcus and Manny talking about their fathers was the most interesting part of the episode for me.
  15. Binged the rest of the episodes, this was a great series. It reminded me of The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey in that it's flying under the radar with a stellar cast. Great storytelling without much fluff, perfect for the streaming world we live. I'd like to see a second season for sure, if it's renewed. Yes, her acting style worked really well in this role. I feel if it was a different actress, I'd have disliked her. She was the anchor in the story, and she was great, IMO. Agree, and the viewers see her wrestle with her past, how it informed her present, and becoming increasingly self-aware. The pacing was well done, it all felt organic and unrushed.
  16. I just finished episode 3. I disagreed with Edwin about the bolded for a few reasons. One, I don't think he'd be pushing for forgiveness if he wasn't involved with Nadine. Two, life and emotions are often not a clear binary. Three, Paige has a right to boundaries, and if she didn't want Nadine in HER house at that time, it's her right. Edwin inviting her was out of line. It all worked out in the end, but in the context of that scene from episode 3, Paige didn't come off unreasonable to me. The Little Paige actress is a gem. The cursing unnerved me too, but she's nailing it all the same. This show manages to be fun while dealing with some heavy themes.
  17. Being unprofessional and a hot mess? So is Stabler, but at least he's got several decades of actual experience. Since the show is playing musical chairs with the showrunners, this episode sparked my curiosity about an anthology-type series with different focus on various precincts. I know it'll never happen with Meloni as exec producer, but it's NYC. Surely there are distinct organized crime units for each precinct, or at least boroughs. Would be a way to freshen up the show. I'm kind of over seeing the team being completely conspicuous during their "undercover" operations. Also over Stabler threatening the villains they don't take down immediately. I didn't see much interest from Bell's side, but you never know. Maybe we'll see her again.
  18. Indeed. I would totally understand if she turned the job down. I just feel like she hasn't gotten her due at The Alaska Daily, and have no issues with her going to WaPo if she wanted to. I think that made sense in the first season, but I don't see it as necessary if the show is renewed. There are ways to share Alaska with the audience without having an outsider as the protagonist. Or if it must be an outsider, get creative and make them Indigenous - a journalist who didn't grow up there but had familial roots and returned to discover them.
  19. The fact that Gloria was alive for two days after her disappearance, alone, cold, and trying to get help, was so awful. She was failed on so many levels. I've always liked Roz, so I'm rooting for her to take the WaPo job. There's no reason she can't return to Alaska later. I'm okay with this being a one and done. I found the excellent Anchorage Daily News/Propublica series because of this show, and I hope the additional spotlight prompts some real, tangible change in Alaska. On the other hand, I think the show would be fine if Hilary Swank wasn't available as long as Grace Dove stays on the show.
  20. I was surprised that he wasn't better prepared to field such questions and concerns, especially since he popped up unannounced to presumably derail things. I've been playing Paramore and Jazmine Sullivan for several days while (mostly) working from home, thanks to all for the reminder of great music. I can be loud and off key without disturbing others!
  21. Wow, I came to check when the next episode would air and caught up on all the drama! The 5th showrunner in less than 3 seasons? Good grief. Just end the show already.
  22. Apparently so! Frankly, I'm surprised trouble doesn't come to her doorstep more often. It's one thing to be CIA and mostly work in other countries. Entirely another to do the equalizing where you live. But hey, as mentioned above, plot armor. I thought the family scene at the end was so cute. Those have always been my favorite moments of the show. That said, I assume that all happened on a Saturday or Sunday? Looked like Delilah was there practically all day. Or maybe school was out for spring break. Nope. I kind of side-eyed Robyn leaving him there. Maybe she called 911 or Dante off screen. To me, it wasn't clear that Trunk Dude had anything to do with the murder itself, he was just related to the murderer? This episode had potential, and then veered off-course in the latter half.
  23. Tariq may be a bum, but he's talented one! Her parting words to Gregory had me rolling. I like that she genuinely supports Janine despite stirring the pot. You heard it right.
  24. This thread is hilarious! Too many gems to quote. And I, too, was hoping the Chimney mystery would be revealed. My favorite scene was May and Bobby. Bobby was barely holding it together with May, and it was so sweet the way she was looking out for him. The little brother moved to Miami with the dad, right? I can't say I miss him. Eddie and Buck have shared very few scenes since end of season 4...maybe? I'll always believe the social media controversy with Ryan Guzman impacted his scenes with Oliver Stark. Stark is clearly a favorite of the show, and I am convinced he doesn't want to shoot with Guzman. Could also be the other way around, I guess. In any case, I don't miss the friendship. Yeah, right there with you. At least have the man apologize. Maybe we'll get a scene in a future episode?
  25. Eh...I wouldn't call Sean sane exactly. It was just a few episodes ago that he sent a complete stranger to the hospital because of his rage issues and is currently living with his therapist because his parents kicked him out. I'd like to see him make an effort to set things right with them. Nice, I like the show and most of the characters. Totally understood Brian not wanting Jimmy to officiate his wedding. I also understand Jimmy being mad about it, but hey, he was a hot mess at the engagement party. The irony of Paul telling Jimmy how to parent. He was right, just...physician, heal thyself. And maybe stop trying to force a conversation with your own daughter who doesn't want to talk to you at present. I knew as soon as Gaby met Aaliyah that she was with Nico. To me, it felt natural that she was upset that Nico was doing well post-divorce. According to her, they were together/married for 8 years, so to have another woman reap the benefit of her emotional investment must have hurt.
