  1. I enjoyed The Bear well enough, but thought season 1 was superior to season 2. I still intensely disliked Richie by season 2's end and didn't find his "growth" convincing at all.
  2. Shout out to the cafeteria workers! My mama was one, and she commonly brought food home after school. Memories... Agreed. It was clear she missed Abbott before she was offered the district job. I would have liked to see her assert herself earlier. That said, I loved the kids' card scene - it was brief but my favorite. Good point that didn't occur to me when watching the episode. I'm mostly neutral on him, but the meter definitely tipped into "ugh, shut up" during the opening. But that's my bias showing - nobody insults the CWs!
  3. It's really odd, especially since Robyn was openly flirting with Marcus in the first season. And they were certainly closer after she rescued him in season 2. But now, despite him in the know and on board with the vigilante work, she's pulled back. If one or the other simply said they weren't interested, I could live with that. But I'm not sure what's going on the writer's room.
  4. Hmmmm - I can't find any article that lists the official reason for his firing. I've read speculation about OnlyFans, but he's been working with Disney for awhile, so it seems odd that suddenly became an issue. Side-eye to Disney for now. Anyway - I was all excited to see badazz Storm. Should have known better. The animation will take some adjustment for me, but overall I liked it. I was particularly entertained by Cyclops' landing after the Sentinel attack in the first episode. I was super confused because this wasn't even hinted at in the original.
  5. I don't mind the ensemble cast, but I think the various friendships are more compelling than the romantic relationships. I've never been that invested in Bobby and Athena as a couple.
  6. I'm sure they will be fine, but I've often thought Athena and Bobby made a bit of an odd couple. If I recall correctly, there were similar communication issues about her retiring and when Bobby was trying to help someone in AA. I mean, she could have just been honest and told Bobby no to cruising. But hey, then we would not have the requisite disaster multi-episode arc! Chim and Hen's friendship is among my favorites, so I was most entertained by their scenes.
  7. Thank you, Trini. It's interesting when he's interrogating people as if someone owes him answers. He's not even a private investigator, so the sense of entitlement/condescension from him when he's questioning folks has me rooting against him a bit, even though it's supposedly a righteous cause. Maybe that feeling will fade.
  8. I mostly watch this doing other things, so maybe I missed it - is Colter former law enforcement? Something about the way he was questioning the rich boyfriend bugged me. I like Rennie, but she's on the wrong show.
  9. I'm rapidly losing interest. I don't mind dealing with the Reach fallout, but I was annoyed by practically everyone in this episode, save Riz and maybe Soren. I don't know how many episodes are left, but since Riz is now out of the mix (which I support because I wouldn't tolerate John's bullshit either), not sure I'm invested enough to watch. Kai could have been interesting, but her character arc seems to be as a potential antagonist to John without much explanation. We know he is speshul and cannot die, so not sure things will end well for her, either.
  10. Like others, I enjoyed the season until this episode. The church bombing resolution was convoluted, and it didn't have to be. And with Rose's kidnapping as a finale, I suspect there might be a change in tone for season 2? Or at least, for a number of episodes. I was mostly fine with this season's set up: I didn't mind the assistants, but I wasn't a fan of Kylie and felt like the show didn't know what to do with her. I found it amusing that they showed her to be kind of dumb in the finale, and YET! She's officially in the FBI. Hopefully, not in the field. All of the melodrama around Jace's death when it felt like we rarely saw him and the lack of chemistry with Marissa...ok, show. They would have been better off just being co-workers, but I guess they needed him in her house somehow.
  11. I'm not familiar with the game/source material, but I do wonder if every season will feature some annoying, whiny wisp of a woman that John gets to feel protective over? Last season it was Kwan and Makee, and this season seems to be Perez.
  12. I thought this episode was funny. I will always remember "The Devil's Lettuce" ha! I was pretty sure the Jessca actress was from Tiktok, but I'm not invested enough to verify that. I agree with others on: I was more surprised about Jacob because I thought he was health-obsessed. Listen! Carrying a household on a teacher's salary when an able-bodied man refuses to get a job? She needed something to take the edge off, no doubt. I missed that he mentioned cigarettes in the 1st season. I thought he said something similar as well.
  13. Ha! I recently rewatched the original series on Disney+, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the trailer. I shall be watching! Yep, I too prefer Cyclops.
  14. I thought Tariq popping was as much about trying to see Janine (and what she's up to) as bond with Nick. After all, who was handling the transportation before the mom met Tariq? Presumably, they are several months into the school year. The actor is hilarious, but Tariq is a bum and will (might?) always be. Gregory's "advice" and the emotional fallout was entertaining. I felt for him as a fellow introvert, but working as a teacher is a choice. Hopefully, he can decompress and recharge at home! Tyler James continues to make great use of his side-eye. I also suspect him being one of the few black male teachers is part of why the students were drawn to his classroom. Janine's bureaucracy journey was well done - funny yet poignant. She and her writing team do a great job balancing the comedy and authenticity. Manny dressed like one of Nino Brown's crew from New Jack City had me chuckling throughout the episode.
  15. Or hell, send an email! I'm guessing the dad's death might have been an accident, or maybe Lee Tergresen intentionally jumped trying to escape whoever was "after" him. I also like the theory that the mom was involved - given his increasing level of paranoia and presumably violent outbursts, maybe she led him to his death. Pretty much! I'll never turn down shirtless Hartley, and the man can wear a pair of jeans quite nicely. But I also wonder if he's doing something to his face, as it looked just slightly off in direct shots. I'm not knocking cosmetic procedures, because hey, that's the entertainment biz. But when it's not done well, or the results are still...settling, it's more noticeable then ever in this high definition, digital era. But yeah, he looks his age and there's no reason the character can't be in his forties. I wonder who is cast as the older brother in present day. In any case, I'll probably watch the next day via streaming to avoid the commercials. It went by pretty quickly for me in that regard.
  16. I'm so glad others called out the ridiculous plot holes. This could have been wrapped up in 4 episodes. I'm not familiar with Coben, but looks like I've watched another series (The Stranger, which I don't recall being so absurd) without knowing they were based on books. I remember thinking Maya might be the killer because 1) the actress was playing Maya as utterly unaffected, and 2) the reveal of the hidden hand gun. But I dismissed it because what would be the point of investigating what led to her sister's death if she already knew who killed Claire? Yep, and the series title would have played perfectly into this. It's never explained and not only is it a plot hole, the entire premise of the series hinges on it. All they had to do was show the nanny in the background or something when Maya's friend gifts the frame. Right??
  17. I agree - that part was much more interesting to me. I am highly amused at the continuing theme of River channeling Ethan Hunt and shown in full sprint for implausible reasons every season. I enjoy the show, but this season seemed rushed. And it's also a bit annoying how they release seasons that are already filmed. Episodes are already released weekly, but now we'll have to presumably wait until Nov/Dec 2024 for the next season? Why?
  18. This came up as recommended TV. It was okay. The pacing was uneven, and some episodes I half-watched because they wouldn't just get on with things. So it's great to have on if you're doing something else! I'm sure the narrative format has been used before, but in recent memory, it reminded me a little of the Netflix series Kaleidoscope. I enjoy watching the mystery unfolding, but I have to suspend disbelief that these supposedly top-notch professional criminals all seem a bit...thick at varying times. I'm willing to give the young female safe cracker some grace since it was presumably her first job and it all went wrong. Most of the crew, though... Nice change of pace for sure, although Joe should called Jules to get out of the house as soon as he escaped the house in France. Eddie Izzard was unrecognizable. For me, at least. And the bit at the end with
  19. Yeah, I've enjoyed the films well enough, and I tried to get into this. But it feels like there isn't enough story here for a TV series. I was kind of interested in 50s Monarch, but Shaw, Randa, and Yamamoto are as dumb as the Randa siblings are in 2015. Guess the Randa siblings came by it honestly.
  20. Ritchson had that stiff gait in the 1st season. I thought it was related to an injury, but perhaps it's deliberate - part of the character. He does seem more tan, though, which struck me as odd. I'm not that interested in the IS team, and of course the annoying wiseass dude is the one who resurfaces. I'm sure the murder(s) will be some absurd conspiracy. Dialogue is as stilted as I remember from the 1st season. I usually don't mind some exposition, but yeesh. Malcolm Goodwin as Findlay was a good foil against Reacher. Don't have that, at least not in this episode. I did crack up at Neagley and Reacher's facial expressions at the widow's house when that weird children's show was playing. "I'd like a banana..." I'm debating whether to wait until the rest of the season is available and watch. This one didn't grab me.
  21. I didn't get the impression that Nolan was being that strategic. His immediate ask was to save his Thrax (I think??) family. I actually wondered if the Viltramites would have bothered with the planet if Nolan wasn't there. Even if he had time to train Mark, I don't see how the two of them would have been a match for several Viltramite soldiers. Nolan had the benefit of decades (hundreds of years?) of training, battle, bloodlust and psychopathy. He still fumbled. Mark came into his powers maybe 1 year ago (in the show timeline)? And before the truth came out, Nolan was training him to take over Earth, not fight against a Viltrim invasion. I forgot about that!
  22. Whew, talk about audacity! Nolan had a lot of nerve. Asking the son you almost murdered to risk his life to protect the life of your other son because you knowingly entered into a forbidden relationship and put the entire species at risk is....something else. Clancy Brown! Poor Eve. She really needs to cut ties with her parents, her father especially. But I realize that's hard to do, especially if you don't have any other family.
  23. I completely forgot about the bolded. Perhaps technically it's Zeke's money that's bankrolling law school? Because I don't recall if the show has stated what Gabi did for a living before opening the investigative services firm. And how does Lacey have all this free time while being in law school? It's very TV for main characters to live "comfortably" without explaining how. Because how are Gabi, Lacey, and Sherlock lady able to afford where they're living? Zeke is explained, Dhan can be handwaved because he's married and the therapist could have a lucrative career. The writing really falls apart in the details, and it's not just because the show is incrementally revealing them to the viewer.
  24. I feel like...if the show really wants to go there with sexual/romantic subtext between Sir and Gabi, maybe not write her abduction as a teenager? Because I'm finding it very difficult to believe there wouldn't be some sexual trauma for Gabi on top of everything else. I sure wish we saw who Gabi was before the Sir in the basement mess. I was confused that it seemed like Lacey had never seen the inside of Gabi's home? The show can't seem to land on how close the Gabi/Lacey relationship is supposed to be. Or the rest of the team for that matter. Trent behaving as if he's not suspended is an unintentional piece of comedy. I wish the police wasn't involved at all beyond peripheral antagonists. I feel bad for the man because of Gabi's hot/cold treatment.
  25. Right? How is William gonna cover for him for several weeks? Especially since neither have attended a single class. Have they even registered? William is so annoying. Debbie is going through it. I don't know why Olga referred her to a group that included other heroes murdered by Omni-Man. Just because she doesn't blame Debbie doesn't mean others would be cool with her in the group. I feel more compassion for her than Mark. Probably not fair, but there it is. Debbie is the most interesting character for me, as I'm not a fan of the superhero/regular person trope. Nolan/Debbie is an extreme example of why.
