I liked the show. I would have watched a second season. I'm not seeing what the metrics are that warranted cancellation beyond incels screeching on social media and people saying it cost a lot. It needed improving, but was easily fixable. Why am I going to bother to check out anything new if there's no indication it's going to survive? So just wait until the season is over and then decide.

Today's short seasons and streaming produce their full season before series premiere. It's not the days when 4 out of 23 get made when the network pulls the plug anymore. Shogun told their story in a few hours a Star Wars prequel story should also be able to tell their full story.

Incels are not the only Disney Star Wars faction. I'm a Star Trek fan and we had the same battles of traditionalist versus the new producers fight. In Star Wars I've seen the real fandom fights since the third movie and the Ewoks doing what the rebels couldn't do.

The "Disney Star Wars" started with the prequel movies a generation ago.

That many use "incel" as an updated term for the way "nerds" was is funny to me

The flip side of that is, why bother getting invested in new shows?

One model is the miniseries. Our friends across the Atlantic even use the term series while Americans think in seasons. If a full story is told then no loss.

In a big franchise case a side story like every other Star Wars movie is planned to be works. Unless your needs don't think that the first season represents "real" Star Wars

  4. Since they have canonized Netflix they have a lot to clear up in the coming episodes of Born Again.

At the end we have Kingpin getting arrested again for multiple murders and all seems good, but by the time of Hawkeye he is out and maybe not as big as a threat but still a gangster. Echo suggest that he was out during the Blip, as was Daredevil but both men had decided on limited but not total war on each other. And I doubt he is still taking 25% from all organized crime

Meanwhile Bullseye was being treated with an Iron Fist comics super medal and not the Black Panther super medal. All evidence points to a different super medal from The Eternals coming for the mutant introduction to the MCU.

Related side note: there was a multi-episode arc late in the show's run about a small plane colliding with a commuter-sized airplane (being used by a political candidate), then the wreckage of both crashing into a suburban neighborhood.  Upon watching it again in the last year, I thought for sure it must've been inspired by an actual incident which had been featured on Air Disasters but it turns out the Emergency! episode aired about 6 months earlier.  Weirdly prescient.

I was probably thinking the same when I saw that Air Disasters. And that was one of those two hours where we had mostly a different shift of younger firefighters in Station 51 as the possible new cast members.

As a story ideal if it was done after the tragedy it would have  probably be seen as too soon and ghoulish by the network audience,  with further contempt because of the melodrama tacked onto the ripped from the headlines story.

I do remember a Charlton Heston, TV movie about real life plane crash 3 years after the fact. But the fight that the flight crew put up to the end saved more than half of passengers from what looked like an unsurvivable crash.

What's the numbers on that then? I haven't seen anything.

I guess Disney considers numbers proprietary. Or share holders watching money go away instead of grabbing a nerd monopoly said enough.

    What's the viewership though?

Making shows and movies of these IP, you can't worry about the incel faction. The Wheel of Time has the same problem. Lord of the Rings. Even Galactica way back. If you're making a show based on the social media response, then you don't have a show. Not everything can be Game of Thrones out the box, and even then they had issues too.

I wouldn't antagonize fans either. Maybe marketing needs to be more savvy.

I mean it's Disney ffs. Is the show that expensive overall?

Well if the show drives away more old Star Wars fans than it picks up in subscribers for the present Star Wars then its not worth it even if given to Disney for free.

I was being facetious. It's 'woke' if the incels screech loud enough. That's why.

I don't think it was a big deal that the show was mid. I thought there was enough there to warrant a second season. I would have thought the showrunner might have been told this is your last season if you don't up the game.

Enough there as in stories of these characters? But in doing so Disney runs the risk of further angering the Church of Jedi.

Over at Paramount the Church of the Great Bird had aged past the target demographic group since the Kelvin universe had already surplanted real Star Trek so they were able to get in more seasons with a smaller amount of critical pressure from the gatekeepers.

The masked intruders who break into Sam’s house are working for army intelligence - SDECE, looking for Philippe and Teresa. Philippe was supposed to take Zayd to Paris but he went rogue. If Zayd is so valuable and important, why would SDECE trust a person like Philippe to protect him, of all people?

If I am following it right although we mostly are hearing from Sam that Philippe might have run away from the law by going into the army. While there he had been promoted to sergeant in a special operations team.

For all the PTS symptoms they are showing us the French didn't appreciate that he had seen and done to much in Algeria.

George and his “mom” are professional spies? Nahhh, I don’t buy it. Someone must have hired them to plant the bug. Are they working for Philippe or the Vatican’s secret society?

If the American priest is also CIA and judging by the "son" ready to jump into the fight when he heard the kidnap on the wire only for mom to order no intervention I would go with MI6.

The thread dates does make it look like a weekly release schedule.  With all the flashbacks it really didn't call for going over the show with friends and there is no reason to binge on Netflix now.  The gunshot to close the episode just as the heroes were about to lose was the first thing that got me looking forward to the next episode.

Sure, if one  is willing to imagine that a teen losing her only confirmed parent (her mother) then adjusting to life with two men she'd never met before but who just dated her late mother around the time of her own conception, would be instantly be totally carefree  and happy for the three of them to become a new permanent family just because of a judge's order. Hah hah hah. No issues about there having been no family members or other  friends on her late mother's side willing to take her in,etc. Yeah, right.

IMO, it would have worked better had the 'dads' been her maternal uncles [and themselves brothers] with very opposite personalities who'd fallen out with each other but had stayed in touch with her late mother and with Nicole being their only remaining family member decided to truce it over for her sake.

I am guessing that the set up in the pre DNA testing days was that both dad's had the same blood type? So they had that who was the real father joke which now makes no sense.

  12. My first time through the Defenders saga I concluded that season 3 of Daredevil was the finest story run Marvel had. Doing a partial re-watch now as I await Born Again at 13 hours it really dragged in places and I can't see how beyond over excitement anyone binged the 13 hours. But it ended o very well

Watching an episode a week wouldn't work either. I think the Andor format where they released the story arcs in packs of three, or two in  Daredevil's case might be the best way to watch at least the past Netflix releases.

Johnny Gage on Emergency was often treated by his own squad multiple times.     He would be in the hospital for a bit, then back at work next shift right as rain.

To be fair it wasn't the next shift it was the next episode and there wasn't serialized stories just a day in the life of Station 51 format. I can't recall any call back to the big brush fire or the fighter jet that slammed into an apartment building.

Officers Reed and Malloy of Adam-12 were cops when the paramedics were doing their first job in the Emergency pilot film. And later Johnny Gage was trying to find the ending of an Adam-12 TV episode. There were the occasional two part episodes or TV movies set with other fire departments as Webb made a few   back door pilots for younger sexier firefighters to roll forward.

By then the based on "the story you heard was true" of Dragnet, Adam-12, Emergency and some of the Police Story anthology episode fade had run its course.

He goes to his office to talk to his wife and suddenly over the speaker comes "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" by Maurice Chevalier from the Gigi soundtrack.  That song is not on the DVDs (I think they use "We've Only Just Begun") but there's still a shot of Venus in the booth clutching the Gigi album as he contemplates Mr. Carlson having no preference between a girl or a boy.  It's just not the same without the original song.

That seems an odd substitute choice because they would still be paying for song rights, perhaps to someone else's pocket. A generic copy cat composed to sound like a hit  was TV music   before the needle drop era. But then that was also before the home sales of shows also.

I remember after the American Happy Birthday tune finally made it to public domain and it started to used on newer productions it now starting to spread to birthday parties globally.  There is a video from Angela Bofill's last before her strokes recorded Live in Manila concert where Christopher Cross (Sailing, Ride Like The Wind, Theme from Arthur) started trying to lead the audience in a happy birthday chorus to her. Only at the time Filipinos mostly used their own birthday tune. After the TV switch to the birthday song until today they will switch to English to sing the birthday song with another "happy birthday" in place of the "Dear Juan" phrase

Apparently, for streaming Homicide, a lot of the original music is gone--I assume a rights issue--but it is in 4K resolution. As someone who's long wanted to watch the show, I've been debating whether or not to stream it or hunt down the original DVDs.

I guess the cost has to be weighed with the art decision. I might have watched a couple of season and then episodes here and there of Homicide: Life In the Street back in the day but I don't remember the music being a thing like it was famously first for Miami Vice and later with the more youth aimed shows of CW when the music industry was trying to place their music as a video ad not in an attempt to get money from later home video sales..

That song was on an oldies station? 😭

Our local "classic hits" station runs songs mostly from the late 70s to the mid 2000's. Meanwhile the more independent Top 40 stations, as opposed to the nationwide computer fed show will still have the occasional reach down to the 60s for a song but still the focus is on today's award winners

  17. Ollie's and Admiral Chegwidden second appearances. I couldn't believe the plot that JAG had the only ID on a global assassin and he ordered Harm and Commander Krennick to keep the information themselves to get JAG the credit. Assuming they were successful in prevent the assassination of Russia's President Yeltsin that is.

The socially awkward hacker upon meeting an officer asking the Commander if those were breast implants was as shocking as the my agency uber alles in the episode.

Did you watch it when you were young? Usually if I didn't watch a show years ago I won't have any interest in it now either. There are probably some exceptions, though.

When I was young I caught the some of later years of Adam-12 live but the house was more into Emergency. But the colorized Dragnet and 1 Adam-12 was in constant stripped syndication along with Emergency One. So I always linked  the 3 shows. Even when Firefighter Gage was running around trying to find out what happened in an Adam-12 episode back when he would have needed to wait for a summer rerun and hopefully caught it to finish the story

Yeah, I've heard Neal won't kiss another woman on screen, but he has no problem playing psychopathic, murderous, homophobic villains on screen as he did in Justified.  Go figure.

Its not about the character in his case it is what he has to do with his body. He is his own intimacy coordinator. And directors thought it was easier to cast someone else.  It would be like an actress who refuses to expose her nipples for a "sin-max" or prestige TV show giving up those roles to others.

The thing is there were a bunch of stories that Google found and feed me seeing my interest here about the current movies where in the past the leads would have been expected to seal the story with a kiss but they are not kissing anymore. Twisters and The Union being the most recent examples.

    People are complicated.

Although as i said elsewhere, at least Blair Warner was no Kirk Cameron (and the fact that she's been given much more leeway than him is, in retrospect, food for thought IMO but YMMV).

I really haven't heard from Lisa Whelchel except for celebrity reality since The Facts of Life. Meanwhile I can only think of Fireproof where Brother Cameron was the only professional actor working for that Sherwood Baptist Church production house and a Touched By An Angel episode since he went televangelist.

New York Undercover used to be must see tv back in the 90's. I tried watching it on Prime and the show is absolutely horrible. Just poorly done.

With its music, fashion, and lead detective team New York Undercover  was the Miami Vice of the 90s.  However it didn't have that great ground breaking first season that Miami Vice rode off of for the remainder of its run. So by the time NY Undercover ran it was a late copy  but perhaps the best copy as a Hip Hop/New Jack version of Vice.
