The only 2 I have no clue about (just yet) are the one with the mask (that kind of looks like Ghost) and Bob...which would be cool if he was Hydra Bob from Deadpool 😃

The mask wearer in the poster is Taskmaster from Black Widow.  In the teaser  trailer It looks like Ghost had an equipment and mask upgrade since the Blip which ended Ant-Man and The Wasp

I feel the same about Bob, although I have never seen him before just heard about him.

Also, someone with her supposed high IQ would know there is no such thing as a photographic memory.  She would have used the term "eidetic".

Broadcast to your audience, not over it. Now maybe she underestimated the LT of one of the two top detective units in the county but that's all.

I guess the show had no choice but no way would Grace have left her daughter or her job even for a church mission. I know this is the last season so will it focus more on the Texas Ranger side of things?

I only watched a couple of episodes a season but dropped in after football to start asking what happened  when I saw the cast changes. I remember the Captain recruiting the crew after a nationwide search but have they set up a story that he alone decides who gets promoted without the rest of the department having a chance?

With their street cop first responder becoming a Ranger, state detective I flashed back to Third Watch where that show about first responders got hijacked by Sergeant Cruz and her plain clothes anti-crime team in the last few seasons and the paramedics mostly served to help hurt cops. I guess it is easier to write new who dunnits than rescues..

I didn't watch Black Widow but, I did watch Ant-Man 2, Hawkeye and F&tWS so, i know some of the characters. Plus, I love David Harbour on Stranger Things 😍

I'm assuming you won't need to watch every movie/show to understand the movie

James Gunn made it work with his team. Too much back story on the costumed government killers may be the problem. The teaser makes it look like they all are sorry at what their lives had become. And if you look at their screen history none of them can be fun like Rocket or suddenly have a previous mission like Drax and Gamora.

Captain had 3 seconds left, but it didn't look like he was struggling at all. The timekeeper said he could slip them a couple of extra seconds if they needed it.

I remember hitting the point in life where I still had the endurance to finish but no longer could  sprint to make up lost time.  3 seconds in that triathlon of that distance was not a comfortable cushion in my opinion it was barely qualified. Maybe for the last time unless that agency had a sliding requirement for age groups.

So I’ll give it another shot.

My parents lived their last 30 years on the Big Island. A couple of locals at a business they frequented called Dad “Uncle,” but I think it may have been at least partly because he supported the business. IDK. Dad was a nice guy too. Probably both. Plus it was a jewelry store, and Mom often wore pieces Dad had made, so maybe a mutual respect thing too? I don’t think they ever saw Dad swimming.

When my wife first came stateside I had to caution her about calling elder Black men that she didn't have a relationship with  "uncle".  That she would have to learn new social codes because  instead of being seen as respectful he would hear someone trying to avoid calling him sir.

No, they didn't show her reaction, just Em's (blonde lifeguard) - not sure why the episode was named after her. Hina (rookie) only had about 3 scenes and just reappeared at the end when Captain got permission to rehire her and snark on the guy who's Daddy got him the spot. All we found out about her is that she seems to have been parentified by her mother towards her younger siblings.

I must have not been paying attention because I thought Captain did well in the qualification and beat his "niece"? If he did only just pass then it might be an issue, although he doesn't seem to do much day to day rescuing, mostly admin and politics.

The promo seemed to suggest a two hour pilot. I don't know if the show was supposed to be mid season but came during the opening of football and before the baseball playoffs caused the pilot to be split into two episodes. Like the first year of NYPD Blue was centered of David Caruso's boss, his ex, his partner, his girlfriend and protégé before he left  after one season and then all the characters where more on their own and the show was about Dennis Franz's Sipowitz.  With Em's the ex, her team, her boss and her protégé in a way Em was the central character at least in the pilot..

The Captain came in behind his LT with the testing Captain taking a beat before saying he passed his qualification and could remain a Captain.

Not being Hawaiian but trying some  third party cultural code switching explanations As to all the uncles/nieces , towards the Captain and the kids on the beach with the junior of the lifeguard team and nieces, they are just referring to the next generation. They played with it in the first episodes of the Hawaii 5-0 reboot with rookie officer Kono calling the old ex con turned 5-0 informant and friend Kamekono "uncle". But they quickly dropped it I guess fearing the general American audience was confused.

I don't know that this show is Baywatch 2.0 - the characters are being portrayed as competent elite lifeguards, and the women aren't... bimbos.  At least not yet.

I set the DVR, so I'll give this show a few more episodes before I make a decision.

That Lieutenant with the ex working out of her tower seems straight out of Baywatch. And Baywatch when they got on the water was like M*A*S*H not having a laugh track in surgery and the actual the rescues also played like Jack Webb on Emergency showing off the firefighter/paramedics. But now with the top lifeguarding techniques and technology. Did they ever show what the number 1  by tradition rookie felt like when nepo-guard got her spot?

Was the Captain barely being able to hold his qualification with father time breathing down his neck a signal that his story is just a place keeper if this does become a long running series?  In any case it seemed like his station was independent of all the others and he could refuse to hire the newest qualified if he wanted to.

Apparently wonder woman on TV had boots that were flat when she ran and high heeled when she didn’t.

I’m sorry. It is pretty common.

women have always had to support each other, though. That is what the term sisterhood meant, I think.

That was common I remember a costume designer stunt woman making a video saying that the wedges heroes are put in to hide the heels like Gal Gadot's costume are the absolute worse shoe.

I remember Fiona of Burn Notice once wore flats to jump a fence instead of her iconic platforms

The costume wasn’t that bad, assuming the skies were full of costumed heroes in that world. It was functional.  You would want to go eith the flow a bit, and have some recognition value—in world and as a showrunner. This is another thing I haven’t watched in too long and can’t really hold a discussion about, but I bet it holds up for the most part. Lynda Carter certainly does.

Buffy does as well. They are real people. Granted you wouldn’t kill Tara today, but that doesn’t make it a bad story or an offensive one. Whedon may have been an abusive bastard during his run on the show, but be also held the rein of something special.

also the world has not hugely advanced since the 2000 in its treatment of women and minorities of all sorts. Disney’s female lead movies are not Disney’s most popular, and it isn’t for lack of talent.

I can't recall any Justice Society on the TV Wonder Woman. Most of the superheroes of her era were the singular superhero of the world. The 60s Batman villains being the outlying show. I know that with every reboot attempt there was always the worry about how the voluptuous superheroes from the comics would play.

I'll be in the theatre as close to opening weekend as practical.

The comics came after my time, after hearing how Deadpool didn't have the rights to the character so Peter stood in I wonder if that Bob is the MCU's Hydra Bob?

Oh forget it, I already spoiled myself.  Don't look up the actor

Whether or not the writers have thought through these logistics depends a lot upon their own experiences with childcare and rearing.

Given that city provided child care was part of her negotiations to accept the consultancy job I am guessing they have thought of the comedic possibilities at least.

CNN has a new series about controversial tv episodes. This episode featured Murphy Brown and the Dan Quayle controversy. Dan Quayle never realized that Murphy did tell Avery's father about her pregnancy but he chose to abandon them. It was great to see Candice Bergen again. I've never understood why single moms are bad but single dads are fine.

Maybe it has happened recently that a man chose to try to become a  single parent but back then the child was often deposited on the last family member, that man to raise. I thus the heroic portrayal.

Sometimes I think all the 60s TV dad's, even back to the 50s with The Rifleman were in that position and only Mike Brady finally went out to marry again to form a nuclear family with The Brady Bunch.

Waaaaait a second. How was the teenager able to get Agatha out of her curse, but couldn’t get his own legs (non-magically, even!) unbound???🤔

We haven't been given rules about what witch magic can do. Just that Dr. Strange, the Scarlett Witch and Agatha could do more than your everyday magic user.

  17. In my first rewatch I came to the Carmen talking about Top Gun with Johnny scene. With him being the Iron Eagle fan and snarking the self proclaimed Maverick in favor of Val Kilmer's Iceman.

With Chad McQueen/Dutch recent real world passing Hawk was still firmly in that role. With Nate and Burt falling behind him and Kenny getting behind Robby at the drive in theatre almost rumble. While not the full on Cobra Kai bully but now as the Eagle Fang enforcer as Miguel continues his rehabilitation

I may have missed this, but she works at night while her kids are asleep and the neighbor watches them?  What does she do during the day while they’re at school?  I get that the show’s plot put her by herself at night in an office so she can see things when no one else is around, but I don’t understand the realities of her work situation.  And call me old-fashioned but that micro-mini cleaning outfit and dancing by herself like she’s in Flashdance — both just eye-rollers for me.

I think they went half way with the Sherlock, Dr. House analogy that she is hard to work with or be around. Part of she couldn't hold a relationship or a job speech that she gave. So the lone shift, not even any rest of a cleaning crew wondering why the other offices aren't done in sight for her. But then when working with the cops nothing abrasive comes from her. Only her daughter seemed to mind.

I was confused by the "all churches face East" thing. In my town, all the churches, no matter the denomination, face North or South because the major streets all run East/West. Did I miss something in her explanation?

The church thing is not correct. The one I grew up in faces north as do quite a few in my town. It kind of seemed like they were maybe amending that the East thing was more Catholic so.... Who knows.

I messed up the multi quote order. But they did go further with the "all churches" they did go further to at least the older churches with the classical architecture style so that the sun will shine through the stained glass windows in the morning and highlight the priest. The house internet detective even pulling up the wiki on the subject as our consultant was talking.

How likely is it that Morgan would be completely alone working at night in a busy metropolitan police station. I would have guessed that the majority of crimes happen at night and the place would be very busy.

I can only think of the Baltimore shows, Homicide: Life on the Street and The Wire. "Green" meaning overtime on breaking cases make "red", unsolved cases turn "black." In this case a single section was not working overtime on the case so the special section office was shutdown. If anything happens during the night the local regular homicide detectives like Bosch in his Hollywood Division office would handle the case before a decision was made to approve the overtime to call in the Robbery Homicide Division special Major Crimes section to take over.

    13 hours ago, DMK said:

I actually don’t see why not. Presumably, the police station is relatively close to her house, it can’t be that much of a hardship for them to swing by and pick her up.

Well if it supposed to be "real LA" working for Major Crimes of Robbery Homicide Division she would be out of the police headquarters building downtown. Buses and trains will get you close for a single mother on a cleaning crew. Of course she would be a risk taker to be that close to skid row walking and waiting on public transit at zero dark thirty. In any case there would be a police station relatively near her home to play Uber, but probably not the downtown HQ using their own officers.

    Wow now I’m really confused.
    1. so for three years, she’s been nosy neighbor Agnes? Due to Wanda’s final spell?

    2. But for some reason she fabricated (in her own head) for three days that she was a detective?

    3. did all of that take place in her own house? So the interrogation room (with the painting) was a room in her house? And the only real people were Rio and the teen?

    4. And there wasn’t really a dead body in the woods? Maybe Agatha discovered the locket (the only real item) and that triggered the whole detective fantasy?

Perhaps the multiverse effects finally reached Agatha instead of the instantaneous events normally seen in fiction
