  1. I can't believe we are approaching the season finale so soon. This season has quite a number of great standalone episodes, my favorite being the viking idol one. But there's really no season long arc. The only one I can recall is the Alegaca, which they solved 5 episodes in. I don't consider the Everett Hudson saga to be a new arc, it's just a continuing storyline from season 1. Curious how they will transition to season 3. Please let the Hudson thing be done, because it has been dragging on.
  2. I don't mind the judges but I really hate this AI speed version. The Voice wonders why they can't get superstars. Well, the audience hardly get to know the contestants as singers, let alone as people. Don't expect anyone to get attached to them as artists. I forgot most of them after the show now. Same with this new version of AI. Because of the old AI format, I was obsessed with David Cook for a couple of years. At least it gives the artists longer fan retention after the show. Because of the same reason, I don't fault the judges for not giving constructive (or otherwise) criticism as much as they used to. What's the point when these people perform at the max 5 weeks live? And that is for those lucky enough to stick around. Not enough time to really make an improvement. You either come ready or you are out the door (like Cassandra did).
  3. I like Cam but he needs to cut down the runs by 50%. They can be distracting if done so much. He's a great singer, he doesn't need all of that.
  4. For me she gave the opposite vibe like she's a bit insecure so she has to over-compensate with her singing all the notes. Always "fighting" for it, so to speak.
  5. I'm not sure what Grace was thinking with picking 'A Moment Like This'. At least Kelly sang it with some vulnerability; Grace made it more corny. Such a step back for her; she was awesome last week with "Fix You". She needs to snap out of competition mode some of the time. She's busy showing off all the notes she can sing that I can't pay attention to the storytelling. What was the nice and tactful way Chris Martin put it? "Sometimes the talent can be so big, that you can't quite connect to it" Yeah, that. Willie is a wonderful singer but his single was the weakest of the four. Grace's was generic. Casey and Chayce got the best songs singles out of the lot. Both Casey and Chayce have good recording voices, while Grace and Willie sounded more generic in the records. I'm glad Casey went out on a high note. She's very talented, but a bit under-cooked. She would be even more amazing in a few years.
  6. Chayce finally won me over. He may not have the best vocals out of the top 3 but it's his authenticity and comfort on stage that is very pleasing to watch for me. He just does his thing and I respect it. And I don’t have to worry about some awkward notes from him because he will not even attempt them. Lol.
  7. I agree that the pacing is off and they spent way too much time on Sheldon and his hallucinations. It just got very depressing and boring after a while. It's not even as if his hallucination dead father was saying anything new or revealing each time. It's the same dialogue over and over again. It's fine if they have a 20 episode season. But they spent the entire season on Sheldon's hallucinations and to get to the island to get their powers. A giant waste of majority of the season. The acting was great from everyone though. I like all the actors. Except for the Chloe actress who overacted at times. Girl doesn't know subtlety. On a shallow note, Matt Lanter looks so much better as a blonde. Who knew! Just stunning.
  8. In My Place is one of my favorite Coldplay songs and it has such a wistful tune. What's the point of Arthur singing that with a completely different melody? It's no longer making it your own but he made a completely different song and just used Coldplay lyrics. It's just strange. Chris Martin is so charming it's almost intimidating. I'd be nervous to talk to him. I'll miss Hunter. He has such a beautiful voice and he's one of those singers who always sings "in the pocket" like how they like to say. I hope he'll go onto release music that I can stream.
  9. I loved Grace's performance of "Fix You". This song is overdone as covers and it's not my favorite Coldplay song so I wasn't expecting much but she really made it her own. The parts that wowed me were the small and simple things like how she sang "I......oh I". It was so tasteful and well done. I have not been a Grace fan throughout the season but she's really coming into her own and stopped doing too many stank faces. Thank goodness. Simplicity is the key for Grace. I was disappointed no one sang "Trouble". It's one of the best Coldplay songs ever and if done well, they could have a big moment with it. I have chills whenever Coldplay performs it.
  10. The birth year on Harris' tomb shows he's 31 when he died. It's quite young for an assistant principal, so probably why Kate felt he's relatable and could develop a crush. How he was with Kate... shudders. Jeanette seems innocent to me but I would not want her as a friend. Not the kindest person and quite self-absorbed in all 3 timelines. She's not even honest to her closest friends in 1993. I don't blame Mallory for doubting her. I didn’t really find Jeanette's ending scrunchy scene creepy. At that age, girls may have girl crushes or idolise other girl(s). But usually it's harmless and they grow out of it. She wanted to use the scrunchy as an excuse to befriend Kate. Which I get because Kate seemed like a kind person, who you'd want to be friends with, even aside from the fact that she's rich and pretty. She's kind, even to Jamie, a jerk who gaslit her.
  11. Still don't know what Blake sees in Jordan. He's a mediocre singer at best and not the most original. The only reason I can think of is that Blake likes him as a person or he wants his voters to focus on Cam.
  12. I agree that in this particular instance, Netflix made the right call. This show started off too YA. It can be YA without it appearing juvenile, which unfortunately it did. Bea wasn't written consistently. They could have written Sherlock as a flawed antihero, instead they made him to be a loser. Watson is almost a villain. And Leopold is going to be married off, so I don't see what else they can do with the character next season. Surely he won't be able to hang around this crew anymore.
  13. "We do not govern" is perfectly understandable. And if the other code is "we do not kill non-supes", or "we do not abuse our powers", I will understand that as well since there's a big difference in ability and strength between supes and non-supes. But strictly in battle against other super-powered people? Self-defence or defence of others should be allowable. I cringed more when I see Chloe using/abusing her powers or her friend's powers to intimidate non-supes. Like throwing a car or threatening her landlord. Even if they weren't killed, that's a big abuse of powers. And for that Chloe is trash to me. Knowing the genre tropes, she'll probably be redeemed later on, the bad girl turned good kind of thing. Meh.
  14. Lol, I'm sort of similar. In fact I don't even really care about the plot of this show anymore. But I still watch it casually because I like the lead character (Danielle is a talented actor) and the core group are all likeable kids. And the residual fondness of The Originals. This show leans into the TVD history but I wish it leans into The Originals story more, personally.
  15. It says a lot about Sheldon that the closest people in his life, his wife and two kids, can't stand him at the end of the season. The only person who seems to be on his side is his brother, who is a psychopath manipulating him. I was more interested in the storylines involving George and his son Hutch than the Sampsons. Hutch is a badass even without powers. And flashback George appears to be a kind soul and a good friend. How old is Chloe supposed to be? Her rebellion seems like a phase from a 16-year-old, with the eye rolls and scoffing. We get it, your father is a controlling ass. No need to be a constant brat. Brandon, that sweet boy, has a tinge of unhinged on him. They really raised their kids right. /s
  16. This one is better than last week, but I guessed roughly how the main plot would conclude halfway through it. It's heavy stuff. I wish Nancy would stop yelling at people. That seems to be her default these days, and it hurts my ears. I enjoyed the sub-plot of George/Ace/Bess, even though it was mainly silliness. George and Ace are my favorites individually, so it's great to see them interact more with each other. This show has conditioned me to the point that I find supernatural mysteries more entertaining than the normal ones. The Everett Hudson saga is also getting tiresome now. Once the mystery of Lucy's death was solved, I have no interest in them or Nancy taking them down, Hope they wrap that up soon.
  17. I don't feel bad for Kate's mother at all. She didn't put Kate in the path of Martin directly but because of how dismissive and verbally abusive she was to Kate, Kate felt there's no one to confide in for her issues. Her step-sister also shunned her when she needed someone to talk to. Her boyfriend and her friends also seemed fairly shallow then and she felt won't be able to relate to what she is going through. So at that time, Martin seemed like a wise older brother figure who understood her feelings. She could have used therapy even then but I'm sure Joy would frown upon that too and shame her for it. Kate being frosty towards her step-sister in '94 (?), I understood because the damage (literally) was already done to her. I can also understand her step-sister's bitterness earlier on; she felt that her father was sort of taken from her and her mother. But for Kate, it's too little too late that Ashley is reaching out now. She wasn't there for her when she needed her before. Just a sad situation for all but I don't feel sorry for Kate's mother because she was being big hypocrite scolding Kate about adultery accusations while she herself was having an affair.
  18. For some reason, this episode made me tear up and I didn't think this would happen watching this show. The fear, confusion, sadness, sweetness and bitterness from Kate in all three timelines seemed all too real. I've to say the actress playing Kate is doing a fantastic job. At the end I felt her helplessness at struggling to recall her trauma. Phew. I was more into Jeanette's story initially because I was interested in how an awkward teen became a social butterfly and then her subsequent "downfall". But now Kate's story has me riveted. I hope this show has a satisfying conclusion. It would have been a pity if the build up is good but the ending doesn't deliver.
  19. I'm all for Nace but if they are going to make it angsty and awkward like this episode, I'm not about it. One of the best thing about their friendship/ relationship is their team work and how in sync they are with each other. Hope that doesn't get ruined for long. And Nancy seems to have too much on her plate to be a good girlfriend anyway. Wasn't that how she and Nick fell apart? Nancy is a great person to depend on if you are in a bind or a life or death situation but seems kinda flighty in day to day relationship.
  20. Nancy is acting weird and out of character in this episode. This may be on purpose from the writers but it happened too quickly that it's not natural. How could she have bonded with Celia this quickly in such a short amount of time? She found out Ryan was her father much earlier and she was never this desperate to bond with him. She seems pretty happy with the support she is receiving from Carson and her friends. And since she has known Ryan for longer and they have the same goal in taking Everett down, shouldn't she go to him for things? I'm sure Ryan has goons who can also take care of the name list problem last episode. It's just not adding up. And I don't understand why she was so cold to Ace in the last scene when he was trying to reach out to her. There may be some awkward tension between them but not to that extent that they can't even talk properly.
  21. I'm not sure if the show is trying with making young Jeanette likable in 1993 or not but it's not working. She comes across as a holier-than-thou hypocrite. She's always the first to correct her friends on any "immoral" things but she's out there lying and breaking into people's home. She crossed a line when she flushed down her friend's pot. It isn't hers in the first place to get rid of it. She could still say no and return it. And then at the end she kept some of it, ultimately stealing it and lying to her friends, while putting on a good girl persona.
  22. Aw, I like Hunter's blonde halo curls. I have enjoyed all of Hunter's performances; he may not be the most powerful singer but I think he has a gift for song delivery. He connects every time.
  23. Ethan has a great voice but lacking individuality. Nevertheless I would have gone with him over Jordan. Jordan sounded really flat on the low notes. Pete is probably my favorite performer of the night. I loved the way he sauntered across the stage when he was singing. Weirdly engaging stage presence. Andrew I thought was a better singer but more bland.
  24. Nancy and Ace are more compatible, with their curious nature and their penchant for breaking rules/the law (though well-meaning). Even when the five of them were arguing in episode 5 of this season, they stood up for each other because they get each other. Nick is more of a reasonable and down to earth guy. So Nick and Nancy couldn't really understand each other. On the other hand, are Ace and Nancy too similar? I feel like they would get into a lot of trouble together, lol. I guess they already do. Speaking of, more and more Nancy is like a Macgyver type of character who has brilliant ideas to get out of a jam, but Ace actually does more of the sleuthing.
  25. Hunter in that outfit really looks like Trent Harmon, a past American Idol winner. Now that I think about it, they both have that beautiful nasally kind of tone. But Trent is a powerhouse of a singer compared to Hunter.
