  1. My biggest question coming out of the episode was whether Holden would feel betrayed by Bobbie trying to shoot him. Although he’s probably over that, what the 2001 Space Odyssey moment. clarissa/Melba is not very dynamic as a villain or a conflicted character. She seems to have decided destroying Holden is worth any level of collateral damage. I guess it does make obvious that she has inherited her fathers sense of morality, but it’s telling that I simply find her annoying.
  2. So the current ‘Klingons have basically won and we have awesome fungus drive’ plot still seems to tread on the canon a fair amount - although the war with the Klingons would explain how hostile the old guard is with each other in Star Trek VI. I dunno - I still wonder if Timey-Wimey shenanigans will be the tool used to correct canon and the timeline. After all, the spire drive pushed them forward in time - no reason it can’t go back.
  3. So Doug Jones has just been cast in a new pilot (a What we do in the Shadows tv remake) - given how busy he is with movie roles as well, I’m not sure how this bodes for Saru in the next episode.
  4. This episode did nothing to dissuade me that Ash is some kind of spy. Even during the previous 'escape episode' they dropped hints that he wasn't who he appeared to be .... now he 'Fights like a Klingon'? Yeah. Although that said, I thought they would bring back Capt. Georgiou because her death wound didn't seem so deadly, but we all know how that prediction turned out. I also predicted Lorca would blow up the shuttle with the Admiral. So based on my track record thus far this could all be a massive misdirect and Tilly was the spy the whole time! Still unhappy they had to go and link Michael's history to Spock and Sarek (it makes the universe seem very, very small) but James Frain was great. More of him thanks.
  5. The new show runner was apparently the director of Electra. That does not bode well, but it was 12 years ago so maybe it's not a predictor of success. i agree with others in the thread about 13 episodes giving shows the chance to try one-off story episodes. I would have really enjoyed a few 'Matt Murdock, attorney at law' episodes without being subsumed by the overarching plot. And don't get me started with 13 episodes of Killgrave ...
  6. The big question in my mind is whether or not the QA troops being mowed down were Hosts (perhaps a seperate pool maintained by QA) or humans. If Humans, then that makes Felix's actions much less sympathetic.
  7. Excellent, thank you Raachel2008. Nice to know its setup and not just me being dense.
  8. What happened to the Mongols heading to Xanadu who were 'delayed' - was it the mythical Prestor John lampshades in the previous episode, or just the Christian Mongols attacking rivals?
  9. Agreed - it really felt like the show was setting up a lot of elements that really had no time to pay off. Hyde and Catriona, specifically, felt like they were just waiting for a future storyline in order for their existence in the show to be justified. As it is they were simply distracting - especially Catriona, who feels like she is from another TV show entirely and suffers also because she is effectively a replacement for Mr. Lyle. If the season had been more focused it would have felt like less of a betrayal at the end. As it was Vanessa felt like an extra in her TV show, Malcolm spent most of his time sitting in Trains or Ships, and key characters never met (Brona/Ethan). "The End" indeed.
  10. Hmm. I enjoyed the pilot, but not as much as I was hoping. The comic moved fast in hindsight, moving straight into a road trip/chase scenario. The TV show is taking its time. The Arseface scene was great. Stills of the makeup left me cynical, but it really worked well in the show. Someone up thread opined that Comic!Tulip had been split into two characters - assassin cliche tough girl Tulip and iPad-smasher. That kind of makes sense given what I saw, but it is a shame. Comic!Tulip was probably the character I empathised with the most early on (the botched hit being what won me over). I guess I have to let the show be its own thing. At least it's set in Texas, the characters have the right names, and Dominic Coopers Jesse is an improvement over the sometimes 2-d Comic!Jesse.
  11. ... Well, TV Tulip is much more of a comic book character than TV Tulip. And by sticking with Annville for a longer period they are losing much of the momentum and 'Terminator' vibe the comics have. I'll still be sticking around. Curious to see how it compares.
  12. This. This has been bothering me since the start. In no way was the attempt on her a competent attempt at a kidnapping, and the amount of collateral damage inflicted leaves me wanting someone to eliminate all of Famke J's spinoff crew before it starts.
  13. I had a brief moment of hope at the start of the season that the murdered-neighbours would become a major plot point. Alas, Black Claw and Magic Babies happened ... I'm actually enjoying the more gruesome Wesen of the Week formula from the last few weeks. I remember the first season being a bit more edgy at times, nice to see them recapturing that spirit. The show still amazes me how great it is with it's characters sometimes, and how godawful at others.
  14. I kind of hope they are simply burning through what is left of the Dorne storyline as fast as they can, given they somehow chose three actresses with zero charisma as the Sand Snakes and then proceeded to feed them scripts that must have been written by the intern. My main problem with S6e1 was that in at least two situations - Nights Watch in a room, Sand Snakes in Dorne - the motivations and actions involved made very little sense. Why hide Jon's body in the room, and become a target for the rest of the NW brothers? (Although once in the situation, Ser Davos proved he is even more awesome without Stannis around). And Dorne - 'We're killing our own familty to avenenge our family!' - WTF? The good: Tyrion and Varys. Sansa and Brienne. IMHO the writing, directing and acting came together in these scenes. ... Assuming there are only a couple of seasons left, and DnD don't crap the bed totally like those behind True Blood did, I'll be watching until the bitter end.
