Kevin Dobson, who was known for his roles on Kojak and Knots Landing, died yesterday at the age of 77 from a heart attack:

The obit from The Hollywood Reporter makes no mention of his cause of death being a heart attack, as the soap opera news-related story does. THR says he was struggling with an autoimmune disorder (which was unnamed in the obit)

I started watching Season 6 . I am surprised that President Bartlett picked CJ to be his Chief of Staff. Wouldn't Josh being a more logical pick ?

Josh had more knowledge of politics than CJ .

Josh could also be rude & undiplomatic to the wrong people, as seen in the Mary Marsh incident; he could also be a hothead. I don’t think you want a rude, undiplomatic, hothead dealing with the kind of people a White House COS has to deal with; besides the staff that is.

  3. There’ll be a BET/ET joint venture special on the life & legacy of Chadwick Boseman, hosted by ET’s Kevin Frazier, on BET this Sunday, September 6, at 9PM Eastern/Pacific. It will be preceded by the movie Marshall, in which Chadwick portrayed Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, on BET at 6PM Eastern/Pacific. The article regarding this special programming is in the Celebrity News thread.

  4. SNL has announced they’re planning to repeat the 2018 episode hosted by Chadwick Boseman this Saturday night. It’s on NBC (or it should be, anyway; check your local listings for the correct time & channel in your market—sometimes SNL airs tape-delayed since it’s after the Saturday late news). Usually it airs at about 11:35PM Eastern/10:35PM Central.

Man.  Sigh. RIP Mr. Thompson, sir.

I am a Syracuse University Newhouse School alum. I am totally aging myself, but I was a student during the heyday of the Big East Conference (pour one out for the loss of a truly great conference).  And let me tell you nothing was more thrilling during conference games than our rivalry with Georgetown.

I only keep Facebook to connect with my college posse and some of the family members I prefer to keep at computer distance, and my entire FB feed was nothing but respect for this man.  For all that we HATED Georgetown everyone of us had mad respect for John Thompson.  Especially since at the time it was so rare to see a black head coach at that level.

Regarding the bolded: He was the first African-American coach to lead a team to the NCAA Men’s Basketball title when the Georgetown Hoyas won in 1984.

  6. Earlier this morning, they were talking about Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death on GMA Sunday & they said ABC was planning to air a tribute special in his honor, tonight at 8PM Eastern/7PM Central. They might’ve said there would be related programming after that, but I didn’t hear that part too clearly, unfortunately.

It ran half a season before being cancelled 40 years ago. I'm not surprised Lowe doesn't remember it - or doesn't acknowledge it, hoping other people don't remember it.

He actually has acknowledged it in the past, at least once & maybe more, which is why his saying TWW was his first show surprised me.

  8. The video @ProudMary posted upthread is the 1 I referred to in my post about the upcoming Entertainment Weekly TWW stuff, where Rob Lowe refers to the show as his first television show, though it wasn’t. It was actually a short-lived ABC sitcom called A New Kind of Family; he was 15 at the time he was in this show. That info is verifiable here.

Alex has pancreatic cancer. Mostly people die from that within a few months to a year. It is the same cancer that killed Patrick sawazy and my grandfather. Obviously, Alex thankfully is still with us, but I felt I needed to correct this.

Thanks. I meant Pancreatic Cancer & ended up typing Prostate. I’ll fix.

4 years with colon cancer. Which means he had it during filming of all MCU movies except Civil War.

I really wanted to see a movie with Chadwick Boseman and Bokeem Woodbine playing off each other, preferably as brothers. Never to be :(.

Regarding the bolded: I read an obit somewhere (I forget where) overnight that said he was originally diagnosed with Stage III Colon Cancer but it unfortunately progressed to Stage IV. It also said he worked on his films after diagnosis around & during his chemo treatments & surgery for the illness.  But Alex Trebek’s been doing Jeopardy! through his Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer treatment, at least before the COVID shutdown—I don’t know if they’ve resumed filming yet—so it’s not impossible to have such a devastating form of the disease & continue to work.
