  1. From ESPN: Chicago Bears Hall of Fame Running Back Gale Sayers Dies at Age 77

He had been living with dementia in recent years. His friendship with fellow Bears player Brian Piccolo, whose football career & life were cut short by a terminal form of cancer, was depicted in Sayers’ autobiography, I Am Third & in 2 versions of the TV movie Brian’s Song—the 1971 classic original, starring Billy Dee Williams & James Caan as Sayers & Piccolo; & a lesser-known/remembered 2001 remake, starring Mekhi Phifer (ER) & Sean Maher as Sayers & Piccolo.

  2. Bad Education, a TV movie in which Allison Janney appears (with blonde hair) won the Emmy in the category of Outstanding Television Movie at this year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards presentation last night. The movie aired on HBO, according to the article.

Bradley Whitford is a nominee again this year in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category, for his role in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which (ironically) stars fellow Emmy winner, & TWW co-star (she, of course, played youngest Bartlet daughter, Zoey) Elisabeth Moss. Bradley’s category will be awarded during the Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, on ABC tonight beginning at 8PM Eastern/7PM Central. If you miss the category by the time you read this, the winners list is well-publicized in the media & it’s on the Television Academy website, Emmys.com, so you can see if Bradley won. If he should win, & you miss the presentation of his category, his acceptance speech should show up on YouTube at some point in the next few days, if it’s not also on the Television Academy’s website.

  3. Watching the Atlanta version, the ep with the bride who had her heart set on a, like, 5-year-old gown Lori’s shop no longer carried & Maddie from the country music duo Maddie & Tae picking out bridesmaids’ dresses. I have 1 question: What the heck kinda spelling for a name (besides a bad 1, in my opinion) is BRIEAWNA (she was a new consultant, I think working with the bride looking for the 5-year-old gown)?

  4. I was just coming to post about Justice Ginsburg. I just got a notification on my iPhone about her passing from NBC News. It’s on all the cable news networks, by the way. I was watching NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt; the commercial networks haven’t broken in yet, that I know of. I doubt we’ll get a woman to replace her; that saddens me.

    Sounds delicious!

I know! I looked for them on Amazon today; either they aren’t quite out yet or they won’t be sold through Amazon (yes I’ve bought food, mostly snack type stuff, through Amazon before & never had issues with any of it). They might end up being a Walmart exclusive or something. The article I linked didn’t say.

From NY Daily News: Edna Wright, lead singer of ‘Want Ads’ R&B group Honey Cone, dead at 76

She was the younger sister of Darlene Love, and the cause of death was a heart attack. She also suffered from Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

I think the group’s name was actually Honey Comb, like the Post cereal & the waxy stuff bees make honey in.

  7. I want at least Tom back too, for the reasons already enumerated in the thread. If anyone was playing a drinking game last night, based on how many times Tyra reminded everyone the show was live, I think they’d have gotten pretty plastered.

This scary picture just greeted me over at the Daily Mail just now.  It actually startled me.  Too early in the morning for this.  Tragic wig.  So, so bad.  And the dress.  And is she wearing shiny hose?  No words.

Happily, she changed into something else that was at least a little more understated, except for the necklace she wore with it, after the opening segment  (if not then, at some point anyway).

She's also already an ABC employee. Seems like a slam dunk.  You have two other hosts on her current show to hold the fort. Unlike Tyra Banks, she'd actually bring or stand a chance of holding young viewers.

Regarding the bolded: Actually, they’ve canceled Strahan, Sara and Keke (I’m assuming that’s the show you’re referring to). It was replaced shortly after the pandemic started by a daily show talking about that.

  10. Jesse Metcalfe isn’t just known for his work on Desperate Housewives & various Hallmark Channel shows. He also played the adult version of Christopher Ewing, adopted son of Bobby Ewing (Patrick Duffy) & the late Pamela Barnes Ewing (Victoria Principal), on the TNT reboot of Dallas a few years back (before, & basically until, the cancer-related death of Larry Hagman who played the eldest Ewing brother, & the show’s supervillain, JR). To be clear, Victoria Principal was not in the TNT reboot version of the show, only in the CBS  original until a season number I can’t remember, though she left before it ended on CBS.

But is she so popular either?  I have literally never heard of her in any context outside of DWTS.  I guess I'm way out of the "zeitgeist."  Or perhaps I just don't know or care to learn about the WWE.  I have friends to whom she probably is big indeed.  (And I mean that without a hint of snark.)

Nikki Bella & her twin sister, Brie, also have a reality show, Total Bellas, on the E! network/channel(?).

This makes me think of that time Maks and I cant think of her name but it was Nick's wife from the group 98 degrees were partners and in one of their packages she was playing around with a fake mike and trying to act like a host and Maks called her out and said u know Tom isnt going anywhere? Its funny how somethin so playful yet felt very true ends up being direct opposite a couple of seasons later.

Nick’s wife is Vanessa (Minnillo) Lachey.

Personally, I've come to the conclusion that ABC just wants to end this show but its ratings in comparison to say Idol and even the Bachelor franchise, is pretty solid or along the same line. And so to avoid angry petitions from fans to not cancel it, they're doing everything to ensure the ratings go to complete shit, so when they do cancel it, they can comfortably say, "well the ratings didn't justify keeping it on anymore". Anyway, that's my conspiracy theory.

They probably also at least kind of have to keep it on until at least the end of the year or the beginning of 2021. Thanks to all the virus-related restrictions, it’ll probably be at least November, if not later, until the scripted shows ordered for this fall are ready to premiere. The “reality” shows, at least most of them except maybe Survivor (which I think is already delayed) & The Amazing Race (the status of which I’m unsure), mostly don’t require any sort of travel that would result in quarantining after or before & episodes can be produced faster than the scripted shows. I read that many of the networks could have a lotta “reality” programming on their schedules this fall to fill the gaps left by scripted shows that have been delayed in production because of the virus & the social distancing restrictions currently required among people.

Hello All!   I skipped most of last season and missed talking with all of you.

I saw DWTS news on my IG feed this morning.  I see Derek's back on the turf that made him famous (I guess the movie/Broadway star thing didn't work out, eh?).  Reading comments above from those keeping closer track of events, it appears he'll be taking Len's seat, though I wonder if he'll be treated as "head judge" (my guess is it's in his contract demands) and how CAI (is she returning?) will take getting stepped over? Hmmm! I've seen a little of World of Dance and it appears Derek has become a master of reaction faces - it seems to be all he really does other than a few prepared remarks.  How he'll do giving comments live on-the-spot...well, we'll see.  I'd expect a lot of showboating with him going around the table to grab whatever celeb and demonstrating the moves (especially that twisty arm pretzel thing he loves to do!).  He'd never be mistaken for a natural public speaker.  But mercy! Derek and Bruno on the same judging table?  JLo can keep Derek and Neyo in line but I doubt CAI will have any influence over Derek and Bruno.

I've been a little lukewarm about watching this season but I'll probably tune in for at least the first couple of shows.  Very disappointed that Tom and Erin got unceremoniously dumped.  Can't stand Tyra but she could have been softed a bit if she were to co-host with Tom.  But I supposed it's all Tyra or no Tyra.

Most interested to see Pasha again and to see how Daniella teaches.  I'll be happy seeing Sharna and Cheryl again.  Sharna looks so much better with the blondish/pinkish hair than all that red.  IMO the ones who endured the rigors of the pro/am competition circuit, Blackpool, and Burn The Floor are sooo much more talented and exciting to watch than the rest of them, including those SYTYCD grads.  Just my personal preference, of course.

Well, that's all for now.  Look forward to reading your comments and opinions!

    Uke

Yes. Carrie Ann’s returning. At least she was the last I heard. I have to say, I think at least Tom, especially Tom (though in many ways Erin too), in my opinion got a raw deal. Or at least little to no respect in how his exit was handled after he hosted for so long. If Tyra doesn’t tank the show this season, I hope she’s a “1 & done” as host & they bring at least Tom back for S30.
