  1. It was a drone that Asher was piloting to chase Jonas when he ran off with Gabe.
  2. I've been waiting not so patiently for this movie and I was not disappointed. I would never argue for it as a great movie, but I enjoyed it and thought it was a pretty good adaptation. I have a friend who refuses to see it because of the change in Jonas's age, but it didn't bother me at all. I thought Thwaites did a good job playing Jonas as innocent enough for it to be believable. Also, Swift was hardly in the movie at all, thank goodness (she was the only thing I was dreading). Katie Holmes was definitely the low point, but overall I really liked it. If anything, I wish they would have been more graphic in the memories Jonas was receiving. I was shocked though, in a good way, that the Holocaust wasn't one of them. It would have been too cliché. Though I'm not sure the war scenes got across the pain and suffering and hate that I would have liked. The romance was definitely there, but I didn't think it took over the movie at all. I liked the girl who played Fiona and I loved the tray sliding scene.
  3. I watched The Mighty Ducks last night on Netflix and was happy to see they also have D2, which I think is superior. I don't even like hockey, but damn if I don't cheer like crazy when they pull the flying v!
  4. The Giver has been one of my favorite books since I first read it eighteen years ago, and the movie did not disappoint me. (Moving more discussion to The Giver topic). I tried SO HARD not to read the book version of This is Where I Leave You once my lady hero, Tina Fey, was cast, but I couldn't hold out. I read it. So I have high hopes for that one too, but I feel pretty certain I won't be disappointed.
  5. Considering all the Affleck hate in here, I'm going to confess my unpopular opinion: I have a deep, abiding love for Jersey Girl. I certainly would never argue for it as a great movie, but I love it. I also don't get the appeal of Jennifer Lawrence. I think she can be very good (Winter's Bone, Poker House), but I hated Silver Linings Playbook and I always catch her acting. And I don't find her all that amusing in real life.
  6. I can't stand Leonardo DiCaprio at all. Elizabeth Banks also annoys me in large doses, but I admit that is most likely due to her presence bringing down seasons 4-5 of 30 Rock (yep, I blame it all on her).
  7. I've been rooting for Rod Man to win for most of the season, but damn if Lachlan didn't make me switch my allegiance last night! I've always liked him too, since the first vote when he went into the booth with a joke and I think he definitely had the best sets last night. For the first time, I found it really hard to follow Rod Man. So I'm happy Rod Man won, but also would have been happy with Lachlan. And I liked his answer to what he would do with the money. A rare serious moment from him. This was my first season, starting watching on a whim but immediately got hooked. I'll be back next season no matter what, but can we keep Roseanne and get rid of Keenan?
  8. BBQ pork summer rolls with peanut sauce - my latest food obsession!
  9. I recently watched A Serbian Film and every scene in that movie was more disturbing than the last. The titular scene from The Stoning of Soraya M. is forever burned in my brain. And finally: You're Next. Blender.
  10. I just finished The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion which was a fun, quick read. Currently reading a non-fic about a hike on the Appalachian Trail: A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson and it is hilarious.
  11. Rod Man has really grown on me - he's now my favorite to win. I like them all, actually. How refreshing! Agree that it was Rocky's time to go, and Nikki should follow next week.
  12. Leah Remini is the worst. For the love of Xenu, shut up! On the other hand, this is the first time ever I've enjoyed Scott Foley's presence. Once again, sick of Clue-Boom. And I was just devastated that Scott couldn't come up with Tina Fey. *sigh* (also, terrible drawing, pre-teen!)
  13. I really liked this episode a lot, despite its grimness. But I don't hold a grudge against Lindelof, so I'm willing to take this ride wherever it goes. As Matt pointed out in his recap, in the pilot, students didn't participate in the Pledge of Allegiance, but the majority did participate in the prayer. So theoretically, the departure has made people more religious, but if that were the case, why was attendance at Rev's church so low? Are people more spiritual but less religious? It certainly doesn't seem like the human race has become "better", considering all of the violence this episode and the attack in the pilot on the GR.
  14. I know it's getting terrible reviews, but I loved it! They did well by starting with Tammy singing along to the radio in the car, because the idea alone makes me giggle, McCarthy s great at those scenes. The only part I thought they dropped the ball on was Great cast, Mark Duplass was especially charming.
  15. One of my favorite reads recently, along with Eleanor & Park, is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It's on the young side of YA, but it is a fantastic read. Also, a great dystopian series is the Wool series by Hugh Howey.
  16. I really liked this series too and always thought it would make a great movie (but just one please, enough with the long drawn out adaptations!)
  17. As someone with an irrational hatred of Comic Sans, the font, the line to Daya made me laugh out loud. Though not the same as a prison newsletter, nothing irks me more than seeing comic sans used in a professional setting.
  18. When that Golden Girl started covering up the hole with boards, I was convinced that somehow the other entrance would get blocked and Vee would get stuck there. Not sure if I would have preferred that to Rosa running her down or not. Either way, I'm glad she's gone. A lot of characters have done terrible things on this show, but they always had a reason, no matter how stupid it was. Vee was just evil for evil's sake.
  19. The girls who played Young Suzanne were so great! I was so happy to get more of her story. Vee is going to be trouble.
  20. I'm not sure any line on this show has made me happier than hearing Baelish say "some men die sitting on their chamber pots". I can take a lot of gore, but even I had to cover my eyes for Oberon's ending. Brutal. I'm going to miss Tyrion/Jamie scenes, they're always a delight.
  21. Tina Fey, Tina Fey, oh and Tina Fey. Emma Thompson would also be an amazing get.
  22. Well at least we got the answer to why George was stabbing himself in the leg. This show is batshit crazy, but I love it!
  23. Wait a second. The guy normal saying "not a nickle back" for "quarterback" was okay?! I thought both Lauren and Rita represented themselves well. You could tell the normal on that team was so over Michael's antics. Jerome was pretty terrible (you couldn't get motorcycle? Maybe he thinks the only mode of transportation is "bus"?). Gillian and Joe were pretty good. I would have picked Lauren for the final round, but she can get flustered so maybe it would have been a bad choice! I couldn't believe Gillian kept saying the name in the final round though. Are there only a certain number of clues? There must be since when you pass it comes back around. If she had said "his middle initial is L" for Samuel L Jackson, would there have been no way for them to get to 10 points? Am I thinking too much about a stupid game on a stupid TV show? Definitely. I'm still over clue-boom. I don't mind the drawing game but I think it's confusing.
  24. I'm pretty sure I'm out too. It's really ridiculous there wasn't a wedding. So next season, Castle will either just be done the road healthy and in one piece, in which case why bother with the accident, or he'll be missing or assumed dead, delaying the wedding even more. Give me a break. Plus I'm not thrilled with the way Kate's been acting this season. she seems straight out of fan fiction - all schmoopy and in love. It is possible to make happy, together couples interesting. Continually throwing obstacles their way is not how. Bah. This made me grumpy and I haven't even been invested most of the season.
  25. I am usually not one to notice bad CGI, but this was so terrible that even I noticed it! So, so fake. During their discussion outside the institute, Burke admitted to following Cristina's career and then said "what, you haven't followed mine?" and she didn't answer, leading us to believe that she had. And yet, she had NO IDEA he would be there? Nope. I love Amelia. I loved her on Private Practice and I love the idea of her taking Cristina's "place". I always think of the younger generation as "the interns", but I think they're residents now? Either way, I hate them all. They need to go away. I've always been a fan of April and Jackson and their storyline has so many possibilities, but I fear it will be glossed over for more screen time for the remaining interns.
