This isn't all that true - a number of factors seem to have affected the age of first marriage at various points in history across all cultures. For example, the age of first marriage in England was possibly higher during parts of the 17th century than it was in 1950. The age of first marriage in the USA was also much younger in 1970 than in 1890 which you wouldn't expect if it was all based on cultural mores.
