  1. They all seem to fist bump all the time. I’m old, so I don’t know how great it looks to be acting like you won a football game or something after you make sacred vows. YMMV
  2. As long as they work, I don't mind, though my son always got crayola ones. Over the last 10 years or so, there have been a real quality issue with the cheaper crayons and markers, but especially pencils. Roseart crayons are really waxy and do not color well. The cheapie pencil leads are broken inside the pencils, so all you do is continually sharpen them. It’s very frustrating for all concerned. The “cute” pencils that have the plastic coating, not only have the crappy lead, but the plastic gums up the pencil sharpeners. Most educators would probably agree with me. In my district in rural WV, it’s kind of a moot point. If a teacher requires something is needed for their class, the teacher is responsible for providing it. No sending home lists here.
  3. I am about to begin my 33rd year as a school counselor, and I get almost as excited as Izzy about school supplies. At first, When they were having him read the list, my reaction was that this kid probably can’t read yet, but he did recognize the numbers and did a good job of crossing out items as they got them. I also liked how they spent time helping him pick out the items. If I ran into them at Walmart, I wouldn’t roll my eyes at them, as I do with so many families. Everyone was polite and happy. I will throw shade at them for buying the Roseart crayons and markers, as well as off brand pencils. Sorry, but Crayola markers and crayons are the way to go, as are Ticonderoga pencils. They cost more, but work so much better.
  4. I watched both episodes of Beaches Around the World. The first was a young widow who was moving to a cay in Belize with her 4 kids and their uncle. Both, Belize and Azores, had house hunters who were the definition of the word “extra”. I was hoping someone would post about it.
  5. My husband is a judge in WV. I can say that if a family is in the court system due to neglect/abuse, they can be made to go to public schools. The parents in those cases may not have lost all parental rights, but are limited to physical custody, meaning that the court can make pretty much all parental decisions for the child. That includes attending school. From his experience, and mine from 30+ years in the educational system, most of the home schooling done by parents in the system is inadequate at best. I don’t think that the Rods had gotten that far in the pipeline, because the case would follow them wherever they go. Lots of people try to move, but the mean old judge can find them and make them come to his court. I have seen it happen.
  6. When Tim started walking into the creek, I had to wonder if he was just keep on going until he disappeared.
  7. And we always served it with a big green salad and some homemade bread.
  8. Was I the only one cringing watching those kids go all over that dock. They did have life preservers on, but watching Sam toddle all over and lean over the water scared me. Maybe I’m a overprotective person.
  9. Holy crap! JRod uses the same pediatrician group my kids went to when they were little. (They are 23,26 and 28 now.). They are an excellent group of docs. The male doc in the practice was the one the kids saw, as well as the two older female docs if ours wasn’t in. They are all knowledgeable about their field. I miss seeing my kid’s old doctor, and we still send him a Christmas card.
  10. I think they are all wearing Sissonville Indian shirts. That’s their local evil public school, that they will never set foot in. I suppose Jill went to the local Walmart or Dollar General to pick them up to represent the home town.
  11. It's sort of sad that people feel you need to have a bar at a wedding for it to be fun. We did have alcohol at our wedding nearly 30 years ago. My son and his wife got married 1 1/2 years ago. Her stepfather is an ugly drunk, as well as several others in her family. They had the wedding at the performing arts center of the Methodist college they attended (like Colleen of the "carry your seed" fame) and the reception at the dining complex. It was dry, but it was very nice. Some of the bride's family had imbibed, but they were pretty mellow and left to drink somewhere else. I really don't have anything against people that indulge. I stopped drinking when I got pregnant with my nearly 28 year old and just didn't take it up again.
  12. Thanks to your help, I just enjoyed this episode. Maybe the reason it is not on the rotation is that the brides are really pretty nice to each other. It is on the TLC page, and since Dish Network, our provider, was on that list, I watched it for free.
  13. Apparently, there were several of us it was bugging. "And a Hurricane" was the one that the one bride's wedding was scheduled during Hurricane Sandy, right? I remember the puppet bride too. That's hard to forget, although the seed carrier sort of overshadowed her a good bit. 😁
