  5. It's kind of wild to read the comments posted on the stories about this change at the "Late Show" and see how many people are claiming that CBS should have hired someone who is not as "liberal" as Colbert. The more reasonable commenters seem to have the following critiques: 1. Colbert talks over his guests / is a poor or ill-prepared interviewer 2. A LOT of people don't like the band's music and/or Colbert's interactions with Jon Baptiste 3. The show is too political / the show is not political enough Obviously you can't please everybody, but I certainly think there's room for improvement...
  6. Inside CBS’ Bid to Bolster ‘Late Show With Stephen Colbert’
  7. Didn't Roy Wood Jr. do a piece a few weeks ago about racism in porn? I think the stereotype about Asian guys came up then too.
  8. 4/18: Ellie Kemper (actor – promoting Netflix series “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”) 4/19: Dr. Ben Carson (retired Pediatric Neurosurgeon & former Republican presidential candidate) 4/20: Sturgill Simpson (musician – promoting album “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth”) 4/21: TBD
  9. Oh my gosh, Patton Oswalt was hilarious on last night's show. I loved the segment with the dog! And Tinder Tapout was amazing too. Definitely the best episode of the series so far, in my opinion... makes me happy that it'll be back in June. I'm seeing Nikki live in San Francisco this weekend, so I'm looking forward to that!
  10. Thursday's "unedited" episode was only about 2 minutes longer than the televised one. They don't seem to do super-sized unedited eps anymore. I remember one with the cast of "Reno 911!" that was almost a full hour long. Nowadays it seems the main difference is that they don't bleep the swear words.
  11. LOL at Alex's comment at the end of the show about Ken's poor showing being due to him "not able to ring in" before the other two contestants, or something like that. It seemed like he was subtly throwing shade at Ken's hideous buzzer-mashing technique. I was SO GLAD to see that Ricky had made it a runaway, just because it ensured that Ken would be one-and-done.
  12. I'm sure Jon Stewart would cheer Bruce Springsteen canceling his concert in North Carolina in protest of the new laws. (Though I am VERY bummed on behalf of my progressive friend who had tickets to see him there -- luckily, he was very understanding of Bruce's decision.) I really hope TDS stays on this story!
  13. If you've been waiting for Carrot Top to appear, well, next week's guest list brings good news: "@midnight" Guests include Logan Paul, Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, Brittany Furlan (Monday, April 11); Carrot Top, Lamorne Morris, Arden Myrin (Tuesday, April 12); Cast of "Time Traveling Bong" - Ilana Glazer and Paul Downs, Lucia Aniello (Wednesday, April 13); Annie Lederman, Mike Lawrence, Rich Eisen (Thursday, April 14).
  14. I've been in restaurants where there have been one-toilet bathrooms (i.e. not several stalls, just a bathroom with one sink and one toilet) marked by gender. My question is, WHY? It's not like you're going to run into somebody if the bathroom is just for one person, for Pete's sake. Also, women take longer in the bathroom, so often the men's room is empty while people are waiting to get in the ladies' room. So open gender bathrooms could benefit many more people. I was thinking that somebody should ask one of these transphobic wackos like the "chaplain," "So you want Caitlyn Jenner, dressed in a skirt and heels, to have to use the men's room?" But I think the commenter above who said ultimately these folks believe trans people simply shouldn't use public bathrooms AT ALL is spot on. Just hold it, trans folks!
  15. I loved the Soul Daddy episode! Larry was great. Loved his reaction to Obama being president. Jake Tapper, on the other hand, seemed a little weirded-out by the whole SD concept. (I'm sure he was booked weeks ago and had no idea what he'd be in for!)
  16. Fresh Air had a nice long interview with Sam today, now available for streaming/downloading.
  17. He mentioned in his latest newsletter that he's also going to be a contestant on the CNN quiz show on Sunday, April 17, and he has a Showtime special debuting April 29. So there are lots of opportunities to catch him on TV this spring. Hooray!!
  18. W. Kamau Bell!!!!! 4/11: Jennifer Hudson (actor – promoting play “The Color Purple” & HBO movie “Confirmation”) 4/12: King Bach (comedian) 4/13: Ken Jeong (actor – promoting ABC TV show “Dr. Ken”) 4/14: W. Kamau Bell (comedian and host of CNN’s “United Shades of America”)
  19. Ha, this makes me think of Miss Alli's (now Linda Holmes of NPR) Amazing Race recaps on Television Without Pity. Whenever somebody would pray for God to help them during the race, she'd say, "God is in the bathtub."
  20. Reruns again already? Friday, April 8 John Oliver; World #1 Golfer Jordan Spieth; musical performance by New Order (OAD: 3/14/16) Monday, April 11 Steve Martin & Edie Brickell; Shirley MacLaine; interview with Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel and performance with orchestra (OAD: 3/15/16) Tuesday, April 12 Tom Hiddleston; Laura Benanti from the CBS drama series “Supergirl”; musical performance by Frightened Rabbit (OAD: 3/28/16) Wednesday, April 13 Sally Field; Jerrod Carmichael; musical performance by Esperanza Spalding (OAD: 3/9/16) Thursday, April 14 Michael Strahan; Samantha Bee; musical performance by Wilco (OAD: 2/4/16)
  21. Next week's guests include Jon Daly, Emily Fleming, Matt Braunger (Monday, April 4); Randall Park, Maria Thayer, Chelsey Crisp (Tuesday, April 5); Keegan-Michael Key, Tiffany Haddish, Jamar Neighbors, Cast of "Keanu" (Wednesday, April 6); Emo Philips, Reggie Watts, Rachel Bloom (Thursday, April 7).
  22. Next week's guests include Mike Epps (Monday, April 4); Logic (Tuesday, April 5); Wendell Pierce (Wednesday, April 6). Additional guests TBA.
  23. Guests include Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Chairman of the DNC (Monday, April 4); Jerrod Carmichael, comedian & actor starring in "The Carmichael Show" (Tuesday, April 5); Angelica Ross, actor & founder of TransTech (Wednesday, April 6); Juan Williams, Fox News political analyst & author of the book "We The People: The Modern-Day Figures Who Have Reshaped and Affirmed the Founding Fathers' Vision of America" (Thursday, March 17). -> I assume they mean "Thursday, April 7" there
  24. Jessica's 2 Dope Queens podcast starts April 5. I can only hope that if her career really takes off outside TDS, that it won't become Bugle-like in its infrequency!
  25. In case anyone besides me is still watching this show: it's been picked up for an additional 10 episodes. The segment where Nikki and Kyle Kinane are telling the porn stars what to say while they're having sex is comedy gold. Last night's was even better than the first. (Those two porn stars are VERY game!)
