  1. Ten Forward doesn't need rescuing! Now, Quark's, on the other hand, WAS in an early draft...
  2. The show was kind of unclear on this (probably so they could keep Taylor Schilling -- or not -- as needed), but I sort of thought that Piper had some time added onto her sentence during the Chicago trial when Alex screwed her over. So I'm not sure the 15 months is completely a given.
  3. Sarah found the one thing that could potentially make me love The Amazing Race more.
  4. At least one team per season claims in exit interviews that they were running the race on some kind of torn muscle or hairline fracture but they didn't say anything at the time because they didn't want to get medically pulled. Smart? No. Comfortable? No. And I'm not sure all of them are totally truthful about the extent of said injuries since you can save a lot of face by claiming you were in pain the whole time...but I don't believe most of them are lying. Also, Blair did 3 roadblocks to Scott's 4 so she was hardly strongarming him into doing all the work.
  5. Much as I can't stand the guy, St. Marq did do one of the best pieces I've EVER seen on this show last season during stained glass week, so I guess that's one compelling reason to bring him back. He's not exactly versatile, though, and he's so much of a douche it actually gets in the way of his work most of the time, which I guess makes him a pretty good early "boss battle" for the newcomers. Megan's my new favorite, at least until we get some of these vets back -- and maybe even afterward! I'm a huge fan of James, Sausage, and Sarah in particular and originally I thought the show might be rigged to hand a victory over to a veteran who was semi-robbed in their season, but the new format -- and the strength of the rookie competition -- definitely puts that into question for me. Between Sarah and Megan, though, this is probably the best chance we've ever had to see a woman win.
  6. Of all the couples that have competed on this show, it seems like the rate of who's still together is about 50% (including several that would surprise you on either side!). I think most of those are down to outside factors, but I do think the show accelerated the breakup in more than a few instances.
  7. I love Varner more than anybody (which I would guess is evident from my fairly bitter recap) but I can definitely see this from Tasha's point of view. It's clear that Varner's playing the game hard, and that he's hoping to reconnect with former tribemates later on. Regardless of whether or not he is the primary instigator of drama, someone like that isn't someone you can control. Abi-Maria is volatile, but she can be manipulated in the short term. Now that Varner's gone, they can easily scoop up Woo (with whom Tasha has a previous connection, and who has been so blindly loyal in the past that he torpedoed his own game the first time out to take his alliance partner to the end instead of a definite goat) and jettison Abi. The only tricky thing here is keeping Abi mollified until the next Tribal Council, and also they need to hope things don't go back to two tribes next week, because Abi can dodge bullets more easily when there are more attractive targets. Tasha really impressed me this week with her ability to keep Abi in line. I think she's one to watch.
  8. Responding to something way upthread: Josh Wigler has never played Survivor, this is true, but he is, for my money, the best Survivor writer currently working. If you're not reading his coverage for Parade, you're missing out on someone whose love for the show is both apparent and contagious, and whose intuition about the game (not to mention trivia knowledge) is excellent. (Of course, you should be reading mine as well, but since you're already here, I'm going to assume that you already did, therefore going now to read Wigler's writing isn't taking pageviews away from Previously's also-stellar coverage.)
  9. Confirmed, James Earl is named after relatives. Resemblances to Carter, Jones, and Ray are coincidental.
  10. Production rarely dresses the racers. They're given a color ahead of time and encouraged to get gear to coordinate, and everything they pack has to be approved, but their clothes are their own. Survivor occasionally gives them clothes and makes them wear them (for instance, Cochran says that wasn't his sweater vest, and Chris Daugherty said they cut the sleeves off of one of his shirts to make his tank top) but I've never heard of an Amazing Racer being told to wear something they hadn't picked out for themselves. I believe Jin Lao has some affinity for Chinese culture given all his Jet Li references in his bio, which probably explains the jacket. But I am 99% certain that those clothes are entirely theirs and aren't an inaccurate picture of how they'd normally dress.
  11. I think I'm in the minority here when I say that I find Chris's strategy totally fascinating. The show's gone from "remember it's on my DVR on, like, Saturday afternoon" to "must watch live" in just a couple of episodes. I think the producers had a pretty clear idea of where the season was going to go and who was going to get eliminated when, and Chris has come in playing a totally different game and is starting to screw that up. Personally, I love it when a savvy reality contestant breaks the game. And I don't think he's going to win -- I think he's being set up for a huge fall, which is yet another reason to keep tuning in.
  12. It was super fun times trying to figure out how to spell "bougie" for the recap. (I went with "bougey" but Tara deferred to Urban Dictionary.)
  13. Someone caught the reference! That makes it all worthwhile.
  14. Well, I'm not soliciting dirt from current racers, so I can't corroborate anything that's been reported, but at least the part about not everyone being able to stand Hayley after the Race is demonstrably untrue if you check out any of their social media. She and Jeff hosted a viewing party this week (they live fairly close to one another) and she seems to be in regular contact with many of her castmates. I have no doubt that she can be irritating, but I also know that the editors don't do anybody any favors.
