  1. This is from memory so sorry if it's not 100% correct but: Lydia Quigley: Love is strongest when it's cruel. Best line of both seasons IMO, knocked me back.
  2. And this, Lucy, is why you don't start getting a crush on the evil bad boy frat brother just because he gave you the best sex of your teenaged life. Before you know it he has you playing with knives, doing drugs, and confessing all your secrets which he'll probably tell all over campus. All their parts were like an 18th Century cautionary Lifetime movie -- something along the lines of "Mother, May I Sleep with (Lord) Murder?" I feel so bad for her, she's probably all of seventeen and he's what? In his late twenties or early thirties? He's a twisted monster with all sorts of class and race superiority issues (when he was talking about the Spartans killing Helots because of the latter's inferior blood, he was chilling because you could see that he 100% believed that shit is how the world should be). He's the sort of man that no matter what era he lives in, will always be on the evil and wrong side of history. The way Liddington talked to Fanny and how Blayne talks to and treats Isabella is absolutely appalling. All these noble men are total overflowing trashcans and someone needs to take the trash out.
  3. I rewatched episode 1 of season 2 and just noticed something for the first time. When Lord Fallon goes to Greek Street and picks up Kitty, Liddington is there handling the horses and pretending to be his coachman. It was Liddington's button that was found in Kitty's hair. So did they kill her together or was it Fallon or Liddington acting alone?
  4. I thought Fallon was chastising Liddington for his inept work at trying to scare Margaret and her girls with that bloody heart at the front door theatrics. And then I thought Fallon killed Kitty to finish the job of scaring Margaret that Liddington wasn't able to accomplish. Let me know if upon rewatch, you find out for sure.
  5. I don't think Charlotte is Lady Fitz's child, but I don't even have a guess as to who is. I think Justice Hunt starting to kind of care about harlots and how a woman ends up a harlot, as well as Margaret and the others denouncing him for not doing much to find Kitty's killer, might be some foreshadowing that when he finds out Fallon murdered Kitty he will do his utmost to send him to the gallows -- and probably Quigley will contribute to that in some way to save her own hide (like turning state's witness or something). The actor who plays Fallon said he "loved this job" past tense so yeah, unfortunately, I don't think Fallon will be making it past S2. Of course that would be exactly what he deserves but I hope they don't try to pull some Lucy sad and crying at his execution scene (or pls no even worse she's pregnant with his hellspawn). It'd be a pity because I think the character is super interesting and a fun evil character to love to hate and the actor is terrific, but as we saw with Kitty Carter this show pulls no punches when it comes to killing off interesting popular characters (yes, I'm still bummed they did that).
  6. It's interesting how his wig has changed from season 1 haha. It's a more natural hair color (although why he opted for a pale blond one instead of one closer to his actual hair color...?) and not as bumped up high and less powdered. Funny how close-cropped his natural hair is...weren't the wigs back then super itchy so the men kept their hair very short? Also, he doesn't rouge and powder up his face as much as the other men, it seems. As always the hair and costuming department on this show knocks it out of the park and are, I think, reflecting some of the changing fashion and style from the first season to this one -- more natural colored wigs, less powder, jewel tones (except Quigley and her girls are still clinging onto the pastel palette in their clothing). I didn't like Lucy's hairstyle when they went to that evening gathering, it looked like a precariously tilted croquembouche. She was very pretty the day after the party though in her half pinned back hairstyle. Why is it that when Charlotte wears a patch she looks utterly charming but when one of the aristocratic males do, they look silly? Oh right because Charlotte is stunning and can carry off anything. I don't need 10 seasons of that other Hulu show, I need at least 10 seasons of this one.
  7. I guess maybe he enjoys all sides and facets of her and who she was and is now, which would indicate that he's the perfect guy for her since he accepts and likes all of her...but nah, he's a serial killer so a very bad option for Lucy. Their relationship is fascinating, especially how the balance of emotional power between them is unclear and seems to swing back and forth from moment to moment, but I really hope it doesn't turn out romantic.
  8. Did Fallon plant Liddington's button in Kitty's hair? Because I always thought that was surprisingly sloppy for Fallon to leave his button on her body and he seems smarter and more careful than that. Or do all the Spartans have those buttons as some sign of their membership in the Virgin Hunt Club (shudder)? Now it's been pretty much confirmed that the Marquess of Blayne is the leader or at least high up in VHC with the way he was talking to Fallon, never seen the latter so deferential to anyone before. Speaking of, the Marquess can go choke on a glass of port for treating Charlotte that way, manhandling her out of the card room, and then taking his anger out on her. Also, he was such an asshole for making Liddington flirt with Lucy to get a rise out of Fallon. Yes, Fallon is a serial killer with crazy eyes, but the Marquess seems way more dangerous and creepy to me, his manipulations, be they large or small, are just very cold and twisted (I feel sorry for poor Lady Fitz). I feel like I say this after every episode but...I'm very worried for Lucy. Quigley's surprised girlish laughter and expression after the Chief Justice said he preferred her was completely adorable. She's evil but she's my favorite. Every episode always seems far too short and I just want to spend more time with these characters, they're all fascinating and so entertaining even down to the smallest roles. Best line of the episode: "Pretty little fuckpuppet." (Emily Lacey is the best.)
  9. I think despite how bawdy and rollicking the tone of this show is, it can be much subtler and just as grim as THT. I also think some of the actors are better and make much more interesting acting choices (or perhaps are given better direction, I'm not sure). Two particular instances stand out in my mind from the double episode premiere and I think they're from two of the strongest actors & characters on the show -- Lydia Quigley and Lord Fallon. Loved the interesting upward twitch/tic of her right eye when she said 'persuade them' to Lady Fitz who rebuffed her by saying the beau monde would never accept her -- it struck me as both threatening and a bit pleading. I laughed out loud when Lord Fallon drawled 'Persephone' and then followed up with a weird intensely awkward 'where have you been?' complete with creepily moony stare before seeming to snap instantly back into his Supremely Evil and Debauched Lord Fallonness with his indolently insincere 'I've been pining' and nasty smirk. Small moment but for a flash underneath all the wealth and haughtiness and fucked up murdering evil, he just struck me as a sad sack freaky loser with zero game whose best chat up line to Lucy of writing to her mother and offering excellent terms to be her keeper was basically the Georgian-era version of 'I showed you a pic of my dick, plz respond' on Tinder. ETA: And if I'm not mistaken the majority (if not all) of the writers, directors, and the showrunners of this show are women and I think it shows in the quality of the product -- dialogue is smart and snappy, great writing, great directing, great world-building, and for the most part the internal logic of the show and the characters usually holds together.
  10. I think she might've had bigger fish to fry. The actress is in the new Mamma Mia! film.
  11. I am very worried for Lucy. She's playing a dangerous game...with a serial killer. This show is so engrossing and I'm impressed at how it juggles such a large cast but gives enough time to everyone's stories interweaving it into such a fascinating tapestry. Definitely my show of the summer.
  12. It's back and looks better than ever. Spoilery trailer for S2, I can't wait!
  13. My gf and I want to do a rewatch of SYTYCD's best routines from past seasons in preparation for the premiere of S14 (can you tell that we're excited to have this show back after that kids season that we didn't watch?). Please rec your favorite routines, especially if you feel they are under-appreciated/need more love and attention!
  14. I'm very happy and excited about the list of All-Stars (and I am not really a fan of All-Stars and keep wishing to return to how it was before). Comfort, Cyrus, Jasmine, Marko, and Paul were favorites of mine in their original seasons.
  15. Oh, I took that as it was possibly removed by the coroner for examination and the cops brought it in and showed it to him as a shock tactic? IDK that whole bit was very odd and at first I thought he said vagina when he meant uterus because he compared it to looking like a heart wrapped up in paper, but I really don't know because it was so weird. I'm not discounting his story because cops back then probably used all kinds of tactics that were messed up, the whole thing is just very strange.
  16. I'm afraid to ask but...there was sexual mutilation to Sister Cathy's body? When did they say that in the documentary? It is a distinct possibility that I missed it because after a while all the sexual abuse that was uncovered kind of all melted together into one monolith of horrifying fucked-upness that I was like oh my god what next? How much more depraved can Maskell and his ilk get? It's like a dark bottomless pit of monstrosity to the point where he and the other men involved seemed so incredibly evil as to not even be human (although it can be argued that humans are the greatest evil so maybe they seemed all too human at the basest level). I do have to say that throughout the documentary, while I was riveted and horrified by the possibility that Sister Cathy was murdered to silence her, I also kept wondering what if yes, she was trying to fight the abuse going on at the school and Maskell and others did want to shut her up but what if actually all this time her murderer was just some random sicko? I did have the feeling throughout watching the doc that this is a crime that can be solved and eventually will be solved.
  17. I don't like Luke and I don't want to watch him so I watched the episode while answering emails. Very lackluster episode and I'm annoyed that he's still alive. I guess it's maybe good for June (I'm not sure about this, actually, since Luke doesn't seem all that capable) so there's that. Best part of the episode was that they played Nothing's Gonna Hurt You Baby by Cigarettes After Sex.
  18. Why is the Catholic Church and its population of priests such a hotbed for pedophiles? Does its culture create pedophiles or are pedophiles attracted to it because of the power over and opportunities to interact with children, or a combination of both? How can anyone still believe in Catholicism when it is abundantly clear that the Catholic Church has no goodwill or love towards its laity and no compunction in doing them grievous lifelong harm and have the utmost contempt for the people it is supposed to be serving?
  19. Brooke is still here and Floyd is gone. Officially worst season of TAR in a very long time. I hate how the teams have to come to expect help from each other and get so mad when they don't get that help. Just fucking race, you babies. This, along with Brooke, is ruining this season. I was so annoyed with London shrieking for Floyd to help her when he was barely managing to stay upright himself. I guess I hope Redmond and Matt win even though Redmond comes across as a jerk and his jokes about his prosthetic leg gain him *crickets* in my household every time. They've probably been the best team this season if we count pure racing.
  20. In uni I had a close friend originally from upstate NY and he used to always be in his shirt sleeves on what was pretty cold days to everyone else. He said where he grew up, anything above 30 degrees Fahrenheit was considered "warm weather," which surprised me. I wonder if Riverdale is supposed to be in that area of the United States and trying for verisimilitude, the actors are dressed inappropriately for the weather on purpose (because let's be real, they're all dressed as if they live in L.A., although I guess the show is filmed in Vancouver or something?)
  21. She's beautiful, just wow. Who wouldn't fall in love with her after staring into those big blue eyes? Talk about eyes you can drown in. Haha now she's got me spouting cliches. There are those of us who are nuts about Cole Sprouse, and then there are those of us who are a bit jealous of him because the guy seems to have landed the best new job of the year (and I'm guessing that since he was a Disney star he doesn't even need the money!). I think Betty's my favorite character as well. I came into the show expecting that I was going to like Veronica more (and I do like Veronica), but I think I joined Team Betty from just about the first moment she appeared. There's just something about her that makes it totally understandable why Jughead adores her and why Archie can't seem to completely let her go (even though he claimed in the first episode that he didn't love her in that way).
  22. My gf has been making comments all season that he looks like a young Leonardo DiCaprio circa Titanic era. I have noticed that Cole Sprouse and Leo have very similar-sounding voices, at least to my ears.
  23. I like the aesthetic and look of the show too -- it reminds me of Edward Hopper's art, specifically Nighthawks, mixed in with the throwback '80s chic of "Drive." I wonder if that may actually be the production designers' intent/inspiration. I had to FF through Archie's musical performance. He's not a terrible singer, I've heard much worse, but the musical montages just don't work for me. I hope Josie & the Pussycats are more integrated into the show next season instead of just showing up for the musical montages and usually to be Archie's backing band. I don't think I'm in the demographics that Cole Sprouse is appealing to, but I certainly see why so many people (my gf included) are gaga over him. I know nothing about the Disney show he was on, but he's definitely got the brooding yet vulnerable James Dean-ish (ok, maybe James Dean-lite at this point, so young Johnny Depp or Matt Dillon?) thing working for him. He and the actress who plays Betty have a really solid and nostalgic chemistry that reminds me of Diane Lane/Matt Dillon in films like The Outsiders or Rumble Fish. I never care much about "ships" in shows aimed at teen audiences (I'm guessing teens and maybe early 20s are what most shows on the CW are geared to? I don't know, I don't watch CW shows except for this one), mostly because they seem to switch romantic configurations and partners around so much, but Betty/Jughead spark -- probably because of the actors since I think the show's writers have given them some corny lines throughout the season but they manage to carry them off. I do hope that Archie was being sincere and telling the truth when he told Veronica that he looked at Betty & Jughead longingly because he wants that with Veronica, and not because he has romantic feelings for Betty. I still remember the -- was it? -- first episode when he made Betty cry after he told her that he loved her as a friend and doesn't have romantic feelings for her. Dude, sit down, shut up, stay away from Betty except in a friends capacity, and be happy with Veronica who is way better than you deserve. I actually like Archie but his grass-is-greener mentality when it comes to the young women he's lucky to have in his life is annoying. Archie and Veronica are good together, he has the most chemistry with her, so I hope there's not too much Archie/Betty in the future because I have a feeling they would be deadly boring together although they make good friends. Archie/Betty come across too siblings-ish for my taste, more so than Cheryl and her odd relationship with Jason. Fred better not be dead. My gf and I started watching this show not for the teens but for the stellar collection of actors that we remember were the hot young things back in the '90s -- Luke Perry, Madchen Amick, Marisol Nichols, Skeet Ulrich.
  24. While I like Lucy as a character, I find what you mentioned to be her most unpleasant character trait. She's a bratty teenager, sure, and she's been spoiled by her mother, but it does bug me that she doesn't seem to have any sense and is very ungrateful. Like it doesn't occur to her that she's been living there because of her mother and basically at the charity of the harlots like Kitty that she's mouthing off to (I love how Kitty told Margaret that Lucy gave her a mouthful of "vexatious language" -- great line delivery there by the actress and just a very fun and funny line) and saying that's it's her house (girl please). If anyone is living there as a leech, it's Lucy especially now that she can take clients and won't and Margaret doesn't make her. I think the Spartans rely on Cunliffe to procure them the girls and they probably don't know and/or don't care to know how he's going about it and that he's brought in Lady Quigley to him help get girls. I bet they don't go and pick up girls themselves because that's beneath them, they have sniveling yes-men to do such tacky things for them like Cunliffe, and also plausible deniability. Not that lords would ever be hanged for killing harlots but it might look unsavory so they roped in Cunliffe in case things go to hell and what they've been doing is revealed, he'd be a convenient scapegoat to blame all of it on -- it would look great splashed across the papers "Upholder of the law by day, murderer of harlots by night."
  25. I feel like the murder of Sir George (I'm actually almost sad to see him gone because he's a character I love to hate and the actor imo is terrific) has sealed Lucy's fate in terms of having to accept Lord Fallon as her keeper. Only someone like him, with his money and title, might be able to protect her and possibly Margaret + the brothel. It seems that Margaret wouldn't have forced Lucy to accept Lord Fallon, but now they may have no choice. I still like Lucy as a character, I feel sorry for her, and I'm worried about what awaits her. I actually thought the person she was going to kill this season was Lord Fallon, but the turn of events has made George's death a very likely catalyst for Lucy's fate. I don't think it's going to be a very nice fate at all, and while it could be seen as karma for attempted murder, I think she just panicked in the moment when George was pawing at her again, especially given that she's just gotten the horrible news that he's to be her keeper (it's like hmmm Lord Fallon or Sir George, maybe the gallows would be the best option?) because there's a history of him raping her and being completely vile to her.
