  1. I think they also showed that black men as political force weren't supportive of poc women's issues either. While you'd think they witnessed them firsthand, not to mention being part of the problem. Which is how it happened IRL with Shirley.
  2. It seemed to me like sending Scarecrow into that hole was what brought the robots out of hybernation. If so, Scarecrow only helped somewhat mitigate the problem that saving him created in a first place. Then the guy basically sacrificed his life to save some robot which put everyone into the mortal danger. Way to go. On that note, I liked the actor who played Adler much more than Posey, I wish they would hire him to play Dr. Smith. In any case, it's good that the show has balls to kill off someone, but I had really hard time following his motivation. I can't see Adler's children taking this story very well (realistically speaking). "Well, your father wanted to come back to you very much. But he felt that saving a robot to please another robot was much more important. I know it seems weird and confusing to you but he totally redeemed himself with that. He also kinda sent an army of hostile robots after us, that's why we don't have all these supplies that we were supposed to bring. But his heart was in a good place".
  3. His head is too big for his shoulders. Also makes his arms look puny. I realize that it's more realistic this way but he would look better in a suit, would make his shoulders look less narrow. His face also does nothing for me but this thing I find just distracting. I also don't get what Wendy is so embarrassed about. I can see how it could hurt Chuck, because he's a politician and needs to appeal to broad demo, but that a woman does some kinky stuff with her husband wouldn't shock anyone I know, and I live in much more conservative country than NY part of America. Some people around me openly discuss their kinks and it receives a chuckle at worst. BDSM is very mainstream nowadays.
  4. That's probably correct (he's not supposed to die from hunger, afterall), but in this case, he's not going to be thinking about Grace or anyone, right? And if he's out of it in stasis chamber- and stays this way forever - he might as well be dead. It's like putting someone to permanent sleep - basically same as death, which isn't called eternal sleep for nothing. A permanent coma of sorts. At best they are leaving him to be other people's problems when he wakes up.
  5. What a pathetic loser this Tim Shaw creature is - 3000 years and two of the most powerful beings in existance at his full disposal, and yet he failed to destroy one insipid planet like Earth. For 3000 years! "Not killing" is nice and all, but if they simply locked up this Shaw thing in this cell (I was deathly bored so might have missed something), isn't it infinitely more cruel? I don't know about these species, but humans can go insane in solitary confinement, especially one that long, without any movement or variety. Personally, I imagine someone finding Tim Shaw a hundred years later, insane and drooling, and putting him out of his misery, while wondering what sort of monster had done it to him. And he probably deserves to go insane, if only for his stupidity, but let's not pretend torturing someone into madness is any more ethical that shooting them. I guess someone might come soon and grab him? Or?... None of that was well explained.
  6. I personally think that the young guy has personality of whiny bitch. I have somewhat similar problems and you don't see me throwing expensive bikes over the hill (which could hurt someone btw). If you really want to ride a bike, work at it, without wasting time of two grown people who, among other things, are of no use in this whatsoever. I know a guy with mild cerebral palsy who learned to ride bike as a kid, on his own. If you don't have particular need, say "screw it" and find better way to spend your time - that's hardly a tragedy. There are plenty of jobs where this is barely an inconvenience. Then he also whines about his nan (!) finding herself a second husband - at first I thought it was his step-father, which would be somewhat understandable, dead father, still raw, but damn, he could try to be happy for his grandmother who found some happiness in her not-so-young age, especially since the "intruder" is mellow super nice pushover who might soon die from returned cancer. The girl is non-entity so far. I want to like her but she's given nothing to do. The "obligatory white guy" is the only one with any personality. Which isn't that deep either. JW is as bland and boring to me as I expected based on Broadchurch. I remember watching her in this and feeling nothing, despite the role perfectly suited for evoking emotions (and certainly not because I wanted grieving mother to be played by a guy, or something). For me I wish they would find older charismatic actress like Michelle Gomez. She's clearly trying - to me it looks like she's doing her best cosplaying David Tennant's Doctor, I keep seeing him (and I wasn't crazy about him either, though he's no doubt has more charisma) when she talks and moves. She's not my main problem, though, I guess I just got too old for this show. If the story was smart and impressive I'd be fine with slightly bland Doctor. For the most part all I could think of was "It is all so stupid". Stupid robots, who can't shoot worth shit but can climb down shafts for whatever reason, stupid pieces of fabric that for some reason are given ability to talk, and sure take their time killing enemies, stupid Doctor who is burning the very air above herself and others - if that's brain give me guns any time, they should have died chocking on hot air, stupid game master and stupid players, who apparently could intimidate him so easily all this time! Back then they at least had starships... And on top of that, apart from few pretty outdoor shots (I plan desert trip in Morocco so that was fun to see) it all looked like some film student project, and that's being generous. So that's almost good that there is no lead actor/actress interesting enough to keep me watching this. Maybe one day Chibnall does something "brainy" and the show will get good showrunner.
  7. I think Dark does it much more elegantly. They take only one fantastic element, and weave increadibly complex story out of it. Here we have everything and kitchen sink thrown in.
  8. I don't find Leo particularly interesting and I feel like I missed something with regards to his physiology. He nearly died as a child so his dad used synth parts to keep him alive. Hester stabbed him and he nearly died again and spent a year in a coma. When and how did his synth parts get removed? Mattie keeps talking about how he's human now so I think I assumed his synth parts were removed. Thanks! They probably are removed, I just don't get it either, how it worked out exactly. I wasn't very clear on "original" Leo... I just want someone to do something smart or unexpected or fun at this point, because right now we only have humans ruthlessly mistreating synths and synths occasionally doing something moronic which threatens whatever little success their defenders achieved. That's it. If they wanted straight-up allegory about immigrants or minorities or whatever, maybe make the show about exactly that, because there would be interesting nuances from just reality dictating it. I mean, sure, it was always part of the story, but if you're not going for any original angle with minorities being androids, why even pretend it's about it. This is all very black and white right now.
  9. How is that possible for him to be full human? Maybe someone can spell it out for me, because I don't get the plotline. I wanted Laura to be like "Oh, but we can't let this old guy go now anyway, thanks to you moronic assholes, because he will tell police about everything he's seen and create another synth media scandal threatening all my hard work. Off him! What do you mean you don't plan on killing anyone?"
  10. Why they would have suspicions of David is perhaps understandable, but why would they trust Farouk, who clearly has vested interest in undermining David, is increadibly powerful and manipulative (i.e. can stage a lot of things for his interests) is not even remotely so. Why wouldn't they suspect that this is all an elaborate plan of Farouk's, who among other things can manipulate minds and take over bodies? In fact, after seeing SK walking around, David is very justified in believing that others are somehow under his evil influence. Withouth him there, free, David might have been more open to listening to his "friends", especially if they didn't gang up on him. Even if we take for granted that he's done something awful (mind-wiping Syd was obviously very troublesome moment), the fate of the world is at stake, so perhaps it's more important to turn David to your side gently than to accuse him. Get your priorities straight. Wiping Syd's memory is certainly one of those steps in very dangerous direction, but he removed something that made her try to kill him, that's self-defence. After she tried to murder him for no real crime, he would be even justified in killing her in self-defence, let alone removing some trace of Farouk's influence. Her turn about was so sudden, he could understandably conclude that she's suffering from some Farouk's induced delusion or temporary insanity. I am not at all convinced that David is a "good" guy (whatever that even means), a person with such powers can be terrifying being just for existing, perhaps he even should be annihilated for everyone's sake in a move of tragic necessity, there is potentially interesting story there, but the way it was realized didn't work for me at all, unnecessarily convoluted and unconvincing to the point where everyone now looks like bizarre cretin - i.e. no matter what you think of David, Farouk is also super-powerful and known sadistic mass murderer - why would you let him go? Characterization also isn't their strong suit, e.g. Syd's jump from one-note David's obsessed devotee to being ready to kill him wasn't remotely convincing. Opening scene was beautiful! Maybe one day they'll use this cinematic grandeur on some show that makes sense. Say, let's do Zelazny's Isle of Dead! Love actor who plays Farouk, btw, him and Lenny are the best part of the show, maybe they should kill everyone else and become the stars))
  11. I can deal with violence and gore and horror (especially here, where they mean little), but I want to understand them, and I want other characters to care, or why should I? E.g., I could deal with Dolores being ruthlessly cruel to humans, they dehumanized her and she dehumanizes them. It's not "right" but it makes thematic sense. But she also doesn't care about needlessly killing hundreds of other androids, all of them potentially "woke" AIs. So what's her problem with humans then? Again, it would make sense if she grew to see "non-woke" androids as lesser than she is (and they probably are!). It's hardly avoidable and interesting moral dilemme. But there is no dilemma here, "rebels" just kill tons of other androids without second thought. In the first season, it was tragic when humans destroyed awoken hosts. In this season awoken hosts don't seem to care either. Dolores is supposed to be problematic, but why is she such a cypher? Maybe, if we understood her plan, we could consider the price of it, if it's worth all the death, but we don't. Maeve is supposed to be "good-ish", I think, but really, she feels sorry for one host like herself, and makes others kill each other in droves, when she supposedly could just tell them to freeze, or go sit under the tree. All of these nameless samurai are potential AIs! They could gain self-awareness if Maeve didn't make them kill each other. Who knows, maybe two dudes she forced to slice each other have backstory where they are brothers or best friends. But we for some reason aren't supposed to care about that. What ARE we supposed to care about? Sometimes they show us humans kill droids needlessly, and that's still supposed to be bad somehow, I think. But really, it's free-for-all at this point. At least it makes sense when humans don't realize gravity of it, not the same with hosts.
  12. About dead hosts: One thing is, "dead" is a relative term for hosts. You could technically take their brain out, build new dolly for it, put empty brain inside "dead" host, through the body in the water. You can have, say, dead body of Dolores and Dolores walking around in man's body, for instance. Or just make another body that looks like Dolores (or Teddy) with empty brain, put a bullet in it and it seems like you've killed them. I am not assuming anything yet) Trailer for season 2 made me think that modern clothing Dolores:
  13. But you do get snuffed out or at least get carved up seriously, you just come back in another body because, like another prosititute said, if Bancroft overdid the damage, he would buy another sleeve for the prostitute. People who do not have serious mental/personality problems do not enjoy torturing and strangling women, so if Lizzie doesn't see that he's a horrible candidate for a father she's at the level of stupid where I don't think she should be having children. And Bancroft, who beat the shit out of his own son, certainly shouldn't. If Bancroft is Lizzie's only customer, how come he wouldn't get her a place and give her money so she doesn't have to work in a brothel? He probably tips more than he would have to spend on it, he's trillionaire! Obviously he doesn't give a shit about her to even hire her as his personal whore, so what made Lizzie think he'd want a child with her? Where did she get sample of his bio material to make paternity test in uthero? Did she keep some of his sperm, just in case. Ok, I guess that's possible, but it's pretty bizarre. So why the frak wouldn't Vernon, who presumably gets paid for military service, sends his own daughter enough money that she doesn't have to work as a whore-for-torture? Or does this bizarre creature simply enjoys doing it? I don't buy that functioning socipath who for 200+ years was top dog in ruthless world, at the top of ruthless business, would be broken so easily - over prositute he doesn't know, no less. A man this sensitive would be eaten alive even in modern big business. And he doesn't even have to do anything - his lawyers would do all the talking. He only needs to keep his mouth shut in front of authorities, you'd think it would work on automatic level for him. But... why?! Why would it be more likely? Especially since as we could see very clearly, NOT destroying her stack was exactly what got Miriam caught in the end! But why would a person of Miriam's power and influence not have means to destroy both the body and the stack, leaving only ashes? Sure, torture Lizzie for fun beforehand... and then destroy her fucking stack, you complete moron! No body, no stack, no evidence, no proof... Worst of all, we're supposed to think that the world is fucked, because these amoral meths have sooo much power and influence, but as we can see in the end, they are not, they are easier to bring down than modern millionaires, and more emotional and easier to guild-trip, to boot. So what drugs was that Quell person on? But this of course is very stupid and reductionist theory. Does anyone really think, that if Ser Terry Pratchett got to live for 100 more years, he's start strangling prositutes and raping kiddies, instead of writing more wonderful stories? Fuck Quell. But... why? Why wouldn't 99,9% of murderers be able to do that? What sort of super lazy fuck doesn't take 15 minutes to hack into somebody's neck and destroy the stack that would put them on ice? But by comparing body sleeve murder and stack-murder you bring up another interesting issue that wasn't again addressed. How come these Neo-C people don't have any visible marking? I think that sleeve-murder is considered "extreme sleeve damage" and naturally less bad than destroying somebody's stack. So if somebody damages your sleeve, murdering you (like gutting you with a knife for example), but doesn't know that you're Neo-C, what do you try this person for? They weren't trying to kill you, they "just" damaged your sleeve, which while bad isn't that big of a deal it seems. How come anyone would buy that snuffle whore from brothel wouldn't have this visible marking etc...
  14. Yes, but this is a very stupid thing to do. I remember having too strong reaction to space cake in Amsterdam, but at least I had presense of mind to take them near my hotel and to get back as soon as I started feeling the effects. I would expect better from a super spy-agent-whatever who's most important characteristic is precisely being able to adapt very fast to both new body and whatever new world he's getting dropped into. With this guy, if I sent him on spy mission to different planet, I'd expect to find him in an alley somewhere wriggling, overdosed on local equivalent of coke and robbed by pickpockets. And with tracking equipment installed on him by local authorities, too. Definitely no missions to Holland, Belgium or Cali for this one!
  15. I thought this convo was a little sexist TBH (and also cliched). Would they have it if Ortega was a guy? "My partner Jack here is very impressionable and hurts easily. I will hold you completely responsible for his well-being, dude, even though you barely know him, and he had been stalking you. If you ever break his heart, dude, I am gonna kill you". No, no they wouldn't.
