  1. That’s a good idea. The absolute worst thing to do is what I did while watching Handmaid’s Tale—watched and read at the same time. Now I honestly can’t remember which parts were in the book and which were in the show!
  2. I love your wording. It would seem that in the initial drafts of the scripts the writers use similar wording and then fill in later with science-y mumbo jumbo.
  3. I read the first book about a year and a half ago. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but wasn’t overly enamored with it. Definitely not enough to pick up the second book. So I looked up the plot summaries for the other books online and, let’s just say, I though they were weird. (Unpopular opinion, I know). End of story. Now I’m watching the show, though, and am enjoyinging them thoroughly. I’m also around avid readers of the books. So my question is, should I pick the books back up knowing what I do know—both good and bad—and if so which books should I read? Or should I leave well enough alone and enjoy the show? :-)
  4. Adding to the genetics discussion, my husband is blond and I am a brunette. Three of my four children were born with (and still have) very red hair. One of the first things the nurses in the delivery room said was, "Where does the red hair come from?" And it kept being asked the entire time we were in the hospital (and ever since). As someone upthread said, it's a recessive gene and both parents have to carry it but not necessarily exhibit it. So if Claire didn't carry the gene for red hair, she and Jamie couldn't have had a red headed child no matter how red his hair was. Anyway, as the saying goes, if I had a dollar for every time I've been asked, "Where does that red hair come from?" in regard to my children, I'd be a rich woman.
  5. Can anyone file me in on whatever happened to the bot thing in Sarah's cheek? I thought Ferdinand said Susan was going to be the one to get it out, but I don't remember anything ever happening to it. Is that another one of the many things I just don't remember?
  6. So I have multiple questions. I know I should just let them go but maybe, just maybe there's a logical explanation: 1). Did Katherine have to be IN hell when the hell fire bounced back on itself or standing in the path of the hell fire? Either way, why did Stefan or Damon have to die with her? Couldn't they have stabbed her right as the fire was coming and left her either in hell or unconscious in its path? Out of all the mcguffins/deux ex machina/random miracles they've pulled out over the years, was this just as excuse to really kill Stefan? 2). Was hell destroyed? What about the people there like poor Georgie? Are we to assume the people we like got out when the bell started ringing but everyone else went poof? 3. So the Other Side was destroyed but the peaceful afterlife was there all along for people that found peace (Grams, Lexi, etc) and those who sneaked out of hell? Did the Other Side people make it to heaven? Where are Anna and Pearl? 4. Did Stefan and Damon really achieve redemption or just slipped out of hell before it imploded? 5.So poor Caroline may never see her loved ones again? Can Bonnie merge poor lonely Enzo's afterlife with the Mystic Falls after party? 6. Seline and Sybil went up in flames, right? It seems like no one ever really dies for real. What about good old Silas. How good do you have to be to achieve "peace"? Hopefully not the inverse of hell's bad because that bar was super low. And hopefully not just someone we know and like. As a devout Presbyterian I'm glad I'm spending so much time contemplating an afterlife full of eternally beautiful people in an idyllic little town full of former witcches and vampires. ? Maybe another viewing will clear all this up and it will all make sense! :-)
  7. My 13 year old who doesn't watch the show was in the room while I watched this episode. She kept asking me to explain what was going on. I was actually embarrassed as the words kept coming out of my mouth because I knew how ridiculous the plot was. My husband then said , "This is your favorite show? I thought it was scary." I had to say that it wasn't my favorite show any more and it hadn't been scary since the first season or so. I said that I was just really loyal and determined to see it through. The positive thing was that everyone on the show was beautiful and you got to spend an hour looking at gorgeous people whether the plot made sense or not. Several things: - I assumed Damon swooped whichever siren it was out of the mansion because he didn't want her to read his thoughts about that gadget thing he found in Matt's dad's garage. We haven't heard anything else about that have we? - All we've ever heard about Stefan's ripper days is that he and others have referred to him as the Ripper of Monterrey and now that they show it to us, it's only a handful of people and he doesn't even remember it! I expected the carnage to look like the outdoor hospital scene in Gone With the Wind. I know they dont have that budget, but still. And how can he not remember something that someone brings up EVERY season!! - Cade basically said it was Stefan's fault that Elena got pulled into all this supernatural crap. But she was a "doppelgänger", so she was going to be hunted by Klaus whether Stefan was there or not. - Damon. Have they forgotten that they were searching for Damon just a few months ago to save him? The person Damon is right now is directly related to him going in that vault last year. He volunteered to take the bullet on that one and this is where he landed. His humanity is off because that was the only way he could deal with stuff. (Yes, Enzo fought it, but that was truthfully a writing decision rather than a character decision in my opinion. Whatever.) Damon has always been a dick. Humanity on or off. But the gang, especially Alaric, murdered him without any regret or sadness or wishing they could save him. Just good riddance. Drives me crazy. Don't they all remember when they were not themselves and doing bad things? Guess not. They just killed him and then went on to dinner. What should we wear to the party? Don't they think about the Damon that is there with humanity turned on? Or maybe they secretly hated that guy, too. Caroline at least has always been honest about hating him (and for good reason). Something tells me that if someone killed humanity-off-Stefan everyone would be really sad because it wasn't his fault and he needed to be saved, not killed. At least this part of the writing is consistant. - Don't Alaric and Caroline realize that the twins are themselves supernatural and will attract other supernatural issues whether Caroline is there or not. Super Nanny wasn't there because of Caroline. Alaric has just as much connection to the gang. Having Caroline around provides an element of protection. I don't understand separating her from her kids except for "drama". On the positive side, the twins' dresses were super cute. I assume that was Caroline's doing. I think Dad Alaric is boring and a dick. Sorry for my negativity. It's just that I feel like I'm seeing shadows of my favorite characters. I do really like Enzo and Bonnie and their relationship, though. I didn't like him until he was with Bonnie. I love that he's a mature man and not young and that he values her so much. No offense Jeremy. I can't wait until the Originals come on. They still feel like themselves.
  8. So, poor Jay has been basically homeless and unemployed in a completely foreign land for six months? Maybe crashing at Star Labs every night and subsiding off of their surprisingly well stocked break room?
  9. Weighing in on Felicity's non-scientific wardrobe....In my former (i.e. younger) life, I was a software engineer who wore lots of cute short dresses and skirts and heels. Partly because I was young, partly because I was single with more disposable income. However, I still laugh every time Felicity makes an appearance with yet another never before seen cute dress. Go Felicity. If I were around the guys she's around all the time, I'd probably dress up, too. As an older person I'd definitely go for slacks and flats, though. Comfort above all!!! On another topic, as a tried and true Ed fan way back when, I'm loving Tom Cavanagh as Wells. I don't care if he's evil or not!
