  1. So said we all! (Battlestar Galactica reference?) Having heated homes with wood-burning stoves for 15-20 years in the rural Pacific Northwest, I was so confused by the pristine fireplace. So Margo burned an entire room-size rug in her f'in' fireplace?!? And she was going to do a little cleanup with a bottle of stuff that fit into her pocket? Don't get me started.🤬🤯🫠 Not familiar with that reference, but I think there is a Columbo episode I watched in the last year in which a body was disposed of similarly. Cool! From a branding and SEO (Search Engine Optimization) perspective, the writers have been (IMO) very smart and clever to repeatedly work her unique name into the early episodes in clever ways, especially since, as of this moment, Google is not suggesting "Elsbeth" when I search "Elspeth." And it was very intriguing to me that the killer in the previous episode (played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and the chief's wife in this episode both were the exception to the rule in that they made a point of pronouncing her name correctly — with the camera taking a beat on the killer's face in the last episode and on Elsbeth's face in this episode while they noticed. It's almost like her name is a litmus test.
  2. Thank you!! Now I feel smart again. That's what I said while looking at an incredibly large and close TV screen. And, yes, The Velveteen Rabbit was an instaget.
  3. In fairness, the baby was all he had left. Not to mention he was recovering from a head injury. I don’t fault him for what was obviously a shell shocked state of mind I’m left wondering if the writers edited out a line of the father’s to Price and Maroun of “she’s [the baby is] all I’ve got left of my wife” (because the baby had the DNA of the father and his wife). And, if they did edit out the line for time or triteness or whatever narrative reasons, did they assume that we viewers would assume the father felt that way (that the baby was all he had left of his wife)?? Similarly, we were not given any information as to the cognitive state of the father due to Traumatic Brain Injury other than a little memory loss. IRL, the father could have been no longer cognitively capable of being a parent, or even performing the work he had done previously. A psychiatrist for the prosecution could have told us that on the stand. Maybe the passing line by the new DA to go after the evil surrogate broker would include a penalty of millions in damages for the father??
  4. Same here: Week 31: 0/5 But I'm hungry, so I'll grab a bowl and join you.
  5. Wow. This gives value to the work of current gatherers of family genealogies. I wonder what the nature of the "poems" was.
  6. True, but at least we got these crumbs: [DETECTIVE] Computer crimes has been analyzing Eileen's devices. And when they were looking at her phone, it rang. [DIXON] Who was it? [DETECTIVE] Federal prosecutor. I called him, but I got the runaround. [DIXON] Those guys wouldn't tell you if your coat was on fire.
  7. They're both "adorable," but in very different ways (says the portrait artist).
  8. This all makes sense. However, additionally, Margaret admitted in this episode she was a little "jealous" of Susan, since Margaret was older when she made partner. I wondered too if Margaret is concerned that Todd may still be carrying a torch for Susan.
  9. Followed by "I'm drowning." For me, Sam wasn't caving into Alberta's requests; Sam was relating to her like any close girlfriend.… …although Sam was also being haunted by a ghost. Whenever Sam does the ghosts' bidding, it seems natural to me. It's what haunted people do. Right? I was more like Saul in my youth (clinging to my lovers) and am aware that's not typical, still I can't help imagine Isaac wanting to see more of the stripper. A few lines from Nigel seem to be hinting at a rift between him and Isaac. Maybe they will have a brief breakup during which Sam will agree to get the stripper back to cheer up Isaac. Then the ghosts might plot to kill the stripper at the Woodstone so he and Isaac could be together (which is so wrong on so many levels). After the shenanigans, Isaac and Nigel would get back together, having learned to accept each other for who they are. I think the stripper was maybe writing a dissertation on paleontology? I could not watch Jenkins' lap dance entirely. It was like when I used to squint my way through the autopsies on Bones.
  10. Margo was so catty with Elsbeth about her hair! [MARGO TO ELSBETH] We all do things to make ourselves more appealing, don't we? Or is that your natural color? No way! Although there was something a tiny bit off about the way Kaya remarked about the Leaning Tower of Pisa image on Elsbeth's window/monitor: [KAYA] So, just different every time? Huh? [ELSBETH] Oh, yeah. Depends on my mood. And I have a lot of moods. Elsbeth sharing with Kaya “And I have a lot of moods” was a bit odd. Maybe Elsbeth and Kaya are doing a little dance. It would make sense if Captain Wagner asked Kaya to keep an eye on Elsbeth to find out what she's up to. But if that's the case, I want them to decide to join forces to take down the real baddies, who will be someone other than the Captain. But I'm prepared to be disappointed too, and have Kaya and Elsbeth not be bffs. 😥 I loved the Captain's wife, Claudia, played by Gloria Reuben, but she seemed possibly sketchy too.
  11. I think the nicer, newer puffer coats are able to be warm without the bulk. My daughter had one with her on her way to Antarctica recently. It was a lovely apricot-orange color.
  12. This CNN article echoes all the other mentions I happened to inadvertently catch yesterday about OJ’s passing. None of the discussion I caught mentioned the likelihood of a pro footballer having TBI or CTE, which some of us considered here, upthread. For the sake of his children and any grandchildren, I hope they do a postmortem exam for such brain damage. But it would be best if any definitive conclusions as to the presence or absence of a brain injury be kept out of the media. So I’m fine with not knowing. ETA: I haven't researched this further, but a NY Times commenter posted:
  13. Thanks for this detailed explanation. Do you recall if the defense attorney sprung the objection to hammer in the middle of the courtroom proceedings? If so, that would explain why Price didn't present more convincing arguments to keep the hammer in. I thought it was handed to Price and Maroun in an envelope outside the courtroom, but I don't know whether that was moments before they were "called to order" or not. IDK. Price did point out to the judge: Right? It seems like that should have been good enough. Especially if the garbage can didn't have a lid, but I'm guessing in NYC, all indoor garbage containers have lids due to ubiquitous cockroaches, due to buildings being interconnected. So I guess opening a trash receptacle lid to see the hammer means it was not "in plane sight" at the crime scene.
  14. It was most likely the defense attorney's idea to bargain with the baby to get 5 years in prison for the defendant. — but which perhaps led to Maroun pointing out that the killer fled the scene to sell the baby to the highest bidder. If this were a novel where we could have access to the characters' inner thoughts, there could have been an explanation that the killer realized she was not fit to raise a child, and presumed both of the child's biological parents were now dead, so she went to the people who she'd been told wanted the baby. But the killer's lawyer could not bring that up because it would contribute to the prosecutors' point about her being able to think rationally. The point of the baby being all the widowed father had left of his wife needed to be strengthened by the father stating it in a tear-jerker moment, but I guess the writers nowadays think that's too chewing too much scenery or something? BTW, why didn't she smash in the husband/father's skully too? His complete recovery seemed to be mostly plot device. The killer's name was still on the lease as a roommate, so they needed to get her permission to look in the garbage can inside the apartment — which seems a little silly plot-wise.
  15. Yes. Friendly female deputy was perfect casting and writing. TPTB should seriously consider reworking the spinoff to include regular B plots that would be like a reboot of The Andy Griffith Show. Maybe lady cop and Connie become roommates raising Ceecee while Mandy's away at college and Georgie works with his father-in-law. That was odd. Other shows have had similar out-of-season seasonal plots due to the Writers Strike. Maybe this was supposed to air around Halloween? It could also be a demonstration of how Sheldon misunderstood a lot of what was going on in his childhood — which I think is par for the course for most folks IRL, but which has troubled a lot of viewers who do not want any deviation from TBBT canon.
  16. …and, also from S01.E04: “Love Knocked Off”… maybe a Hamptons purchase?
  17. Best lines of the series! Kudos to Lorre or whoever made 2 R's feel like the good guys to the D's watching. Give the responsible writers and directors (and maybe actors) a Peace Prize! Cece and Dale with the guitar was golden. ************* The negatives: I hated George holding a pain (albeit in his side) after he and Mary ran up the courthouse steps to Georgie and Mandy's wedding. If the situation in this show had happened in the 21st century, Cece would be in foster care right now. 🥺
  18. Speak of the devil, from tonight's episode, S01.E04: “Love Knocked Off,” I give you The Puffer Coat: Ooo! Another: Makes sense, knowing Elsbeth is from Peoria, where the winters are even more like Siberia (being further away from the moderating temperatures of the lake, which, even when frozen, is still a relatively balmy 32°F in comparison to say, a -32°F windchill).
  19. Episode description from DirectTV.com:
  20. Thanks for the info! So, not that. Daylight Savings Time had started just 2 days before the Regular game was taped. If the contestants want to blame that, I'm okay with it, I guess.
  21. Excellent point! And yet, at the time, there seemed to be at least a lot of self-questioning and even some positive reckoning regarding race and handling of evidence by police as a result of that circus, which might have not come out if the focus was on TBI — even if TBI was more to the point. I don't think we can definitively know if TBI was a factor unless arrangements were made to test his brain for TBI after death. I hope such arrangements were made, but I doubt it. My now-elderly cousin was on TV in LA reporting about the trial. She hasn't posted about his death on FB as of yet, but I'll be interested in what she has to say — if anything.
  22. Everything about the game (including FJ) makes me wonder if the players were not prepared in some way (even just psychologically) to play that day. If the JIT had gone to its maximum length, and assuming they are taping 5 games per day, the regular Jeopardy! game would have started the next day. Right? For FJ I could only say: A movie like Encanto that came out in 2017.
  23. They should all be suspended and enrolled in therapy. Right?
