  2. Also, was Yoyo supposed to be the #1 tennis player in the world with Hunter #2? Because I'm pretty sure that #2 can make an excellent living. And if he's not #2, what good is sabotaging #1? Just to give Hunter more confidence by beating #1?  He already beat him once. How long did that last?

    Blair Underwood has barely aged.

That cold open was hilarious. And it made me think of something I read post-Emmys when the Abbott cast and crew showed up the next day to film and someone supposedly yelled, "The Bear is not a comedy!"

I'm sure you're right. As long as The Bear is in the same category at the Emmys, Abbott is probably not going to win. And the female star of The Bear (who played Janine's younger sister in an Abbott episode last year) recently won the Best Supporting Actress Emmy while Quinta won Best Actress. Next year, they'll both be in the Best Actress category if they are nominated.

  4. Who played the ball girl? She was very good.

How do you pay someone for a comped ticket? What is Wagner supposed to do with the money? Did she just give him a check made out to the NYC Police Department? A wad of cash? Ask him for his personal Venmo account # ?

He got her back good by doing her son a big "favor". He must have been headhunted and hired in one day, which should have sounded suspicious to Elsbeth. She really needs to tell Teddy to quit, but without explaining why.

Ooo. I think the writers missed an opportunity for Alberta and Saul to do it on the kitchen counter while Jay was unwittingly having a midnight nosh.

But then other ghosts might have witnessed them.

Realistically, they could've worked it out where Jay was alone in the bedroom watching a TV show and Sam was elsewhere in the house, and then he'd have no idea that Alberta was in the room with the other ghost.

I prefer the idea of a couple of hours a day, maybe when Jay is on his laptop/phone (as we know, the only TV is in a public room.)

The ghosts are like children to Sam, and she is like their mother.
The ghosts have "lived" such sheltered lives, that in many ways they are childlike.

I believe Jay said that it was like living with 8 children.

I wonder if the show will last long enough that Sam and Jay actually have a child, who will then have multiple ghost aunts and uncles, but who will also eventually outgrow seeing them.  If the child discusses them in school, they will be dismissed as imaginary friends.  They could even passively "babysit" while Sam was elsewhere in the house, as one of them could fetch her if needed.

  8. I thought that Elsbeth was going to procure another cheap brass Cupid, break off the missing tip, and pretend that the fishermen found it (maybe tarnish it a bit), thereby provoking Margo to do something rash. It was not a given that the fishermen would have found the original.

The antique dealer that Margo bought the bronze Cupid from was a huge loose end.  Even if the fishermen hadn't found the original, once Margo showed Elsbeth the bronze, she would have surely thought to check back with him, as she had about the rug, which Margo knew she had done. Crazy to go to the local antiques deal.

I guess Margo was able to walk back from the bus station without being observed after leaving the victim's car there? How far was it? And there were no rug fibers or blood residue in the trunk? She could really burn that entire rug in her fireplace?  So many loose ends.

HUGE mistake in this episode. Sharon says her grandmother only subscribes to the paper to line her Cockatoo's bird cage. But at the end, he hands Nell a cage with a cockatiel in it.

How can I keep watching with glaring mistakes like this?!? 😏

I think I caught another mistake.  Tina said "top of the 9th", but don't softball games have only 7 innings?  (They were never tied.)

Alex and his grandma need help more than just Gregory and Janine.

It's obviously better for Alex to go back to school voluntarily, but I also thought they should have made his grandma understand that they were going to wind up in court if he missed more school. Leaving it all to the judgment of a little kid worked for now, but long run I think grandma has to be on board.

I agree. If they wind up in Family Court, I doubt that being held back will be the only outcome.  I don't know why Gregory and Janine didn't tell the grandmother that the judge might not think she's a suitable guardian for Alex.  Are there truant officers anymore?  I doubt that grandma would have showed up at court with Alex on her own, so at some point, someone from Family Services would likely have shown up at the door.

Or, alternatively, Janine and Gregory could have asked the grandmother what she thought Alex would do for a living without going to school (other than competing on The Price is Right.)   I assume if there were parents in the picture (who perhaps left for work before Alex would be able to run across the street) because  they would have figured out by now that he wasn't attending school.

It occurred to me that Janine would only be Alex's teacher for one year.

I think that's why she told him that no teacher would stay forever.

    14 hours ago, MicheleinPhilly said:

I really felt for Alex. In addition to missing Janine, it can't be at all easy for kids that age to have to get used to a new sub every single week. I know the succession of subs has mostly been played for laughs but Ava should have worked something more long term out to provide the kids with a bit of continuity and stability.

I agree that it isn't "fair" to the kids to have so many different substitutes.  It would have been better to have a long-term one, if they exist.  The sub who noticed Alex's absence seemed better than the other ones we've been shown.

    21 hours ago, Harvey said:

I had a really hard time understanding most of what the grandma said. I wish I had subtitles.

I always watch tv with subtitles, and my tv is pretty old.  Your tv doesn't have a subtitles setting?

Am I the only one thinking that Darlene was wwwaaayyy over the line talking about death to Beverly Rose; especially when Becky didn't want her to?  Yeah, people die but Darlene wasn't constructive at all.

It was one thing to say the people were dead and weren't coming back, but that was plenty.  I can't wait for Beverly Rose to ask where babies come from in Darlene's presence.  She'll not only explain conception, but also birth control, miscarriage, adoption, abortion, and a bunch of other stuff.

If Beverly Rose loves that ugly lamp Dan got for free (and to which he has no known attachment), why not just let her believe that is indeed her present?

Yes; that's what I thought, too.

What kind of present did Beverly Rose expect?  Was there no way everyone could have chipped in and gotten her a $25 or $35 present, instead of a bunch of $1 presents?  I don't know what her friends are getting, but you could get some nice Barbie stuff for that amount.

If she's been going to lots of birthday parties, I actually think that she'd be more upset about not having one and getting  to invite friends. I don't see why they couldn't have served pizza and ice cream and maybe streamed a movie at the new house for a birthday party, and she'd have gotten a few nice presents that way.  There's a restaurant in the family!  Maybe have the friends sit at the counter and "pretend" to be paying customers or something.  A party for little kids doesn't have to be expensive.

I never watched The Closer. Do you recommend it?

I also highly recommend The Closer. It was appointment tv for me.  However, it is much grittier than Elsbeth (wouldn't take much to be grittier, but it definitely is.)  I doubt that any of the Elsbeth episodes that have already been shown will stay with me very long, but parts of The Closer did, in a good way.

And the sequel, Major Crimes, was also great.

There is one thing they all have in common, which is that none of them died from natural causes. Unless you consider dysentery a natural cause, in which case you could say none of them died from old age. Their lives were all cut short for one reason or another.

The ghosts were waiting to see if Sam's aunt (prior owner of the home) who died of old age would become a ghost or not.  So they haven't made a connection between untimely death and becoming a ghost.  I wonder if any of the ghosts whom we have not seen and who were eventually sucked off had died of old age.

But yeah, I think there's no one lone reason they're all still here, I think it's a combination of things. The unfinished business from when they were alive, the fact their own actions all played a role in their untimely deaths and their struggle to take responsibility for that, the not-so-great things they did/believed/said when alive that they've yet to fully atone for and acknowledge...

We still don't know how Sasappis died.

Kaya questioned if Elsbeth could afford to buy a place in NYC and asked how long Elsbeth would be staying in NY, to which Elsbeth responded, pointing out that she had been a lawyer in Chicago, and (I think??) hinted that she could do that in NY too — presumably after passing the Bar in NY.

I'm pretty sure she was simply explaining that she had earned so much money in Chicago, she could afford a pricey NY apartment.

I'm guessing they wanted as little contact to avoid suspicion.  Plus, it didn't have to be her dog that found the wrench.

And yet the cops found the dog treats, meaning the dog bypassed the treats to focus on the wrench!

  20. It was premature for the police to declare that the wrench was the one used to loosen the screws on the balcony without further evidence, even if a suspect's prints were on them.

Also, if the dog walker was in on the plan, why bury dog treats so the dog would find the wrench? Why not just say that the dog found it? Also, I can understand enforcing dog barking rules within the building, but outside?

So the other owners didn't vote Blecher out because:

    1) they were too lazy to run the co-op, even though nobody could sell their apartments

    2) she knew deep secrets about all of them? What kind of dirt could she have on them that would stop them?

I don't get it. How does one play?

It's more a training exercise than a game, I guess. You use your cursor to move the letters left or right individually, into the correct spacing. Then click the button to enter your result and it will tell you how close to correct it is. Then click next for the next example. When you get to the end, it will give you the overall accuracy. You can also reset  and do it over again, until you get it right.

On your phone, you use your finger to slide the interior letters.

It also made no sense. Sure, Bob said it in the heat of the moment, but he already started another business and it was a success. It is time for him to rest. No need to start another company.

I was also confused about this.  He's selling MaxDot, but keeping the company that makes the socks?  Which is why MaxDot is so successful?  I felt like the show was conflating the 2 companies and that everything was going to be sold, with Bob out of the sock business completely.  (By the way, didn't he recruit the Malaysian sock producer to run the US factory?  He's not going to be thrilled at the sale, either.)

Do we know how old Bob and Abishola are?

think Bob said he'd been "raising" them since the twins were 12?  And we know he left college to take over the company. So perhaps he was 20 and now he's 53?  I know it's really not relevant, but Billy Gardell is 54. Folake Olowofoyeku is 40, which would also work for Abishola having a 17-18 year old-son. but also thinking she could possibly still have another child.

Even with IVF, Christina should not be so confident that she will become pregnant with 45 year-old eggs.  It would have made a lot more sense if she had had her eggs extracted and frozen when she was 35 (maybe at Dottie's suggestion) and now at 45, decided there was no point in waiting for the right guy anymore if she wanted to have a biological child.

And never mind worrying about what Dad would say, what about Mom (Dottie)?

Yes, they completely ignored the fact that although Dottie is no longer drawing a salary, she still is a partial owner of MaxDot and would certainly need to be informed of the offer to buy it.  If the supporting cast appearances were not limited, Bob would have gone to her to complain that the twins (and Goodwin) wanted to sell the family company, and would have been shocked to see how quickly she would have jumped at the money, family legacy or not.

Can someone please remind me: I know that Goodwin is President of MaxDot, but why does he get a vote on the sale? Did the family give him stock in the company? Even if they did, why would he have an equal vote?

I also kept thinking as the debate to sell went on that if they sold MaxDot, Kofo might well be out of a job. Finally there was a throwaway line about Bob taking Kofo with him on his next venture, but it was still strange not to mention it until then.
