  1. There is a subreddit, but for example, this Chinese discussion board has much more activity: https://www.douban.com/group/671837/
  2. Not a forum, but the show's Italian Instagram account has a lot of discussion when you find a lengthy top post, like the one below. I can post other forums, but they are in foreign languages and you'll have to machine translate, like the post below. This show has niche loyal followings all over the world. China/Taiwan/Japan/SK for instance.
  3. Season 1 and 2 got around 6-7 million viewers (per episode) in Italy which is like 10% of the population. That must be good because it's been renewed for a 3rd season. Ironically, I think the books are not popular in Italy, but the tv show is. In the US, the show is not popular (150,000 live viewers season 2 episode 1), but the books are. Go figure. Discussion online in the US is sparse. I'm finding more traffic in discussion groups of countries outside the US.
  4. Here's the answer: https://www.vulture.com/2018/12/my-brilliant-friend-hbo-neapolitan-dialect.html
  5. Question about language. I am reading that the show, in its native language, some Italians have problems understanding it because of the Neapolitan dialect or whatever dialect is used in the show. Is this true? If that is so, how is it reflected in the book? Do the characters speak in dialect in the original Italian text?
  6. I never liked Elena's mother, but it was heartbreaking to see her see her daughter off and limp away. Haven't finished the first book yet, but I hope Nino doesn't become like his father, despite how much he loathes him now. Poor Maestra Olivieri, I fear for her, maybe she'll recover, probably not.
  7. Totally agree w/the problem solving angle. I miss that. It's pretty much all politics now. We're not really sure what they're trying to solve, it's just alluded to only briefly - uranium refinement. I think Helen is in charge of the gun group but is vying w/the black guy from season 1 who basically fixed the nuclear power plant for something like a sci tech liaison. Not fond of the Crosley plot. He's not likable, doesn't seem to care. They're also juggling too many stories. Well, Dunleavy, RIP, is one that is tied up. Frank as an enlisted private was interesting, but it feels like the story is meandering, when it should be a little more linear.
  8. I doubt even HBO could have done better. Imho, this is a show best done by the French, it has a je ne sais quoi to it. A&E did a better job than Fox did w/Broadchurch. The I liked the casting mostly, but the show could not reproduce the eerie, otherworldliness, the pathos, the longing.
  9. I started season 2 w/o rewatching season 1 and was totally lost, even having read the episode summaries on Wikipedia beforehand. Definitely watch at least the last 3 episodes of season 1. Overall, I enjoyed season 2, although ratings in France were much lower than expected and based on the tweets I read, many disappointed viewers.
  10. Well, I couldn't wait so I watched the first 2 episodes of season 2. I think 3 and 4 were already broadcasted. So far, I'm intrigued, it feels like it's moving towards a satisfying ending, but what do I know, only 2 episodes in. Should have rewatched season 1 or at least the last few episodes, reading the wikipedia synopsis as a refresher just didn't do it for me as I was a little confused who was whom.
  11. I use a subtitle app. Usually subtitles are available about a day after. I have no problem finding subtitles for Broadchurch and they're usually pretty accurate. Subscene.org has subtitles.
  12. I don't get why people are calling the ending a cliffhanger. So Ellie is covering for Joe. I understand that. Doesn't seem like there's that much at stake. Why would Caver pursue an angle that involves Tom killing Danny?
  13. When I think of Anna Gunn, I think of her as Bullock's wife in Deadwood, not Skylar. I thought she was very good as Mrs. Bullock although she had less screen time than in BB.
