  1. The old show would barely be at top 20. I feel so robbed now of the journey the show took us on back then. It's obvious they are trying to create some sort of arc for Easton. My none dancer husband spotted him as the best dancer in the video of the guys, so this he's getting lost narrative is just bullshit. i guess the cuts were not unexpected I mean you have to keep the hip hop guy and the ballroom guy around so cut the contemporary dancers? I am tired I think Olivia must be pissed getting cut before Broadway week where she would have crushed. Nice to see Phillip and MacKenzie. Phillip had a massively interesting journey back in Season 5. I miss those times
  2. I agree to almost everything but bringing back Siwa. She's far too over the top and for me did not offer solid critiques last time she was on the judges' panel. I was hopeful for Comfort Unfortunately the judges seem really scripted and are pushing the show's format in a way that is artificial instead of organic.
  3. I think Commercial dancing is great it's these kids' bread and butter when they leave So You Think...but my personal enjoyment is their auditions and how far they can go in the show. Finding Top 10 out of personal sob stories isn't an audition it's just another crappy reality show. I want the auditions to stand on their own. When SYTYCD opened their show this season they referenced Ariana De Bose. It makes me side eye the entire production because of all the great dancers from this show she's beyond being a back up dancer she's the only real bonafide A Lister an Academy Award winner, whose outstanding dancing was the catalyst and her super power for the win. She is the first from this show to really elevate the artform and command the big money that commercial dancers only dream about. She's also a Tony Award nominee and 2 time host of the show. It's gotta make her so proud that it was her Dancing that pushed beyond backup. But as a competitor who only got to Top 20 and didn't have a sob story she wouldn't even be seen given this format. .
  4. I love Comfort and just hate the idea of Siwa back. Not only is Comfort a good judge of dance she's not soul crushing. There's something to be said for real diversity on the panel.
  5. I'm not sure of the format having to be commercial ready. It seems like all that fun of learning is lost.
  6. Agreed there are a lot to chose from as good representatives of Ballroom dancing. My point about Mary Murphy is she never struck anyone as far as I know, and she did try to sneak in constructive criticism now and then. I wasn't aware of this because I didn't see the seasons but someone wrote about Amber Rose being upset and crying when Maks smashed a mirror in rehearsal, and also he threw a microphone in rehearsal with Meryl Davis. Maybe it's just a temper tantrum by a man who hasn't grown up so not as traumatic as hitting Hope Solo but these are upsetting misogynistic behaviours happening up until he left the show. So given the climate now of the Nigel allegations. I just think it sheds a rather odd light. If I were a producer I'd steer clear of it.
  7. I'm sure he's 'matured' with age. I just don't think he has the best track record. And I don't think he'd be a good judge. Len called him out for slapping Brandy's ass, which was on camera. Behind the scenes must have been a dozy. Maks is damn lucky he didn't get his own ass sued. Which is probably why Brandy allowed that footage. The show had to take responsibility. Hope Solo was a pill but when another pro had to step in you have to wonder. It's Maks specifically not any other pro who has got into this kind of trouble. This isn't cancel culture it's called taking responsibility which Maks never did.
  8. The fairly new Maks had been on the show since 2006. He said those horrible things 5 years later in 2011. And since it was two seasons a year back then he had been with the show at least 10 seasons. He wasn't an 18 year old he was 31. Teaching dance was his full time job and DWTS was his bread and butter, especially since he promoted the dance studios he owned with Tony and Val. Would getting married and having a family mellow a female pro? Maybe we should ask the female pros who actually gave birth to see if there's a difference. I refuse to give Maks a pass for truly heinous things he did to celebrity contestants, the disrespect of Goodman and now he gets to judge? Not a good look.
  9. Jason Segal and Kayla! https://people.com/golden-globes-2024-jason-segel-kayla-radomski-red-carpet-couple-debut-8424048
  10. I'll take that over the mean spirited Chmerkovskiy who told Len 13 years ago he should retire because he didn't like what he had to say, then he goes on to tell Brooke that DWTS is HIS show. So that huge thin skinned narcissist isn't my idea of a good judge.
  11. I guess I'm perplexed as to how they can not focus on Nigel in the auditions as he's the head judge. He's the one who basically directs the music, etc. I think they may have to re-shoot. I don't think they would ever have more than one person who is a ballroom specialist on the panel. Personally I still like Mary Murphy instead of Maks.
  12. When you think of all the crazy accusations Mathews being the latest inappropriately texting a contestant and the proven conviction of Alex Da Silva the show would be more careful. There's an attitude on this show and it starts at the production.
  13. I love SYTYCD but with this latest revelation, how are they going to cut around Nigel? Isn't it already filming? Maks must be so pissed. Eek. The show has struggled with ratings for so many years, and now the Executive producer is stepping down. This has to happen so the environment changes. Nigel was the guy at the top when the Wade Robson stuff came out, the Alex Da Silva conviction, the Shane Sparks allegations, the Travis Wall and Nick Lazzarini cloud, even the last season Mathew Morrison inappropriate texting I hope it doesn't sink the show but that still could happen https://people.com/nigel-lythgoe-will-no-longer-serve-as-sytycd-judge-after-sexual-assault-allegations-8423124
  14. I hate how one of my favourite shows is just riddled with a history of inappropriate behaviour towards dancers. I guess it's not surprising given the Executive Producer displayed such behaviour A toxic environment starts at the top.
  15. I'm light of the engagement of Britt and Daniel. I would put them in the All Stars and remove Artem and Nikki since Daniel placed higher in his season as a semi finalist. Favourite dance was their Jazz. I still would like Artem on the show so I would replace Brandon with Artem to dance with Taymar
  16. So adorable Britt and her celebrity partner Daniel Durant have announced their engagement https://www.instagram.com/p/C1cnlziuM91/?igsh=MWZmY3E5ZGtsc2wwMg== https://www.instagram.com/p/C1cnlziuM91/?igsh=MWZmY3E5ZGtsc2wwMg==
  17. If I'm not mistaken those three Mya Mel and Evan were asked for the first All Stars season 15. Mya had issues with Dmitry and Evan had scheduling problems. Mel B wanted to do it but the producers wanted Maks to come back with Kirstie Ali - probably for more viewers. My list starts after the first all star season and the majority (9) are runners up. I would have added JoJo Siwa but frankly she was too annoying. I want to consider those who I enjoyed watching the first time.
  18. https://abcnews.go.com/amp/GMA/Culture/derek-hough-potential-dancing-stars-all-winners-season/story?id=102286765 Derek wants a season of winners which, in my mind will be boring since they already won. A season that I'd like to see is one that picks up from where season 15 left off and ONLY have runners up or those who just missed the finals or the semis. My list of 14 ideal contestants: From Season 16 Runner Up Zendaya and Val Val's first teen partner and his best. My fave dance was her Week 1 Contemporary where her commitment blew me away. Also great technique on Jive Cha Cha and AT. She probably is too busy but what a season it could be. From Season 17 Runner Up Corbin and Karina - if Karina not returning Corbin would be great with Koko He's a Lovely dancer but needed to shake off the jazz technique and give us more ballroom. Koko has been there.Fave dance Smooth Criminal Freestyle From Season 18 Runner Up Amy Purdy with Allen Bersten to replace judge Derek Beautiful dancer with major challenges but I'd love to see how Allen will rise to the challenge. This will test both contestant and pro. She had a truly Amazing Quickstep From Season 20 Runner Up Riker Lynch with Rylee Arnold replacing Allison Holker Allison now judging SYTYCD. Rylee can get help from Lindsay re: creative choreo and Riker has Utah ballroom training so could do a lot .Fave dance Pirate Paso From Season 21 Semi- Finalist Tamar Braxton with Artem replacing Val. Tamar was a strong contestant who had to drop out just before the finals due to a serious health issue. Tamar deserves a do-over. Not only was she a good competitor she had a committed fanbase. Fave dance week 3 Charleston and Janet Jackson Jazz From Season 22 Runner Up Paige Van Zant with Ezra to replace Mark Ballas. Paige was a very strong very competitive runner up dancer and was a gamer for each dance. Ezra would work well with this petite dynamo. Fave dance Austin Powers Jazz and Proud Mary Jive From Season 23 No question it's Runner Up James Hinchcliffe and Sharna he was a joy to watch and now with Canada being able to vote if Sharna is not cast Jenna had amazing chemistry with him on the Halloween Viennese Waltz also fave dance of his season. From Season 24 Semi-Finalist Simone and Sasha were strong performers but Sasha put far too much gymnastics into the ballroom. With a do-over and her post Olympic status as the GOAT of her sport she could easily make the finals. One of my fave dances was their Rumba From Season 25 Runner Up Lindsay Stirling with Pasha Pashkov Could really see Lindsay benefiting from the ballroom guy as she's done smart performances with Mark. Fave dances were the Wake Me Up Jive and the Freestyle mostly because of Marks choreo but Pasha will present her dancing From Season 27 I didn't watch this season but there's enough evidence on YouTube to bring back Semi Finalist Juan Pablo di Pace he is an excellent dancer and performed a show stopping Argentine Tango with pro partner Cheryl Burke. It was criminal to have him eliminated in the semis.Juan Pablo and Peta would be excellent together. From Season 28 Semi Finalist James Vanderbeek and Emma. One of the most heartbreaking eliminations before the finals James definitely needs a do-over. Fave dance was his NSYNC Jazz From Season 31 Finalist Shangela and Gleb These two really ignited the season and they need to return to spice it up. They really need to up their dancing but they were fun. Fave dance of course is Call Your Mother Freestyle from Season 32 Runner Up Jason Mraz and Daniella.. This was a fabulous partnership and I just want to see Jason come back and put down a Samba that he missed due to illness and a Jazz that no judge can deny. Fave dance Week 3 Jive, AT and Lindy Chicago footwork Freestyle.
  19. In my post about Teenagers and older men usually ending up 1st and 2nd I forgot the example of Bindi Irwin and Nick Carter, season 21 It just wasn't a great season for me. I didn't like either one. I thought they were both clunky dancers. I also just absolutely hated the constant cry edit over Bindi's father's death. The show successfully made this all about a man who wasn't a contestant and who always courted death with his choices. Go figure. Tamar Braxton had a lot promise but she got the difficult black female edit, in part I think because she didn't fawn over Val her partner, got sick and then it became a serious health concern when she got scary ill with the blood clot issue and had drop out before the finals. I loved her Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation Jazz routine much better than Iman's cha cha in season 30. She was really quite I'll at this point week 6 but powered through and matched the pro dancers movement. She worked herself ragged for another 3 weeks until she basically collapsed.
  20. Good to know I'm not the only one going through withdrawals https://instagram.com/stories/jason_mraz/3257152574985141782?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
  21. More exciting choreography to another great Jason Mraz song Butterfly. This one is by Misha Gabriel. He choreographed the Super Mario freestyle that Mark Ballas did with Sadie Robertson.
  22. So tonight is Tuesday night DWTS withdrawls!' It seems to be the tradition on this show that when a teenager wins, a male older dancer is either first or second runner up. The teens who have won Shawn Johnson season 8 her rival was Gilles Marini. In season 23 the winner was Laurie Hernandez and second place went to James Hinchcliffe Last year it was Charli D'Amelio with second runner up Wayne Brady. And of course this season we have Xochiti Gomez and 2nd place Jason Mraz. Season 8 Shawn was the first teenager and the first to win. Her win came down to the freestyle, Mark and Shawn were told to tone down her athleticism throughout the season but went all out with a high octane freestyle that her gymnast friends wanted and fans voted.Tom Bergeron said there was a 1% difference between the vote for 1st and 2nd if Shawn was on tic tok back then she would have easily won despite Gilles' great season before injury and subsequent disappointing freestyle sunk his chance. But that season Gilles and Cheryl did an Argentine Tango in week 4 that earned a perfect score. It was the first season for this style, so even if the choreography was simplistic compared to what celebrities like Jason did this season it stands out as a classic due to Gilles' impeccable style. You could not look away and stands out as the dance of season 8 Season 23 Laurie Hernandez's children's play yard freestyle was choreographed at least in part by Mandy Moore which was a smart choice. Conversely, James' pro partner Sharna Burgess had a wonderful year as a choreographer especially the Halloween Viennese Waltz but the Freestyle returned to James' accident aftermath which was the wrong way to go. They talked about his recovery throughout the season. His fun dances like the QS and Jive proved he wasn't defined by his accident. Fun freestyles are normally the better choice especially for people with fun personalities. IMHO James' was best when he could go into character and the Halloween V Waltz perfect score was the best example of his l exciting season. It's gone viral to the point of being the dance of Season 23 Season 31 Charli D'Amelio's freestyle was fun but if Im being honest her body of work throughout the season surpassed this freestyle. She had the ginormous presence on tic tok that even if only 10% of her fanbase bothered to vote she was a shoe in. Also both Wayne and Gaby had freestyles that were a miss. In Wayne's case just another hip hop in a season full of hip hop from Wayne and Witney and Gabys freestyle was an embarrassing re-work of Laurie Hernandez's Argentine Tango. Charli had hands down the better Freestyle of the 3. There are so many of Charli's dances that were fantastic but the one that really moved me was her Viennese Waltz. For me it is the gold standard for any future VWaltz because the emotion comes from the dancing not simply a facial expression but expression through dance giving us a glimpse of the soul. The technique was impeccable and combined with the emotion was absolutely the reason I love ballroom dancing. Season 32 flipped the script on Freestyles. Of the teen winners Xochiti wasn't the most technical compared to Charli, Shawn or Laurie but she was a performer, lots of sizzle over substance that the audiemce preferred over the traditional arc of rising back after adversity. Early on Jason and Dani came out strong, struggled through illness and questions over real Jazz and returned strong . Their freestyle far surpassed everyone, even the winner, who probably didn't have even the second best freestyle but she had a huge social media presence and lots of support from the show. Bringing in Charli to pass the Mirrorball to the next teenage winner seems indicative of how the show wants to proceed in the future. However for my money the dance that will be replayed as iconic for season 32 was Jason and Dani's Freestyle. It felt like a full circle moment from when Jason owned their Jive in week 3 to going back to an original dance style that pre dates Jive to Lindy Hop and as Dani said on her Instagram - Jason just bodied that dance.
  23. This would have been Dani's second Mirrorball. She won with Iman Shumpert season 30.
  24. The 5th place contestant has always been eliminated before the finals or even earlier when there was a 3 person finale. So we will never know how they would do at the end of the season. The freestyle for Alyson Harrigan was one of her best scores, and the only 5th place to compete in the finals. This season we had a celebrity judge who is well aware of missing the finale. Neicy Nash never got the tens, but like Alyson she was beloved by the fans and survived a "last to be called safe" and an actual bottom 2 to continue dancing. Niecy rallied from the threat of elimination week 6 and danced a Quickstep in week 7 her best dance that scored a 25. This was the same score Alyson got for her Quickstep 13 years later. It was also her best dance before the finale. Niecy and Louis Quickstep Alyson and Sasha Quickstep And the similarities continue: Alyson had a 20lb weight loss while being a contestant. Again, like Alyson, Niecy experienced weight loss according to this article https://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-body
  25. Jason Mraz music is inspirational for all forms of dance. Here's a Japanese contemporary group dancing to another song off his new album -Disco Sun https://www.instagram.com/reel/C0ohsMFS1Nz/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
