He should get a new agent.

I know you're joking, but he kinda...should. He was a pretty busy star for a while there in comedies, but I haven't seen him in anything in years.

  2. Is this really a remake or is this just the original British show? I watched the first episode and 2 of the guys were British. Plus Rob Delaney who was doing the jokey narration works a lot in the UK.

Edit: Ah, I see it says "2014" for the original series up above. Still, this seems more like something that was imported from England rather than something that was produced in the US.

  3. This was the first episode where I thought the absurdity worked (I only watched the first half-hour).

And yes, David Koechner does have 5 kids, but he's also currently married, so the reality of this show is definitely askew.

Edit: Hmm. I stand corrected, apparently in 2020 he filed for divorce.

  4. That's true. I think with "To Tell The Truth" they've been kind of subtly inserting fake audience laughter in there to simulate there being an audience, but Match Game really depends on the audience laughing at the panelists' answers.

There are actually three left unaired from Season 5 right now, when you account for Code Blue.

So two of them have now been accounted for (this week's episode and next week's episode).

There's still one episode (509) that hasn't been shown.

  6. The creator of the show, Simon Rich, doesn't appear to be involved with this season. Not sure why he left, but the new showrunner Dan Mirk was a writer on the first two seasons and a lot of the other writers appear to be the same, so the quality of the show shouldn't change too much.

I believe Quinta Brunson (from "A Black Lady Sketch Show") is going to have a recurring role this season.

  7. If you watch the episodes on HBO Max, the episodes are uncut. There was a pretty funny joke in the second episode that was missed on the CW....it came after the line about "If we identify one of the UFOs, doesn't it then become an....FO?"  Sergeant Maaka replies "I'll tell you what, why don't you two F.O." and makes them leave the room. 😄

The penis aliens were still blurred out in the original episode though.

  8. Yep, it looks like ABC is burning off two previously unaired episodes over the next two weeks.

7/21/21 (We.) 10:00 PM  ABC  (#510) Match Gala - Mario Cantone, Vivica A Fox, Antonio Brown, Hilaria Baldwin, Fred Armisen, Christie Brinkley

7/28/21 (We.) 10:00 PM ABC   (#512) Horatio Sanz, Marilu Henner, Michael Colter, Ali Wentworth, Justin Long, Drea de Matteo

The 7/28 episode is listed as the "season finale".

Waitress was probably pretty good training for Sara, plus I think she did theater back in college, so I wasn't surprised she did okay in this.

I've only watched the pilot so far, but it seems like she is intentionally trying for a Tina Fey/Liz Lemon cadence in delivering her lines.

It's kind of like when other actors star in Woody Allen movies and try do to their best "Woody" imitation in the lead role.

Tonight's Vintage is going to be Steve Buscemi/Third Eye Blind, from 1998. This was an interesting period for SNL because Norm Macdonald had been removed from Update and then left the cast. Whether due to this or some other factor, Lorne and NBC spent the last half of the season having famous actors appear for one or two sketches an episode. This one has an appearance by none other than John Hurt, in a Mad Hatter's Tea Party sketch.

Not to mention a baffling wordless cameo from Natasha Henstridge (from "Species") at the end of that job interview sketch.

I feel like the episode was built just around that joke though. It wasn't bad, and I liked it, but like I said, odd choice for # 700.

It's possible that they don't really know what order Fox is going to show the episodes in (they often show them wildly out of production order, and indeed some of the episodes airing this season are from the previously produced season of episodes). So they probably weren't writing this episode expecting that it was going to be the 700th aired episode.

  12. Yes, in order to keep the characters the same age (Lisa 8, Bart 10, Homer...in his mid-thirties, I think?) they have to keep retrofitting how long ago events occurred. So "six years ago" I guess meant six years ago from now, which would place this episode in 2014 (assuming they wrote this in 2020), in which Uber, Ipads, etc. were all in existence.

I'm more shocked by the fact that the episode where Maude Flanders died happened in "our time" OVER TWENTY YEARS AGO. If the show was following real-time continuity, Rod and Tod would be in their late twenties or early thirties by now.

I think the show needs to end soon.  They have run out of 1980's ideas and this season has been boring.

It'll be weird if the show ends this season and "American Housewife" does as well. They'll kinda have to rebuild Wednesday night from the ground up.

  14. I wonder why the season was cut short, I assume it must be for Covid-related reasons. 9 episodes seems like an odd length for a season, generally a show either has a mini-season of 6 episodes or 13 (pre-being picked up for a full season).

  15. During that four-way phone call between Bow and her friends, one of the girls appeared to be on Zoom or some other kind of computer-based phone system, haha. The other 3 looked OK but her square looked all glitchy and computer-y, it kind of took you out of the '80s setting a bit 😄
