  1. Was there a huge time-jump between these last 2 episodes? Because that baby did NOT look like one that was just born a week (or even weeks) ago. I know "time" is flexible on this show though...

I would guess Coolie is the sole reason that was chosen, although I enjoy a good amount of that episode  (Gary Macdonald, Hi-C and Turkey, the mafia sketch).

Kind of eerie that the episode heavily featured three people who have died relatively recently (Aiello, Coolio, and Norm). Actually Bobbie Battista who was parodied in the cold open died in 2020 as well.

  3. Yeah, it's kinda clear McClendon-Covey wanted to keep doing the show and...no one else did. I get it, money is money, but hopefully this is the last season. All the artificial methods they're using to prolong the show (Erica having a baby, Judd Hirsch now becoming the surrogate George Segal character) are indicative of a show on its last legs. Pull the plug.

  4. At first I thought it was Jennifer Hudson too, because of the "And I'm telling you" clue, but now I do think it's Riley.

She mentioned something about "being in a comedy with my besties" and that makes sense with her being part of the ensemble cast of Glee.

Also I think there were some Wizard of Oz clues and she was on that "Wiz Live!" special on NBC

I do agree this idea for the season's a LOT better and allows for less "We couldn't get anyone else" choices like Giuliani 😬

  5. Hamm is Fallon's lead guest on Friday, so let's hope he sticks around NY for another week and makes a cameo on the Teller episode.

The Brendan Gleeson pick does seem like the kind of thing they would've done more of in the '90s, going with the older character actor. But you never know, sometimes that turns out to be a surprise. I also heard they might've had difficulty booking this episode and he was kind of a last-minute choice.

I wish they'd added more women. One thing I've liked is that the recent years weren't so grossly lopsided in favor of male cast. But that era seems to be over.

Not counting Jost and Che, there are now 8 men in the cast and 7 women, so not that lopsided. (Cecily's going to be out for at least the first 3 episodes of the season though, due to her doing her one-woman show).

This show seems like it has a built-in barrier to being exciting, because if the show has 2 minutes until it's over and the contestant is not on the million dollar song yet, you know they're just going to take the money and leave before getting there. It's not like "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" where they'll just stop the show and continue it next week.

So I guess I was wrong about this. It was weird how they interrupted the show mid-the contestant making a decision though.

  8. I think the actress who plays Brea is going to be on the next season of "Cruel Summer" on Freeform, so I wonder if they're going to be writing her out of the show.

With Beverly staying on as the Quaker Warden, it strikes me that they could turn the series into sort of a version of "Schooled", with the Principal and Tim Meadows.  And balance that with the kids adventures in college.

Also, I want to say that I wouldn't complain about dinners with Geoff's parents if I got to eat Chinese food every Sunday.

I mean, eventually the '80s have to end, right? At what point does "The Goldbergs" just BECOME "Schooled"? 😄

I've had a few laughs this season, but I'm definitely out when season 9 ends. Everything that I once found fun and endearing is gone and it's now a chore to sit through. The family is scattered and the holes left by Pop Pop and Murray are huge; the 80s nostalgia is increasingly hamfisted and unfunny; and I have no interest in "the next chapter" of Erica's married life and Adam in college. It was once a fun show set in a decade that I remember fondly, sprinkled with real-life memories of the creator's family, but it's not that anymore and I'm done. I may cave and watch the series finale, but that's it. I hope all of you who hang in there for season 10 enjoy it!

I'm just amused by the chutzpah of ABC renewing it for a full season 10, as if it's going to be able to continue going on beyond that. I figured they'd do the thing like they did with "Black-ish" where they renew it for a shortened final season (like 13 eps), letting the show wrap up every possible storyline and go out the way they want to. They call this "renanceling" 😀 (they did it with Brooklyn Nine-Nine too.)

I guess it's possible they could still announce they're doing this when ABC announces its full schedule during upfront week, but for right now it seems like it's going to be a full season of 22 episodes. I guess ABC doesn't have much on deck to replace it with, comedy-wise.

  11. Funny the crossovers with the other shows ex-"30 Rock" people are involved with; this episode was written by Meredith Scardino who created "Girls 5Eva", and costarred Josie Totah from the Saved by the Bell reboot created by Tracey Wigfield who was also a 30 Rock writer.

  12. The two women having the discussion in the foreground- "I'm leaving you because you have too many dogs!" with the dogs chasing Gene in the background was such a hilarious visual joke. Coen Brothers-esque.

One could speculate, if events happened the way they were shown, why did they need to show Ken walking off at all? It could have been easily edited out since it was right at the very end. I guess just to make people  tune in next week for the supposed aftermath?

I really don't know why they didn't do this. It would've made the end of the show a lot less awkward and uncomfortable.
This way, it just comes off like the producers of the show saying "Yeah, we'll do anything for ratings, even if it upsets one of our judges!"

  14. Lol, that one brief shot of Murray at the wedding looked like he was a Force ghost like Anakin and Obi-Wan at the end of Return of the Jedi.

The wedding has to be the series finale, right?

Apparently not. Next week's episode is called "The Wedding" and it's the show's 200th episode. It's the 16th episode of the season, I believe we've got 5 or 6 more to go.
