  1. But 21st century Crane isn't a cold fish. Neither is 18th century Crane. Stiff, yes. Cold fish? No. Look at his expression as he is handing over the flower when he is "helping" Grace and Abbie put together the ingredients to reverse the spell. The reaction to her hug was very much within his 18th century persona. Overt displays of affection between a man and a woman who were not "betrothed" was exceedingly uncommon. He is not repelled by it, he is totally caught by surprise mentally and physically.
  2. I loved this episode. I could comment on a lot of it (and this is the first SH episode in a long time where I have overwhelmingly positive things to say) but I can't get over how touching that final scene is. Yes, the episode set a (mostly) clean slate for further S3 adventures if there is to be one. If there isn't it is still a beautiful ending to me for this reason: When Abbie says, "You ready, Captain?" it just gets to me. There is so much said with that. It's the first time in the 21st century Crane's character as a man has been acknowledged since possibly the pilot. Straight up respect for him in a way that hasn't been overtly said before. Though Abbie has always realized and respected his humanity, she had no frame of reference to realize and respect how much he lost as a Captain with nothing to command. His command was his identity, the backbone of who he was as a person. It was the one thing I think he felt he created about himself for himself. Abbie calling him Captain means so much more for them going forward. When Crane turns around, you can see on his face that he is registering that too. It was beautifully acted and stays with me.
  3. What do I think will happen? They will have to rescue Katrina every other episode till the end of time. What should happen? Everything but that. (Excuse me. I gave in to a moment of bitterness).
  4. When fans have to look so deeply for meaning into what has been written, I think that's a problem. You can't keep everyone happy. Pick a thought and stick to it. The overarching theme of this season is war causing dissension, and not necessarily by the methods we immediately jump to when we usually think of war. So in my opinion, if you are going to tell a story about an emotional war, make it compelling. Make the stakes high. The way Katrina and Ichabod have been portrayed this season does not make the stakes high. For example, having Katrina gone from team witness should not feel like "FINALLY!" And there's no stakes for me as a viewer with Ichabod's inner turmoil because they have bastardized all the rational out of his character. A nuanced character made one note. He might be "enchanted"? Well drop a few more hints in that direction so he doesn't come off as some love addled fool. Or tone deaf to the world and people around him. This season too has mostly had Abbie reacting to things. ...Except for the things that would be important to her overall growth as a character. Purgatory? Drowning? I know she's one focused person but she isn't a machine. Not to mention she's the strategist. It makes no sense to me as a viewer that in 8 episodes she hasn't tried to work out a plan of offense rather than defense, with or without Ichabod. The lack of Jenny and Irving is more than annoying at this point. It's willfully ignorant on the writer's part. Two very intriguing storylines dropped. Two storylines that could have seamlessly been integrated a lot sooner than episode 9 into the emotional war theme they appear to be going for. And last, I do not need a jealousy subplot with Abbie and Ichabod. Just please. Get your overarching theme right before you throw that crap complication in.
  5. I have a question. I'm putting it out there because I wonder if I missed something... Are there 2 emerald necklaces? At the end of "Indispensable Man", Ichabod was contemplating it in his hands right before he got up to redraw the map of Purgatory. In "This Is War", Headless/Abraham put it around Katrina's neck.
