  1. Ooo I'll join this too.

1- AoS. This season is much, much better and the new characters (hi Mockingbird!) have added to the show for the better. @DannyFranks start watching AoS again! Tyra Collette IS worth it! (pours one out for FNL)

2- The Flash. It's light-hearted fun on a Tuesday night.

3- Gotham. Still 50/50 for me but it does seem to be finding it's feet now.

4- Arrow. 3x01 was my breaking point. Not even Felicity can bring me back to this show.

    I don't watch Constantine so I can't rank it.

  2. Two things:

    1) I didn't that realize she was Berlin's daughter until the conversation about her father so well played show. Nicely done.

    2) The FBI sure do hand out nice cars to their agents. I especially like the silver on Agent Navabi's car.

  3. I just can't wrap my head around way they have such a problem writing for character/actress. Like John Campea said in his review, they are capable of writing strong female characters, why can't they write Laurel?

The answer's pretty straight forward imo: they're stuck on the "Dinah Laurel Lance is the BC" narrative and have tried everything possible to make it happen. This has, in turn, made their writing incredibly inconsistent as they try and find a crucible for Laurel that'll stick. All the other female characters have been relatively blank canvases for them i.e. they haven't had the burden of a pre-determined narrative stuck to them from the minute they stepped onto our screens.

This isn't an excuse for the show runners because if they had the slightest feel for their audience, they would have dispensed with the "Laurel is the BC" narrative ages ago and made her into something else.

  4. but considering how this season's been going, I almost wished Katrina Law found a better superhero gig elsewhere.  Like The Flash.  Or Gotham. Or, and I can't believe I am saying this, Agents of Shield.  But, I'll try to enjoy it for now, even if it requires her to prop up Laurel.

De-lurking to say that AoS is kicking Arrow's ass at the moment. The addition of Agent Bobbi Morse has elevated AoS while subtracting Sara Lance has dragged Arrow to No. 3 on my comic TV shows list (1st being AoS, 2nd being The Flash).

I appreciate everyone else's input though and it's helping me decide whether or not to watch this episode due to Nyssa being back.

  5. So I just caught up with this show and watched tonight's episode live. I honestly can't believe I missed out on it (okay I know why I did, the title put me off). This show is honestly just plain hilarious! Everything from the narrator to the white commentary writing to the various crazy plots going on, it's quickly become my Monday night guilty pleasure and I'll be telling as many of my friends as I can to watch this show.

I'm still not keen on Rafael (Rafe?) but otherwise this is a pretty stellar cast. Also want to shout out Bridget Regan and Diane Guerrero from OITNB.

  6. Cobalt Stargazer, I am with you.

I never liked the actress. I don't know what it is. I never saw any interview with her - and if there is something she said that can be considered "nice", maybe I should read - so I don't know anything about her. And the character matches my impression of the actress: the blonde beauty, perfect in every way. It is as if AJ Cook tries to hard to be always the most beautiful, the most popular and this spills over to her (bad)acting.

I know she is the model of beauty (for TV), but I don't even think she is beautiful. All I see is superficiality and blandness. No sparkle, no personality.

Maybe if I knew that AJ Cook is (insert quality, as defined by my values, here) I could change my impression. Not about the acting, because I think this boat has sailed and it sunk. But she must have SOMETHING going on for her.

As someone who has seen interviews of AJ Cook, I'll just say that you're way off base with this.

  7. Looks like I'm in the minority (of one!), but I didn't mind it. Didn't love it, didn't hate it, just didn't mind it.

    Thoughts:

    • Unlike most, I thought it was a very well-balanced use of the team.  Plenty of classic Reid to keep me happy, and each of the others with their moments to shine.
    • I liked that Reid was able to show both his knowledge (of the conditions) and his insight (being certain it was a delusion), and that he used both to persuade the others.  He spoke with authority, which made them listen.
    • Still wanted to reach into my screen to comb his hair!
    • For the most part, they got the medicine right.  The only glaring mistake was confusing chronic Lyme for recurrent Lyme.  I thought it was pretty obvious that Reid said they were 'controversial' conditions, and not fabricated ones, which is true, so I don't know why people would take offense (with the show, anyway).
    • Just FYI---all of the things Reid mentioned are actively under study.  There is consensus, but no absolutes, on anything except that people really do have the symptoms.  One day, when medicine understands better what is causing the symptoms, there will be no need for conspiracy theories.  Right now, there are some who claim to 'know' the causes, and they create most of the anguish about how it's being addressed.
    • I didn't mind seeing the unsub early, because the real 'unsub' was the disease, and they needed to expose us to it.  But, like others, I could have done without quite as much time spent on it, and the support group, etc.
    • I thought the guest stars were all quite good.  Liked seeing Alicia Coppola, remembering her from AW many, many years ago.
    • Bet they didn't realize how timely an exterior of the CDC would be when they filmed this episode.
    • Maybe future events will prove me wrong, but I thought that the final scene with JJ and the unsub's girlfriend was more about the disease than about JJ.  I thought it was to show us that the belief would persist despite any facts uncovered by the case.  It had to be either JJ or Kate in that conversation, because of their prior interrogation of her.  Of course, JJ was the more obnoxious in that interrogation and, at the end, was feeling the heat of it from the girlfriend.  If that were to give JJ pause (I know, it won't) and think about what she lost when she moved from liaison to profiler, then it's a good thing.  (I may be feeling a fanfic coming on...)

So, I'm drinking my morning coffee from a Christmas mug, to see if it will put me in the mindset to knock out some Christmas cards this afternoon.  December is just waayy too busy!

I'm with you JustMyOpinion so we can be a party of two! :) I thought it was an okay episode considering there have been worse episodes over the last few seasons.

Don't get the JJ hate either *shrug*

  8. @caitylotz: Excited for some #Arrow tonight! Can't to see the great performance I saw in person, finally on screen from @MzKatieCassidy!

She's a better person than me because I wouldn't have mentioned anything Laurel-related at all (yes I'm still very, very bitter).

  9. Okay so just chiming in again (breaking my current "I don't want to talk about Arrow anymore" rule), I should've clarified when I said I watched the panel live. I meant I was actually at the panel as well and heard the same as what Orion and writersblocks51 did. It's a shame that none of the videos so far have been clear but there was a definite reaction by the audience to the "I wish she died" comment. Too bad the producers weren't there to hear it and poor Stephen had to field the questions/aggro instead although I doubt it would've sunk in for them.

ban1o you and I are cool. You did apologize once I pointed out what I had heard.

  10. umm yeah no one ever said "I wish she were dead.| The guy said "he want to marry that girl one day" its unfortunate that someones hatred or bias against Laurel caused them to either make a quote up or incorrectly hear the wrong information.

That particular tidbit happened at the beginning of the Q&A IIRC, which is cut off just as the Youtube video starts. I watched the entire panel live and Orion definitely wasn't making that bit up. I don't like Laurel but I wasn't sure whether to laugh or face-palm in embarrassment when it happened.

As for the panel itself, it was interesting to hear his thought process about certain things and I chuckled at his reaction to the guy who called him Oliver.

  11. So I just finished watching this after my despair at Arrow tonight.

Not quite sure what to make of Garcia's SL tonight, skipped through most of it but appreciated the 1v1 with the prisoner and Morgan showing up at the end. I also actually enjoyed the case tonight although they keep spoiling who the killer is way too early!

  12. Felicity, this season or the next.

I mean, I'm not coping with Sara's death at all but if they kill Felicity they can kiss their show goodbye because the ratings will tank hard. Seeing that they don't care what it takes to make Laurel the BC, we better start praying for Felicity :(

Ugh...I'm going to go and watch Criminal Minds to stop thinking about the mess I just witnessed.

  13. Fuck Guggenheim et al. Fuck them! Arrow is not on my list of must-watch TV anymore.

EDIT: I'm now just chuckling at this because man, they did the one thing most people didn't want to see happen. Aarg!

  14. I think Sinitta's aura of uselessness, combined with her stupid offensive Indian outfit, must have put ALL of those acts at Simon's house off their game.  "Stink", "stank" and "stunk" were my reactions all throughout.

This is the absolute truth. That outfit was awful! What was she thinking? "How do I manage to become relevant again? Oh I know, an offensive outfit at Simon's house!"

  15. I'm not gonna lie, I barely pay attention to the auditions at the Judges' Houses. All I want to see is who went through and then wait for the live shows so thanks aradia22 for always keeping us updated.

  16. Interesting views in this thread. As a long time viewer of CM, I never once entertained the thought of JJ/Reid. Now that could be because I just don't see any of the team dating each other and I've missed all the cues but I just don't see how their relationship could be anything but platonic. However, I don't think I'll ever buy that JJ is in love with Will and would've preferred her to be paired up with someone else.

Also, I never quite understood the fandom's resentment of JJ. Every single member of the team has traits that make you shake your head countless times but for some reason, JJ seems to get the majority of ire. Do I think that the whole contract situation with CBS/AJ messed up the character growth or timeline of JJ? Yes but I don't buy into the theory of "oh they've made her into Super!JJ" either.

I do acknowledge my thoughts could make me into my own little party of one here :)
