  1. Welcome back to the Beeboverse/Arrowverse's best show!

I need to know when the CW gave them a bump in budget enough to do an entire season centered around CGI aliens lol. It's definitely appreciated.

Not sure what to think of the new character but for the most part, Legends tends to intergrate new people well in this show so I'll follow whatever direction we're going with her.

For all the talk of Ava here, Gary is the character who most annoys me. If I could pick one person to boot off the show, it'd be him because I've honestly have had enough of him and even retconning him to be an alien hasn't made me like him more.

Ava may not be my favourite character but I like her relationship with Sara because it feels like one of the most grounded relationships I've seen on any of the Arrowverse shows. Would I like more Sara and less Ava & Sara together? Sure because Caity Lotz is a powerhouse but if not, the two of them together don't bug me all that much and if they get married, good for them.

I'm annoyed we didn't get a mini crossover though. It'd been fun to see Alex and other Supergirl characters in the Legends world.

And calling it the next Game of Thrones? No. It's not even the next The Magicians. I'd put it a step above The Shannara Chronicles, but only because they spent more money on SFX.

Having watched all three of these shows, this is exactly where I'm at about Shadow & Bone. I find Alina far more interesting when she's interacting with everyone BUT Mal, heck I even like her with the Heretic/general even though I knew he was nothing but trouble from the start. The writing is...bland, everyone who isn't Grisha or the kidnapping crew (forgot their official name) is basically one note, the acting is choppy in bits and the main ship annoys me. You lose me when the side characters are more interesting than the protagonist and the main romance of a show is the worst thing about it, which sucks for me as a viewer because I know a large chunk of whatever happens next will be focused on Alina & Mal.

I enjoyed this for what it was, but I don't think it warrants a re-watch.  The Crows were okay (Jesper being the best) but Mal and Alina were so bland as to be non-existent.  I don't know if the books are the same as I've never heard of or read them, but the show definitely fell into the common YA trap of making the principal protagonists have absolutely no personality whatsoever.  It made it hard for me to buy into the big Mal/Alina romance/friendship (still not sure what they were going for there) or even care much about them at all.  I feel sorry for the actors who were given nothing to work with.

I think I might not be the target audience for this because YA romance correctly describes how I feel about them. I also probably won't re-watch the season too.

    The things I did like:

    - The Grisha. All of them. I wanted more from their world and their social dynamics.

    - The kidnapping crew. The story tended to shift tonally with them which is needed sometimes in a show this constricted (so far) world-building wise.

    - The concept of The Fold is intriguing but I feel like we're still missing bits and pieces about what it is and how exactly it works.

Overall, an average show with solid elements throughout. Might give Season 2 a shot when it drops but it's not a must-watch for me.

Nearly all of the "teens" looked well over 25 to me so I just had to roll with that but that's probably just me being my own old self, heh.

Funnily enough the oldest of the cast is the actress who plays Fatin, who's 24/25. The rest turned 21 or 22 this year.

The first episode had me intrigued but by the time I got to episode 3, I was hooked. Each girl is complex and fascinating in their own right and seeing them have to battle their internal issues as well as being on the island was a great viewing experience. Each back story was intriguing and well done but I want to give a special shout out to the actress who plays Shelby. That pageant performance after she finds out her friend died was some of the best acting I saw on the show.

I'm still not sure how Gretchen thinks she'll get away with this especially now that Shelby's caught on too (how exactly did she do that?). Eventually, she'll get caught and nothing these girls could do/have done will excuse this "experiment" of hers.

Are both Nora and Martha dead since we didn't see either of their standalone episodes? Season 2 will hopefully answer that and how Shelby's now got a dissociative personality? We also saw an island with boys but tbh, I don't want to follow their stories as we still have so much unanswered with the girls.

  4. How exactly would a threesome between the Bats, Wonder Woman and Superman work? Wouldn't two of them have to de-power somehow to make it happen?

Dr Psycho didn't need to blow up Harley & Ivy's spot like that. He needs a harsher consequence than a baseball bat to the head.

Knowing how Ivy is, she'll probably still try and push through with this wedding but I don't see them actually completing their vows tbh

    Bane! Missed you buddy

    Best Little Mermaid song ever.

I can't believe they did that to Under The Sea 😂

I'm gonna hold off on commentating about the whole Harley/Ivy thing. I want to see how they play it out before forming an opinion on it.

This was not great. It wasn't bad, either, but it was not great.

Surprisingly, the best stuff was actually the B plot with Kite Man. The main story felt more like "Hey, look how similar to a big budget movie we can make our animation look" than "we've got a really funny and smart way to advance the plot."

I agree. This show is usually so good that when it dips, you notice it straight away,

  7. I hope Bane isn't gone for good. He's too funny to be done forever. Also, we need more people like him to be interested in true prison reform 😉

Idk what to make of that ending. They've hinted at before but as Harley/Ivy wasn't there yet in their personal journey, they never followed through with it. Ivy really does like Kite Man but if she had to choose, Harley is her No. 1 so I see heartbreak in the future for Kite Man (unless they enter a polyamorous relationship).

The bigger question is why chest hair grows in a triangular pattern on Gordon....Did he groom it? Or is it a mutation?

I thought he groomed it to make it look like the Bat signal tbh

  9. I shouldn't have enjoyed the Bane chair gag as much as I did but I couldn't stop laughing. Also his voice being all garbled because of the mask and ice has me cracking up!

    "Wonder Woman is very litigious."

Welcome back Harley Quinn and co.

  10. Two episodes featuring Frank! Very happy with that.

Ivy's biggest fear is being abandoned by Harley? Which means she's finally found someone she truly cares about (if that wasn't obvious before)?

    source.gif

So the L.O.D. were after Ivy's pheromones and now they have them. Might be a dumb question but is there a reason why Ivy can't just command the plant to stop killing people?

  11. Bane being the L.O.D. accountant and bending the credit card because his scissors were too blunt had me laughing so hard I had to pause the episode. It's the little things on this show that make it so funny.

Frank is a WNBA fan, proving once again that he has great taste.

Well, except that having trouble relating to emotional issues is part of her torment.  Because she recognizes that it's there, but can't do anything about it.

In a way, it's a bit like she's a high functioning autistic person, who sometimes needs signs that others wouldn't because she lacks the ability to process things in the way others do.  And the fact that she recognizes this about herself means those things all remind her that she's not completely human in the way everyone else is.

People mentioning the letter, which wasn't a great look, but I don't know if it's really all about jealousy as much as it's about the problem she has relating and internalizing other people's emotions.  Her describing her own performance review, which she did herself, and she knows that trying may make things worse, but not trying also makes things worse, so then which is the lesser evil?

She wasn't designed to be able to do any of this, and she's incredibly aware of that fact at times when she knows that what she's doing isn't right, but she doesn't know exactly what the right thing would be.  Yes, some things should be obvious to a typical person, but she's not a typical person and things that come easy to others take work for her.

I'm not sure how it can be solved except maybe living with the Legends and interacting with them as family more rather than spending time in the structured bureaucratic setting will give her more experience with people and emotions and that way she will learn how to grow and process them.  Before that, aside from Sara, all she's had are fake memories that weren't designed for someone who experiences emotions and so probably hurt more than they help.

I'm particularly interested in her getting along with Mick, who is oddly enough a really great observer of humanity and she can learn a lot from him.  Maybe Sara subconsciously realized that and it's why she wanted them to get along last season, because she probably always wanted Ava to come onto the ship rather than leaving the ship to move in with her.

I agree with all of this. Any time Ava seems cold or... lacking, I always remind myself that she's a clone who was built to be a stiff, no-rule breaking time bureau agent. Emotions and emotional cues are not her forte.

On another forum, someone said if you call the number on Constantine's business card Gary answers and you hear Constantine in the background yelling at him.

I called the number and it's true lol

So much happens in this show I usually end up having to re-watch it for stuff I missed. What I didn't miss? Ray making Rasputin explode from the inside (see Marvel? You could've done it too!) and John drinking Rasputin's viscera (gross).

Sara had me in my feels when she was talking about everything that happened. She needs a moment to process/decompress.

Really good episode to start of the season (and now we wait for another two weeks before the next one....sigh).

  14. I love everything about this show. The talk show bit had me in stitches!

gotta love the Funches. I've said it elsewhere but the single best part of the series is Lake Bell's Poison Ivy.

    I agree.

EDIT: There was a moment when Ivy fell on top of Harley and they made it a point to focus on that. I know the creators said they won't be getting together but are they planting the seed for them getting together in future seasons? Otherwise why make it a point to pause on that moment?

  15. I just finished the season this past weekend and my overall thought is: just as the show was finally hitting its stride, it got cancelled. Ah well.

    - There may have been missteps here and there throughout the series but I really enjoyed this cast. I'd say probably the guy who plays Chase was the weakest of them all (the girl who plays Molly is still a kid so I'll excuse her) but he improved this season.

    - I'm gonna miss Tina. She was one of the worst parents but Brittany Ishibashi made her so entertaining whether she was regular Tina or alien Tina.

    - Nico truly came into her own this season and all the stunts, magic, emotions she went through pushed her right to the top of my favourite character list. Heck, I think the Minors were by far the most interesting family as a whole.

    - The visuals and the stunt work were impressive this season especially in the dark dimension.

I'll probably came back after a rewatch with more thoughts but I wanted to put those down first.

  16. Well that was a fun watch! I enjoyed Season 1 and Season 2 was a solid step forward in my opinion. Putting the following in spoilers just in case:

    Spoiler

    - Nico imho, was the MVP of this season and I'm interested in where they're taking her magic now that Marvel has seemingly allowed them to say the staff has evolved past technology?

    - I get Karolina's need to find out more about herself but I wanted to smack her for trusting Jonah so much. Xavin is an interesting wrinkle to Karolina's storyline (even though she's currently kidnapped) and I laughed out loud at the back and forth between Xavin and Nico.

    - Alex, for a smart kid, does some really dumb things but I put that down to them all being teenagers which means bad decisions will pop up sooner rather than later. Same with Molly.

    - Chase is hard to read. He seemingly loves his parents but at the same time won't betray the kids? He has to make a choice at some point because the middle road won't work out for anyone.

    - Gert's character arc was also interesting to see unfold as she tries to balance her anxiety with her logical reasoning.

    - I know they've taken the parents further along than the comics ever did but I really like having them around. It gives the kids another layer as characters and the parents continue to be great antagonists.

    - Big props to Lyrica, Brittany and James for killing that fight sequence they did together. That was awesome to watch.

    - I think the missing 'Brother' or other magistrate is Karolina's soon to be younger sibling.

‘Runaways’ Season 2 Review: Marvel’s YA Drama Pulls Off One of the Biggest Season-to-Season Improvements Ever

"At the end of the series’ 13 episodes, which honestly still could have been cut down to 10, we’re left with a thrilling season that puts Runaways indisputably in the conversation as some of Marvel’s best television work, even if the first season wasn’t exactly your cup of tea. In continuously pushing the boundaries, it also sets up a third season that has the potential to reach even greater heights."

(Other reviews I've read aren't quite as effusive as this one, however.)

Yeah me too which makes me excited for this season.

  18. Let me start by saying I may be in the minority here but I have never enjoyed the Arrowverse crossovers except last season's and only when the Legends showed up. I was so happy that they weren't included this year and they went and blew me away with their own version of Elseworlds. I stan the Legends writing room hard! (I'm with you Nate, hard pass on answering that phone call).

Where do I even begin? Ray a murderous custodian, Charlie's Angels aka Sirens of Space or Depressed Ava (who reminded me of goth Felicity, guess that's what grieving could do to you lol). It was all pure madness and I loved every second of it!

Can ZariCat just be a thing now like Beebo? That cat was adorable and needs to come back at some point.

Bad Grandma and Mick teaming up had me rolling with laughter as well as Zari coughing up a hair ball.

PUPPETS. OF. TOMORROW! (Make it a show head honchos at the CW!)

John and Dez tugged at the heart strings from start to finish. Dez' new face might need some work though, Neron is creepy af!

Zari said Amaya/Charlie was hot and that was one of the least interesting things that happened tonight. That's how awesomely crazy this episode was.

Oh, lastly Mick and Ava bonding is gonna make Sara so happy. As Ray once said "Happy captain, happy ship".

Why oh why did they push this show back to freaking April?! What am I gonna watch on Mondays instead?

  19. Shallow moment: oh my goodness Caity Lotz looked amazing in that office hookup scene!

Ehem...on to the rest of the episode:

    - Mona started the episode annoying me but you know what? I think I like her now

    - Ava and Nora bonding was sweet and lmao at Ray creeping on girls time at the bureau. I would also like a scene of Ava and Nora watching HGTV please and thank Legends writers. Mona can be there too if she brings wine.

    - They handled the Nate/Amaya/Charlie stuff really well too (Maisie Sellers is really good at accents) and I know it's because of real life issues but I'll kinda miss seeing Nate regularly on the Waverider.

    - Gideon cracked me up with her constant reminders that she too, is part of the team.

    - I was waiting for Sara to punch Hank but Hemingway will do.

    - All the play on words tonight from Constantine and Mick just reaffirmed how awesome this show is. Never change Legends, never change.

  20. So many meta moments and pop culture references but what makes this show so wonderful is the character beats. The writers not only know their Legends but they also know how to write for an ensemble.

They should give a TED talk because a LOT of shows would benefit from learning how to write fully developed characters and great storylines without compromising said characters.
