  1. The new Dr. Rule Breaker wasn’t in this episode at all and I didn’t notice Maggie either (probably because helicopter man didn’t have a patient to drop off). ‘Looks Ike next week is a Dr. Rule Breaker episode though. I am not looking forward to it unless she finally gets fired during it.
  2. In the common law of many countries, there is no general duty to come to the rescue of another. Generally, a person cannot be held liable for doing nothing while another person is in peril. That being said, Good Samaritan laws are in place in all states to encourage people to help others in the case of emergency medical situations where trained rescue personnel have yet to arrive. Good samaritan laws protect people from civil liability for injuries when an attempt has been made to aid someone needing medical attention. So Thony telling the Social Worker she would be in deep s*** for helping Thony is just not true. However, depending on state laws, certain professionals, such as doctors and firefighters, may have a duty to rescue even if off duty. Thony is not recognized as a doc in the US, so technically she has no Dufy of Care either, though there are several real life incidents where a medical professional from another country feels it is their duty to help no matter what, especially given the oath they take.
  3. I’m getting really sick of Shaun in general. He has this great memory yet conveniently forgets times when he was wrong or needed advice or help. The original Korean version is much better and the autistic doctor is way more likeable. Shaun always looks like he just ate something rotten and constantly looks down on everyone else. They have never helped him to accept his own weaknesses and when someone else might be right. With all that Glassman has done for him, basically raising him and getting him a job, he is quick to always put the blame on Glassman. Glassman was right about Shaun ratting out his medical condition. There are HIPAA issues and he should have gone to Glassman first instead of telling everyone else. So far I am not a Charlie fan. She is capable of staying quiet, despite her autism, and she needs to learn to keep her mouth shut. I can see lots of HIPAA violations from her and perhaps telling a patient the absolute worst case scenario as a given when it is rare and unlikely to happen.
  4. Thanks - I can’t remember the Cory episode very well. I may have to re-watch. I did notice the they used Dorothy the most this season. I like her personality and she has a lot of empathy for the hoarders as well as their loved ones. Sometimes though you need a Cory to just be firm and direct, especially with the most stubborn hoarders. I don’t think Matt spent the night in any houses this season. It’s always interesting to see it from his viewpoint in there in the dark on his own (well, with a camera person). Most of these homes I wouldn’t be able to spend 5 minutes in alone, never mind overnight.
  5. The opening aerial shot of the home showed I think 3 shed-type buildings. Not sure if they belong to Coral, but I didn’t see any other houses near them. If they are hers, I’m guessing they are fully hoarded out. They have a habit of never showing all the rooms in the house at the end so I suspect a lot of the hoarders have rooms just full of boxes that they fully intend to get to later (yeah right). 🙄 I’m not as big a fan of the Canadian version. The “experts” don’t seem to have much personality and aren’t as involved as Dorothy, Dr. Z (bee stung looking face and all), Matt and Cory. I don’t think we saw Cory this season though. He can be a bit of an a**, but he isn’t afraid to be very direct with the hoarders and their friends/family.
  6. Yes, which is why I said they planned to use this season to show his backstory. They filmed this in June and he passed on January 4th. The various strikes also caused them to have to alter their original plans. I am not a fan of the female FBI character (who I always think of as Bonnie in “How to get Away With Murder” and can’t see her as anything else). She is not believable in this role. They killed off Garett last season so that got rid of the romantic triangle angle that seemed to appear a bit in a few episodes with Garett, Thony and Arman. Now without Adan, they will have to find another love interest for Thony because shows like this have to have the lead tangled up in some kind of romantic mess. I’m wondering if it will be the male cartel character we saw who works for Sin Cara. Someone is going to have to help her continue to get meds for her son because of course she won’t go back to the Philippines where the meds are legal and where she can work as a doctor.
  7. Arman was my favorite character on the show. When I heard Adan passed, I wondered how they were going to carry on with the show as he had such a central role. Looks like they brought in Kate del Castillo to try to fill the gap to some degree, but I don’t see it working. The producers admitted that the show was already having some issues due to the various entertainment industry strikes. They wanted to show more of Arman’s background and how he got where he was even before Adan passed and I think they are trying to stick with some of that this season, which is why he wasn’t killed off on the show immediately this season and we are left to think he is quite possibly alive but hiding from or maybe having been taken by rivals of his aunt’s cartel. No matter what they manage to bandage together this season, I don’t see it getting renewed. They are probably regretting killing off Garret/Oliver Hudson’s character at this point. It would have left them more options had he survived.
  8. I couldn’t stand Gabby and was so glad she left. However, in the show she is on now, Hightown, she is just as annoying. The characters she plays in each show are all about themselves and don’t care what happens to others, even those who go out of their way to help them or are at their beck and call. This is the last season of Hightown, so I wonder if she will get another project and if the character will have the same abhorrent personality. She may be type cast at this point as she really does not seem to have much acting range or ability at all and it is horribly noticeable as on both shows she is with other actors who are far more talented and they act circles around her.
  9. It’s likely they came from Indiana or possibly Wisconsin or Iowa. The husband said that their local hospital sent them home for everything to pass naturally as they felt they could not interfere due to the laws there. However, the wife kept getting worse. He said they called the local hospital several times and they kept saying it “wasn’t a medical emergency” so he stated they got in the car and he drove her to Chicago which is where the wife grew up. No rural hospital is going to call in a medivac for a procedure they state as non-emergent or that relates to a condition that they are afraid will cost them their jobs and licenses due to state laws. Medivac is also horribly expensive and if they deemed it non-emergent, insurance likely wouldn’t pay a dime and/or Medivac would refuse to transport in the first place.
  10. True, but I hate the Stella character, her neediness, her constant desire to dictate his career to him because she has to be glued to him 24/7, etc. If Taylor wants to leave the show, I hope they get rid of her as well. She is becoming more Dawson like every season. I think it’s time for a big break up on the show and breaking them up would add a nice change to their story line. The problem is Severide is so laid back and mellow he never calls her out on her BS like the “Girls on Fire” ghosting.
  11. I said the same thing. It looks like she walked into a bee hive. I am deathly allergic to stings from bees, wasps, hornets, etc. and I have to keep an epi pen on me all the time especially as I live in CA where they are around pretty much all year. I wanted to give Dr. Z my epi pen hoping it would cure the mess that they made of her face with the filler, Botox and collagen.
  12. Iris had a whole life with Milo in New York long before she came across Mike because Milo brought her out specifically to go after Mike as Milo kept saying how intimidating, manipulative, etc. Iris could be in her own right. Milo is considerably more violent and sadistic than Mike is, so there’s no way she didn’t get a good education on violence from Milo. Iris is often referred to as Milo’s “girl” when they were in New York and the other women working for him seem pretty jealous of this. We’ve seen her try to go after the other girls before - something I’m sure she must have done often enough to keep her status as Milo’s “main girl.” She certainly doesn’t seem to be afraid of any of them. Iris admitted to liking the life she had in New York and that she misses it, even if, as Milo reminded her, it wasn’t real. She liked the power and control of the long cons where she could almost believe she really was the girlfriend/mistress of someone rich and powerful and the fact that Milo favored her enough to give her those jobs. I also don’t doubt that Iris had to get violent with, and possibly kill, some of the men Milo set her up with, especially if they found out what she was up to. She certainly seemed capable of it from the beginning and doesn’t seem scared by it - being around Milo and his crew probably desensitized her to a lot. She certainly didn’t hesitate to take out Joseph. I think the nostalgia for her New York life and the fantasy, as well as the power and control she had over those men, is one of the reasons she voluntarily returned to Milo. She felt more powerful knowing what she or Milo could do to any of the men she became “involved” with and had seen first hand that Milo was brutally violent and that gave her some sense of safety and security, even if Milo may have turned the violence on Iris on occasion- though it seems Milo is never the one physically abusing Iris directly and seems to typically be a third party. Milo likes to screw with her head. He keeps reminding her how her current situation is beneath her and how she was so great at her job in New York. Given Milo’s reputation and Iris’ long history with him, I’m sure she saw far more horribly violent things when she was around him - things he did to his own men, his enemies and the men she helped him set up. She probably acquired quite a few skills from Milo. Mike was only violent around her while trying to save or protect her stupid ass. I think Iris has shown that she’s capable of doing just about anything depending on the situation and this behavior was ingrained in her long before Mike, especially as her survival often depended on it. She seems to be fairly comfortable with violence - especially as she knows what often happens to the men Milo sends her after, and what could happen to Mike. She constantly puts him in danger and doesn’t think twice about what may happen to him. She had to have known Mike would try to find her when she went back to Milo and she knew it could very likely cost Mike his life. I just knew the bonds were going to be used to rescue Iris. Since Mike was busy taking care of the AB last episode, he didn’t even know Iris had been found and definitely hadn’t had a chance to see her or speak with her to see if she even really wants out. She’s had chances to leave Milo but voluntarily went back. If she wanted him dead or locked back up, all she had to do was tell Mike and the FBI that he was hiding out in the church when they were trying to put her in witness protection. I know she’s been with Milo since she was very young and likely has some kind of Stockholm Syndrome when it comes to him, but she did seem to like playing house with Mike for a bit and having a man around who was just there to protect her and take care of her and didn’t want anything physical from her in return (though I think she is definitely interested in Mike that way - I just really hope the show keeps them platonic). Unfortunately it seems like the season may end heavily focused on Iris. I wish Mike would use the bonds to trap Milo - either by sending him back to prison (though he seems to be able to still control a lot from the inside, so they’d have to send him to a SuperMax far, far away or something) or to destroy them and eliminate his savings, which would make things more difficult for him.
  13. Mike knew the AB would be after him after he got into it with the drone guy in the previous episode and told them they couldn’t bring drugs into the prison anymore. He and Kyle also attacked the AB guy in the last episode to warn him to stop using the drones and to stop sending drugs into the prison. He didn’t heed the warning so Mike went after the AB drone guy as a reminder. He knew there would be repercussions for this. The whole point of him going to several bars that had some AB connections was so that someone would get word to the AB and they could come after him. He sealed the deal by sleeping with the wife of one of the AB guys who was killed during the riot and knew she would call the AB and let them know his whereabouts. He was prepared for the AB guy following him in the car. He ducked into the one non-AB affiliated bar that he stopped at earlier (but that he had a relationship with the previous owner so he knew about the safe and figured he could trust the former owner’s granddaughter) to get his gun back as he knew he would have to kill the AB guy as he was trying to kill Mike. I really hope the last episodes are not about trying to rescue Iris from her own stupidity yet again. Mike needs to stop risking everything for some dumb girl who doesn’t want to be saved. I’m hoping they focus more on Milo and him trying to get his bonds back and they leave Iris out of it, though I could see Mike trying to make her release part of the deal with Milo for the bonds. This would be unfortunate as, unless Milo dies, Iris seems to be set on continuing to go back to him and that life.
  14. It was Goodfellas. Ray Liotta’s character Henry Hill (based on a real life person) narrates the movie and that scene in particular is memorable as he is telling the audience how prison is different for wise guys - they get to eat their own food, have wine/booze brought in, etc. He says that except for missing their families, it really wasn’t so bad. They show the guards carrying in sacks of gourmet items for them to cook in their private kitchen and Paul Sorvino’s character is slicing garlic very thin with a razor blade (something the guard in this show also mentioned). I have no idea where this show is headed this season. I hope Iris is out of it by the end - her character has really gotten a down graded role, though now that Kyle has found her the last episodes may be all about yet another rescue of her, which would be totally boring especially as she voluntarily went back to Milo and her old life. She went back to the man that sold her to another gang and they raped and brutalized her. She was supposedly terrified of Milo finding her and didn’t want witness protection as she felt she couldn’t trust them. If she knew right where he was all this time, why not just tell Mike and the FBI and let them take care of him? It’s really tough to buy her story. I don’t know what Ian is setting up with serial killer guy (who I just realized is the actor who played Lem in The Shield) and I guess I’m a bit curious about that.
  15. She was Chinese. They said her last name was Chow when they arrested her and referenced the Anti-Miscegenation Act. The Anti-Miscegenation Act of 1909 made it illegal for caucasians to marry African Americans, Chinese, or Japanese, and penalized those who performed such marriages. It didn’t apply to Native Americans, though that was still looked down upon. I was also not a fan of the finale and knew Alex wanting to be seen in her pretty, over the top dress was going to cause more problems for Spencer (also, white really isn’t her color). Does she have any idea that a dress like that will be useless on the ranch? She is forever doing things and making choices that negatively impact Spencer. Can’t he see she would be a disaster and cause unimaginable problems if she got anywhere near Montana? I wish he would have just shrugged his shoulders and said “okay, whatever” when they told him she couldn’t go with him ashore. I was seriously hoping that the season would end with Spencer at least getting home and then next season (assuming we get one set in the same time period) would be about the land war. I thought the seasickness references were hinting at Alex being pregnant as well, especially when they made a point of her noting that she had never had it that badly before. I really liked Jack this episode. He is showing wisdom beyond his years and the way he treated Elizabeth was so sweet. He picked up a lot from Cara, I think. I’m beyond tired of the show’s need to drive home the misogyny. There is no need for any more whipping scenes - we definitely already know Whitfield is a sadist who likes power and submission. I would have hoped they would have used Timothy Dalton in a better way.
  16. Even with very little Alex in this episode, every line she had was insufferable as was her treatment of Spencer. It’s probably unlikely, but I’m hoping that being around her family and former fiancé and all that wealth and those fabulous luxuries, like indoor plumbing, traveling through Europe and enjoying fine cuisine, high fashion, etc. make her realize that while her little “adventure” with Spencer had been fun and she got some good “ravaging” in, she really can’t give up the life to which she was born to and accustomed. If she makes it to Montana, I would love to see her pull that stunt with raising her glass up for refills without saying please or thank you that she pulled with treating the boat captain like a servant of some sort on Cara. I have a feeling Alex would end up having whatever was being served dumped all over her (and her forever pristine clothes) and Cara would have some choice words for the spoiled brat. I do hope that whatever spell she cast on Spencer wears off very quickly when they get stateside, though she will probably be pregnant and even if he was starting to lose interest in her, I don’t see him as the type to abandon a woman carrying his child. This would be completely fine for me as well: Regarding the nudity and how the women were treated by Whitfield, I agree that the female nudity has been on the gratuitous and heavy handed side this season. I think we’ve seen women naked in every episode. I’m no prude and when it serves a purpose, fine, but most of the scenes with the nudity would have been just as effective without it, particularly as it is so imbalanced between the men and women. It seems so odd to see a man still nearly fully clothed and women naked in sex scenes, but it’s a show made by a man so he doesn’t understand or doesn’t like the idea of being either a bit more balanced or a bit more subtle. Also, no shocker that Whitfield is a sadist. His a rich man who wants the Dutton’s land to mine into oblivion and become even richer at any cost, including hiring a thug like Creighton to do it by any means possible. Having such a lengthy scene of him abusing those women wasn’t totally necessary to show us that his character is an ass who likes violence and having people submit to him. It could have been done in a more nuanced way and in less time.
  17. When Mike first went to see Bunny in prison, Bunny told him that he moved the marker off of Mike and transferred it. Mike kept asking Bunny who he transferred it to and Bunny refused to answer. Bunny did say that he made it easier for Mike to do his “mayor thing” and get him out. Bunny had the hit transferred to the DA. With the DA dead, an acting DA will most likely be put in place, probably Evelyn, before they can elect a new permanent DA. Regardless of who takes over as DA in the interim, they will likely have a good idea that the predecessor was killed for not keeping his deal with the generals and likely let them out to avoid the same fate.
  18. I agree. One scene that stands out to me in this episode where she clearly demonstrates her entitled behavior is when the captain of the ship that rescues them offers them a drink. Spencer drinks his one glass and Alex repeatedly downs hers and then just holds her glass up above her shoulder with her back to the captain just expecting a refill. She does this more than once. Not once does she bother to so much as look at him, ask “mind if I have another?” or ever even say “thank you.” She treated the captain of the ship that saved her incapable, reckless, self absorbed behind worse than a hotel waiter. I have seen plenty of wealthy characters at least have manners and show themselves to be useful in a crisis. She isn’t even capable of following basic instructions from the expert in dangerous situations, the man she supposedly loves, and nearly gets them killed more than once. Her clothes never look dirty, and she sure seems to like her silk nighties and camisoles, especially as she repeatedly asks Spencer to “ravish her” and seems to think life is just one long holiday full of sex on the beach. I wouldn’t be surprised if she gets angry at Spencer for dragging her off to the ranch (which lacks luxuries that she thinks are necessities, is shocked that everyone in the family pitches in - it’s not just cowboys and servants doing the work) instead of taking her on a proper honeymoon full of more “ravaging” in some pristine locale, never mind that she essentially had her honeymoon before the marriage but she still clearly didn’t want Spencer to be working as it took his focus off of her.
  19. Based on Alexandra being fairly shocked that there was no electricity at the ranch, and even worse, no indoor plumbing, I don’t see her lasting too long there. She has annoyed me from the start and her spoiled, entitled upbringing show up in some form or another in every episode. When they were up in the tree with the lion and she kept screaming I was so wishing Spencer would slap her to calm her down (not advocating violence against women, just something to get her out of her state of shock and calm down/STFU). She was just as awful in this episode when they were stuck on the overturned tug boat. She nearly got Spencer killed because she decided to try and help? Why did she get in the water when he told her to stay put? She is positively useless in a crisis - how is she going to help in the “war for the ranch?” I’m sure she’ll spend most of her time trying to decide what one would wear to a battle over land and what would match the carriage best and no doubt she’ll be ticked that she won’t get Spencer’s complete undivided attention - unless he doesn’t fight, in which case, what good is he? Do they make it back to the Yellowstone with Alex very close to giving to birth and then she either decides she can’t handle “roughing it” and leaves or perhaps she has the kid and they both get killed right away as Spencer is stupidly trying to look after her and her appalling lack of awareness about anything but herself? Given that the other women in Spencer’s life were strong and knew how to handle themselves under pressure even better than most of the men, him being with this “delicate flower” who will be useless in all aspects of ranch life (I doubt she can even light the stove or boil water) just doesn’t seem to bode well for a long lasting or happy relationship.
  20. Posted in wrong week - moved to Ep. 6
  21. In flashbacks they show him operating a machine gun in the heat of battle. I don’t know that they defined his role so specifically, just that he seemed to be a good shot, knew his way around weapons, good under pressure, good leader, etc. Basically your all around “war hero” who is now understandably troubled by what he experienced.
  22. They mentioned at one point it was in the Dakotas. When the priest was told that Teonna was going home, he said there is no way she would make the 400 miles home, especially having to go through the Badlands. The Badlands are about 550 miles from Bozeman, MT (roughly the same as the distance to Yellowstone National Park), but that is using today’s roads and going around a lot rather than going through, like Keonna seemed to be doing. I don’t get the appeal of Spencer. The mustache kind of ruins it as does the stereotypical broody war hero who tried to run from his demons and then meets the clichéd rebellious rich girl who wants to be fiercely independent (though with a man by her side) to prove something to her family. The whole thing is a bit too stereotypical and predictable for me. I want to see what Spencer can do when he’s back on the ranch. I hope there’s not a period of him retreating into some kind of PTSD from the war and have to be reminded by his family why they need to fight so hard to keep all that land, as we are constantly reminded of every week. That land is everything to the Duttons, and with so few of them you wonder a bit why they are obsessed with having so much of it. They claim they keep it safe, but it belonged to the Rainwaters before the Duttons even knew it existed.
  23. I think that once Conrad finds out Cade lied to him yet again, this time about her father as Conrad already had concerns about him and those concerns were largely dismissed by Cade, and Conrad realizes the extent to which Ian was endangering lives whilst operating on Benzos and who knows what else, he will at least want a break from her. He certainly can’t trust her at this point. During the break between them and he once learns the full details about Cades’s “girl time,” which was to actually see Ian in rehab, he will feel even more deceived by her yet again and the mistrust will grow. After he actually kissed Billie, Cade’s lies are likely to just push him more towards Billie. Again, I don’t think Billie is without flaws either, but at this point, unless someone new (and preferably outside of the hospital - however unlikely) is introduced as Conrad’s new love interest, I think he’s better off with Billie than with Cade and Billie seems much more natural with Gigi than Cade does as well.
  24. As a CA resident for over 15 years, our property tax is initially capped at 1% of the purchase price of the home. However, it can certainly increase whenever they re-assess your property’s value for a variety of reasons. It also allows increases for things like schools, lighting maintenance, emergency services, etc. That being said, property tax is the most reasonable tax in CA, especially as most major cities pay nearly 10% sales tax. I now split my time between southern CA and the Bay Area but lived in southern CA longer, and the Santa Ana winds are a huge fire issue, but I’ve never really heard any mention of them being known for making people crazy. I moved to the state when fire season was particularly bad and I got a call from the automated emergency services system telling me I needed to evacuate at 2am. I had been living here less than a month and it was my first experience with Santa Ana fire conditions. I loaded up what I thought was critical into my car and the smoke was so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face and ash was falling everywhere. This tiny fire they put out on the show under what they claimed were prime Santa Ana conditions went out way too easy. In conditions like that, the fires grow and spread extremely quickly yet just a small group was able to put this one out completely and rapidly. It just isn’t very realistic and if they’re doing a whole show about Santa Ana winds, they really should try to be a bit more accurate. Not necessarily. It isn’t the clinic’s responsibility to sort out the legal details in a directed donation. It also may have been an OB/GYN office that Buck went to. They never specified, but that is more likely with a direct, specified donation and the OB/GYN’s office isn’t responsible for making sure any paperwork related to parental rights and responsibility is completed. For all they know, some kind of co-parenting agreement may have been made by the parties involved. As Buck is buying onesies for his bio-kid, I have a feeling the couple he is donating to didn’t take him to a lawyer’s office to clarify parental rights.
  25. These days hospitals call in security if you even raise your voice. No way they would have been able to access the operating theaters as every hospital I’ve been in has them pretty tightly secured. I prefer Conrad and Billie over Conrad and Cade. Cade is dishonest and has been forever (which is not to say that Billie is issue free). There is also poor chemistry between the two of them and Cade comes across as fairly stiff with Gigi. It would be nice, and more interesting, if they gave Conrad a love interest totally outside the hospital, but I guess that would be less convenient for the writers.
