  1. My favorite part was when Bhanu was saying that he can't lie, that he is not an actor.  His IMDb page tells a different story:

    Quote

Bhanu Gopal, a skilled actor and dancer from Visakhapatnam, India, has made waves in the industry since moving to the United States in 2013. With a background in Indian Classical dance, Bhanu has showcased his talent on both the stage and on screen. Notable achievements include roles in award-winning films like, Shuffled (2022), Men In Blue (2022), Smack-man Resurrected (2023) and appearances in commercials, such as the memorable AAA Insurance commercial featuring Rick Astley. Bhanu's dedication and commitment to his craft makes him a rising star in the world of acting.

I’m thinking there I’ll be a “drop your buffs” thing next week, and we’ll wind up with three tribes of five. There should be clauses for stuff like what happened with Randan. We could’ve gotten two tribes of seven, but Vanu had to slide off the hook. If any of them win, would we apply an asterisk to them?

That may be why they didn't have a TC - they needed to have 15 people for next week so they could change them to 3 teams of 5.  Challenges/rewards based on 3 teams of 5, may not work with 2 teams of 7.

Does anyone actually eat modeling chocolate? It seems like it's usually used to make "sculptures" that are theoretically edible but....

I just don't think it is a good addition to the top of a dessert. From what I saw nobody ate the tops of Thoa's whoopie pies.

I made a cake for my grandson's birthday and used modeling chocolate.  It is pretty easy to make - I used candy melts and corn syrup, and the modeling chocolate tasted like the candy melts (corn syrup has very little flavor).  The kids loved it.

You can also make it with chocolate and corn syrup, and it tastes like chocolate. Candy melts are easier to work with.

Modeling chocolate is vastly different from fondant.  Supposedly, you can use modeling chocolate to cover a cake, like you would with fondant, but I would think it would be more difficult to slice.

  4. This show is so unimportant to me that I just finished watching this season, 4 months after the Season Finale aired. I am basically watching because I always feel obligated to finish what I started (it is sort of more hate-watching at this point).

There are a lot of complaints about they way they totally re-wrote the character of David.  I agree.

Heck, I am still complaining about Jackie's child disappearing.

If they want to shake up how the judging works, then maybe the decoys should be more akin to the themes the bakers have to pick from at the start. So instead of saying "You have to find the basketball shoe that is cake" the decoys are various types of shoes, and the judges have to pick the one that is cake. Or various basketball related items (a basketball shoe, a basketball, maybe a gatorade bottle) and they have to pick from that.

Or have the decoys all be basketball shoes but different colors and styles.

I'm okay that they stage the decoys a little bit. The only thing I think should be prohibited is staging the decoys to look fake.

I think they shouldn't be able to change the decoys (staging or placing them in a certain way is okay with me, as long as they don't do something that makes them look fake).  For example, Spirit shouldn't have been allowed to paint all her decoys.  That said, I was okay with Spirit painting all of them because they were all the exact same shade of blue - a shade she couldn't match.  The decoys should have been different colors to begin with.

Maybe the contestants should be able to see what the decoys look like before they choose which copy to copy.

  6. I am fine without the audience at the reunion.  Jeff taking comments/questions from the audience and talking to family members was not a good use of reunion time to me.  However, I miss seeing what they look like once they had time to get back to looking their "normal," which, for most of them, is not the same as they look after a hot shower and sleeping a real bed.

Then again, some of the jury was only living on the beach for around 2 weeks (not sure how the timeline works with the shorter season - the standard used to be tribal every 3 days), and they don't seem to be quite as starving, so the change probably isn't as much.

With all of Carson’s preparation for playing Survivor … he didn’t  practice/nail making fires???   Yeah … I don’t believe it.

I believe Carson said that he practiced at home and was able to make fire in 3 minutes, but it wasn't working on the island and he lost his confidence.

I thought it was interesting that Carson mentioned, more than once, how Heidi made her fire in the fastest time ever in a final tribal.  I felt like he was trying to make himself feel better about losing.  He wasn't far behind her and, if he had been making fire against a previous final-tribal-fire-maker, he may have won.

  8. I enjoyed this season as I have enjoyed all the others.  However, I did get to the point where I would start the episode wondering who would complain of being tired this week, and what would be the cause.

Lucille was tired - she was depressed

Reggie was tired - he had trouble with his thyroid

Newspaper boy was tired - he was anemic because he has leukemia

Sister MJ was tired - she had hepatitis

I find the name Honey Bunchies way too close to Honey Bunches of Oats.  And, like others, I don't care for honey so that is an immediate 'no' for me.

My first thought upon hearing the name is "they are going to hear from the people who make the cereal."

They have changed their name to Bon Bee, but, according to their website, it wasn't because of the name being too close to the cereal's name ...

Back in 2020 we gave our packaging a facelift. In 2021 we introduced our second flavor, Coconut Almond! Most recently, our family decided that our Gourmet Honey Bars could use a name that will grow along with them. That's why in April 2023 we became Bon Bee™ Honey!

  10. During the earthquake, Marina told the kids to get under the table, when the kids were eating outside. I couldn’t decide if that was supposed to be funny.

I can see the humor in telling them to go under the table when nothing was going to fall on them.

On the other hand, they were trying to show how prepared  and in charge Marina  was. If they wanted to make that point though, they should’ve had Marina tell the kids to stay outside and keep away from the windows

I know last season there were a few moments that struck me as unrealistic (Janine climbing the ladder to fix the light, blowing up the fuse box, the lengthy lunch breaks), but I had a hard time with the number of students who needed to use the restroom after an additional 2 ounces of juice….enough to break all the toilets in the school?  When I saw the preview, I thought the toilet problem was caused by something else.

I know it is just a tv show, and you have to ignore illogical things sometimes, but this episode was too far removed from reality.  Kids are not going to have to go to the bathroom multiple times all afternoon because of 2 extra ounces of healthier juice.  So they must have drank a lot of juice because it was so tasty - but where did the school get all that additional juice?  They would have ordered juice based on prior amounts of juice, so maybe this was supposed to be all the juice for the week, but then why would the cafeteria workers put out juice meant for another day.  And how come it takes weeks, even months for anything to change at the school, but they can get a different type of juice the next day.  They made it seem like the drinking fountain was now dispensing juice.

And it makes no sense that all the toilets broke.  And who cleans Ava secret bathroom? While I can see how Kindergarten might be able to sick with the old juice, since they probably have a different lunch time/area, why weren't Melissa's kids using the bathroom excessively?  Why was it only Gregory's and Janine"s classes?

I'll be honest, I absolutely hated the stupid fight on the Kelly and Ryan show. Connor and Tom are grown men, one a successful author and one a super successful businessman, and they acted like idiotic, immature brats on live TV. So stupid.

I agree.  I could accept having them bicker, but actually rolling around on the floor fighting was too over the top. And I thought they way Marina acted was ridiculous, especially when she started running her fingers through Kelly's hair.

Plus, isn't Marina working?  How has she seen every episode of Kelly and Ryan?  She has three kids and not enough time to stream the show.

For the recent episode I was hopeful she would actually use some color since the basis of the renovation was that beautiful turquoise room.  But nope, pretty much all white like all of her other designs.  Which is why I quit watching for the most part.  It is too much the same every time.

This show is very repetitive.  Not just because she paints the walls white.  It seems like almost every house starts off with a large corner tub, a too small shower, and a two tiered counter, and ends up with white walls, brass hardware, and a free standing tub, a large shower, and (more recently) tile with uneven edges that isn't sealed and has to be soaked in water before applying.

That said, I like the show, but I am not really sure why. I think is makes a good background show, perhaps because of the banter between Jenn and all the regulars.

  14. I am late to this show.  Watching it mostly as background noise. I think I am on the second episode of the second season.  Jenn is talkative, but likeable.  The show moves at a nice pace.  I was thinking that this show could be a good drinking game -

    - one sip every time the homeowner has a two-level counter (is this a Texas thing? I don't think I have ever seen one in real life).

    - two sips every time Jenn puts brass hardware on a cabinet

    - three sips every time she wallpapers a ceiling.

  15. If I were Hai, I would have been singing "I get to sleep in a warm bed, I get to sleep in a warm bed, ..." all the way to Ponderosa.

I can't imagine how horrible it would be to be that cold and wet for so long.

  16. Yes, Kat is a grown woman and she can have sex with whomever she wants.  Nick can buy whatever building he wants too.  If he is taking advantage of her, then she is letting him do it (if I were Kat, I would have threatened to report him for the illegal beer selling and illegal curb painting the moment he tried to steal/undercut my business).

So, technically, he isn't controlling/using her.  However, since Nick is a douche and Kat acts like a 15-year-old, it feels like he is controlling/using her.

  17. I liked the finale.  Seemed rushed and not necessarily good decision making on Dre's part (probably a bad time to quit his job).

But, as I watched this episode, I wondered why we didn't get to see this grown-up version of Dre more often instead of the man-baby he was in so many episodes.

I'm betting it was $8 million in sales, not profit.

    From https://www.inventorsdigest.com/articles/kids-fun-on-the-go/ :

My husband, Brandon, and I have been sellers on Amazon since 2009. It was the Wild West time of Amazon, when they recently opened the marketplace to products other than books.

We started selling small home and kitchen goods as a side gig in hopes it would become a full-time job for us. We lived in a tiny, one-bedroom apartment in Green Lake, Washington, about a 10-minute drive from downtown Seattle. We lined our apartment walls with shelving to house our product and used our bedroom as a shipping station. Our bed was in place of the dining table.

In 2011, we quit our other jobs (interior design and pressure washing) and moved to Renton, Washington, and bought our first home—which is where we still live—to do this full time. By 2015, we were doing over $1 million in sales annually on Amazon. This continued and we thrived until 2018 when Amazon Basics launched, and the market became oversaturated with sellers and duplicate listings.

Thank you!  I did some snooping around the internet and all I kept coming up with was that they stopped when Amazon Basics started.

  19. They finally show us Dave working then they have him (probably) change jobs.  Do they have storylines in mind with him working with the VA? Otherwise, if they aren't going to have plots involving Dave's job, why bother having him switch jobs?

When Tariq said he was a feminist that's why he let Janine pay for everything I wanted him gone. The scene with Kenny was so good because you could see Janine becoming brave enough to dump him.

I think the writers were hoping some might also wonder if Janine was becoming brave enough to leave Philly and move to NYC.

Like others, I am glad they didn't try to make this some sort of "Will she stay or will she go?" cliffhanger.  Quinta Brunson (Janine) is the show's creator, so there was no way Janine would be off the show.

I am surprised that they didn't have Tariq and Janine try dating long distance for a few episodes (next season) and get a few more storylines out o the relationship before the break-up. They'd only be about 2 hours apart and they both have weekends off.

My only nitpick about this show is that some of the quips are spoken/mumbled so fast, I don't know what was said.  Ava is especially guilty of this.

I said the same thing about the actors on Grand Crew, although I haven't heard if that show will be renewed.

I agree.  I have to use subtitles for most of what Ava says, because she talks way too fast for me.  My kids are fast talkers sometimes and I remind them that my ears are too old to listen that fast.

  23. I am not too worried about the potential for a break-up between Kat and Oscar.  They had Kat be attracted to the obnoxious sandwich guy who was flirting with her while also kind-of sabotaging her business, I thought he might become an ongoing plot/character, but they haven't mentioned him since.  This show doesn't' seem to be too invested in continuity.

  24. I like Oscar, but as a character in a sitcom, there is not much there.  He is always extra in the scene, not necessary.  His character isn't fleshed out enough. We know more about Nick than we do about Oscar.   All we know about Oscar is that he is really into efficiency (although that only seemed to be for that one episode).  The whole purpose of his character seems to be so Kat has a boyfriend - that way, every once in a while, they can have a "Does Kat stay with Oscar or go with this other guy?" story line.  They don't really have a relationship. All the relationship stories are about Randi and Carter.

3 hours ago, Yeah No said:

My hope is that he's going to be used as a foil for Max and Oscar for a while until that gets played out and then just calm down and become the weird guy next door.  I'm hoping he's not a fixture every week.  I somehow doubt that but with this show you never know.

I was hoping that all his lawbreaking - illegal cheese, painting the curb, selling alcohol, etc - would catch up with him and he would either leave town or get arrested.  Anything to get him off the show.  I thought it might take two episodes, but now that Kat has a crush on him, he will probably be around for a while.  Ugh!
