  1. I saw that.

I thought the watermelon cubes filled with mascarpone cream and chocolate chips did not look/sound very good. It seemed like an odd combination.

Today, Giada said that cumin was like "a Lebanese bear hug."

Agave is "richer than sugar, less smoky than maple syrup and less floraly than honey."  OK.

I've noticed on FNS that she never asks the contestants to describe the flavors of what they're preparing.

  2. I was also disappointed and frustrated by today's turn of events. I'm growing tired of how quickly these SLs evaporate. At the least, we could have been given a few weeks of Ridge scrambling to regain his memory of Katie. Her frayed red ribbon is beyond ridiculous.

Maybe things will shift towards Quinn and Deacon. That would be much more interesting than the L/H drivel and Ridge's homecoming.

Has TK gained weight or something?  He looked stubby and dumpy in that white attire. His dip in the Persian Gulf didn't make him look any cleaner.

  3. I watched an old episode of the show yesterday and Giada hosted an art lesson party for some friends. One of the dishes she served was chicken fingers. Giada specifically told each guest they could have TWO chicken fingers -- after one guy attempted to take three.

  4. Giada's had that manicure on other episodes. Agree that it's ugly.  I'm sure the deconstructed spring rolls were tasty, but they were extremely unappetizing in appearance.

Giada's sister has the same type of barracuda smile, I noticed, when they were looking at their photos from their trip to Thailand.

    Today's flavor description:

    cardamon = licoricey and lemon-grassy

  5. WHOOT! to anneofcleves.

    Waves Hi to mousie!

I would have been perfectly happy to have seen an entire episode devoted to just the building restoration. That was pretty interesting.

The menu was completely uninspiring. The chili looked meh and no comment on the rest of the food.

I still am mystified by Ree's hair. It looks like it's doubled in volume and shiny and a lovely color. Extensions? New stylist? Product? I'm more interested in that than her recipes. LOL!

  6. Cilantro threw her a curve on her latest show. She struggled and ended up describing its flavor as "herby."

I just read a Huffington Post clip that said at Giada's new restaurant in Vegas that all of the menu items as spelled out phonetically.  YMMV, but LOL!

  7. Funny!  When I read the first part I thought he was writing it as Bill Spencer.

Maybe the Emir of Dubai or the local government is paying B&B to film there.  It's good publicity for them.  I love the locations that they use around LA, especially since most of them belong to the Bell family or CBS.

The rumor is (and I can't vouch for the authenticity) is that KKL signed up to participate in either a triathlon or equestrian event in Dubai and Bell decided to take advantage of her opportunity and wrote a SL around her travels.

  8. That's great news to hear about more people interested in the book club! Once everybody gets their copy of "The Recipe Box," post here and we can get started. I am a book club newbie, so I am not sure what we do. I did some Googling and found some sample questions for discussion, but they seemed too high-brow and ridiculous to apply to SLOP's novel. LOL!  Any ideas?

  9. Today Giada said that parsley tasted "lemony" and like newly-mown grass. O.K. Her mini calzones were basically an assembly job using pre-made pizza dough. Then, she put orzo in her meatball mixture instead of bread or bread crumbs. Her lemony aioli started off with mayo from a jar. Major emphasis on grilling the poor guests about liking the food and guessing the ingredients. It was definitely a "phone it in" show.

  10. Is Ree sporting hair extensions? It seems like this season her hair is longer and fuller and a prettier color. Just wondering. The latest show was deja' vu. Hasn't she made pulled pork, baked beans and coleslaw at least once before? She used canned baked beans and bottled barbecue sauce.

  11. I watched the show today and I've had enough of that ditz Damaris. I see she's gone back to the format of teaching hapless men how to cook.  So far, she hasn't made a single recipe that I've been enticed to try. I also want to gag at how she uses coconut oil in everything. I hate coconut and I don't want my food to taste or smell like it. This is getting to the point where it isn't even worth watching for snark value.

  12. Didn't Ree make that same, or a similar cake, for Pa-Pa's birthday last time?  I thought the use of the cajun seasoning on the tenderloin (I cried), shrimp, vegetables and in the mashed potatoes was overkill. At least she didn't use it to coat the frozen dinner rolls.  I didn't follow the vegetables in the cream-wine sauce. It seemed more like a sauce for the shrimp than a side dish. I also wish we'd seen the prep for Missy's salad. It sounded interesting.

  13. There was a short period of time when Ridge and Donna were dating. I think that's when she took over as the lead model for Brooke's Bedroom. To my knowledge, I don't think the two of them ever slept together. If so, it was off camera.  Others?  Please correct me if I am wrong.

What possessed Hope to show up at Liam's house today? Couldn't she just have easily have picked up the phone and quizzed Liam about where $Bill spent the night?  Not that it's any of their business.

Katie seems to be already lowering the boom on Ridge by suggesting that he and RJ move in with Will and her. This will be interesting to see if her behavior changes with Ridge than it was towards Bill.

  14. The book club wasn't my idea, so I don't want to jump rank here. It seems to me that there has been scattered talk here and there about the "accuriacies" about "Made from Scratch."

I am just making a suggestion and that is all and don't want to offend anybody. Maybe it would be better to have a book club discussion about "The Recipe Box."

I apologize sincerely to Mousie, as this was her idea to begin with and it was an excellent one!  I guess that my enhusiasm and idle time (awaiting hip joint replacement sometime this summer) has made me overly zealous. It gets lonely....

I'm eager to buy in to what ever the group decides.

  15. Let's do the book club!

Mousie, what do you think?  Do you want to do the book club and which book shall we discuss?  I (hangs head in shame) own both books, but I'll need to forage for "Made from Scratch."  I don't want anybody to have to purchase a book that they normally wouldn't buy or be ashamed for checking out at the library (totally understand!)

Lets all discuss further and get rolling.  I've been looking forward to this for quite some time!  Thanks!

  16. I'm deadly serious. First the cookies all spread together, so we decided to dump the mess into a 9" x 13" pan and bake it like a cake. We baked it for two hours and it was still wet and raw in the middle. My boyfriend at the time, who would eat everything and never throw anything away, even threw in the towel. Maybe we misread the recipe.

Another dud is using the packet from macaroni and cheese mix to combine with butter and spread on corn on the cob.  Blecch...

However, one recipe of SLOP's that turned out well and that I like is the one for caramel covered pumpkin seeds. (It was from that one Halloween special that included Tyler Florence.) Yes, you use jarred ice cream sauce, but they really turned out to be quite yummy.

I remember taking it to work and when I told fellow foodies that it was a Sandra Lee recipe, I saw hands slowly recoiling in horror from the serving dish!  LOL!  More for ME later...
