  1. Announced on 21 March 2024: Biden cancels $6 billion in student loan debt for 78,000 public service workers. Bravo! I wonder if John will mention this.
  2. lol is that what the kids are calling it these days?
  3. I don't think the episode where has aired in the USA yet?
  4. @debraran you might want to put spoiler tags on your post?
  5. Wow, some pretty important character stuff there. So sorry they do this to the episodes in the US. In Australia we get the whole thing.
  6. Doreen is played by the wonderful Rosie Jones, a highly successful UK comedian. I saw her last year at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and she was superb.
  7. Further to my previous post, episode 3 was inducted into the Extra Hot Great canon in last week's main podcast, with all the hosts voting for it. Yay!
  8. This was my favourite show of 2023 - I love it so much! At first I wasn't sure about it, but as the episodes went on I fell in love with the characters (including Colin) and was sad when I finished the series. It's so dark and stupid and heartfelt, and Brammall and Dyer are superb. I was really disappointed when Tara Ariano (formerly of TWoP and Primetimer) on the Extra Hot Great podcast said she'd decided not to watch any more after the dog was injured in the first episode because she hates shows where dogs are hurt. I tweeted her to say the dog becomes the hero and she would be missing the best comedy of the year, but she wasn't swayed. 😞
  9. He is such a charming guest! Here is the Kimmel appearance for anyone who hasn't seen it. And he said he's doing a monthly stand-up residency with Seth Meyers at the Beacon Theatre starting on 25 February. I wish I lived in New York so I could go!
  10. Co-creator Ed Zwick has a memoir coming out next month called Hits, Flops, and Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood. Should be a good read.
  11. Leonie Elliott (midwife Lucille) did a reading at the Princess of Wales' annual carol service at Westminster Abbey, which was broadcast in the UK on Christmas Eve and in Australia on Christmas Day. She read a specially commissioned poem by Joseph Coelho, the Children’s Laureate, and it was lovely. If you click on this link you can see some photos of her at the service - she looks stunning and I hardly recognised her out of her nurse's uniform!
  12. Perhaps it's because I didn't grow up knowing who Julia Child was or seeing her in the media (I'm Australian), but I'm loving this series sick. I find Sarah Lancashire's performance mesmerising - especially when she fixes someone with a piercing look after they've said something questionable, and makes them justify their statement. The contrast with her Catherine Cawood in Happy Valley is miraculous. She's like Britain's Meryl Streep. I also thoroughly enjoy David Hyde Pierce, Bebe Neuwirth, Fran Kranz, Fiona Glascott and Brittany Bradford. Fictionalised or not, they're all fabulous characters.
  13. Ugh, I found Simca insufferable in this episode. She was so negative all the time! It was fun having Jacques Brel pop in, though.
  14. Loved this episode. It struck the perfect balance between an important and serious main story and several lighter segments. I cheered when John showed us the metal puteketeke with a miniature John Oliver riding on its back. His pure glee about the whole Bird of the Century saga is delightful to behold 😁
  15. Preach! I wanted to give John and the LWT team a prolonged standing ovation for the main segment. It was outstanding. Edited to add: I really appreciated John not saying 'women' when he was referring to people who can get pregnant. It's a subtle but important recognition of the fact that non-binary and trans people can get pregnant too.
  16. I was enjoying the footage of gambolling lambs and thinking how nice it was that the LWT team had given us something pleasant to look at after the heavy story about homeschooling. And then ... the close-up on a sheep's eye reminded me of the part of the story I had already expunged from my memory. 😟
  17. Oh, how I have missed John Oliver and his blend of puerile humour and outstanding coverage of important issues. It's wonderful to have LWT back!
  18. I loved seeing Maggie Beer back on the show - she is indeed an angel on earth (along with Dolly Parton). So happy to see my favourite win, although I would have been happy with any of them. The finale decorations were gorgeous!
  19. Loved Chocolate Week and I love the final three! No spoilers as @Aulty and others seem to be a week behind what we're seeing in Australia.
  20. Good to see Ollie on the SAG-AFTRA picket line in New York yesterday - the Fug Girls posted this photo of him.
  21. Stephen was on the picket line in New York yesterday, serving Americone Dream ice-cream to the SAG-AFTRA strikers. The Fug Girls posted this gorgeous photo of him.
  22. Agreed. Their comments are very 'samey'. I hope they get better.
  23. Really surprised at the elimination this week. I thought that person would be a finalist for sure!
  24. I'm sorry, what? John (and those of us who agree with him) is standing with Biden's enemies because he makes some valid criticisms? I would have thought that no political figure - not even Uncle Joe - is above criticism. If we can't criticise our politicians, we are living in a dictatorship, surely.
