  1. Maybe the writers were talking about Georgiana Cavendish, the 5th Duchess of Devonshire, an ancestor of the current Duke. She was infamous for her marital arrangements, her catastrophic love affairs, her beauty and sense of style and clothes, her political campaigning and love of gambling. She had an illegitimate daughter fathered by Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey. She also raised her husband's illegitimate daughter, Charlotte, who was conceived with a mistress. So she was definitely a very unconventional and remarkable woman in addition to a great beauty. Keira Knightley played her in the movie "The Duchess."
  2. And I am out. I found this episode really repellent. The Roma are a real and much persecuted people. The show just labelled all of them as practitioners of dark arts. "There's nothing blacker than gypsy magic!" That's straight-up racist. Try replacing "gypsy" with literally any other ethnic group and see how it goes.
  3. Funny, female actors are paired up with male actors, twenty years older, all the time. Tony Goldwyn is 17 years older than Kerry Washington and evereone is gaga over their chemistry. No one is grossed out by that and if they are, then they are in the minority. That is exactly the case.
  4. Good grief Noah! Would you stop whining about how you married young? Yes it's such a tragedy that a beautiful, wonderful, talented and rich girl agreed to marry and then continue to put up with your whiny, self-absorbed ass for twenty odd years. She even makes his sandwiches and offers him morning sex! With this episode, Noah lost whatever little sympathy he had from me. Allison, on the other hand gained some. Obviously everyone around her wants her to move on when she doesn't want to at all. Cole understands to some extent and offers as much support as he's capable of. Maybe it's just Joshua Jackson but I find Cole likeable too. He's hurting too but unlike Allison, he probably finds solace in the outside world, doing his job, being with his family and friends. He's just not as lonely as Allison feels. The mother-in-law on the other hand is totally clueless. Whatever lady, you want grandchildren - ask one of your other sons and not the one or his wife who just lost a kid. P.S - Tommy is the one who's dead again, isn't he? Colin Donnell never seems to get a break.
  5. I thought it was okay and I watched primarily because of Joshua Jackson. The acting was good across the board but I didn't really feel any overwhelming chemistry between Wilson and West. So it's a bit difficult for me to see why these two people would have an affair which could destroy their lives. I can understand to some extent why Allison might, given that she was practically drowning in her grief yet no one around her seemed to care enough. Maybe instead of true love or some such BS, the affair would be just the case of two lonely, unhappy people grabbing onto each other. At least I hope that would be the case. I am really intrigued by the "he said/she said" format. Yes, it is a little gimmicky but it managed to pique my interest. And I also want to know more about the police investigation - as long as Jackson isn't the dead guy. West's kids are horrible but again, how much of their behavior was real and how much was it just West's unhappiness coloring his memories? Although, whatever his eldest son seemed to be going through did look real - that stunt with the harness couldn't possible have been made up by Noah. From what I could tell, he used to a good kid all around but something happened in the past year to turn him into an angry, insolent and callous kid who could think that scaring his dad half to death was a good idea. I am tempted to make a horrible speculation but I really hope that isn't the case.
  6. Logan Echolls 2.0? lol Frankly, I am looking forward to seeing Mr. Sark back on my screen on a weekly basis after such a long time.
  7. BRING BACK HOT MERCENARY!!! (Caps are so needed here) Phew, now that that is out of my system, what the hell did I just watch? I think I'm done until he shows up again. Thank you.
  8. I think this is the point. The President decides how much power a CoS has. IMO, the reason Russell Jackson gets away with what he does is because everyone understands that he has the President's implicit backing. He is the President's dragon (thank you TVtrope), the one who does all the dirty work so that the President can remain the good guy. For example, he says no to Elizabeth's face about sending troops to Yemen, so that the President doesn't have to even though everyone including Elizabeth understands that the President is saying no. Likewise, the President magnanimously thanks Bishop for a job well done and then Jackson gets rid of him (sort of rudely) so that the President doesn't have to. Just give me the time and place and I'll be there. They won't even have to hold me down. LOL. My hair is so stubbornly straight that nothing has ever been able to add the slightest hint of wave to it. I always look like the creepy ghost girl from all those Japanese horror movies like "The Ring". The sad thing is that Blackwater isn't even the worst of them out there. There are others who have committed even worse human rights violations. I am ambivalent to use the "this is just a tv show" defense but I really want to see Bishop again(the hotness is too strong to resist). So for me, as long as the show makes him a completely different person than Eric Prince, I'll be okay.
  9. I hesitate to comment on this topic because all my not-so-real political knowledge comes courtesy of The West Wing. So I googled powers of CoS and came across dozens of articles about how powerful a CoS is - some writers even went as far as to say that he/she is more powerful than the VP. http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2013/01/obamas-chief-of-staff-will-be-the-most-important-appointment-of-his-term/267124/ http://www.politico.com/story/2013/09/white-house-chiefs-of-staff-96492.html http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/16/us/politics/16emanuel.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
  10. It's completely absurd but I am loving it. Had not liked the first episode all that much but this was stellar. I didn't mind the flash-backs or flash-forwards - in fact, I think all that adds a certain dynamism to the show and helps to deflect from the fact how completely unrealistic the plot is. The characters need to be fleshed out but that's not a big deal - this is only the second episode. Right now I can only name Wes from the crowd of first years. I'm gonna call it - the husband had an affair with the dead girl in the tank and Annalise thinks that he killed her to hide the affair but he actually didn't.
  11. I think "it" was the suit and the scary reputation.
  12. I think it just showed that she was not desperate enough. It was only her first rejection and not her 10th. She has a very comfortable, safe roof over her head and food on her table. She's really not in any hurry to get a job and from Elizabeth's reaction later, her parents are not exactly breathing down her neck to get a job RIGHT AWAY. She could afford to hold onto her ideals for the time being.
  13. I love her hair. Probably because I have ruler-straight hair. Curly hair is absolutely beautiful to me. I wonder if that is deliberate. Maybe they have been married for so long that their relationship has settled into a kind of comfortable routine where they are more best friends bringing up kids together rather than lovers. And the show will portray how they handle their new situation where they are both vulnerable to outside temptations like co-ed fangirls and hot merceneraries. Or maybe I'm giving too much credit to the showrunners. I have to say this though (as mentioned in the previouslytv recap), mercernary head was showing a bit too much loyalty towards her. You would think as a mercenary, he would know better. Although it would be great if Leoni turns to him to investigate George's supposed murder. It's not as if she can do any sleuthing on her own - too visible for that.
  14. Frankly, that was the only thing I noticed in this episode since there was never going to any ending other than the one shown since Elizabeth is the bestest of them all and she would obviously never lose. He did have some chemistry with Leoni's character - hope he'll appear again.
  15. I have to agree with you as a non-book reader . I of course know by now the general idea of what Outlander is going to be about, but I wanted to see more of Claire and Frank. Because damn that chemistry between the actors, as someone said upthread, a slight awakwardness with deep longing. I have been told by book-readers that Frank is bit of a non-entity in the books but I found myself feeling so sorry for the man. He loves her so much and must be going out of his mind now that she has disappeared. TM is really good in the dual roles (poo, poor Frank) and CB is fantastic. Haven't seen much of SH to make a decision.
