  1. I really like it, too! I was surprised that it got so much negative feedback here. I'm not claiming that it's perfect, but I'm invested in the characters, and I like the storylines so far.
  2. Oh man. This was hard to watch, but I'm glad these stories are being told. I wish I could reach out to these women, and thank them for sharing their stories, and tell them how brave and strong I think they are. I am in awe of their courage, and wish they had never gone through any of that. I'm not sure what else to say - what an evil man, and deeply corrupt system. I'm going to keep watching. I found this show after watching Spotlight for the first time.
  3. I don't think this will happen. The story is told in a way where we know without a doubt that it was a suicide. Everything from the height of the balcony wall (he would have had to climb over it), to the quick ecstatic grin he flashes when he tells the person on the phone that he won't be able to deal with this in the future (paraphrasing). I think you're probably right about Zimmer. I saw her name in the credits and didn't realize that was her. I assume she'll be back, too.
  4. Of course Lou's favorite writer is F. Scott Fitzgerald.
  5. I swore off this season because of the change in format, but my 12 year old daughter talked me into watching last night. Other than the parts where I had to watch kids cry, I enjoyed it, and I'll be back next week. Random thoughts: - My favorite Maddie moment was when she asked a hip-hop dancer "why did you choose Fik-shun?", but in a tone that sounded like she couldn't believe that she would choose him over the other guy. I'm sure it was not her intention, but it made me giggle. Hopefully she finds her footing on this show when she judges. - I thought it was interesting to watch the all-stars deal with breaking bad news to the kids. They, understandably, seemed to have a hard time with it. Robert seemed especially compassionate, although I could have done without him telling that little boy that he let him down when he forgot the choreography. - I feel wrong watching children, like the kid at the end, break down on tv. I'm sure that experience stings enough without it being on national television. - There is some excellent tap this season, especially considering how young the dancers are. I think Gaby's team will be my favorite. - Cat is great with the kids, especially considering that this is not what she originally signed on for.
  6. I like this article about what happened in the last couple of episodes. It also touches on the question I had about the last scene: was this a night that took place before she was sent to prison, or was this her afterlife? http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/06/orange-is-the-new-black-death
  7. Sidenote: Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner directed this episode.
  8. I don't think Hailee saw it coming, either. She started to hug Jim to congratulate him, and then she realized her name was called. I hated to see Jim go, but I think Hailee deserves to be there. Not sure if it was just me, but JaJa and Alex's dance was one of my favorite contemporary pieces this season, even with the heavy handed theme. Loved the choreography, which really showcased JaJa's strengths.
  9. I've been a fan of Kate's since the start of the top 20, but she lost me tonight. I try really hard not to focus too much on personality and overall likeability (probably not an actual word), but it got to me with her this evening. I still think she's great to watch in contemporary dance, but I wasn't sad when they said she was voted off. For some reason that even i don't understand, I like Derek. He's a strong dancer (in his style, at least), and he's endearing. I was shocked that he was saved, though, and I think it should have been Alexia. I'm really glad Neptune is sticking around for the top 10. Speaking of Neptune, I was glad (and surprised) that Nigel asked Neptune what that dance meant to him, without trying to put words in his mouth. That dance was one of my favorites of the night. Phoenix and Pharside, circus folk, and Rob Zombie? Yes, please.
  10. I just finished binging ATRM, and Travis mentions, more than once, that he paired Jaime with someone who wasn't properly trained in lifts, and she was injured as a result of that.
  11. Why in the world is Kate in the bottom every week? She had one of the best performances last week. I'm afraid she's in trouble after tonight, although she did very well with what she was given. I like it when Travis Wall goes beyond what he typically does and tries something different with his choreography. I see this mostly in his group routines, and I really liked tonight's. I know nothing about ballroom, but I was impressed with JJ. She really surprised me this evening. Megz impresses me every week, and for some reason, every week I'm caught off guard by it. She and Edson had my favorite routine this week. Now I'm off to have some "Jim time". Gotta prep the tub.
  12. Liked: *Hailee and Virgil's robot dance. And, yes, I even liked that they stayed in character, which I thought was an amusing moment during the judge's comments. It put a nice spin on something that often develops into being overly serious, self-important, and, at the very least, boring. Most importantly, they brought it with the dance, and they were so much fun to watch. *Kate and Neptune: I need to rewatch, because I'm sure Neptune was great in this, but my eyes were always on Kate. There is something about her--what's the correct terminology--kicks? Extensions?--that I think are beautiful. I also enjoyed watching their reactions after they finished. It seemed like this might have been the first week where Kate felt like she was able to show what she is capable of, outside of the group routines. Maybe? *Jaja, Derek, Alexia: I watched Jaja most of the time. I know people weren't blown away by her here, but for some reason, I thought she did very well with this. I really like her, though, so I'm probably just biased. I also really like Derek, and I hope he starts to get more attention. Alexia and Marissa both fall into the same category for me: people who are talented, but for some reason I don't connect with their dancing. Probably more of my problem than theirs, but there you have it. *The contemporary group dance: I loved this one, and I hope we see more from that choreographer. Didn't like as much: *The street group dance. I was SO excited about this for some reason. When I heard which song they were dancing to, I had high hopes. It was meh. *Asaf staying and Moises leaving. I would have preferred to keep Burim over Asaf, but I really wish Moises could have stuck around for longer. *About 90% of the stuff that came out of Nigel's mouth.
  13. I know it's not the most original opinion of the evening, but I loved JaJa and Jim's routine. In addition to the dancing, I was really impressed with how they connected with each other, and with their acting. Jaja is no stranger to using her face in her dancing, so that wasn't really a surprise, but I thought Jim did a great job conveying many emotions. Loved the opening number. The Scott and Chbeeb see-saw routine was cool. The salsa was my least favorite, but I really like Hailee. The stage group routine reminded me of one of Travis's group routines from last year. I was sad to see Lily go. I liked watching her dance, and I was looking forward to seeing more from her. My 11 year old daughter's take on tonight's show, for anyone who cares to hear from this demographic: She says that Moises was safe because Maddie from Dance Moms tweeted a picture of the two of them after it was announced that he was in the bottom, and requested votes. I have no idea of that has anything to do with the end results, but I'm glad he and Derek got to stay. She loves Kate, and was very impressed by Burim's abs. She told me that Travis is starting to annoy her.
