  1. I agree, it might be a couple of rounds early, but not ridiculously early. Yes, in the second round, that would be a dumb mistake. As an example, the league I'm in, we have two running backs, two wide receivers, a QB, 2 "flex" players (tight end/RB/WR), a kicker, and defense, plus 8 bench players. You definitely want to get your RBs, WRs, and QB set first. But a really good kicker can get you some points, especially if your scoring is set up to allow for bonus points for longer field goals. I've had kickers get me more points than my QB a couple of times, since a 50+ yard field goal is worth 6 points, and a 40+ FG is worth 5 in my league. And I have my fantasy football app on my phone, so I could definitely finish my draft using it, if something went wrong with my computer.
  2. If it's the commercial with a giant asteroid about to hit earth, it's actually a Volkswagen ad, not a Subaru ad. But yeah, lack of time is often the issue (depending on how much warning there is), rather than space.
  3. This may sound strange, but if it would have been a regular episode of CtM, I would have felt manipulated. However, Christmas episodes of all shows are usually meant to be "feel good" moments, so I always wave off anything that would be eye-roll worthy in a normal episode. As soon as that hot water bottle was put into the bag, I knew the baby would survive.
  4. I am so sorry to hear this, Cricket. You and Joe are in my thoughts.
  5. The exterminator was actually "Gone Insect-Y Seconds Exterminators." I loved this episode. I thought the first one of the season was an interesting experiment, but I'm glad to be back to a normal and mostly all-kids episode. The poster plot was just all right, but Bob getting sucked into it (sort of) was funny. I thought the mystery was well done, too. Darn those expensive Keurig pods! (Psst: get them at Costco, teachers.) ETA: Maybe the other burger was "Burrata be a law burger"? As a take on "there oughta be a law?"
  6. Great pictures, Booney! You'll enjoy the canal cruise. When my mom and I went on our British Isles cruise, it was round trip out of Amsterdam. We only had one full day in Amsterdam, so we did a hop on/hop off bus/canal cruise combo, that gave us a chance to see a lot of the city, and get off and walk around in various areas as well. Have a fun vacation!
  7. Yes, as noted above by AAEBoiler, it's based on the last Hobbit movie (The Battle of the Five Armies). The person singing the song at the end of this episode, Billy Boyd, also did the song at the end of TBOTFA, "The Last Goodbye" (he was also Pippin in the LOTR movies). I enjoyed this episode. The genital smurfs (or whatever they were called) actually made me laugh out loud, which I haven't really done with a Simpsons episode for awhile.
  8. This was a very well-done series. I cried at various times (especially the final episode, at the Wall). The interviewees were extremely forthcoming, and it was nice to have voices from all sides. Like others above, I actually wish it was a little bit longer. I wish they had had more time to spend on Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. I also wish they had had a segment on the various reporters and photojournalists who followed the soldiers into combat. Aside from a couple of the most famous photographs and their photographers, there wasn't really any mention of anyone else. A little time spent on Michael Herr, Tim Page, or Sean Flynn and Dana Stone (who both disappeared into Cambodia) would have been nice. However, those are minor quibbles of an otherwise excellent project.
  9. Only the section at Macy's. I'm plus-sized, so have fewer options to start with. And even in the CK and Ralph Lauren sections, I couldn't find any. Or they had a small section, but they were "boyfriend" or tapered legs, or similar cuts. I have heavy calves, so need a boot or trouser cut, or I'm tugging down the leg every time I get up from a chair. However, I do have to say I didn't do an in-depth search, since it wasn't a necessity. I just checked out Macy's, Penney's, and Lane Bryant for the most part. I'll probably just wait until late August now, when the fall stuff starts appearing online.
  10. Back from a nice weekend trip to Seattle. Great concert, and great weather. I didn't do much shopping, but found a nice pair of Sketcher high tops at Ross for $20, and a Baggallini cross-body bag that will be great for travel for $30. I did look for some slacks for work, but couldn't find ANY. I guess even for office wear, capris are the style for summer. However, even tailored versions are just too casual for me, so I'll have to wait until fall. I hope everyone is having a relaxing and/or fun 4th!
  11. I still have a land line, but never answer it (it's part of my cable/internet package). I set it to ring just twice, and then it goes to voicemail. My family and friends know to call me on my cell, and anyone else can leave a message.
  12. I'm on a list to respond to questionnaires regarding automotive issues, and the two most recent polls were about self-driving (or partially self-driving) vehicles. As I noted in the polls, I'm very leery about a fully automated car. As I get older, I do appreciate many of the newer safety features. My current car has blind spot notification, a rear view camera and cross-traffic notification. If I turn my current car in at the end of its lease, I may go further and get one that has some automatic braking features. Even with that, though, I'm too much of a control freak to completely turn over all operations to my car, at least at this time. Maybe in 15-20 years, and after any known problems are ironed out (and I'm 15-20 years older!), I'll change my mind.
  13. I'm very sorry for your loss, Bronx Babe. My thoughts are with you. Take care of yourself.
  14. I'm reading this right now, and also finding it fascinating. I'm surprised I haven't heard about this case before somewhere. I just finished Lincoln in the Bardo. It took me a couple of chapters to get the rhythm, but after that, I was drawn fully in and really enjoyed it.
  15. We've added several new chain restaurants up here in the past few years, but still no Red Lobster or Cheesecake Factory. I occasionally go to both while traveling "outside." I do like the Cheesecake Factory, but always feel guilty, because I have to leave half the entrée behind. If I had one near home, I could take it home for later, but that's usually not possible while traveling. I haven't really noticed the prices being ridiculously high at those two restaurants, but being from Alaska, all the prices up here are high, even chain and fast food (usually a couple bucks more than the lower 48). My usual "must go" when outside is Five Guys Burgers & Fries, if one is reasonably close. I'm going to Seattle at the end of the month, and will definitely be hitting up the Five Guys in Lynnwood (which is where my hotel is).
  16. I completely agree. My most recent (well, over the past couple of years) annoyance is the decline in quality of Vera Bradley bags since they sent all production overseas. For example, the purse style I used to get was trimmed in a complementary pattern, with fabric in another complementary pattern lining the inside. Now, no trim, and the interior lining is just cheap polyester. The price is still the same as the older, nicer bags, but I would have preferred they raised the price and kept the quality. And judging by the reviews on the website, there are a lot of women like me, who are unhappy with the fabrication decline.
  17. Yep, he was Robert on Days of Our Lives, and I loved him there, too. That was my favorite soap until it veered into that supernatural crap (Marlena possessed by a demon or whatever). I switched over to All My Children, until it was ruined by the writers who took over after Agnes Nixon stopped being involved. They turned it into a crappy version of General Hospital, and ruined the women characters.
  18. I was wondering if someone else remembered the earlier coloring craze(s)! I remember being really interested in them in probably the mid-80s; mostly books with fantasy scenes and designs, IIRC. I had a really nice set of Pentel markers that I used. My nephew got me a Game of Thrones coloring book and some pencils for Christmas, but I haven't used them yet. I guess I went through my "coloring phase" years ago, and it doesn't interest me so much now. I have a jigsaw puzzle app on my iPad, and that's what I play with when I want some mindless fun while semi-watching TV. However, I have been thinking about getting an Apple Pencil for my iPad, and buying one of the coloring apps available. I had strange crushes when I was really young (under 10). The first I can remember are Ken Berry from F Troop, and Robert Clary from Hogan's Heroes. I got more "normal" as I got older, but I always have had a soft spot for "cute" (even ugly-cute) over handsome.
  19. Exactly. I'm just enjoying it as a soap opera based on history, not as history itself (rather like The Tudors and Rome and The Borgias). For actual history of that time period, I can go to my copies of Dan Jones's or Sarah Gristwood's books.
  20. I contracted shingles when I was 40. I didn't realize what it was. I first had bad back pain right at my lumbar spine (that can be an early symptom). I thought I had pulled my back. About three days later, the sores broke out around my waist on the right. I didn't connect the two, since I had no idea what shingles were at that time. I thought I had contact dermatitis from laundry soap or something. Fortunately, my annual physical was within a day of the sores breaking through, so I was within the time limit to get on Valtrex. I had a miserable couple of weeks (frozen peas on the sores helped a lot), but no lasting effects. I did have an odd sensation for a few months afterwards at the site of the sores; sort of like running water over my skin. Not painful, just weird. I haven't gotten the shingles vaccine yet. I'm about four years from my 60th birthday, so will probably wait until then.
  21. I guess in this one matter, she wants to use the correct terminology for the time. (The "Wars of the Roses" wasn't coined until the 19th century, IIRC.) However, considering all of the other ahistorical stuff, I'm not sure why she bothered.
  22. "Spring is here/spring is here/life is skittles/and life is beer..." Yes, I think spring is slowly coming to southcentral (Alaska)! We had a big dump of heavy wet snow (due to warm temperatures) the middle of last week, but it's been near or in the 40s during the day since then and it is MELTING!!!eleventy!!! Of course, there is still two feet of snow in my yard, but it is MELTING! Now I just need to get my shit together and get back to the gym (and on my diet) so I can fit into my summer clothes.
  23. That's a good point about the fact of it being in the heating vent speeding up deterioration. I'm assuming the heat would come on at least at night (not sure where on the Atlantic shore they are supposed to be, but I assume more toward the north than the south of the US). I'm surprised, though, that once the raccoon had it that she just didn't go ahead and eat it. But that's just a minor quibble over a funny and entertaining episode. I also liked the call back to Bob living in the crawl space, with his "I know the crawl space" lines (paraphrasing).
  24. This was a fun episode, with lots of great lines. Bob and Linda commenting on the schnapps was hysterical, especially the reveal of her buying it in the store parking lot, as was their hangovers the next morning. I do quibble as to whether a hard-boiled egg would start to smell bad after just a day, especially if the shell hasn't broken. I have personal experience with this. Way back in the 70s, my mom hid eggs inside our home. One egg didn't get found. We did look for it for hours, but finally gave up and just figured that the count was wrong. Months later, I went to turn on a table lamp, and it slightly rocked. I lifted it up, and there was the missing egg, under the (hollow) base. It didn't smell bad at all, but we still carefully took it outside (without breaking the shell) to put directly into the dumpster.
  25. I first heard about boba several years ago, but it's not something I'm interested in at all. I don't even like pulp in my orange juice, so I sure don't want tapioca (which I don't like anyway) in my tea. Like Glory, I love Thai iced tea, but strictly without tapioca. It's been bright and sunny here (although below freezing) for nearly two weeks. Even though it's not particularly warm, I am loving the sun and the lack of additional snow. It seemed it snowed nearly every other day in January and early February (I'm exaggerating, but not by much). I just want it to start warming up and heading towards spring.
