  1. I get that the players may be worried about the locked down vote Jaclyn has or Keith has but they shouldn't. It's only one vote. No one can win Survivor with one vote. The only scenario I come up with where Jaclyn comes out competitive is a Missy/Baylor/Jaclyn final and even then she's got 3 votes maybe. Jon, obviously plus Alec and maybe Reed if he's still bitter about Missy/Baylor. Keith wouldn't vote for her and Wes will vote with Keith. Natalie won't vote for her and and I don't see the other guys going her way either. The math isn't in her favour and I hope Natalie doesn't waste a tribal to vote her out when she doesn't seem like a threat.
  2. That was a great vote and an excellent plan. Natalie should be proud. I love that after getting instructions to act defeated at Tribal, Keith cut Jeff off to put on a show for Jon. After his past tribals I thought it was adorable. Jaclyn annoys me but if I were the other players I would drag her to FTC. She'll get Jon's vote but I don't see a final three scenario where she's getting enough votes to win. Jaclyn was. Jon's goat and without him she's still a goat.
  3. Sometimes I strugge with Claire Danes cry-acting thing, but the moment where she was calling Fara's dad was heartbreaking and so genuine. I wish she'd go smaller more often because that crushed me.
  4. I prefer ZAG too! Chaley and Clare both have lovely voices, but I think Chaley's holds up better in harmony with the two guys than Clare does. Her voice is got a bit more power and belt. She blends but doesn't fade into the background. Clare and Sam blend but by adding Jonathan's voice she just doesn't stand out. I guess that's the point, but I really preferred the ZAG sound. If we get more SAG songs, I could be swayed but I'll miss ZAG. Its really a shame they just didn't have Scarlett join ZAG and be like Little Big Town. Chaley already had the hair.
  5. This! The thing that got me most excited about the film is that it used real places and real people. (Not that Portman and the others weren't real, only there was so much CGI.) Obviously there has to be CGI in a space movie nowadays but they've clearly also used real sets, real locations and it feels so much more grounded as a result. When you look at the behind the scenes from Eps 1-3 and see that the actors were standing in front of miles of green screen for every shot, its no wonder their performances were often lifeless. They had nothing to work with. This looks different and it gives me so much more hope that the characters will be realized people since the actors won't be hampered with such a challenge.
  6. No, they're not supposed to look alike. Katniss is from District 12 while Snow is from the Capital. The physical difference between them should highlight the difference in situation, only Jennifer Lawrence doesn't look like book Katniss. I'm still bothered that someone described as having "straight black hair, olive skin, and grey eyes" is played by Jennifer Lawrence but that's on the studio who only auditioned white actresses, not on her. This franchise made her and I can't blame her for wanting the part.
  7. I'm so happy for team Witfonso! The moment in the package before their dance when he said he'd probably be calling her on Thanksgiving was adorable and if I didn't want them to win before that, it put me right over the top. Their connection was so genuine and it shone through in all of their dances and carried them through the weeks where Alfonso wasn't at his best. You don't need a showmance, just a real connection with your partner. I'm thrilled with the results. As for the dancing, I thought Witney and Alfonso and Janel and Val turned out two stunning numbers. With even one more day of rehearsal, both of those dances would be beyond. Sadie and Mark's wasn't quite there but that was the most fun Sadie's had on the dance floor in weeks so that's a plus. Overall, this was an amazing season. The casting folks did a great job with the mix of stars, the pros really brought it with the choreography and memorable numbers and the stars were game. I still don't think I need four judges and the band should never sing Jackson 5 songs but still an amazing season.
  8. If Tandy were around she would have told Rayna that a prenup was just good business sense and probably would have already had a lawyer draft one up to protect H65. I know that Tandy's gone but someone in the Rayna James camp needs to have some business sense. I've been all over the place on Layla because Layla has been all over the place as a character, but I do love this version of Layla and I feel bad for her. Sure, there is the potential to capitalize on her fame but that comes at the price of playing up to an image you can't relate to. I hope she finds a way out of this that isn't murder suicide. How dumb is Gunner's kid? Most kids would have either grabbed Zoey and told her he was going to the bathroom or waited a few minutes for their dad. He's not potty training. He can wait a minute. Also, stadiums can be big but its not that hard to find a bathroom and come back the way you came. Being free from Kiley might actually be good for this kid's brain.
  9. Does anyone know who Mandy is helping with the freestyle? I know she said she helps everyone, but who are the rumours about? Not that I think getting Mandy's help is a big plus; the opening numbers haven't been any great shakes and she's pretty hit or miss on SYTYCD too, but I'm curious about what fanbase is calling foul. When they were talking opening numbers and Mandy brought up Jessie J, I honestly have no idea what that number looked like other than Jessie J was there. That was not memorable. I do remember BO$$ but this other number, nope. I really wish there was more ballroom in the opening numbers and less Mandy in general.
  10. Why was Ramona even around? She's his private lawyer, what could the business reason for her being at the interview of the firefighter event even be? Like Eli would allow that. I missed him in this episode. I can't wait for this stuff to blow up in Peter's face. He's such an idiot. I'm glad Cary isn't dead. I've spent the whole season stressed for his life. I was very concerned for him a few times and I'm still worried about him, but at least while he was at Bishop's house I was pretty sure he was safe. Bishop is super scary but I don't think he'd murder someone with his son in the house. I haven't hated Alicia too much this season, but her willingness to exploit Will's death for her political advancement was pretty disgusting. The dinosaur ad was pretty awful. I guess people would watch that on the internet but I don't see how that would help. Alicia and Finn are whatever to me. Let it happen, I guess, just to get it over with.
  11. Agreed that Zoey has had some of the worst writing on an increasingly poorly written show. I want to complain about her plot but really, she doesn't have one. She gets stories for each episode but they barely tie together. I know we just had a time jump but Zoey was on a tour two months ago where she had a potentially breakout moment. Why is she sitting at home doing laundry and complaining about Kiley? Why isn't she working? Was there fallout from her moment in the spotlight? We will never know because the writers don't seem to see Zoey as a character but as a moving part in other character's plots. Its got to suck for Chaley. In general, the writing has become more and more frustrating. There is no consistent world in Nashville and without it, the show isn't grounded. Luke Wheeler is supposed to be the Luke Bryan/Blake Shelton type, except the show has had Luke Bryan on and has name dropped Shelton. Rayna went on a rant about how there are only two women in country music right now and I assumed she meant herself and Juliette, except Scarlett keeps writing songs for Miranda and Carrie, so are Rayna and Juliette non-entities? Why is H65 only worried about Edgehill and vice versa? Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert don't seem to be on either label and they're big deals both in the real world and on the show. Its just so jarring for Tom Bergeron to call Rayna James the queen of country music and then name drop actual country stars two scenes later. Plus Scarlett was put through PR boot camp last season, but somehow I'm supposed to believe that Rayna has no idea how the media works, doesn't understand her clout or how to engage a reporter in a natural way? Its like the writers just keep pushing forward and the facts of the story so far don't matter. It's very frustrating.
  12. I've been watching the afterbuzz show for a few years and in the past I've always enjoyed Shirley as a guest but this show was the worst one I've ever seen. She always made small pro-Mark/Derek/Julianne comments in the past and that's fine because most of the guests have connections with the cast and small biases would peek out from time to time, but this was horrible. Shirley demonstrated exactly why she wasn't hired as a judge in the first place. She's has no business talking about Mark and Sadie if she can't step back from "how much work Mark put in" to talk about the quality of movement. I never want to see her on the aftershow again and I certainly never want to see her as a judge. She was awful.
  13. Except, its not an either/or. There are actors on Broadway right now who hit the notes and act the parts. I don't love Hugh in the role, though I know the movie wouldn't have happened without him. But let's be real; its not an either/or. There are actors out there who can play the part on the emotional level and hit the notes as written, but they're not household names and they can't bring in the box office the way Hugh Jackman could. I cried seeing Ramin Karimloo's Vanjean in Toronto last year. Just listening to Colm Wilkinson's Bring Him Home gets me misty eyed. Musical theatre actors are actors. They can inject a character with life and vitality. And they can hit the notes. (And many of them can dance) But not every actor can fit into every role. Hugh is a great actor and I love his voice. He's not Valjean, though. It doesn't suit his voice. And when that is wrong, its harder to focus on what is going right.
  14. As someone who was a fan of early seasons JJ, I agree that she wasn't the most empathetic person out there. It was one of the most interesting things about JJ, she was able to be respectful and take the work seriously, but she was almost always detached emotionally from the things she witnessed. Add to that the sense that she understood how other people perceived her looks (all-American sweetheart) and it was clear that she had a veneer of caring that allowed victims, family members the others in the public to connect with her while she never really connected with them. Its why the few times JJ did connect to a case like in North Mammon or Birthright stand out as unusual and why, unlike Garcia, she was able to vet cases without complaint about the content. I liked that she was savvy and she knew how to use her looks to make people react in a certain way. I liked that she could be professional and distant while never being off-putting or to the other extreme flippant about the job. I thought it made her an interesting person and when we learned about her sister, it fit the character. The problem now is that instead of JJ being someone who fakes empathy and relies on other people connecting the dots, she just is the most empathetic person ever. And she's the best fighter. And she cares. I want characters to change and grow, but its just a much less interesting character than where we started. All that being said, I did mostly like her here and liked the episode. I agree with other posters who say her kid her rules and had no problem with her not being ready to talk about her sister to her child. Henry is still very young and people always think they have more time to get ready for those big conversations so being caught off-guard and lashing out at her mom was very understandable.
  15. So Artem "stole" Henry from Mark then? No one else really makes sense. Keo is tall, Tony is tall, Sasha is probably far too short for Sadie. Well, that's tough shit for Mark. I can't imagine Artem chose someone just to screw with Mark; he's worked with Henry in the troupe and wants to give Lea the best dance he can. He gets to pick first and he picked who he wanted. Being "peeved" about it is childish and pathetic. What's Artem supposed to do, pick his second choice so Mark can have whoever he wants? Its amazing how it only took Mark two weeks to go from positive, upbeat and hardworking to pissy and childish every time he sees an open mic.
  16. I've gone from loving this show to full out obsessed in one night. A huge part of it is Henry and Eliza's chemistry because wow! When you set up a romcom, you hope the actors you cast are able to bring it and these two really work well together, not only in the more blatant waist-grabby moments, but in the friendship moments too. Gillan and Cho work so well together at everything. But, I also have to credit these two episodes for really opening up the workplace and giving us hilarious moments with the other characters. We saw more of Saperstein and his family and they are a funny group. I died at the reaction when Henry cannonballed into the pristine lake. I also loved Larry answering for Henry when he thought Eliza was asking him out. And obviously Charmonique is fabulous. The workplace elements of the show are great and the more the writers let those characters shine, the better.
  17. He limped up the stairs after his dance so I'm pretty sure he's in a great deal of pain still. I appreciate that he's still pushing week after week and not really talking about the injury.
  18. The real point being its not necessary to discuss what a 17 year old girl is wearing under her shorts at all, religious or not. He continues to be a total prize. He needs a long break from this show if he thinks this sort of behaviour is helpful to him and to Sadie.
  19. Lifts are allowed in a Salsa. I think you mean "surccumb." Honestly, Mark showed his ass several times over in the package last night. He's a twit and he did Sadie no favours with that behaviour. I remember more about his ego and bluster than I do their dance. Every time a pro gets all dramatic like that, it hurt the partnership and while I respect that the pros feel passionate about their work and want to defend their celebrity, there's a way to stay positive and not throw things.
  20. I thought the dancing stepped up this week from last so I was very happy. Alfonso and Witney were my favourites. For me, that dance was cute, sassy and full of content. I knew a Cha Cha wasn't going to get a high score up against Contemporary and Jazz numbers so I was just content to see Alfonso and Witney kill it. Plus it meant I got to see them jive again. They borrowed from their first jive quite a bit but I did not mind because that was an excellent dance. Janel and Val were amazing. It wasn't, for me, a favourite but I can recognize how that was a winning number. I just hate Romeo and Juliet. I hate any love story based on it. (How you doing, WSS) Its not really a love story at all; two dumb hormonal kids get married so they can have sex and then a series of stupid choices and unfortunate events end up getting them and pretty much every one they know killed. Not romantic, and I don't think it was supposed to be. It's a story about the destructive power of passion. I knew that wouldn't be the focus of the dance so I wasn't going to love it but Janel probably gave her best performance so far with this number and Val choreographed something that worked for her. Derek hid Bethany behind a kitchen counter. There was easily 30 seconds of that routine between the mucking about at the start and the dancing where the audience couldn't see her feet. That's bullshit in a dance competition. Mark is a pissy little baby and I'd love for him to leave and never come back. The problem with last week's Paso had nothing to do with creativity or imagination. Sadie didn't dance it very well. Her balance was off, her arms were frantic and her legs were weak. Instead of being a professional, he stomped around while in the middle of the show last week. If I intentionally threw a piece of work equipment around, I'd get fired. I know reality TV isn't the same, but any softening I was having towards him has been destroyed. I'd rather see him leave than Tommy. Sadie did alright with the dance. She doesn't have the skill to really create the explosion of movement she needed when the music picked up. I don't think any untrained dancer would. Can someone please explain why some random woman was singing the Alanis song instead of the band or Alanis? Lea could be in trouble. That was not a great dance, she went early on and was totally smoked in the dance-off. I want to like her more than I do. She's giving off desperation vibes and its so off-putting. Tommy and Michael were both better than I expected considering how much they had to prep but neither was good. Tommy is better than Michael at seeming like he's dancing. I'm glad Michael's gone and I do hope Tommy is next. I really like Tommy but he's clearly over his head at this point.
  21. Is Jess Weixler even on the show at this point? Robin has been MIA since Kalinda joined FA and it doesn't make sense. Now that Kalinda can't be near Cary, why not have Robin working the case with Kalinda? At least she can go into court without sending Cary back to jail. I'm so glad that we, as an audience, got confirmation that Cary didn't do anything illegal and that the CI did manipulate the tape and situation to set Cary up. Now that I have that confirmation, I'm ready for things to move on. Clear Cary, take down Castro (who has to be straight up corrupt the way things have been playing out) and let Cary get back to doing his actual job. I miss Cary acting as a lawyer.
  22. Its not that Mark and Sadie's dance lacked content, its that it wasn't danced well. Sadie's arms were stiff and (I hate to agree with Bruno but...) incomplete. She had little Spanish line in her movements. Her foot placement was tentative and the whole thing felt frantic. The problem (or brilliant idea) is that Mark created a dance were fear and weakness suited Sadie's character so I don't know if she was weak or if she was playing weak. That's bad. To be fair to Mark, I don't think he did this to intentionally cover up Sadie's dancing. I think he was genuinely stuck and when he finally hit on an idea he just went over the top with it because he was behind and didn't have the time to fully form and think through the choreography. It happens. No one can choreograph dances 12 weeks at a time without hitting a wall at some point or getting a brain fart or getting stuck on a concept at least once. Mark got stuck here. But it certainly was Sadie's weakest dance in a very long time in large part because there was too much concept and story and not enough focus on the dancing. Its been a very long time since I've seen a star say "I can't" quite so much and certainly not at week 7. Michael would give each step a try and if it wasn't instantly there, just stop trying. Its really upsetting seeing him continue on while other dancers who are willing to put in the effort and even do things wrong in front of the audience just to try to get them right go home while Michael gets to stay, stomp around and do little else. I don't mind concept dances on Halloween night. That seems like the right time for everyone to go nuts, but it did bug me that Julianne called out Val/Janel for the extended opening but loved Derek/Bethany even though it took them just as long to get to actual dancing. Also, even without Len talking, I knew he hated Janel's number. It was all over his face. Can't say I blame him since they barely traveled across the floor or spent any time in hold.
  23. Right? I'm guessing that the choreography can't be done by the show because otherwise, why would you not do The Time Warp? Tommy would know the Time Warp. That would be easy for him. It did bug me they used the Glee cover. I like the Glee cover but its not the Time Warp. Alfonso's dance was amazing. Witney did a great job with what was actually a very tricky song. Ghost is amazing, but fast for a rumba. She managed to keep the dance a real rumba even though the pace was very quick. I'm sad for Cheryl. I wish she'd have lasted a few more weeks and gone out on a better number. The very best part of the whole episode was Derek getting scared when Sasha hopped out of the fridge.
  24. I think Eli has had this problem for a while. He may work for Peter and sees Peter as his ticket to national politics, but Alicia is the Florrick he likes and respects. He's always very hesitant to step into their marriage, in part because it is private, but also because he favours Alicia's point of view and knows he can't tell his boss. That was a cockroach, just not one you can find anywhere in the USA outside of museums and zoos. Somehow the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach is the go to for TV and movies even though it makes no sense. And you're right, it doesn't have wings.
  25. As someone who was a fan of the original JJ, this is so very true. I loved early JJ. I liked that she had skills that no one on the team had. I really was interested in how victims families reacted to her. I never thought JJ was this open heart sort of person, but rather an professional who could empathize but stay detached. JJ looked like a sweet girl with the youth, the big eyes and the blonde hair so families opened up to her but she never really let cases touch her. I thought that made her an interesting, but somewhat flawed person. I liked that she was a crack shot, because of all the physical skills she could posses, that made some sense. And when she was forced off the show, I was pissed and was very much a part of the angry voices complaining about losing her and Emily. But with her coming back, the writers basically rebooted her. She has the same face and name and she still has the kid and Will, but otherwise, its like she's been bodysnatched. I would rather the writers bring in someone new than do this to a character I found fascinating.
