  1. The idea of this format isn't terrible but the execution is. I don't know these kids at all.  In a group dance, someone pops up on-screen and I'm so busy trying to remember their name that I don't really notice the dancing.

I don't care about who gets cut. I knew it would be guys this time to even things back out. I have no emotional attachment to any of them. The show thinks a package during the auditions makes up for spending time with each contestant in rehearsals and in partnerships. It doesn't. What made it easy to get to know the contestants in the past was seeing them in a variety of situations and seeing not only how they do but hearing partners and choreographers talk about them, who they are and how they are coping. So much of that has been stripped back that its soulless now.

I don't care about the showmance. It's not the first one so I'm not mad about it but when they showed the women talking about it, I had no idea what guy they meant.

Also, I get why the music video was shot and edited before we saw it because that's how it works in real life. But for Broadway, why didn't they perform it live in front of the audience? That's how that works in real life. Because watching it, I wondered how many times they filmed each dance to get all the angles without other cameras in view and then how they chose to manipulate the takes to justify the cuts. Did the two (I don't know their names!) crash into each other one time out of eight? Did someone mess up in one take and it wasn't shown?

I just need Cat at the start of the episode to say each person's name and have them do a little dance. I need that visual reminder at the top of the show so I know who we are talking about the rest of the episode. I am a dumb TV person. I know its too late to change it now but it hurts. I would have thought the producers of the show understood the reason they did that for every other season but now I'm thinking they just thought it was to kill time?

  2. I thought this was one of the best episodes of the series. I thought by having a few strong suspects in the neighbor and the wife, the misdirection worked very well. Plus, Anne Ramsay is a great actor and she nailed every scene she was in.

I love Serena now. She had a few very funny line deliveries. Without all the Folsom baggage, she is delightful.

I also really liked Josh this episode. It helped that he behaved like a professional throughout. He still has no business being there but at the very least the angst was dialed way down and he took the work seriously.

I was pretty confident we'd be going back to not-Elon eventually. I still think it's deeply stupid to have that robot in Max's office when there are still questions about if it can spy on them.

  3. Outside of the cold open and Melissa's impressions I thought this episode was terrible. It was so predictable. We knew Questlove was going to show up. We knew Janine would end up back at Abbott. I did not find the writing funny or even enjoyable.

Janine looks like an idiot for her behaviour these past few episodes. She decides to go work for the district, doesn't understand that means doing projects with any and all of the schools, not just Abbott, behaves so erratically when she's being onboarded and then changes her mind during her welcome party. It makes me feel like all her progress this season at being more professional and confident was for nothing because she didn't behave that way at all dealing with this decision.

  4. I kind of think its unlikely that for six hours they kept popping into the ready room over and over and not once did they bump into any of our past captains. I really assumed we'd get Saru at the very least since they already put Doug Jones in the makeup for such a short amount of screen time.

Pike would have been helpful. Lorca would have been a major problem. Any version of past Captain Michael would have been fine but weirded out.

It's not that I disagree with it entirely, but I do hate how heavy this show leans on the "feelings are good and the most important" thesis. Sometimes they are. But also sometimes its good to be disciplined and run on systems. A balance is what is ideal. But it always feels like the feelings side is 100% right on this show and the other side is always wrong.

The Rayner who helped Tilly solve a problem wouldn't have dismissed Reese offering up a pretty logical theory. But we needed Rayner to be the bad guy and learn a lesson so that's what we got. In the little time we've had with him, he's clearly mission focused and someone offering up a theory about the mission is something I think he'd value.

Once again, Jet Reno is the best and I always wish we'd get more of her. I know Tig is very busy but knowing the show is working its way to the end, it bums me out when we don't see Jet more.

Was the Wyoming vegetable Gene from Bob's Burgers?

Yes. He was there along with Mark McKinney as the peach, Fred Armisen as the Sweet Potato and Tomatillo, Nick Kroll as the Cantaloupe and Coconut and Cecily Strong as the Ginger and Orange. I loved picking out the voices.

  6. Susan's hoped for promotion is for junior partner, right? Making someone a partner isn't the same thing as a promotion at all. Yes, it's a bump up in roles at the firm but it's also buying into the firm. Susan would have to buy in which wouldn't be an issue based on what we know about her financial situation. And let me caveat that I've never become a partner at a law firm for this next part, but I would imagine that you can't just make someone a partner whenever with no input from all the other partners. I don't think it would be on Margaret alone to decide. There would have to be a partners meeting where new partners would be discussed and decided on. Plus, (and again, I don't know for sure) but I imagine a law firm wouldn't just make someone a partner mid-Q2. I would think, because of the financials involved there would be set times in a fiscal year when partners would be added.

I know this is not a realistic show, but it would be nice if there was some sense that this isn't just a promotion. Susan is already a senior associate. She should know what the partner track looks like and when and how she may become a partner.

I wondered the same thing. Could one of the eliminated queens have left it behind 🤔

My best guess is that they were provided with additional breastplates for the makeover challenge in case any of the queens wanted the option for themselves and their sister and Sapphira kept the one intended for her.

I didn't see anyone use one this year but in past makeover challenges, we've seen the baby queens trying them on. The queens don't know the skin tone of their potential makeover partner and wouldn't be expected to bring one to match in that case so I'm guessing production has many.

I am glad that Mary put her foot down about Mary and Georgie not having sex in the house if they're not married.  Not a good example for Missy at all.

They have a baby. I think the cat is out of the bag. The bigger issue is poor Missy having to hear other people having sex, which will still be an issue if they're married. It not going to be any less awkward or disruptive for Missy just because the couple in question got married. Mandy and Georgie should be more respectful of the fact that they are in a house jam packed with people and be quiet.

Really, they need to get out of the Cooper house! Missy and Sheldon, who are both children, are both being put upon with no one defending them or looking out for them while two grown adults who have incomes are mooching off the family. Making sure Cece is someone safe is important but that is Georgie and Mandy's responsibility not the rest of the Coopers and it would be nice to see George and Mary remember they have two minor children who have had their lives totally disrupted and maybe do some actual parenting instead of being lazy (George) or a busybody (Mary.)

It's funny how the result of the pandemic wasn't "everyone starts making their own meals" but was "everyone starts ordering restaurant meals delivered."

I ordered food more frequently during the pandemic because it was my only source of fun or novelty. I couldn't go out anywhere. I couldn't see new movies or theatre or go to parties or explore new businesses or neighbourhoods in my city. I wasn't going to the library. I wasn't going out to the stores. I wasn't visiting family or friends. Early on, my days were monotonous, inside my condo, by myself. Getting food delivery was an easy and safe way to break up the absolute boredom and dread. And I did believe that keeping a restaurant open by spending my money was a good thing.

I would have given Q the win - her looks were the most creative and she overcame her dancing weakness.

I thought Q took the laziest and easiest route and did not appreciate it at all. Easy to create a family resemblance when you paint someone like a clown. I can paint two similar clown faces! The costume, the big ugly monster, also made it so that padding and proportionizing wasn't really a concern. It's smart because you don't know the makeover subjects ahead of time but it isn't a winner in my eyes at all.

Honestly, Q started out with some amazing runway looks but I feel we are scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point. I'm sure she's saving something truly lovely for the end but this weird monster thing, the chain look, the weird hat thing with the horrible bikini top have all been misses. In the last four weeks she's had one good look in the 80s corporate drag that was a tribute to AIDS. Good stuff is coming, I am sure, but as a design and looks queen she is coasting on her reputation right now.

I've been trying to remember what the auditions remind me of... and it's The Next Step.

I like the choreographer. Finally saw something recognizable as jazz.

Galen has long been one of my favourite choreographers. I'm so glad she was here and I got to spend so much time watching her work. I just like how her moves can be sexy and powerful but not male gaze-y. This is my favourite piece but they're all good.

The results part of the show is necessary but so boring. There just isn't enough time with these dancers for me at least to care deeply about the results. I think once they were down to the 16, any of them could do the show. It was just a question of types and styles to make an interesting mix.

  12. I have to assume that we're going to see not-Elon and his company again because that ending was so open-ended.

Also, if there's even a remote chance that the robot is listening in, get it out of Max's office.

Penny was being such a brat this episode. The crime lab was seriously compromised. Some oversight was needed. Serena was just making sure that the processes were being followed.

I will say, watching everyone be a horrible drama llama to Serena has really made me a fan of her. She has handled all of it so professionally.

Maybe it was meant in a sabotage-y way? Don't interrupt your competition when they're making a mistake, and all that. "Yeah, cool out-of-the-box thinking, bro, you roll with that. Sounds sexy."

I tend to think both of them just were not confident in their ability to roll out the pasta dough to the right thickness for something like a raviolo. Stuffed gnocchi is going to be a bit more forgiving.

I also liked Padma's dynamics with Gail and Tom.  I'm not sure how I feel about Kristin's dynamics with either of them yet, although I haven't felt anything negative so far.

Padma didn't have that at the start. I did a whole Top Chef rewatch this year and while Padma was an improvement in season 2, she was still a little awkward. She took a few seasons to really have a bond with Tom that was visible on camera. Kristin will get there. And probably a bit faster because she already knows the other judges and the show itself is a well-oiled machine at this point. When Padma joined, the show was still figuring itself out.

  14. Some of the issue is the writing/production happening but the Queens are also playing it so safe nowadays. No one is hungry for a win. They know that if they're memorable, make it near the end and don't piss off the fanbase the bookings go up, the chance to return another season goes up and the win, while nice, isn't as important as their long-term work.

Dawn gave up in that lipsync. I think she didn't want to embarrass herself but it sure made for a shitty end of the episode. No suspense, nothing to see at all. Body strongly favoured Morphine but Dawn didn't try.

Q was pissed at the results and I'm sure that's the very reason the decision was made but she's far too camera savvy to start a fight so instead of good tv, we got someone being very mature, a half-assed tiff over poorly chosen words and then nothing.

The show is boring now because the Queens play it too safe. Even Plane, who played the villain is still so tame compared to Queens in the early years. She doesn't mean it. She's not really invested in any of her comments or in any rivalries with the other girls She's just a troll. She says shocking things for attention but doesn't really believe much of what she says.

I don't know what the producers do to fix it; the show has gotten too big for anyone to be messy. The contestants all know better. They've been in the fandom and they know what happens to a mean Queen. They know what happens when a Queen embarrasses herself. They know what the consequences are of getting on Ru's bad side. So they very wisely play it safe. This is their career and their livelihood. They can't be out here playing a wild game. It has real world consequences.

To be fair though, I don’t think it’s a window? More like the cannibal guy saw a hole where sunlight passes through and started breaking out the weak concrete wall to get more sunlight while he stayed there. Allie herself had to do a lot of breaking and her hands bled as a result because she has no proper tools and it’s concrete.

But yes, I assume she broke just enough for one person to pass through. Why she didn’t run either way (she got out first, or was left behind) is puzzling.

And how far was his car from the building? Because you'd think an officer would have noticed it and ran the plates during the hours they were trapped in the basement if it was right there somewhere. I get that it's a big place but there was a murder and then an explosion so secure the scene?

Some of that could possibly be attributed to the Nigel situation, maybe? I'm assuming he was present for some auditions and then either edited out somehow or they reshot things.

I think so as well. There were times we never saw the full table in one shot or the judges and the dancers were never in the same shot and either its weird editing or the judges did some re-shoots or both.

Once we get to a top ten, I hoping things get a bit more natural.

My only problem with bringing in the CC students is that library science isn't a degree offered at 2 year schools. Essentially, they'll be getting an untrained volunteer, when the pilot was with someone who obviously knew she was doing. It'll be great experience for the college students, but it's not going to be the same as having a trained librarian.

I'm from Canada so post-secondary works differently but our equivalent to a community college would offer a two year diploma for something like Library Technical Assistant or Library and Information Technician. Is that not something offered in the US? I assumed they'd be getting students in program like that who could use the experience. It's not a Librarian but its probably someone passionate about the field with some level of training and knowledge.

Tariq coming up with a great fundraising idea like a teachers vs. students basketball game but then totally messing up the execution is very on brand. The whole cold open was gold.

I do remember her being as irritating!

She absolutely had her moments but I do think in this conflict she was mostly right.

She was annoyed with Beau when he was a sneezing mess and he shouldn't stay in a crime scene like that and risk contamination.

She was annoyed that he was stumped and refused to bring in help. Max figured it out. And even if she hadn't, how does running the results by more people hurt? Catherine is far from a perfect person but one of her best strengths was knowing what she didn't know and relying on a solid team. There were always "bigger brains" around her and she knew when to go to them for some quick help.

Her delivery could have been better but I thought she was right in these instances.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder why production would allow the mother/son competitors. I am in no way accusing the current folks of anything, but it seems like there is so much potential for sketchiness. If a pair had agreed to some basic strategy ahead of time, and both got fairly close to the end, it seems like they would have a huge advantage in strategizing so that at least one of them could prevail. I’m sure there are rules against making agreements to split the winnings, but when you’re looking at family members (or h/w), is that really enforceable?

For this very type of drama. The producers care about making compelling television. Having a secret duo is fun. That was the priority and I guess they figure out the rest to make it work.

To say nothing of how insulting it is to claim some jobs are more "real" than others. All those Fox News clips of people snidely mocking theater majors or people in other liberal arts professions - newsflash, idiots, those jobs are just as real as your bllue-collar jobs, and provide plenty of societal benefits all their own.

Hiring actors for a political ad to insult theatre majors is peak ridiculousness.

Besides, we need actors. For entertainment, for instructional videos, to make the entire world of advertising work. Economically, its a very important career. And I know so many people believe that anyone can act, but that's not true. It's a skill that has to be honed with training.

  21. I know not every 18 year old makes good financial decisions but there has to be forgiveness at some point. A crap decision shouldn't be a life sentence. And that's assuming there was a bad decision made at some point which may not always be the case. If someone is paying over $700 a month and only $65 is going to the principal something is wrong with that loan. That loan shouldn't be legal. The government has to provide some forgiveness, some relief. People cannot have lives with debt like this hanging over them.

The one person had $80,000 in debt, paid $120,000 over 10 years and still has $76,000 in debt. That should not be allowed. That loan has to be forgiven because she will never pay that loan off.

Its hard to get a job without some sort of post-secondary education. The cost of post-secondary education has skyrocketed and is being passed on to students and parents. If we don't forgive the debt that currently exists and make dramatic changes to education, the generations coming up will never be able to afford homes, kids, cars (because they've gotten so much more expensive too) and a chance to build up any savings for medical expenses (another thing we should fix) and ultimately retirement.

I would love to ask the "people need to have kids" Senator from the IVF story how he feels about student loan forgiveness. I would guess he's anti- but of course the debt is one of the big things cited in this story that is preventing people from having kids.

So the dorm room miraculously has bunk beds in it this episode, and Sheldon keeps his money sock in a drawer, which indicates that he also lives there.  But Joaquin took a shower in that bathroom, implying that it's his room.  Maybe they are hoping we won't care?

It's probably the cleanest shower in the whole dorm. I'd use it even if I didn't live there.

Also, Sheldon is living in the dorms? Does Mary know? Or care? I know George doesn't care. Has he been home since the last episode? I have so many logistical questions.

  23. Savannah Chrissly was terrible and I have no idea who she is but if she's supporting her minor siblings because her parents did tax crimes, good for her.

The Beets give me so much joy. The clues had me leaning one way but once I heard them singing and especially together, I knew this one.

    Spoiler

Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken! The brothers comments had me expecting real brothers but they're chosen brothers which is adorable. I can't believe its been over 20 years since their season of American Idol.

Also, I knew Cleocatra from the first line.

    Spoiler

Jenifer Lewis! She has such a distinct voice. I love her so much. She's amazing in everything. That opening scene in Sister Act where you can see her and Whoopi having a fight while performing on stage is comedy gold. I've been a fan since I was a little girl.

Gumball is harder. Vocally he reminds me of a couple of people but then I can't make the clues fit. Superhero people who can sing is a thing (the CW had a decade of shows) but then I can't make the Southern clue fit. When I have someone from the south who may line up vocally, I don't have a superhero match. The spider throws me off completely. I need another week of clues.

I do buy that Sheldon's memories are very biased due to his interpretation though.

As someone who doesn't like the retcon, I've always said that Sheldon can be biased and wrong about subjective things but making him wrong about objective things is a poor move.

Sheldon thinking that his father is a drunk because he has a beer every night is fine with me because Sheldon thinks any alcohol consumption is too much consumption. Sheldon interpreting adult fights as worse than they are because he is uncomfortable with his parents fighting at all makes sense. Suggesting his siblings are drooling idiots when they are in fact totally normal people just because they aren't as smart as him is in character for Sheldon. Sheldon being wrong about subjective things is in character for Sheldon.

Sheldon knowing that his father had a girlfriend who he can describe physically and can provide details of interactions with isn't something that can be passed off as Sheldon has a bias. George shooting the TV because he was upset with a football score isn't something that can be passed off as a bias. George getting into a fight with Mary and skeet shooting her plates isn't something that can be passed off as a bias. Those aren't opinions Sheldon has; they are events he experienced. And he may not describe every single detail right but I don't believe he invented events and people whole cloth. I think Sheldon, who doesn't like to lie, did interact with a girlfriend who tried to buy his love. I don't believe he invented two separate instances of George shooting property. That is not accurate to the character that has been around for over 15 years.

So the retcon of the affair here, I can buy Sheldon being wrong based on how they set it up but I don't like it because I think it portends other changes to things that Sheldon witnessed in an effort to soften the George character. The show is saving George at the expense of Sheldon and I personally care way more about Sheldon and the integrity of his character than I do George.

Show runners lie in interviews about what their plans are for the show all the time though, so I never pay much attention to interviews. I think sometimes it is purposeful misdirect and other times they had a plan when they gave the interview but something made them change it.

But if they said something like "it has to be a main ghost to really make an impact" that doesn't necessarily mean that is what they planned on doing. It would be like saying "dinner has to be vegetables to really be healthy, (but I'm having pizza)". Of course if they said "a main character is being sucked off" full stop, then who knows what happened. Maybe they lied, maybe they thought about it but realized the cast work too well together to lose one and tossed the idea, maybe Sheila was going to leave then asked if there was a chance to come back and they like her enough to say sure. Personally I don't care as, like I said, I don't pay much attention to what they say as it might not be the truth. lol

It's also very possible that when they wrote the finale last year they did intend to have a major character leave. But with Flower needing time off for parental leave, they didn't want to be two ghosts down and they didn't want to fire a woman for being pregnant so they changed plans. I would rather they change plans and their statements in the past be a "lie" than fire a pregnant woman. Actors should be able to take parental leave without losing their jobs.
