  1. I don't agree that Gil and Kelly aren't that strict. Gil and Kelly give the illusion the kids have choices, but they manipulate and control their kids. None of the girls have moved out without being married so that's probably not allowed for girls. Josie wanted out of the house and her parents told her she had to get married before she moved out. She probably could have moved out, but was too scared to go against her culture and defy her parents. I knew people who did the same thing to their kids, and the girls got married young. Fundie parenting is all about control.
  2. No I didn't misunderstand. He had sexual abuse materials of small children; it couldn't be worse than that. All those protections in place did nothing to prevent him from getting the materials! He was able to access porn as a child. His siblings all used computers. Maybe his parents were more responsible than some others, but many mainstream parents manage to raise kids and either set limits or don't have these problems with the children. He had a device and access to the internet and that's really all he needed. What could have been worse about it? He had 65 images. Maybe his collection would have grown if the feds hadn't caught on and raided his warehouse when they did. I see no evidence that the cult or his upbringing made this problem better
  3. If they can get hospital beds or ventilators. There are14 beds left in the state.
  4. I disagree. I'm not sure whether Josh would have turned out this way in a normal family. Maybe he would have, and maybe he wouldn't have. But I strongly disagree that the cult is the best to prevent this kind of abuse. There are so many reason why that is not true. On the one hand, the talk of purity and the false equivocations that all sexual sins are equal means that sexual assaults, child sex abuse material, etc. aren't seen worse as than other "sexual sins". Jessa showed this when she equated regular porn with the materials Josh watched. Secondly the constant spying doesn't work and it teaches people to keep secrets. If everything is taboo, then people learn to hide things. Also it didn't work that they had spy software on the computer Josh was accessing the images. Josh found a way around it. On the other hand, the Duggar kids seem way less supervised than most non-IBLP children. Most kids come from smaller families with fewer children-to-parent ratio, so it's easier for the parents to keep track of them. They got to school, where there are teachers, hall monitors, etc. After school, most kids have activities with more adult supervision. They have many adults to watch them. The Duggars meanwhile had JB who was working, and Michelle was pregnant, and tired and burnt out from having to cook, clean, be pregnant, take of kids, homeschool, etc.
  5. I hope not considering how COVID is exploding in Arkansas.
  6. I thought she was 23, but she's 22 with 2 kids already and high-risk pregnancies. It's sad she didn't get more time to enjoy her youth.
  7. Remember my friend who lost a family member, and I said it might have been preventable. They confirmed he died of COVID-pneumonia. He and his wife seem to be COVID deniers. Please take this (Pandemic) seriously.
  8. No it's bad. Allie is helping way too much. I was an older sister and I "helped" at young ages, but Allie is doing far more than I ever did.
  9. I haven't gotten my hair cut since before COVID.
  10. The sources of the rumors Anna moved in are the DailyMail and the Sun; neither of which I trust. I don't believe that. I am convinced M7 will be named Michelle, but we'll see.
  11. Being on television for over a decade should have given Jessa the money for a new house. Ben was on television a while. Also they seem to own the mold house outright. If they sell it, they can put the money from the mold house towards the new house.
  12. Earlier women in IBLP had to make some effort to cover their necks. If you look at early photos of the Duggars, the women either have collared shirts or scarves on. That seems to have died out certainly since Gothard left.
  13. There was a possible registry leaked and speculated. Here's an article talking about it.
  14. Jill had all Duggars in her wedding party, although Jessa, Jinger, and Joy had non-Duggars in the wedding.
  15. I think Maria is a Dingus. While I think playing in the muddy water is dangerous, unhygentic, and unsafe, I at least understand why she thinks it's looks fun. I could even maybe see other fundies doing it. Jill seems to have gotten worse lately.
  16. Please send good thoughts and prayers to a friend of mine. She lost her stepfather. Out of all my friends, she has lost more loved ones, family members, and friends, etc. I hate that she has gone through so much! His death may have been preventable too, so I'm annoyed about it. I try to think kindly towards people, but I just hate that she has to deal with this when she has so much on her plate. I guess some people can't help it, so RIP the stepfather.
  17. This is pretty common among religious and non-religious. Certainly I saw a lot of this from my fundie-lite friends.
  18. I could see Jana and Stephen having a bigger than average family. 7 or 8 kids closely spaced with more if they have twins. (Michelle had Josie at 43 so Jana could have kids into 40s. Stephen's father has 13 kids.) The fact that he's also from a big fundie family that similar to hers is telling.
  19. The Bates husbands seem like this to me. Particularly Evan. On the other hand, this is why many fundie women like Michelle, like having a headship.
  20. I don't feel sorry for Spurgeon. He has a brother. and he isn't owed another brother. Lots of people only have 1 or 2 siblings or no siblings or siblings of any gender. He'll grow up and get over it.
  21. She didn't look pregnant in the pictures I saw. Maybe she'll take the spotlight from Anna when she has #7, but I'm not sure she's pregnant.
