Counting the cars on the New Jersey Turnpike
They've all come to look for AmericaOh Atissa, digging herself into a hole with those DDs. At least Alex was pulling for her.

NBC showed a different episode tonight. Nothing about Dr. Psycho.
However, new superhero played by the supercute Natalie Morales! Hope to see more of her.

Are you all overthinking the wedding? No, it didn't make sense to have it in California, etc, but I'm sure the writers were more than willing to swallow believability in order to get a wedding into the episode. TV comedies love weddings. Always have. (The Rhoda wedding episode of 1974 was one of the highest rated TV shows ever.) Shakespeare's comedies ended in weddings. Any excuse to get a wedding into a TV comedy and they'll take it.

I hate to see a game end like that.
Otherwise, good second round with Amy rising from negative territory to over 17K.

Abigail = impressive. Would not be surprised is she wins muliple games.
Eric took an admirably big risk on that last DD, but no dice. (As it turned out he wouldn't have won anyway.)

I'm patting myself on the back for getting FJ today. Didn't know it but figured it out.
This is a kind of Final Jeopardy clue I really like. With an educated guess you can get it, and it teaches you something about the world you didn't know. I didn't know Baskin-Robbins offered discounts on the 31st. Next Friday!

underwhelming Monday game.

The actor who played America's father on Ugly Betty appears as her father! Who thinks his Putin portrait is worth over $30! (I really laughed at this.)
Amy's walls came down even more as we get a look at her childhood bedroom.

Yes, easy FJ. I answered Vatican City, too, and while the Vatican may be technically inaccurate, it's the kind of thing they usually allow. Rachel was a very good player but must have had a brain fart when she wrote Saudi Arabia.

I thought that mustache category was going to be about replacements for Alex on Jeopardy.
I love a good come-from-behind! Yay Annie!

Yes, I remember thinking about that distinction watching game shows decades ago. And I figured it was because most of the contestants were from greater Los Angeles that it made it all look more like a nationwide enterprise if they said where the contestants had moved from.
That was back when you had to go to the studio to audition for J! (and other game shows were/are taped in Los Angeles). Nowadays J! takes applications nationwide through an internet test and regional auditions, so they are probably getting a better geographic distribution. Other game shows are less picky in who they let on, so it's more likely that somebody visiting LA on vacation can get on. (And Family Feud is now produced in Atlanta, I think.)

I don't know of any game show even close to as good as J! so I am reluctant to recommend changes, lest they produce unintended consequences.
Sometimes the clues are much too easy. Get rid of some fraction of the easiest clues, especially for FJ.
And maybe fewer tournaments. Especially where the contestants are under age 18, or are "power players" from Washington.

Yes, hard to believe they all missed that easy Final.
Kirstin has won 4 games but her average is under $13000 per game. Alex likes big paydays, Kirstin.

I knew Lilly could pull if off.
I hope they put her in the next TOC so she and Pranjal V. can team up to bring the MIT vibe to a national audience.

The novelty will almost surely wear off, but so far I am really liking this show.

Knowing how much to wager in these two-day affairs is very difficult. Especially on the first day. Nevertheless, I think these kids need to bet more on the Daily Doubles. And probably on FJ, too, even thought they've been doing poorly in FJ the whole tournament.

The cookie story was followed by what may have been an unintentional double entendre from Alex: "I like them....moist"
Ahhh, we make fun of Alex, but we will miss him when he is gone.

The scores are so high in these tournament games. Need to make the clues harder.
Though I am surprised two of three contestants missed FJ today. It occurred to me right away.

I'm rooting for Lilly for the superficial reason that she goes to MIT. The much-hated Pranjal Vachaspati who won six games last fall, graduated from MIT a few years ago, and I graduated a few decades ago, but that's the kind of place where the culture doesn't change much over the years. Both Lilly and Pranjal remind me of MIT people back in my day.
People don't like us. So we have to stick together.

I suspect I live within 20 miles of both Kirstin and Kate. Lot of smarty-pantses around here.

This is shallow, but the new champ is super cute! If I were a nerdy man (instead of a semi-nerdy straight woman), I'd be totally into her. I had no clue for FJ so her right answer impressed me, too.
If we're being shallow, the best looking contestant this week was Lauren on yesterday's show: http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chicagoinc/ct-jeopardy-recap-lauren-michniacki-20170207-story.html

Good game today.
But....Final Jeopardy.
1) I didn't think Hades was hard - got it right away - despite Alex's statement it was a "tough one" and all three contestants missing it.
2) What was with the wagering? Lisa played it right. Matt should have bet (a) nothing or (b) $3401, just enough to cover the others if they bet nothing
Jill should have bet close to everything she had. She lucked out this time but that was not a good wager.

"Most impressive" - Alex Trebek on Lisa.
She's on the leaderboard - one of only 10 contestants since the last TOC with winnings exceeding $100,000. And the only woman among the 10.
(I'm a little surprised they ruled her FJ response wrong today.)

Jeopardy! Season 33 (2016-2017)
in Jeopardy!
The only thing that occurred to me for FJ was Switzerland. Israel never crossed my mind.
Maybe it's my imagination, but I think the Jeopardy writers have stepped things up recently. A year ago we were all complaining about how the clues were too easy. In recent months I haven't noticed that. Either the games are more challenging or my mental abilities have declined (or both.)
The difficulty level is right about where it should be now.
