    Ryan Brady?

    😮

First I've heard of that name!

You missed the excellence that was "santeen" ?    /ha/

Shirley Partridge herself identified John Black as the secret love child of Santo DiMera and Colleen Brady, aka Ryan Brady.  Even though he was decades too young. We later learned that Ryan Brady had also died years earlier and that Colleen was semi delusional while on her deathbed.

John reverted to being an (adopted) Alamain, until he morphed into a Robicheaux (although I guess he still was adopted by Daphne DiMera's sister, Philomena).

  2. LOL

We did the drag thing in Beyond Salem II.  That was enough.

I meant that RSW would be playing both Alex Kiriakis and Ben Weston.

Another site tracks how often RSW films.  He seems to be at the studio way more often than just about anyone else.  Or he just brags about it more.

  3. Sorry, but quoting never seems to work for me...

Yes, I believe the PR for ALM indicated that it was a year-long contract.  Not that it means anything in the real world.

There simply has to be more to this than MasterMind Clyde pulling strings from behind bars.  As I mentioned before,  the show has introduced an entire family of seemingly good people, carefully woven them into the fabric of Salem, and made them generally pleasant townfolk.

We don't know anything about Clyde's wife (other than what Jordan, Ben, and Clyde have said about her.)  Could she still be alive and be the Greene Matriarch? It could explain why RSW is filming at the studio all the time -- if Ben's mother is still alive and he is playing two roles.

And why would the Greenes be so focused on faking out the DiMeras?  For that matter, why in the world would Clyde be so insistent on ALM becoming Mrs Chad DiMera?  And why is John Robicheaux Black involved in this ?

I know folks love to trash Ron, but he has been good at using DOOL history.  Sure, sometimes it misfires (see The New Renee DiMera).  I have been racking my brain trying to figure out who he could pull from the history as Someone Wronged by the DiMeras, because I believe he put ALM in the DiMansion and not in HortonLand.

Another complication is the ages of the Greenes.  They span mid 30s to teens.  So plausibly they would have to be recent DiMera Victims.  Stefano has been dead for awhile.  Same with Andre.  Elvis was away from Salem. Same with Kritter. Stefan/Jake didn't even know they were DiMeras until recently.  And Tony, Anna, and Chad don't do evil.

So Clyde hatches this whole plan because Elvis put him in jail?  That's weak and nonsensical. (and some of you are saying "yup, that's Ron")...

So who are the Greene parents?  I could see that taking a long time to unravel/reveal.

I can think of two somewhat recent DiMera Victims.  Both are dead.  Could they have been happily involved with Mother Green?

Benji Hawk.  When he was murdered in 2007, he allegedly only had a baby son.  So seems unlikely.  There is peripheral John Black involvement, although I suspect Ron would have used Steve/Kayla since they raised Benji for an extended time.

Bart Biederbecke.  We know nothing of his backstory.  Could he have been married/divorced from Mother Greene and had four off-screen children? Andre murdered him in 2007, so the Greene kids might want some revenge. John and Bart have history too.

Yes, outlandish speculation for sure.  And likely still doesn't explain why these four nice Greene kids are in Salem.

    Oh well.

  4. I have mixed feelings about a Bo and Hope return.  Sure, getting Bo out of the coma is needed. Past returns have been frustrating because the show has spent most of the time having them apart.  They spend 10-15 episodes apart and reunite for a handful of episodes, and then the return is over and <poof> they go off-screen.

I wonder if the show will tie the return to the "forgotten" metal time capsule that no one seems to know how too open (uh, blowtorch, welding cut), since the Puzzle Box was key to the Gina-is-Hope story. Could the contents of that box somehow link to Fake Abigail?

Bo and Hope were at their best when working on some type of crime/mystery.

The show has laid a rather extensive groundwork on the Fake Abigail story.  An imprisoned John Black, a doctor brother, younger siblings, Jack believing, Jennifer disbelieving, Clyde pulling strings behind the scenes.  But why?

Everyone is thinking this is a DiMera story.  What if it is a Horton story? And Bo and Hope help wrap it up....

  5. I have never gotten the impression that The View is financially challenged.  They seem to recoup enough dollars via the twice weekly (?) View Your Deals.

Even after all these decades, Whoopi remains an A-list Hollywood star.  I don't see an America clamoring for shows hosted by some rando ABC News correspondent.  I do think Whoopi helps bring the big name stars to the show.  Would DeNiro show up for The View with JuJu Chang?

The View folks have repeatedly said their current host mix is one of their better incarnations. The show will eventually need a replacement host, since Sara, Sunny, and Alyssa do not seem interested in that role.

Also, the quality of Joy's Friday moderating has declined significantly in the past year. And I have loved Joy for nearly 30 years. She seems lost or confused much more often. She seems to have re-focused her career/goals/life, so I am not sure how much longer she will even want to do the show. Maybe she wants to make Season Thirty?

The last moderator that The View tried to introduce was Paula Faris, an experiment which ended almost as soon as it started.

  6. Yup, the show is preempted in many markets due to the Olympics, so it would be a good time for Kelly to take vacation.  Folks tend to forget that the show is syndicated to ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX stations across the country.  It's a WABC production, with the majority of affiliates being ABC, but not all.

Sacramento may be the largest TV market where the show airs on non-ABC.  NBC affiliate KCRA has had "Live" since the Regis and Kathie Lee days.

  7. The show's website has a Ticket option, so it's easy to determine "vacation" time.

July audiences are/were needed for every MON-TUE-WED in July.  Some dates are sold out. And there is a stray THU thrown in (July 18). In addition to "double episode days", they are likely taping the 10-minute Host Chats needed when the show goes dark in August.

The tape schedule means that WABC does not have to pay union wages for the support staff two days a week.  Letterman began this two decades ago when he started taping a Friday show on Monday.  The View does the same thing during the summer, taping Friday on Thursday.   Hoda and Kathie Lee did it for years too. (Have never watched Jenna, but they probably still do it).

The later tapings a couple times a week also allows them to book guests who aren't willing/able to be on-set at 920A.

Tamron, Sherri, Jennifer, and KellyClarkson all go into reruns for the summer, with maybe an occasional "all new" (pretaped) show.

Honestly, I think that when Ryan left, the taping schedule has become more consistent.  Working around his schedule made it seem that the pre-tapes happened on odd days.

...she failed to mention Regis and the fact that he gave her the opportunity to sit herself in the host chair and the rest is history.  She seriously has forgotten where she came from and her one big break was REGIS!

Regis Philbin did not hire Kelly.  Art Moore and Michael Gelman hired her.  She works for WABC, which produces the show for syndication.  Sure, they sought input from all the staff, including Regis.  But he did not give her anything except an amiable on-screen partner.

As Regis discovered during his final contract negotiation, he was merely the "talent", 100% replaceable.

At some point, Kelly (and Mark) will find that out as well.

Although I imagine they already have mapped out a Retirement Plan, depending on the lengths of their existing contract.  Though winning Emmys and being #1 rated is going to keep WABC extending offers.

All the while Kellmeeee sat next to Reege, she was disgusted with him

Could you please cite when she indicated this "disgust".

She had disagreements with how the old man treated her - no office, no support staff. demeaning nickname "Pippa" because his brain cells were so gone he couldn't even remember her name.

WABC was eager to show Regis the door when he wanted more cash.  That wasn't Kelly's fault.

And isn't DOOL hanging on by a thread?

True, nothing is ever forever, but DOOL regularly shows up in the Top 5 series on Peacock.  It's renewed until at least September 2025.  I'm not sure that defines it as "hanging on by a thread".

The future will depend on what happens to Peacock.  NBC is always going to need a streaming service to show its sporting events, its Olympics coverage, and replay its primetime schedule.  They need content to fill in the gaps.  DOOL was likely moved to Peacock to help provide content.

  11. The "advance" filming gets out of whack every year.  There will be multiple dark weeks throughout the summer that will shorten that. Jason47 has tracked this for years.

    http://www.jason47.com/days/productionschedule.html

A quick glance shows 10-20 dark weeks/year in the past decade.  Tracking by year is somewhat awkward, since the show transitioned to Seasons that begin in mid-September (which doesnt make much sense now that the show airs on Peacock).

This aggressive taping is what allegedly kept DOOL alive on NBC.  There is significant cost savings by having more dark weeks and filming so many episodes each week.  Presumably that is still true for Peacock.

  12. Hulu seems to load the show by 7PM PT.  Sometimes, the Friday episode is there at roughly 5PM PT.

One added perk is that the commercial breaks are just 90 seconds, and often only 30 seconds.

  13. That seems to be in-style this season.  I have been to several nice venues on the west coast and all the decor is "classic" ie silvers and golds and faded blues, with white lights.

I am used to shopping malls and casinos and performance centers with big huge red and green decor, with multi-colored lights flashing, so I am missing those celebratory (admittedly loud) colors.

  14. The preview only covers the last 7-8 weeks of actual legit writers.  The strike hit while Ron was working on XMAS. We have no idea what direction was taken in the 2024 shows.  I've seen some speculation that the replacement writing staff basically kept things on hold, but who knows what the legit writing team found when they returned.

That may have limited what could be featured in a "new season" promo.

Also, given that the show has just escaped Alarr Control, we may see some changes or transitions.

Blake Berris as the new season "returnee" could be a masterstroke.....unless he gets roped into silly nonsensical corporate storylines.
