  1. Nigel finally got his male contemporary dancer winner. That hasn't happened since Season 1 despite his best efforts and manipulations.
  2. One could arguable do a jive to "Rockin' Robin".
  3. If memory serves, Allison did an interview at some point stating that being introduced to Ballroom through SYTYCD was a revelation to her and she started taking lessons and working with Dimitry and Heidi (I think).
  4. Deatails about Wednesday's show: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2014/08/11/so-you-think-you-can-dance-to-feature-exclusive-preview-of-michael-jacksons-music-video-for-a-place-with-no-name-august-13/292213/
  5. Sadly, I think the only people who really remember that, are on this board.
  6. Last I heard, it was Dominic from Season 3 (D-Trix).
  7. I think SYTYCD should do what The Voice did this year and have a Twitter vote at the end of the to determine who stays. Let the dancers do the DFYL, trot out a depressingly bad musical act, a couple of commercials, Nigel congratulating himself on his own awesomeness and relevance in the history of dance, and then the results.
  8. Love the new title. Stroke of creative brilliance. Seriously, the lighting, costuming and direction on this show have been a trainwreck for most of its life span. I think the "we need to win an Emmy" mentality has resulted in trying too hard to be edgy, creative, brilliant, whatever. At the end of the day, it is just a great big stinking pile of too much . . . .
  9. I don't even know where to begin. First off, when did the All-Stars start leaving the contestants at the end of the routines? I didn't watch last season, but if memory serves, Season 9 had the All-Stars stay with the contestants during "judging". I hate that the dance is done and the All-Star exits stage left. It seems so Wham!Bam!Thankyoumaam!! On what planet did anyone think it would be a good idea to do the results individually after the contestants danced? How about pull them all together at the end of the show and announce who is going home? Why do they keep having Christina Perri sing live? She is awful. Does she not know how to lip sync? Emilio and Jasmine - Enjoyed the choreography, enjoyed the performance. HATED the costumes. Poor Jasmine looked like she had a load in her pants the whole time. That's just so wrong. And these people won an Emmy? Tanisha and Ryan - I love Ryan. I love ballroom when it is done by adults and not kids playing dress-up(I'm lookng at you Rudy and Jenna). Maybe I'm jaded, but it seemed a little dance-lite, lift-heavy for an Argentine Tango, but it was significantly better than most anything else I've seen this season. Valerie and Ade - Ugh. That was so bad on so many levels. The choreography was just plain awful. Nothing redeeming about whatsoever. I'm not making excuses for Valerie, but seriously Dude Whose Name is Not to be Uttered, choreograph for the dancer. You know Valerie is a puddle of rainbows and sunshine and puppies. Do NOT ask her to be super bitchface diva. Do serious, do sad, bitch is not in her repetoire. Twitch and Jessice - I enjoyed this. I thought it was entertaining. It was cotton candy. Zack and Amy - I've seen this before. At least once a week every summer since 2008ish. Both danced it well, but it was wash, rinse, repeat for me. Jacque and Chehon - love Chehon. Thought he carried Jacque around the stage nicely. Would have like to see something other than that though. I wonder if anyone at the New York City Ballet has been informed that Travis Wall is going to choreograph for them? Did they laugh out loud or simply throw up a little in their mouth? Ricky and Lauren - Agree that Lauren looked trashy. Danced beautifully - looked trashy. I blame her boyfriend. Ricky is a beautiful technician. He is not a performer or entertainer. The seasons that I have loved, have had serious performers/entertainers - Benji, Natalie, Danny, Pasha, Anya, Lacey, Courtney, tWitch, Joshua, Jeanine, Brandon, Jeanette, Jess, Kent, LoFro. This season is light on entertainers and heavy on people dancing IMO. I just don't find any of the dancers particularly engaging.
  10. I didn't watch last season so I need some clarification Are the all-stars announced tonight the only ones we are going to see all season or are they just the all-stars for next week? The judges pretty much told us who they were saving right from the beginning so no shock, but I would have preferred that Cary stay and either Serge or Teddy since Casey is pretty much a non-entity to me. I noticed that Adechicke was one of the Dance Day leaders. Given that he was treated like he stinky stuff on the bottom of Mia's shoe for the better part of his season, I'm surprised that he would have any affiliation with the show. I guess he's a better person than I. Group dances - Super big awesome Rob Zombie song used on SYTTYCD - Awesome. Frenetic Paso Doble done to said Rob Zombie Song - Not Awesome Happy Contemporary Dances where no one is left lying on the ground heartbroken - Awesome Another 2 contemporary dances instead of any other genre - Not Awesome An entire show where I didn't actively HATE any of the dances - Awesome Another show where Nigel (and probably Mary - but I FF'd through her most of the time) made me want to throw my TV against the wall- NOT AWESOME. This show really would be great if Nigel wasn't on the panel. I vote that Dan Karaty be brought back to take Nigel's place on the judging table.
  11. I truly believe that this is one of the biggest problems of the show. The contestants don't necessarily train to be dancers, they train to be on So You Think You Can Dance. I started watching in Season 2 and very few of those dancers were as seriously cross trained as the dancers in the past few seasons seem to have been. If you work hard to be passable at everything, you're never truly going to be good or great at one thing and all these kids seem to be watered down versions of one of the previous seasons' greats. I would rather watch Kent Boyd destroy a cha cha with Anya than most of what has been shown this season. The second biggest issue is making the choreographers responsible for making the dancers look good and ultimately the voting results. Choreography has become about generating votes and not necessarily challenging the dancers with real choreography that takes the dancer out of their comfort zones. Seeing Alex Wong kill hip hop. Watching Allison and Ivan redeem themselves with their Argentine Tango. Katee and Joshua Bollywood. Benji and Donyelle hip hop. Those are the moments that have been missing for a while. Or maybe nothing about the show has really changed and all us long time viewers are suffering from nostalgia. Much like my mother believes life was better in the 50's (pretty sure it wasn't), we are all thinking things were better in Season 2 or 3 or 4 or 5. Most of us "lifers" thought the end was near in Season 4 with Twitch and definitely thought Molly was the first sign of the apocalypse (and btw - no matter how horrible Teddy and Emily were - they can not even compete for worst salsa against Molly and Nathan!) and bemoaned the lack of anything redeeming in Season XXX (take your pick).
  12. Mary and Nigel switched spots. My spidey senses tell me that Misty didn't think getting a shriek in the ear every two and a half minutes was fierce and demanded the seat changes. Of course, trying to pick between the shriek and the letch is a tough call and I'm not sure if she made the right one. I don't think the judges could have been more obvious about who was going home this week. I called it right after Stanley danced. Bus - meet Stanley and Jourdan. I really wanted Emily and Teddy to go. Teddy kind of gives me the creeps and Emily just bugs. Brooklyn needs to be off my TV soon. She is vapid. Completely without personality. The Pablum of dancers. I want to like Tanisha but she looks too much like my step-monster. I have no strong feelings one way or the other about any of the other dancers. I'm waiting to be WOWED. I enjoyed the dancing more this week than last week. Of course, I enjoyed my last trip to the dentist more than the dancing last week. Yay Dee Caspery!! Yay new choreographers will cool names that I can't remember!!! Yay Broadway guy!!! Yay Pasha and Anya!!!! Double Yay for Pasha and Anya!!! WTF did Lacey do to her face??? Maybe saying the NAME three times isn't the summoning spell but a wish and every time it is said, he does an additional number - so STOP IT!!!
  13. So, to completely change the subject and go out there in terms of SYTYCD gossip history . . . Back in Season 3, Pasha was paired with a dancer named Jessie or something similar who missed a week due to illness, came back for the results show and danced for her life and was unceremoniously booted without preamble or conversation. Mayhem, gossip, finger pointing, hand wringing ensued. While there was speculation and accusations galore, I don't ever recall if anyone ever knew or reported what actually happened BTS. Anyone out there know the truth? Just curious.
  14. I FLOVE The Turning Point. Recommend it highly. Even more highly than White Nights (which I love slightly less).
  15. Spoilers for tomorrow night's show??? Anyone? I know that it being live makes it difficult, but I am really not cool with being surprised if the surprising is concocted by Nigel Lithgoe and his band of flying monkeys.
