  1. After the last two episodes, I feel this season has entered the phase every season entered with me. The 'Fast Forward Through the Scenes That Mean Nothing and Get to The Scenes That You Slightly Care About' phase. In this case, the scenes I currently care most about are the ones connected to The Milkman. Not saying Jughead's scenes are watchable, just anything that moves the snail pace discovery of The Milkman along. The fact we have had two back-to-back 'Spinning the Wheel to Fill Time' episodes just goes to show why Season 1 worked well, with only 13 episodes, they didn't have to pad the main story out as much as they are doing with a regular length broadcast tv series. Still not a fan of Toni, wanting to keep Cheryl at a distance after chasing her and demanding Cheryl be honest to herself. And those Book Club scenes really reminded me why I don't participate in any type of book club. Mainly cause I'm a person who is content to say they liked or disliked a book and move on haha. And based on how this season seems happy to throw every combination possible together (even if in fantasy sequence), I half expected that Archie and Reggie were going to jump into the backseat of the car they were fighting over and start making out. As fun as it has been seeing these characters in the 1950s, for the sake of the longtime fan I hope they return to the present soon so the show can have a decent logical (for this show) closure. It almost feels like the writers have forgotten that Tabitha is trying to work out how to get them home.

After reading the explanation, it appears punctuation would have helped in that original tweet, it should be: A new 'draw your ship' prompt just dropped. Otherwise, it feels like someone translated a non-English phrase into English using a dodgy Google Translate program. Because I had no idea what was being said until it was explained.
  3. I honestly have no idea. But as a teacher in Australia, I heard no buzz today about The Little Mermaid from my students, so perhaps it's true that it is flopping internationally. My TikTok feed would indicate its doing big business hence my question of Is It? cause maybe Disney is paying for MermaidTok to be pushed out to drum up business.
  4. Is it? I did a quick google of 'Is The Little Mermaid flopping?' and while reports about it struggling at China's box office pop up, there are also other reports saying it's the best opening for a live action adaptation by Disney at the US box office.
  5. Another Spinning The Wheel episode, as I call the episodes in this season that really don't add anything to the bigger picture, but it just 'fun' for the actors and writers. Luckily the final scene of the episode means we are returning to the murder mystery of the season. I'm still convinced that in order to move forward in time, all the characters have to end up in a similar situation where they were at the end of Season 6. But being honest, as someone who has dipped in and out the last 4 seasons, I have no idea what the end girl would be, apart from Veronica being a teenage business owner. And I hope with Betty calling out Dr. Wethers and his creeping obsession with teenage sexuality that's the end of that plot and he can return to wanting to destroy comic books.
  6. I admit I was really hesitant to watch this. I couldn't understand why we were getting a prequel for what was essentially a minor supporting character instead of Season 3. But then, my mum told me she was watching it and recommended watching it and I thought maybe I should since I was the one who recommended Bridgerton to my parents. And then my best friend said she was enjoying, so I caved, and I am so glad I did. One of my big concerns holding me back was concern of the potential historical accuracy, but when the show started with the disclaimer 'While based on real people we've made stuff up cause it's a drama not a documentary' card I was able to chill and enjoy the ride. I was not expecting to be a mess with that final scene under the bed but kudos to everyone involved in creating that moment. From what I can gather the real George & Charlotte loved one another despite his condition and that came through with this show. I also didn't expect to get so caught up with Brimsley & Reynolds. And truth be told, I was more invested in their relationship that George & Charlotte. I think because they were fictional characters, I was more invested because I didn't know how their relationship was going to end. That dance scene got me quite teary, because they were so happy and free in that moment and then boom Brimsley is dancing by himself after he had that little discussion with The Queen about never marrying. I hope we get to find out what happened to Reynolds in S3 of Bridgerton. That's the only closure I need from this limited series. And as others said, I don't need a second season of this as it concluded perfectly. If they didn't have that bed scene, a second season would be justified, but I can't think of a better end to George & Charlotte's story than that. It was also nice to see the older ladies of Bridgerton be given storylines that didn't revolve around marrying off their offspring. In Bridgerton, there is no room for their story to be given the attention it needs, so this series was the perfect place to do that exploration.
  7. I almost thew my can of Pepsi Max at the TV screen with this moment. Toni spends 3 episodes trying to drag her crush out of the closet so she could have some fun, and then emotionally manipulates Cherly into admitting who she really is only to turn around and say 'You know what, I don't actually want this'. Cheryl was the same person in the closest as she was outside, so not sure why Toni's revelation was presented as some kind of epiphany. The only thing Cheryl did 'wrong' was wanting to go steady. The writers dropped the ball on this plot, they could have Cheryl at least point out to Toni she came out for her. And I agree, people are way too casual about outing each other in the 1950s. I mean I think Archie is the only one who has kept the secret and not blabbed to anyone. Speaking of Archie, I am loving this version of him in the 50sverse. He is so naive and wholesome it's ridiculous but also very true to a comic character in the 1950s. In fact, I would say for the first time in this series, the characters actually feel like the comic characters they are based on, especially with their looks. Great to have Reggie back, if only because of the fact he is one of the main 5 in the comics so now the series back to being based on Archie comics, felt wierd not having him around when so many others had fringe moments. Plus, his return meant someone finally had a legit reason for punching Julian in the face. Wish he would take the lead of Jason and shut up. My favourite tiny moment of the episode.
  8. In the original verse, it turned out that Jason and Cheryl were actually triplets and that Julian was absorbed in the womb. That's what my memory says anyway. I can only imagine they weren't able to get the actor who plays Jason back for this season, and that's why Julian exists in 50s verse. Considering they got Bret back for the most random of cameos, does anybody know if there are plans for Moose and/or Josie and the Pussycats to make an appearance before the show concludes? Pretty sure these are the only ones who haven't appeared in the 50s verse yet.
  9. Late reply to last week so will try to keep it short. Good to see the writers are still obsessed with teenagers owning business and I've decided to stop watching Riverdale since it's a tv show, it's only movies on the big screen for me. In all seriousness, with Veronica buying the cinema, I wonder that in order to get back to the present the characters are going to have to end up in a similar situation where there were before time travelling, so Veronica needs to be a businesswoman. It's the only explanation I can think of for that stupid cinema plot. I don't know, I just need all this 50s plot to have a point in the final season. Kevin's storyline seemed really out of order. I felt that a lot of that talk about who Kevin is and the speculation needed to happen before he spoke to Betty, even before he was seen dancing with Clay. It just felt odd placing that plot into this episode. I probably would have had most of Kevin's plot occur in a prior episode and have the speculation cause him to admit who he is to Betty at the end of the episode. Then pick up this episode with the locker room talk about losing your virginity, Archie tells Betty, Archie saves the day, Archie shows Clay and Kevin he is an ally (Archie's processing of all the news on Kevin was fantastic). Then maybe in this episode, we see Clay and Kevin being confident to dance in public. I don't know but it felt weird everyone speculating about Kevin in this episode. Glad they remembered about the milkman. Looking forward to Reggie finally appearing, and while I don't care about Tabitha at least it may progress the time travel plot.
  10. Semi-Final 2 was vastly different to Semi-Final 1. I've seen people say the songs were weaker but I'm not sure that was the case. Not as memorable probably but not weaker, if that makes sense. I was really disappointed in the live translation of Who The Hell Is Edgar? It just lacked some oomph but...here in Australia we get a replay of the live shows during Primetime. And they had Semi Final 1 last night and Queen of Kings sounded better than I remembered. So maybe, I'm not getting the best experience at 5am in the morning with the TV not as loud. Will have to check out the Semi Final 2 replay tonight to see if Edgar has more oomph to it that what I remember. My favourite was Cyprus. And since he is actually an Aussie, I'm pretending he is our entry this year. Loved the vocals, loved the presentation and loved the lack of sleeves. And considering he is a full blown Aussie, born and raised in Sydney, I feel disappointed for him that he isn't getting more coverage for making the final. He is basically a footnote to the Aussie entry - 'Oh by the way Cyprus made the final and he is an Aussie, anyway back to the breaking news of what socks out footy players wear'. I honestly hope he places higher than Australia in the Grand Fina In regard to our entry, our commentators were frothing at the mouth with how amazing the staging was and how they rocked the crowd blah blah blah. But truthfully the song jsut isn't my cup of tea. Is it the worst we've sent. Definitely not, but it's not the greatest thing we have sent either like the media here is trying to portray. They are probably just happy we didn't send a reality tv contestant again. And after two semis I have come to 3 conclusions about the show this year 1. Hot Pink is the new White 2. People are trying way way too hard to replicate the SloMo dance break from last year. 3. I want pre-recorded vocals banned again. Even if it means the loss of dance routines.
  11. I have been pumping that song on my car stereo all week, its such a banger. My only concern is it doesn't translate to a live performance. Fingers crossed it achieves what Cha Cha Cha did live. Cause if it does, the crowd will go off I reckon.
  12. After watching Semi Final 1, I still don't understand why the Eurovision community is totally gaga over Tattoo. Yes, it's a quality song, but it still sounds like a cheap knock off of Euphoria and the performance left me feeling almost cold. Compared to something like Cha Cha Cha that was just bursting with energy or the song from Malta that just felt fun. I know Tattoo isn't a 'fun' song, but Switzerland managed to make their song have emotion whereas Tattoo felt routine and Loreen just going through the emotion. I think Finland is putting everything into their performance to try to win, while Sweden is resting on the presumption, they have it locked in the bag. There were a few songs that lost some of their energy live compared to their recorded version - Ireland's singer looked exhausted, Latvia lost something in their live translation and Norway felt like a totally different song. Out of the qualifying songs, I am stoked Switzerland went through. I was worried with the semis being 100% televoting that it would get lost amongst the fun/crazy songs. It felt the most like a song the jury would lap up and the public would be 'eh its good but I'm not voting for it'
  13. Maybe the final scene should be the comet hitting Riverdale and killing everybody. That way no one ends up with anyone and every ship can be disappointed.
  14. Glad Cheryl finally admitted to Toni that she is attracted to female because it means the writers can finally drop the storyline of Toni 'helping' Cheryl to come out. There's a difference between subtley letting someone know that it's ok to be who you are and them determining when it's time to speak their truth (e.g. how Clay handled Kevin) and then there is Toni standing at Cheryl's closet trying to drag her out by her limbs while Cheryl holds onto the winter jackets and then letting go and stumbling out of the closet because she was emotionally manipulated into admitting how she felt. And then Toni decided to out Clay and Kevin to Cheryl. And considering they've been absent for 2 weeks; I doubt Toni asked permission to reveal that side of them to Cheryl. I feel like the writers pick and choose when they want to remember they are stuck in the 50s. And both ga y storylines are evidence they forgot. Speaking of being stuck in the 1950s, I'm predicting that Jughead's comic book storyline is eventually going to hold the key to transporting them back to the present, assuming that's where they end up by the final episode. Because the writers don't seem to be making any progress with that plot, like how hard is it to even have a random scene of Tabitha doing whatever she is doing to remind the audience that technically that's the point of this season. So now that they've proven Jughead and Ethel couldn't have killed the Muggses, is that storyline dropped because its more important banning comic books than catching a killer? And I just don't care about the romantic end game for Archie, Betty and Veronica. This is the first episode of the season from a plot point of view (I don't count last week's detour as part of the continuum) that I lost interest in. I feel it's a bit early to start spinning the wheel with the story, especially if they are affected by the strike and get their episode count reduced. Does anyone know if the series has finished filming? Or will it be affected by the strike? But I'll keep going, because next week's attempt at their version of is sure to cause major eyerolling from me and possibly some laughs equal to the locker talk that occurred between Archie and Betty this week. I would love to know how many takes that took.
  15. I'm not a massive fan of these Disney live action remakes. I understand why they exist from a business standpoint but I generally just find it lazy moviemaking. But the one thing I am excited about with this particular remake is hearing all the songs with a fuller orchestra. While I may have some issues with some of the creative choices they gave Halle in singing some of the words (I will never like that above-ove-ove-ove at the end), it was wonderful to hear Part Of Your World with such a rich sounding orchestra. Looking forward to what Menken does with the score.
  16. *checks calendar to confirm it is April and not October* So, Riverdale does Treehouse of Horror. Which basically makes the episode pointless and easily skippable. Except for the bookends which reveal the breakup of Jughead and Veronica after one episode and that some old white men have an obsession with banning comic books. I guess 23 episodes is too much for these writers, so they have to fill the quota with these disposable episodes. While I guess it's fun to write and fun to act, I didn't find it enjoyable to watch. It just reminded me of why I gave up on Riverdale in the first place.
  17. Apparently in California (or Los Angeles - where this was set I believe) you can volunteer to do jury duty. Well that's what I saw on a TikTok video addressing the issue. I have no idea if correct but it makes sense. You answer the casting call, get picked and then go in and volunteer as tribute for a case to get the show rolling. The last comment from Ronald on the show about how he has just realised it means he still could get called up to do jury duty confirms the idea he volunteered to get it over and done with.
  18. Are Eric's parents alive in this movie or are they just flashbacks? Cause I always assumed in the original that Eric was the head of his little kingdom (or principality to be technical). Like Prince Albert of Monaco. Honestly thought Eric was a stereotypical Disney characters - parentless.
  19. I think this is why I felt Kevin's storyline has felt rushed, I just don't see Kevin going from being confused about the feelings Clay is stirring up within him and dating Betty last episode to suddenly happily dancing in public with a male and telling Betty this is who I am. It may not have felt so jarring if it happened in Episode 6 or something. But we definitely needed some moments with Clay talking to Kevin about being gay etc. But of course, that would require the writers acknowledging that Kevin is more than a random plot point when needed, and in this case, they needed Kevin to be out so Betty could get with Archie. In the 1950s, he would have pushed his feelings deep down and did whatever it took to be 'normal' with Betty. Assuming we return to the present, it will be interesting to see what they do with Kevin and Clay (assuming Clay comes along for the ride and Moose is around) I haven't been a fan of Toni's insistence that Cheryl needs to embrace her inner gay. Never a fan of one gay character insisting another gay character needs to come out because they want them to. Compare Clay's approach with Kevin to Toni's approach to Cheryl. One is gently telling the other that you aren't alone in feeling the way you do and basically I'll help you if and when you want it and the other one is basically dragging the person out of the closet screaming at them 'You are gay!! And I want to jump you' And in reality, the writers are hoping we won't mind Toni's approach because we as an audience have inside knowledge of a pre-existing relationship and the writers are hoping we still want to see them together. I honestly thought that's where they were going to go when Toni offered to help Betty cope with dumping Kevin. The best thing that could have happened from that scenario is that maybe Toni would stop her harassment of Cheryl.
  20. The final episode hit me with so many feels. Honestly, was not expecting that. I absolutely loved this show. Was it utterly hilarious? No. But I don't think it was meant to be. It still needed to feel real so Ron wouldn't start questioning what was happening. And they really did luck out with choosing Ron to be their everyday man. I don't think the show would have had the same charm if they chose someone with a different temperament and personality like Ron. I think the best thing about the show is they weren't trying to humiliate Ron and make him the butt of jokes, or make him out to look stupid for not knowing it was fake. I liked all the bonus footage, like James returning with a second cake, that was shown in the final episode. The final episode was a great 'reunion' episode and the perfect way to end the series And even though it was all staged, I can't believe how invested I was in the counting of liable/non-liable voted (Kudos to James for his Z joke) I think my favourite moment from Ron was the very end when he realised he could still be called up to do jury duty since this duty doesn't count. Will definitely recommend the show to all my friends.
  21. And here I was thinking the Riverdale writers were just being wacky with the frog pregnancy test. The more you know. So glad that Cheryl didn't go through with the marriage to Archie, although I often forget that the 50s solution to premarital sex was to get married and that it was more common 'solution' than not. Will be interesting if Midge's parents take the same approach when her pregnancy is revealed (assuming we haven't jumped back to the future by then). While it's great that Kevin is back out of the closet, I'm not totally thrilled with the speed it happened or how it happened. I think I would have preferred to see the scene where Clay comforts Kevin after Betty breaks up with him, then hearing Kevin tell Betty about it. I also don't feel Kevin would go from being deeply closeted, crying over being dumped and then dancing publicly with a man in a venue that is exactly a secret gay club which increases the chance of being seen. I will admit I thought Betty telling Kevin that their relationship wasn't a waste time was sweet, but I was also expecting the writers to have a better coming out moment for Kevin than what they delivered. While I have never really cared about the relationships between Archie/Betty/Veronica/Jughead, I'm not sure I really approve of Veronica/Jughead hooking up any more than Archie/Cheryl. It just feels like the writers have looked at the relationship board and decided to use this time travel to hook up characters for no other reason than because they haven't already done it. Not sure why Veronica and Jughead couldn't just remain friends. But then again, television really doesn't like the idea that straight men and women can just be friends. Is it bad that I want Daddy Blossom to repeat what he did in Season 1 to Jason, with Julian? Out of all the new characters they've bought in I can't stand him. He is such a one-dimensional bad guy.
  22. Holy Moses! Why? Anybody else here remember when 120 minutes meant the movie was an epic? They've added nearly an hour of extra stuff and I'm struggling to think what needed to be added. I'm guessing the final battle will be a 30 minute war epic.
  23. Why this show believes Emily and Gabriel should be end game I don't know why. It reminds me of what happened in Love, Victor. Just because the couple got together in the first season doesn't mean they are destined to be by the final episode of the show (especially when hoops have to be jumped through to get there). I find Gabriel more palatable when he is Emily's friend guiding her through French life with gentle ribbing, when he is with Emily as a love interest, he is boring. Alfie is (well could be if the writers wanted him to be) such a better match for Emily - at least I feel there is chemistry. And I know I am slow to this, but why are Emily's clothes so much more extravagant than everyone elses? I know it's just a show, but its jarring when it's obvious she can't afford those clothes and she is only wearing them so the show can show off the fashion (it's not Devol Wears Prada. Everyone else at the dinner launch were in regular dinner party clothes and Emily was sticking out with her loofah inspired outfit. Anyway, enough bitching. This is mindless fluff perfect for my holiday. And I need less Camille and Mindy drama and more Luc and Julien airtime please.
  24. Just went to the scene and paused and you are correct it is the John Fowles book.
  25. I thought maybe I had hallucinated the banner. Glad I didn't. I'm actually disappointed in myself that at no point while studying my entomology units at university did I ever describe it to my friends and family as it being the bee's knees.
