  1. Welcome back Josie and congrats on your Tony Award. Although based on that one song that was performed from the movie, I don't think Going Uptown would interest me, but that song was heaps better than the song performed at The Dark Room. I found it interesting that they decided to make Josie older in the 1950s than regular Riverdale. Lots of throwback references across the Archieverse. Not only did we get the anvil hit of Sabrina, but we got an Alexander Cabot mention, a picture of Fred Andrews and I assume Charles Clayton who was playing Macbeth opposite Josie's Lady Macbeth was a reference to Chuck? I am so so glad, the show decided to not replay the original plot with Mrs. Grundy in this timeline. And how dare Archie write about his dad without his uncle's permission! What was Archie thinking? It's still mindboggling that with 3 episodes left to go, it seems the writers really do not care that this is the last season from a narrative point of view. They just seem to want to write their favourite story pitch as a stand-alone episode, to hell with giving the audience any sort of meaningful closure. As crazy as the plots were in Glee's final season, you could at least see the writers had a vision for concluding their 6 seasons with purpose. The way this show is heading, the credits will roll on the final season, and we will all just be grateful to be done with the show and not recall the final episode at all. If I've done my maths correctly, 86-year-old Betty would place the final episode in 2017 which is the year Riverdale debuted. So maybe there is same framing device that will make the first 6 seasons a retelling of Betty's teenage years which would explain all the old-time stuff appearing in a modern setting (you know confused memories of an old person) - although for that to truly work Betty should have been narrating the show from the beginning. Although honestly, I feel they are just making her old so they can justify having a goodbye montage of memories somewhere to feature all the characters that have been on the show.
  2. Yeah, this was an issue I had with that scene. I understood that there was a code back in the 1950s, but the show presents that part of history as being the brainchild of a school counsellor who holds sway over the entire nation, instead of just influencing the Riverdale district. The show definitely made it clear that it was the school council who came up with the code the Riverdale printers were to abide by, not that they were passing on the information developed by a larger more influential committee.
  3. As a standalone season, I don't mind all these basically standalone episodes that don't progress an overall plot. And as a casual fan, it really doesn't bother me that big picture wise this show is heading to a very unsatisfying ending for a 7-season long show. I can only imagine how disappointed the diehard fans must be feeling about the story this season. Although I have a feeling the comic book storyline is going to play into the ending of this show somehow and it will be presented as giving us closure to the present-day Riverdale. The Reggie/Archie storyline while entertaining, it resulted in the show falling into the classic TV trope where 2 supposedly straight guys can't be seen exploring their sexuality on screen but if they were female, we would have at least got a kiss on screen. With Josie returning in the next episode, that really only leaves Moose and Jason as the only teenage characters, who made regular appearances in the past 6 seasons, not to have appeared yet in the final season.
  4. I'll be back with my thoughts later but thought I would just pop in to let people know that there are no mid or end credit scenes for the series. But the one thought I will share is I was disappointed not to see Sharon Carter as one of the captives. I was hoping they'd reveal that Sharon at the end of TFATWS was a Skrull.
  5. I quite enjoyed this episode and as saccharine as the lyrics were I really enjoyed the song Ethel sang. And you just know if this season was set in the present, she would have sang Never Enough from The Greatest Showman. As much as I'm enjoying this season (the best since Season 1 imo), I do feel for the fans who have persevered through 7 seasons to only be given a final season of randomness that clearly has no interest in tying up 6 seasons of 'character development' or even the time travel plot. I will give the writers credit though; they are at least still having fun writing for the show unlike the vibe the Glee writers were giving in that show's final season. I hope so, because at the moment whenever Jughead has a scene with any of the main cast members, I get distracted from the shock I feel that he is sharing a scene and interacting with them. Haha.
  6. I was kinda hoping S7 would be the end so I could be done with the show. Maybe some of the new characters in S7 will convince me that S8 is a good idea. Because at the moment, I don't think S7 is a good idea - although I will be watching.
  7. Based upon how the guy on the plane was introduced, I assumed I was meant to be giddy with excitement with his appearance/cameo. And then when Sonya said Fury's disguise was a widow veil (or something like that) I assumed the Plane Guy appeared in the Black Widow movie. So headed to Wikipedia and it confirms that's where he is from, he is Mason, not that that rings a bell. While this isn't a bad show, I worked out my issue with the series, it honestly feels like a movie chopped up into 6 parts. Definitely not a TV show with 6 episodes. Oh and is The Harvest a thing from the comics or just an MCU thing? I really don't understand why Fury thought it a good idea to collect Avengers blood instead of just cleaning up the blood. What was the purpose?
  8. Is this the first time an MCU character has referred to The Blip as The Snap?
  9. I remember before Hawkeye was released, they had announced the Echo show because production was impressed with the actress/character. I tuned into Hawkeye expecting to be blown away by the character of Echo since she was getting her own show. I walked away from Hawkeye not caring much about Echo and wondering why out of all the characters in the MCU they decided she was the one that needed her own show. I loved Moon Knight and would love a second season of it, and it wouldn't even bother me if he never appears in a movie. But I did skip Werewolf by Night because it seemed to be a stand-alone with no connection to the MCU that required my attention.
  10. After that trailer I've gone from 'I have no interest in seeing this ever' to 'I'll check it out I guess...eventually'. Do I think we need a prequel? Not at all. As others have said, I too would prefer an adaptation of Glass Elevator. But this looks kinda fun and looks like it has no interest in the Daddy Wonka was a dentist plot from the Burton version, which is another plus for me. I am looking forward to that small group of people who will complain they didn't know they were buying a ticket to a musical. Because even though there is no singing (apart from the Grant's Oompa Loompa), it is very obvious there are big song and dance numbers - which I admit is why I am now more interested in the movie.
  11. Honestly, I feel like the writers are gonna pull a Lost and we learn that the comet hit Riverdale and Season 7 has been them living in the afterlife. And therefore, they can claim all the characters who didn't return this season survived the impact. It would also explain why all the characters who died previously are present in Season 7. And it turns out that the reason why Tabitha appears and disappears is because she is slipping in and out of a coma. Of course, it's more likely the writers will never address the comet or the time travel.
  12. I've just got around to watching this season - after the death of The Queen and all the Sussex drama I needed a break from The Royals. But I have to say even though I enjoyed the season, this would be by number complaint. It's no surprise that Imelda didn't get a nom for lead actress in a Drama at the Emmys as she was far from the lead. I enjoyed the earlier seasons where the event of the year was framed in a way that showed how it impacted Elizabeth or how she responded to the event. As the series has progressed, they've leaned more into the drama of Charles/Diana. But I guess the 90s was the time when The Royal Family were the story and not reactants to a story. The episodes where The Queen was involved in the story were my highlights. I was really disappointed we got nothing of the Andrew/Fergie show but I guess if they included Fergie they couldn't push the narrative that Diana was alone in the family. I would probably watch a spinoff of The Crown that focused on Charles' siblings to be honest, especially if it was just them bagging out their brother. My favourite moment of his episode was Andrew and Edward telling Charles no one wants him as King and laughing. It was a great little follow up moment from Season 3 (?) when Charles told his siblings no one cares about them (the day of Andrew's wedding) Fingers crossed the final season focuses more on The Queen and less on Charles being jealous of anyone who takes his limelight, Phillip being all woe is me and Margaret telling her sister that her life was ruined because she wasn't allowed to marry her true love. And I will never ever buy the story that Charles and Camilla is some great love story.
  13. I feel this show is just one big set up for a movie. Sure, technically WandaVision was setting up the plot for Doctor Strange but it at least told its own story with a resolution. With only 2 episodes left, I don't think we will get a resolution. This show suffers from the same problem Falcon & Winter Soldier had. I just cannot sympathise with the cause of the bad guys. It both shows, the antagonist comes off as a spoilt entitled brat. Usually, I can understand the motivation behind a bad guy's quest, but when it involves whiny entitlement, I just don't care. And now that anyone could be a Skrull and combine that with the multiverse, deaths in the MCU are pretty meaningless. At this stage, the only way this show will be worth sitting through 6 episodes is if they drop a hint about the existence of Hulkling.
  14. I'll admit I have the book (and its sequel) sitting in my every growing TBR list. I feel like I'm going to be experiencing the story first with the movie, which looks good.
  15. I enjoyed the book despite its lack of knowledge of how the British Royal family operates which stops me from recommending the book over another gay romcom that is very similar, Boyfriend Material (which I would love to see turned into a British romcom movie), that I read staight after RW&RB The book reads like a cheesy romcom and that's what the trailer delivered, and the the rating indicates they also have no intention of toning down the steamy scenes that appeared in the book. Hopefully the movie delivers what the trailer promises, just a pile of fun wrapped up in the romcom genre.
  16. I had this exact thought. Ever since I learnt that iPhones aren't approved for bad guys, I always look at what type of phone a character uses to determine how good they actually are. For a split second, when we were first shown Zachary in his room, I thought we were going to get our first introduction to Teddy Altman and then I remembered whose house we were in, and I laughed at my stupidity and desperation.
  17. I'm gonna preface this by saying I am a sucker for musicals. And a sucker for when a TV show decides to have musical episode. At one stage, I would only tune into the musical episode of a Riverdale season. As at least the songs woke me up, even if the link between the song and the current plot was nonexistent. And I have to say, this was probably my favourite Musical Episode of a TV Show since Buffy's Once More With Feeling. Using the framing device of Kevin & Clay writing a school musical made the singing make sense, allowed for cheesy choreography, using original songs helped support the narrative better, and having Kevin & Clay be the authors allowed the some of the more clunky, on the nose lyrics be acceptable since 16-year-olds wrote them. What I wasn't expecting was to get caught up emotionally with that final song, I don't know why but it got a tad misty in my loungeroom as everyone came in to support Kevin. Speaking of Kevin, did I forget that the Kellers were having troubles in their marriage? Or was this the first time learning about it. And in the original timeline is Mrs Keller dead? I can't rememnber. Anyways, it was really nice for Kevin to get a meaningful plot for a change, can't remember the last time he got one to be honest. I found it funny the amount of kisses that occurred this episode between Kevin and Clay as it was only today that I described to a friend that Kevin this season is the straightest gay on TV since Will Truman. This may just be the most ridiculous decision ever made by the writers.
  18. For me, the first season will never be topped. But I am enjoying this season. The fact that I am still watching (and paying attention to) every episode this late into the season, proves that. Usually, I've quit after about 4 episodes into the season, and speed watch or read the plot outlines on Wikipedia to stay up to date. There is a stron chance, that if i ever decide to rewatch this series it will just be S1 and S7 and the musical episodes (cause I'm a sucker for musicals - even if they make no sense in a show's context). Or and the farewell to Fred episode.
  19. I confess that I am a sucker when a show goes meta and does it well. From the ending of the Lodge's TV show at the conclusion of Season 7 to the line of the night of Cheryl telling Hiram that they enjoyed the first season, but it's been downhill ever since was brilliant. For some reason this episode really highlighted how disjointed Jughead's plot is from everything else. It really is getting noticeable how little he interacts with the main cast this season. Except for a number of very small references, you would almost think everybody else has no idea about The Milkman or the issue with the comic books. With the return of Mrs Grundy (which explains why the 'communist' teacher wasn't given the name in this timeline), I have developed a crazy idea how this show may end. It makes no sense at all, but I feel like they are setting things up that the show is going to end in a way that feeds into the very first episode so that the story is in a constant loop. As I said makes no sense, cause it requires Jason Blossom to exist and for Moose to exist (any info on if he appears this season?) and Clay not to, but when has that every stopped the writers? Anyway, bring on the annual musical episode. Are they using original songs or going the jukebox musical option? Or is there an Archie Musical I am not aware of?
  20. Considering they are determined to get every possible combination locking lips this season, I keep expecting these two to connect lips before the season ends. Ever since the jealousy over the car reared it's head the HoYay has been off the chart for Reggie and Archie.
  21. Did JJ Abrams direct the first episode? So many lens flares. I hope they dial that aesthetic down in future episodes, because it began to get annoying throughout the first episode. By the end of the episode, I was getting Emily In Paris vibes with Marco falling into luck everywhere and everything falling into place for him. The first episode didn't exactly win me over (a lot of the humour fell flat for me, trying too hard to be hip with the pop culture smackdown) but I'll give it a few more episodes before deciding if it's worth concluding. At this stage, I'd describe it as a mix of Emily In Paris meets Ugly Betty with a side of The Devil Wears Prada.

    Barbie (2023)

I just had the misfortune of listening to Barbie World. For a song that lasts for less than 2 minutes, it felt like it was never going to end. Maybe I've officially outgrown modern popular music, but Barbie World should never have seen the light of day. It's basically Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj rapping over the chorus of Aqua's Barbie Girl. There is no effort made whatsoever to fuse the two pieces together. The best thing about it, is that Aqua gets money from the song. Honestly, feels like it was recorded and included to shut people up. The studio can now say 'We included the song like you wanted, now shut up!'
  23. Wikipedia says Season 7 will have 20 episodes.
  24. I'm hoping that Season 7 is the last season for this show. S1-3 told a complete story - even with a weaker S2. S4 was a disappointment, mainly because they thrust the newbies to the front with a lacklustre mystery. S5 was a bit of a course correction (mainly thanks to Patrick's Short Story making me care more about that character). While S6 was a disappointing struggle to get through. While I understand logistics of getting everyone back may have been difficult, but to not start with the funeral for Samuel and give the audience a proper closure for the character that was our way into this world in the very first episode was a wrong move. It was also wrong writing out the other characters without a mention. A funeral would have been the perfect way to explain why Omar, Rebekah and Cayetana weren't hanging out and allow the audience to say goodbye. And Phillipe (while basically a non-entity) just disappeared without a trace - even though technically he was heavily involved in Isadora's storyline that played out on S6/ Instead, we were left with the Siblings being the main characters holding the fort, and they dismantled that with the breakup of Patrick and Ivan. Isadora who I still have no idea why I should care about her as a character and a whole number of new characters that I struggled to connect with. The best thing about S6 was they got rid of Ari for the next season. And even though a lot of people complained about the increase in sex scenes, my main issue is that the show has moved so far from the structure of the first three seasons. A mystery occurs, the police interview the gang, and we get slowly drip-fed information through the interrogation of unreliable narrators. In hindsight the show should have ended with S3 even if it means we never got Patrick and Ivan.
  25. When I saw there was going to be an Indian production of the Archie program, I instantly pressed the Remind Me button. I thought it was going to be a series, but a movie is also fine. Especially since it looks like it's a Bollywood Musical. Looks like a lot of fun.
