You’d have to be living under a rock to not know Wicked is a musical. And DG is in the rrailer.

While all of this is true, it is edited in a way that gives the impression they've decided to film a non-musical version of it. Especially with the version of DG used, which is reminiscent of all those slowed down 'creepy' covers that Disney use to use for their early days remakes. The version of DG used in that trialer sounds more end credits than what you would expect from a movie adaptation of the musical.

You can definitely see the shots that are from musical numbers but, similar to Wonka's trailers where similar shots occurred, they seem scared to reveal it is actually a musical.

Remember there were people upset that the Sweeney Todd movie was a musical and felt duped by the trailer.

  2. That trailer is everything and more. It's giving major vibes of being over the top and I am here for it. It looks like so much fun I may not care if it plays fast and loose with history.

Now all I need to do is find confirmation its coming to an Australian service, hopefully at the same time as the Starz release.

I don't know the answer they have adjusted in the past. They change categories and rules all the time. Something needs to change.

I think one of the criteria for if a show should be placed into the comedy category is by asking the simple question: Am I tuning in to laugh? Not does it make me laugh, but the reason I'm watching is because I need a good laugh.

Shows like Friends, Abbot Elementary and M*A*S*H while viewers may grow to care about characters tuned in each week to the shows expecting to laugh. And I imagine 99% of people when recommending the show to others would lead with 'Cause it's so funny' as their main reasoning. And using this assumption I would place shows like Ally McBeal and Desperate Housewives into the comedy category because I was tuning in each week expecting the show to make me laugh - while have some dramatic storylines. I actually think Desperate Housewives is the reason the 30 minute rule was bought in. While a show like Brothers & Sisters made me laugh at times, I was tuning in for the drama knowing that every now and then a side plot would provide some occasional laughs, so it belonged in Drama.

Are people tuning in to watch The Bear each week for the laughs or the drama? And since people constantly ask people involved with The Bear if its a comedy shows that perhaps it isn't a comedy. Because no one was asking the cast of Friends if their show was a comedy.

The idea that 30 minutes isn't long enough for a drama is ludicrous or that a comedy cannot be longer than 30 minutes. Because I can guarantee you no one thought Glee was a drama

this is what a well done in memoriam looks like: a beautiful musical that didn’t detract from celebrating those who have passed, whose faces and names we could see and read.

ITA, I hate when the choice is made to show the performer of the song over the images of the people we are remembering.

  5. Normally I have a heart of stone during award ceremony's In Memoriams but damn this year's Emmy really got to me.  I'm blaming the song choices and the arrangement of those songs. I didn't even notice the shift to the Friends theme until the lyrics started.

Heh, did Calista tell Harrison, we’re out of here?!

I thought that, but then they mentioned there is an Ally McBeal reunion happening so maybe Harrison doesn't like sitting next to strangers while his wife is hanging backstage?

Why were they playing The X-Files theme coming back from break?  That was random.

When we come back from an ad they are just playing random tv themes. I'm guessing the ones chosen are the shows with recognisable tunes that they couldn't organise a reunion for OR get someone to present an award.

I'm finding the awards themselves to be a complete snoozefest.  I don't think there's been one surprise yet.  Everyone that was largely predicted to win has won.

This is one of my issues with the Emmys once you get into the winner's circle you just keep winning.

This is my first time watching the Emmys live - thanks strikes and school holidays lining up perfectly - but I feel I could have just looked up the winners from 5 years ago to pick the winners and smashed them with the recent Golden Globes to pick these winners.

I would love to see a Seth Meyers win in that category. A Closer Look is comedy gold and Seth is great with his guests.

Every since I discovered A Closer Look during the 2020 US Elections I've been wanting Seth's show to win an Emmy.

    NORM! Love the Cheers reunion.

The reunion was great but it also reminded me that Kirstie Alley is no longer with us.

And it doesn't matter how many awards it wins, those awards are not going to make me check out The Bear.

  11. For some reason, it irritates me when the 'narrator guy' tells me the following information about the winner: 'This is their first nomination and first win' It sounds very redundant. Sure 'This is their 5th nomination and first win' makes sense but surely it would make more sense to say 'They win with their first ever nomination' or something.

So here's my thing on the new Box Office category. If you're going to award a movie simply because it made a ton of money there shouldn't even be nominations. It should automatically go to the one that made the most money. Which removes the whole point of it being a competitive category. If they want to start doing a special award to the biggest box office movie, then sure as that's got precedent, but don't treat it like you do Best Actor or Best Picture. Yes I love Barbie but this shouldn't be a thing.

This is why I was hoping Barbie wouldn't win, so at least it would look like the one who wins at the box office isn't the automatic winner. If they decide to keep the award I would drop the Box Office part of the name and jsut say Best Cinematic Experience.

I don't know what Cillian said that got him muted lol. Congrats to him so glad he won.

Was it thanking Christopher Nolan and finally after 6 feckin movies he has an award? I;m watching in Australia via our streaming service and didn't notice any muting, but this is the closest I can think of what would get muted.

Yeah, I know it's Miyazaki, but Spider-Man Across the Spider Verse was an astonishing accomplishment in animation.

I'm wondering if it's a combination of giving an award to the first movie and it's an unfinished story means perhaps people will hold off voting for it because they think, we will wait until the final part. Kinda like what the Academy did with The Lord of The Rings.

I still need to watch Across the Spider Verse though, so my opinion is likely null and void.

While these intros are mostly amusing, they're reeeeeally long.  Do they not have that many awards to give out tonight?

I assume since they aren't handing out the two lifetime acheivement awards this year, they have lots of time to pad.
