  1. According to the Game of Thrones Wiki (there's a separate one for the books called a wiki of ice and fire) Tommen is around 18 in season 5
  2. Any reason Finding Neverland didn't get much in terms of the Tonys? Has anyone seen it? Is it good?
  3. Bayern are my one team that I have absolute faith in (which is saying something considering I'm also an Arsenal fan...) but Robben, Ribery and possibly Lewa out? A broken nose is manageable, but broken upper jaw plus concussion is doubtful. My faith is starting to waver...but either way I do like Barca. I just like Bayern more
  4. I've really been posting on this thread too often lol But yea that line really confused me too. It took me a second to realize that was canto because there is a slightly similar phrase in mandarin "那麼搞錯 na me gao cuo" that it sounded a lot like which means "[that's] so wrong!" a phrase that my parents have used often in frustration, which kind of fits (sounds very odd in english but I've heard it used in that context a lot.) I thought maybe the boys were just mispronouncing it at first (or it was mistranslated, I mean the "bull fart" translation was a bit off so I figured maybe) before I realized it was probably canto. Since Eddie's parents are from Taiwan, shouldn't they also know Taiwanese? ETA: "you've gotta be kidding me" epitomizes that phrase a lot better
  5. A silent I always go back to is Sunset: A Song of Two Humans. The whole movie is on youtube (for free). The plot is a bit problematic on paper but it actually really works when it's on screen. A man is convinced by his mistress to murder his wife and make it seem like an innocent boat accident. He can't go through with it and she runs away into the city with him following (not to kill her.) If you want to watch it: ETA: It's Sunrise! Somehow I remembered it correctly when I googled it, but not when I wrote it down.
  6. Not sure how to feel about a Amélie musical. It's one my all time favorite movies and I would be heartbroken if they screwed it up.
  7. I kind of feel the same. When I ask, my parents laugh and say that of course English is my native language but it feels wrong to call Mandarin my "second language" when really it's somewhere in between. I also remember when i was first starting school, speaking more chinese than english at home and then having english take over. But I've known Chinese just as long, if not a bit longer than I have English. I didn't just up and decide to learn Chinese one day. And there are still some terms in English I have trouble with because I parents only ever referred to them in Chinese (example: Sheets -- I had no idea which exactly is the duvet, comforter, and sheets my parents always referred to them in the general term of 床單 chuang dan)
  8. That's pretty true I think. Like Eddie, my parents are also immigrants from Taiwan. They insisted my brother and I speak chinese with them at home, but we both refused and it ended up being chinese on one side and english on the other. Nowadays it's more like a half english half chinese mix (chinglish, if you will.) Thankfully, my brother and I can both speak chinese well (he's probably forgotten how to read and write by now, though I took classes in college and made more of an effort to remember) But he had (chinese/taiwanese) friends who were like the boys. "Painful" is the word he would use to describe listening to them try to speak mandarin. ETA: English really became my reflexive language, though (well, as long as I'm in the US anyway. I usually adjust when I go to Taiwan or something like that.) Growing up tough, my friends' parents would sometimes falsely believe I didn't know any chinese because I (kinda rudely) would answer only in English reflexively.
  9. UUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH. That is all.
  10. Speaking of the names, I'm a little confused about the FC part of the team names in MLS. I don't follow MLS, but I do follow the EPL, Bundesliga, and La Liga. I mean FC usually stands for "Football Club" but in the US, people call it soccer, not football so calling something "____FC" is a bit odd to me. Is that just them just trying to be more like the clubs around the world?
  11. Maybe they can retcon the timeline and have the events of Wonderland happen AFTER what's happening right now in OUAT so the Will we saw with Belle was the detached, heartless one who wanted nothing to do with RedQueen!Ana
  12. Did anyone notice that one of the directions on the packet the chinese teacher put in front of the boys said "寫在西班牙語" (I write in traditional chinese sorry it was in simplified as 写在西班牙语) which is "write [these phrases] in spanish"? That was perplexing and hilarious!
  13. The semifinals are set! Barca vs Bayern (First leg at the Camp Nou) Real vs Juve (First Leg in Turin)
  14. Well....a thrashing I asked for, a thrashing I got. 6-1? What a one-sided game this turned out to be. I knew they would get through but I didn't think it would be like this.
  15. Not sure if this is the place for it and it's probably already been talked about, but what are your guys' thoughts on Arrow!Oliver against Smaillville!Oliver? And for that matter Oliver/Felicity and Oliver/Chloe? Neither of those shows stayed with canon on the whole Black Canary/Green Arrow romance.

  17. It looks like the pile of injuries have finally caught up to Bayern...there'd better be a thrashing at the Allianz next week (please PLEASE let Schweinsteiger be fine to play by then because Xabi needs a rest stat)
  18. https://youtu.be/daK2_m8BfTM?t=486 Every person who ever watched Atonement re: Briony
  19. And can I say, Fisk's mandarin is terrible lol? In their scenes together I didn't need subtitles for Gao, but I had to read them when Fisk spoke just to make sure he said what I thought he was saying. He tries, though. His accent I think is the problem. It's very very thick.
  20. Amell, I think. Another fellow Arrow-reject here. I thought I could get into it too, but Arrow could never hold me for more than a couple episodes. And even then, I skipped over those island flashbacks every single time.
  21. *raises hand* Like Foggy said, he has the handsome and vulnerable thing down and he knows it. But it's logical that he was too preoccupied with Fisk and all that to really be turning on the natural charm he would have if he weren't so tense. The thing with Karen and the spanish was an example of that, and with the real estate agent in the pilot
  22. Well silver lining for them...Sergio Aguero is back! And once he starts a streak, he really starts. He'll probably be banging in goals from now until the end of the season
  23. I believe he is blind by the usual definition, but his other senses are heightened to the point that he uses them to "see" and can still move around (probably better than) the average person with sight. The glasses are just regular ones I think.
  24. Amidst all the tribalism that goes along with the EPL, it's nice to know we are all united in hating Chelsea.
