  1. I watched this a few weeks ago and decided that I really wanted to wait and see what people thought when it aired. I feel validated. 😀 I barely recognized any of these characters. Everything about the Turners felt like a different show. Everything about them was melodramatic to the extreme. I felt like I was watching a telenovela. (In fact, I really wish I could choose Spanish audio for those scenes.) So much about the May adoption story makes me uncomfortable in ways I can't put into words. The parents of the children with cancer reminded me of how much I love the stories where the parents are in love and committed. It's just nice to see. Was the show floating something between Cyril and Rosalind on the bus? No opinion but just wondering. I still haven't forgotten that Sr. Veronica came on as a pathological liar.
  2. This episode felt good. You could feel a little tension from recent events but there's a lot of love among this group and it shows. I like seeing Nico. They bring a really sweet energy to scenes. I know a lot of folks aren't here for Ormewood's family situation but I like how he's really trying to do right by his kids. I laughed at the french braid drama because I remember when my dad had to do my hair when my went out of town for a funeral. I was 8 or 9 years old and he was flummoxed. He ended up recruiting our next door neighbor so I applauded Ormewood's asking for help. That said, walking his daughter into the middle of a confession and having her say "He doesn't look like a murderer" really creeped me out. I know this show exists in a slightly heightened universe but that felt off to me. I know Will is happy to have his uncle but eventually Antonio needs to explain how he and Lucy got so estranged that she ended up walking the streets and turning tricks even into her late pregnancy. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Amanda's the one to finally ask that question. I see people worried that Antonio will turn bad. I look at it this way, we've been introduced to three newish characters: Luke, the daughter from last season whose name I can't remember, and Uncle Antonio. At least one of those characters will either turn bad or die.
  3. I'd start with The Real Real. Faith specifically mentioned them in the previous episode when Will complimented her sweater. https://www.therealreal.com/ Yes. He swatted her so she would experience what he did during his drug bust.
  4. This one's going into my 5 least liked episodes. I have absolutely no interest in Buck's journey of discovery. None. I haven't cared about Buck's love life since he waited until Taylor moved in with him and gave up her apartment to tell her that he kissed Lucy and even then he didn't come clean. Honestly I only like Buck about 50 percent of the time. Harry showing up and making waffles was good. They deserve that after the cruise. I hope that his community service finds a way to include May. The case of the woman who shot her son was so heartbreaking. I think it was also, a missed opportunity to talk about responsible gun ownership.
  5. I've been saying this since the first episode. Why doesn't Robyn have an airtight cover story? Harry could easily create a fake charity complete with website. Even when she was keeping secrets from Vi and Dee she still referred to the charity she worked for but never by name. It's ridiculous.
  6. It looks like this will ripple through this show's relationships for a while. It's hard for me to have sympathy for Gina when she just disappears and tells her sister to lie about it. Seeing Amanda get swatted was scary. The cops claimed someone called in that a woman was pointing a semi-automatic at kids in the park so they target a woman running with her friend and a chihuahua? Seriously where is Will getting these sweaters for Betty? They're adorable.
  7. I don't keep track of the behind the scenes stuff but I feel like this show is being written by a whole new team. I feel like there's been a lot of false starts and dropped threads. Some were necessary like losing Bishop after Chris Noth was fired. (Remember when Delilah was supposed to be getting therapy from him?) Although to be honest I really miss the chemistry between Latifah and Noth. Fisk works my nerves. I actually tuned out of the show during episode because I'm tired of CIA/Black ops nonsense. I don't give a damn where Michelle went. I don't ever want to see Michelle again. The conflict between Vi and Trish felt right. Lorraine Toussaint and Gloria Reuben? Yes, please! Confession I have no interest in Mel's family. I didn't need another sibling jumping out of the woodwork. While Dante goes to a baseball game with his kids in the middle of the day.
  8. This was a good entry into the pantheon of 9-1-1 three-parters. My thoughts: As I said last episode, kudos to the stunt actors. They did some great work. Bobby and Athena getting frisky after they got home reminded me of a comment I saw on another site "Bobby and Athena. Danger is their kink." I love how the the episode started with a Cat 5 hurricane and by the end everyone was reunited on a ship under partly cloudy skies. Notice when Maddie is watching the newscast about the rescue and the reporter asks "Was anyone on the ship when it sank?" the audio fades out. So we're never going to know what happened to those people in the lifeboats. Wes's death broke my heart. Not his death so much but seeing how they had to leave his body behind. I feel like the show did a good job of showing how everyone felt about having to do that then watch the body sink in the water I get what you're saying but I'm of the mindset that more Black characters mean more Black characters die. These Black actors served up excellent performances. How? Honest question: what were the signs?
  9. I've done a rewatch and I have additional thoughts: To the person upthread who mentioned he grunting and groaning, thanks for that. I started cracking up. Angela Basset can deliver the most ridiculous dialogue in the most dramatic way. "HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY DAMN DONGLE!!" was a line reading for the ages. Kudos to the stunt actors. There was a lot of really good stunt work in this episode especially after the explosion and the tidal wave. I wonder how much of the season's budget got spent on these three episodes. I hope there's still enough for the rest of the season. Otherwise the 118 will spend the rest of the season getting cats out of trees.
  10. They'll retcon all of that by the end of the next episode. There was a time I would've agreed with you but given some of the insane behavior I've seen on Tik Tok, he felt completely believable to me.
  11. This was classic 9-1-1 and I loved it. I love Bobby and Athena so much. This is a case where I reallyreallyreally hope the actors like each other because they are so wonderful on screen together. I love the fact that they are grown ass adult who love each other completely. I was reminded of the episode in S4 where Athena walked into a burning building to save Bobby. I really like how they brought us back to Bobby's regret about what happened to his family. That's part of the character's DNA and it makes perfect sense that he would make that kind of confession It's not 9-1-1 without random assholes. The drunk dude at the traffic stop. The "cash me out" guy on the ship. One of the things I love about this show is how they give us obvious villains to hate and we get to see them pay. I feel like the show doesn't know what to do with Hen and honestly, neither do I. I want Lady Captain to live because I want her to become a recurring character. I remember watching The Poseidon Adventure with my parents just like Athena did and I have the same feeling about cruise ships. 😃
  12. That cold open was hilarious. That saidI found Gregory off-putting during the game. He's always been competitive but I hated how he flipped the table at the end. It just felt wrong to me that he would do that in front of the kids. I like the evolution we're seeing in Janine. I like her We're slowly watching her become the next Barbara or Melissa. Love Keegan Michael Key and hope he recurs.
  13. Not just you. I haven't seen people look this crappy since the season of COVID.
  14. Excellent point. Both couples are doing quite well and we just saw how amazing Violet and Fred are.
  15. I don't even recognize this version of Matthew. He's never been this tone-deaf about Trixie's work. He was Nonnatus House's benefactor. Plus the way he was holding Jonty like he'd never touched the kid before. It was so weird. I'm thinking about the track record for marriages on this show. Barbara died, Lucille left Cyril, I hope Chummy and Peter are still together.
  16. What a hideous person Capote was. That's my takeaway from this series. I admit that I always chafe against the stories where a tortured artist gets to treat the people in their life like shit until someone fights back. From What's Love Got to Do With It? to Priscilla (which I watched last week.) Both Babe and Truman got beautiful dream scenes in death. Babe got to wear that gorgeous pink gown, Truman got to walk the beach, and they each got to be their best selves forever. Babe dropping her funeral plans on the Swans during lunch was a kind of gut punch but I respected it. I have friends of a similar age and I think that's something friends should discuss.
  17. I liked this episode more than the previous ones. I like the stories better when they're about Robyn saving random people who need help instead of intrigue about the CIA and foreign ops about extractions of spies and terror cells and operatives back from the dead. I like stories more when Robyn is the Friendly Neighborhood Equalizer with Mel, Harry, and Dante having her back. Robyn's stunt with the grenade is the reason I keep coming back to this show. That was amazing.🤩
  18. FYI, episode 2 is up on PBS Passport now.
  19. Where are they getting the fashions they're putting on Betty? Because that sweater is adorable.
  20. I was thinking about starting a couple of threads. Maybe one about our favorite [something] like "our favorite birth scenes" and maybe an "unpopular opinions" thread. The show returns to PBS on March 17 and I thought this could be a good way to get ready for that.
  21. Not just you. Will knows that Betty is magic. Plus I like how he said she was his family. I'm so happy this show is back.
  22. Could someone explain to me the whole drama around Da'Von buying a chain? So many of the pop culture references go over my head and I don't have kids so I also miss the parenting stuff. What's the big deal about a boy buying a chain?
  23. Same. Tariq is probably my least favorite character next to Ashley (the aide).
  24. The moment sports betting became legal in this state we were inundated by those loud, tacky ads. It's just another thing I'm angry at my state legislature for.
  25. I decided a long time ago that the writers of those commercials are working out their issues with their own parents and upbringing. Somebody probably had to do therapy because their mom used butter containers or their dad spent too much time in his woodshop. The money they make from producing these ads should be spent on therapy.
