  1. It's been a good break. I really enjoyed Jerika this morning with Anthony and Tony. (But then again Jerika is one of my favorites on the crew)

By Monday we'll be back to Gayle's over-explaining and awkward questions. And the moment on the show I dread most when she's there....everyone else can quickly intro the Talk of the Table segment by saying they pick a story to share with each other and the audience. Gayle says all that and then has to add that the reason it is called that is that they are at a table and they are talkin'....every time. Sigh

I don't really dislike Gayle but she has some unprofessional habits and no one seems to call her on them. Norah used to nip some of it in the bud but now she just goes off on her tangents.

  2. The crawling through the sand tied like that was a cruel challenge and not fun to watch.

I can't imagine that a gummy shark floating in an icy drink is anything but hard yet slimy. They had to be feeling sick after that amount of greasy food.

I knew Inspector Dean's case was going nowhere when the first two suspects he had to mark off the list were himself and Chelsea. He's just not as bright as he thinks he is. I'm glad to hear Kellee is at least aware that his flirty friendship could spell trouble. Hope she keeps her distance.

Loved when the editors chose to show a flock of birds taking off when Noura squealed with excitement on IOI.

That moment was perfect and almost lets me forgive the editors for failing again to show any interaction between the two people on a tribe that have gone to IOI. Seriously- you show Kellee talking about wanting to build a bond with whoever it is and Noura goes, and we know this woman's filter is faulty at best.... and they show us nothing!?

Wow, that turn around at the immunity challenge when the tribe all agreed that they wanted to sit out Noura was hilarious. Poor Noura was sure her amazing persuasion skills had them fooled.

I rolled my eyes hard when I first heard the IOI concept and while this season isn't showing superior game play thus far but it's a likeable group and has already provided some laughs and good blindsides so I'm looking forward to watching how this all plays out. And I get Sandra's droll commentary so that's a plus. You got your blindside, indeed!

  4. This show finally limped through its finale with a double episode. I couldn't watch them both back-to-back as the ridiculousness of this game annoys me too much for that.

The nurse who played in part one of the finale had to be the worst player of the season. She knew next to nothing. But of course that doesn't really matter because it's a complete game of chance. Not that that worked out for her either. Listening to her sister tell how she had played an amazing game in the overly sincere wrap up speech was too funny.

If this manages to come back next summer I'm going to pass- it's not much fun to watch a game so heavily weighted against the player's success. Justin Timberlake and his fake trucker's coat need to go back to the drawing board.

True Crime Garage is another good one although it's based off of publicly available information so it's more of a background noise podcast for me. I also liked The Dream (podcast about MLMs)

Just finished listening to The Dream on your recommendation. Thanks for that.

And now that The Clearing is wrapping up next week might give True Crime Garage or The Vanished a shot. I can only do one true crime at a time - I start getting the facts mixed or the sadness of it all starts weighing on me.

  6. I watched this in the theater when it was first released and was so affected by it. The way these people were 'handled' as it their lives were given over to the researchers was stunning.

I was so intrigued I got the book written by the twin sisters that appeared in the doc that were part of the experiment, too. It is "Identical Strangers" by  Elyse Schein and Paula Bernstein. It adds more info and they even talked to the doctor and some others involved. If you want to know more I would highly recommend it.

  7. Never read the book, but I enjoyed this. I do tend to be a fan of a quirky movie and this fit that description. Cate Blanchette plays a very good antisocial person and the actress who played the daughter was good. I'm normally not a Kristen Wiig fan but I liked her here.

The story was far fetched but enjoyable. And the scenery was gorgeous. (Once they got out of that ramshackle house- particularly jarring right after the Addams Family trailer!)

Is it just me, or has Gayle King gotten more and more unpleasant to her co-hosts? She took Anthony Mason to task on air yesterday for briefly stumbling over her name.

Yeah, that was rude and made for a very awkward moment. Gayle does bring in the awkwardness with some regularity with the other hosts and guests.

That said I do like most of the changes- talk of the table and before we go segments in particular. I could do without the overly repetitive teasers and the recap at 7:30 and 8:30. People who tune in late can get it when they repeat the leads at 8.

Still the best, most news oriented morning show, which is the reason I watch.

  9. Two that I would recommend:

The Shrink Next Door- about a patient and his psychiatrist and how things went down a bizarre path. A real lesson in trust and how things aren't always as they seem.

The Clearing- A daughter suspects her father of more than one murder. She remembers things from her childhood and goes digging on the internet to find unsolved cases near places they lived.

  10. Really liked this. Jack's struggle to balance the excitement of his music career taking off and then the mixed emotions of guilt and being overwhelmed were well done.

The two other people who knew the truth were great. Loved their reaction.

I was distracted throughout the movie by how much Lily James resembled Kiera Knightly. They could be sisters!

As a presumed journalism major, Rick saying “good” in that instance hurt my soul.

I think Eric was too, and it was kind of a fail on the editors part to not swing over to Eric’s reaction in the jury when Jeff mentioned it was Loved Ones

Loved the correction, too. Grammar matters, people.

And the Eric reaction would have been awesome but the cameramen probably have the same problem I have- which one is Eric and which is Chris?

And can they please give these people swimsuits?!? It is way past time.

I do wonder how Aurora is going to feel about Gavin using the extra vote to vote for Ron.

She was in on the plan with Lauren and Victoria to vote out Ron and that's when she offered it up since this was the last tribal it could be used. So he used it as she intended.

  13. Can't believe.Rick was able  to climb that tree with everyone sleeping. I was sure either he or the idol would fall right into the shelter.

Glad Gavin was able to see past the manipulation of Ron and use Aurora's extra vote. Was concerned that it could end up being used against her and would be the reason she was voted out herself.

But "mastermind" Ron is finally out- well, at least banished the Eternal Edge of Extinction.

Forgot to mention that I'm surprised that David fell to the same blunder on the 'give an advantage' discovery. Devins gave his only ally in the game the half-idol. Now David gives Devins the IC advantage. They both ended up basically burning an olive branch/chance to reach out. Why not use it to try and garner some favor/sway with a person should you come back? It seems like not seeing the full power of such an advantage.

It may have saved Devins since he was able to win the shortened challenge since Probst took one of his balls (sorry heh) but I still say it's a shortsided way of using that advantage.

I thought the same thing. It would have benefited both he and Rick as they are already allies to bring someone to their side.

I think the last thing Survivor needs is more rules. Rules requirement punishment and the only punishment on Survivor has been to get kicked off the show. Do you want to see someone get kicked off because they lifted their ass two inches above their seat?

I was smiling all through the chaotic tribal and I'm usually tempted to skip over them and get to the vote.

Just wishing for a bit of restraint. Just like the jury "isn't allowed to speak" keeps them from shouting over to the current players but certainly doesn't preclude some amount of muttering, asides to one another and dramatic facial reactions without anyone getting kicked out.

But no worries..... the producers seem to like the new, chaotic style so we'll get to see plenty more.

  17. I'm not wild about the get up and whisper tribals. Maybe the rule should be you have to stay in your seat. Then if you want to communicate with those at the other end you have to say it out loud or resort to hand gestures.

The jury was enjoying it though. Finally getting something besides deep brooding, faraway looks from Joe and Aubrey was bringing the Eliza-level reactions. (Though Eliza remains Queen of Tribal Reactions)

I was having a hard time telling Chris and Eric apart when they were on separate tribes, now that they are both on Edge of Eternal Extinction it's much harder.

I'm gonna have to play back that tribal a few hundred times for the facial expressions alone. Now that's a blindside. See those jaws dropping to the floor like a Tex Avery cartoon? See the quietly smug smiles on the overlooked players who feel taken for granted? Yeah, it's all right there in the medical dictionary, classic symptoms, really, it's the (now-not-quite) fatal malady common known as "blindside."

It was a good one. Eric trying to start counting once the third vote was read, Rick's jaw literally dropping and Ron trying to hold his face completely still as it  dropped against his will. The puppets have broken free and are running amok!

  19. While I understand Rick's emotions after getting voted out, he has lost perspective on where he stands with Kama alliance. And even though "Wardog" was right he is an overbearing loudmouth so no way was he going to convince Rick to trust him. Liked Rick saying "Don't bark at me." Apt description of "Wardog's" style.

During the IC Lauren repeatedly states how dizzy she is, the camera is doing close ups of her eyes crossing and no producer  notices? Glad she was able to get back up. The funny thing that happened right before that was Jeff announcing the three remaining players in the challenge- Victoria, Aurora and Lauren. Then Aurora mumbles something like "Dang skinny girls." Ummm, Aurora you are a dang skinny girl.

  20. Should rename this season The Edge of Eternity because no one ever leaves!  The only way out is to remove yourself from the game. Thankfully Keith and Wendy opted out.

I want Ron's elevated eyebrow (and attitude!) voted out.

And she totally gave away that advantage.

Better hope Reem isn't reading this. She'll come at you like a wolverine.

I was also in the dark about Aurora. I thought Jeff was calling someone O'Rourke during the challenge at first.

And there is a Julie and a Julia. Next week maybe they'll add a Juliet!

  22. I was stunned at how easily Aubrey was reeled in. I know that she was feeling desperate for an alliance but that was too easy. And the outpouring of affection at tribal...every player was saying nice things and I was sure that would make her aware enough to pull out the idol. JT level, indeed. Hope she gets back in and redeems herself.

Wendy's glee at getting voted out was amusing as was her "I'm lost" wanderings away tribal. How does that happen? Now we just have to watch Reem's head literally explode as she deals with her. Reem is so bitter and hostile. Her reaction to Chris stating the obvious was outrageous. I hope Chris is a light sleeper- I'd be nervous if I was him.
