I really wish they'd killed off Angela and left us Shayla. She was much better acted and more interesting to me.

That line was so atypically topical, relevant, and concise that I can only conclude VV ad-libbed it. The Pizzolouge version was probably a rambling speech about night falling upon the memories of impotent regret and btw have I mentioned that STAN WAS MY FRIEND?!

That was the conversation in my household, too. Give me a break. Ray is no longer a young person. That should have been the END of him or at least made him wish it was the end when he sobered up... but nope, next scene he's perfectly fine, lah-dee-dah. I see him as a microcosm for this season.

Perfect. :) Also, there's no way I would be giving a billionaire a private tour of my workplace. Nuh-uh, no way, that's a situation with limitless potential for disaster. That whole mess would have been turned over to my manager in a heartbeat; he's the one making the big bucks, so he can deal with Mr. Grey. Anyhow, unlike most here, I really liked this episode. I was biting my nails during the Steel Mountain infiltration, especially when Elliot was about to launch an attack on poor Bill. It's not often that a show can make me care so much about a character we met literally seconds ago. I also enjoyed the dinner party scene, especially the power dynamics between Tyrell and the "perfectly happy" wife. I wasn't bored at all, and I'm usually bored to tears during the shows that almost every loves like GoT, True Detective, etc. so maybe my OS is running some funky software. Where the slow loses me is Shayla and the temporarily-imprisoned drug dealer. With that plot, it feels like the writers are losing focus and throwing out as many story threads as they can in case they get bored with hacking/computers/etc. I have no interest in watching a show about bad things that drug dealers do, so.

He was the CEO of Evil Corp's secretary/assistant -- the guy who was at the front desk while Tyrell was waiting to give his pitch that never happened.

Darlene is the hacker girl, and Shayla is the neighbor who was his drug dealer. You're confused because the two look similar and are styled almost identically.

I like that Gideon is still investigating that server. I love Elliot, but the guy is sketchy as hell and Gideon would be an idiot to blindly trust him. Also, was that Randy Harrison playing Gideon's boyfriend?? I just about dropped my coffee when he appeared on screen. I never thought he'd have another TV role after publicly trashing QaF. I'm probably in the minority here but I'm glad that they aren't just dropping the drug use storyline. It adds another level of unreliability to Elliot, which (for me) makes things all the more interesting. After this episode, I'm convinced that only Christian Slater is imaginary. I guess all their conversations take place inside Elliot's mind... otherwise we'd have a lot more reaction shots from people like the receptionist, the bartender, etc.

Unlike most people here, I liked Piper during the first two seasons and felt she was integral to the show. I enjoyed her as the main character, even, but part of that is that I prefer shows that have a main character as opposed to ensembles, which tend to lead to scattered, mushy storytelling. Right now though? I have no idea what's going on with her. The writing is off, the acting is even more off, and she seems as out of character as prison-issue-Pornstache. She isn't poor, she isn't desperate, there's really no need for her to steal from her employer and start an illegal business. There's no way this is going to end well, and the woman from seasons one and two would have seen that. Worse, the transition from old Piper to this new person was sudden and jarring. I can't plot a character path from where she was in season two to where we are now. The best I can come up with is that the writers wanted to demonstrate how prison can turn someone incarcerated for minor offenses into a more sophisticated criminal. I think I'd enjoy that story, if well told, but this plot just isn't working for me. Piper might as well be a completely different character, and her showboating antics are seriously grating on my nerves. Firing Flaka was the last straw. She went from seeming like a real person to Master Criminal Barbie. Thank you. She should be grateful that Sophia had her son transported to the prison as many times as she did. It's called a favor, FFS. It seems like the show wants us to believe that they both have equally valid points, but I sure don't see it.

Is that how we wind up with teen girls sent to prison for selling sugared paper? While watching I was certain that no such thing could ever happen, but apparently it can and does. *sigh* I'm relieved that Red was apparently just stringing Healy along for favors. Hopefully they don't decide to make her have a sudden change of heart, because I find him utterly repugnant. Poor Soso. That's exactly how I feel when trying to make small talk with relative strangers.

Not that I have a huge problem with hatemongers being fleeced, but watching a character make a very predictable last-minute decision not to do something shady isn't really cheering material for me. More like yawning material, because is there a single person who didn't know Boo was going to change her mind? I'm still waiting for this season to find its stride. It seems like we're lacking any real tension or conflict and worse, the writers are repeating stories. I really like Soso and the actor who plays her, but I don't need to see Taylor's season one arc done again. OTOH I can't stand Healy and can't believe they're repeating the "prisoner/prison employee" story. Wasn't Daya/Bennett enough? It was way MORE than enough for me. Ugh, ugh, ugh. If they really go there I think I'm done.

I hope the Bennett/Daya baby drama gets wrapped up soon, because this episode exhausted my interest in the topic... and then some. I know it's early still, but so far this season feels scattered and unfocused. The only plot I'm really interested in is the heroin. I'm not enthused about the "oh no the prison might close!" plot because that's clearly not going to happen. Or if it does, all the characters will be transferred elsewhere together. Once again, "big" plots like that are boring because the stakes are actually lower than more personal plots like "Piper accidentally steals a screwdriver." Remember all the fun that resulted from a moment of distraction? Man, I'm really missing season one.

Of all the inhumane things our prison system does to people, separating mothers and babies has to rank in at least the top three horrors. That final scene just hurt to watch.

I'll be honest, I thought she was the weakest part of the show. I was really irritated when the awesome and very useful Claire was sidelined while Karen was given more and more screen-time. The fact that she manipulated Ben into taking a huge risk that ultimately cost him his life has been covered by others, so I'll address my other major issue with her character -- namely WHY was she hired by this neonate law firm with no money and no clients? It makes no sense to me. A firm with no clients has no need for a secretary, especially one who doesn't work. Seriously, what value does Karen add to their legal practice? From what I can see, she was getting paid to pursue her vendetta against Fisk, even after Matt explicitly told her not to do so. Are they even going to address the fact that she bought a bunch of junk at that auction and charged it to the firm's account? Will there be consequences, for her or the firm, or is it no biggie in comic book land when your non-working secretary blows thousands on unapproved, unnecessary purchases? I was also annoyed by the way the writers pretended she'd been in Foggy and Matt's lives forever rather than ... what, a few weeks? As the season wore on, it seemed like she was being magically elevated into a years-long important friendship rather than someone the just met literally a month ago. Someone who wormed her way into their firm by offering to work for free, and then informing Foggy the next day that actually, she absolutely intends to be paid, thank you very much.

I am way late to answer because holidays and company and all that stuff. Anyhow, I love to knit and I have two Shih Tzu dogs -- my original babies. Also it was my username on TWoP, which I still miss terribly. I was there back when it was Mighty Big TV and I didn't even own a TV, so... :(
