  1. Just to add to the Keith Gordon information. He also directed last week's episode "Yankee" as well as Season 1 Episode 9 from 2013 titled "The Beetle". Regarding the hormones of a teenage boy, to reference Buffy again, Xander at one point said "I'm 17. Thinking about linoleum makes me want to have sex".
  2. Hi stillshimpy: I understand that a tongue-in-cheek tone is difficult to transfer into text and, however unfortunate, that's more of what I was attempting to do. Simply making silly little remarks on the whole sci-fi genre by bringing in the "out of this world, one dimensional, mind-meld" terminology. Just me having a bit of sardonic fun with the whole "oooooh it's sci-fi" bullshit since it's been stated as being one of the main reasons Tatiana Maslany hasn't been able to get an Emmy nomination. Am I disappointed that Maslany wasn't nominated for an Emmy? Sure. But it's not going to make the world come to an end nor obviously have the slightest effect on my life. If truth be told the entire acting community gives far too many awards to themselves and many of them for the exact same thing. So, yay for them I guess. But in that vein, I'm disheartened by the fact that some genuinely excellent work wasn't recognized, since that's the purpose of these awards in the first place. Regarding acting opposite a tennis ball, that comes not from me but specifically Maslany herself, as she's discussed it in mulitple interviews for Orphan Black. She also discussed having to act opposite the standard X on the wall and/or just thin air when necessary. There are even some behind the scenes photos of her acting with said tennis ball on the BBC America website, so truly it was not an uninformed opinion I pulled out of my ass. "Frequency" is the operative word here and as to that she's never mentioned it in the various interviews I've read and seen. But Kathyrn Alexandre, her acting double, is well known to anyone who has watched or read some of Maslany's interviews. She makes a very deliberate point of discussing Alexandre and how invaluable she is to both Maslany and the show.
  3. Like so many others I felt disgusted that Tatiana Maslany was egregiously cheated (again) of an Emmy nomination. And I will say cheated because, in my opinion, that describes what happened exactly. There is more than one actress named on the nominee list that didn't earn the right to be there. And the fact remains that none of them, not one, has had to do the self-differentiating and disparate shades of character(s) Maslany is challeged to do. Additionally, because of the number of different people she plays Tatiana does, at minimum, three to five times as much work with far fewer or, sometimes any, people to act opposite. I'd love to see each of the current nominees try and act opposite a tennis ball and bring anything close to the refined performance she gives. Each character/clone she portrays, while facially identical, still has their own distinctive way of walking and talking with unique facial movements and hand mannerisms who can convey the same emotion in wildly differing ways. Which is mind blowing when you compare it with the acting choices of some of the nominees who use the same facial expressions, tone of voice and hand movements when trying to convey entirely differing emotions. So perhaps it's actually less the sci-fi genre that kept Maslany from getting an Emmy nomination, but rather her out of this world performance that was too multi-layered to be understood by those with one dimensional minds. Maybe between now and next year Tatiana can start a cumulative mind-meld with the Emmy voting participants and finally achieve the nomination and ultimate win that all of her admirers wish for her. To paraphrase Sarah Manning-- Get your shit together, you silly tits.
  4. I just can't say how much I enjoy this show and never get tired of watching the amazing Tatiana Maslany who singularly owns all of these characters and brings them to life with seeming effortlessness. In just this episode she transformed from Alison who measures a dead body to make sure it fits the hole she's capably dug after controlling a jackhammer her husband can't even tame, to cool, air kissing and conniving Rachel (who's slowly but subtly losing her shit), to Cosima, who's potentially going to die but still retains her sense of humor in spite of it, to Sarah, who's a loving but conflicted mother and yet, no matter what precautions she takes, is ultimately betrayed again, to Helena, who in spite of her history of inhumane torture and deprivation becomes both protector and justifiable executioner. And that's just for starters. In this role Maslany is just a master class in acting and her genius, in my opinion, is unparalleled by any other actress her age. Loved Cosima's humor when skyping with Sarah and Alison and mentions the nasal cannula: Cannulalingus. Ha!. Only Alison would have pink duct tape. (Although after seeing the wretched pink room Rachel has constructed for Kira, I wouldn't put it past her to have some, too.) But Helena isn't a psychopath. She's been conditioned to be a killer of the clones but, in my opinion, she hasn't killed anyone else without reason and justification. She blamed Amelia for all of the torture, deprivation and cruelity she was subjected to. Now she's killed Henrik but I think for her, being brainwashed/conditioned with so much religious ideology forced upon her, she sees it as just an "eye for an eye" consequence. Most importantly, Helena has shown empathy for quite a few people and a psychopath has none. Sarah-phile, I didn't notice that anyone answered your question so I wanted to let you know that there were at least a couple of boys in the nursery. Watched the episode repeat and noticed that the scene where you see the long shot of the back of Rachel standing in front of the screens after putting the hoodie on her head was edited out. Has anyone else noticed scenes being deleted when the episode is repeated?
  5. Count me among those who laughed out loud when Helena put Henrik through the insemination procedure, especially the humilating process of spreading and strapping his legs to the bed. Then, too, picking up the specimen containers and pretending to read them to him before deciding. Cow, horse. Guess it ended with him literally burning in a hell of Helena's making. Can't wait until they find that corpse, crispy but burned into position. I involuntarily uttered Holy Shit! as soon as I saw Rachel put that hoodie over head, as it signaled to me that she was "trying on" Sarah. The payoff was terrific. Also, did anyone notice the long shot of Rachel from behind after her dress rehersal? I wasn't sure if it showed her with long dark hair then or if that was just the back of the hoodie. How creepy as hell was it when Rachel was laughing while drinking that martini and watching herself as child with her parents? LovinLife I kind of assumed when Rachel called that Dr. Nealon (?) for help, it was to have him fake whatshisname's (Benjamin?) picture and information on the PC and send it for Delphine to find. Could most definitely be mistaken, though.
  6. Shapeshifter, I honestly don't believe that Paul has ever been in love with Sarah unless it was a "love at first sight" kind of thing and neither one of them seem the type. As to whether or not he was in love with Beth, we know she surely didn't think so (as you stated) and Paul has never seemed to mourn or show any sense of loss with regard to her death. So, I'm hard pressed to believe he ever loved her, which, unfortunately, means she was correct in her perceptions. Carrie Ann, thank you for making that clarification about Paul working for a defense contractor. I keep forgetting that point and it's important not to. Regarding Tony and Sammy, it did seem to me that there had been some kind of sexual relationship going on, as Tony said Sammy didn't "care what was between [his] legs". That kind of statement implies something a little more intimate than simply being buddies. To me, if you were only friends there would be no reason to comment on whether or not he cared about what is or was there. Additionally, if Sammy was indeed Tony's monitor and they weren't sexually involved he would be the first. Every clone that we know of right now has had or is having an intimate relationship with her monitor. Excluding Sarah and Helena, of course, because they have no monitors. Rachel/Daniel, Beth/Paul, Alison/Donnie, Cosima/Delphine, Jennifer/Monitor boyfriend.
  7. Undoubtedly I'm in the minority but I really enjoyed this episode. One reason is because, to me, Orphan Black isn't simply a sci-fi show about cloning but it's also multi-layered in that it addresses many issues we currently struggle with in the real world. While the fundamental one seems to be the right to own one's body, others include individual autonomy, reproductive rights and human sexuality. Each of these issues is addressed in almost every single episode, not really ever in a heavy handed way but sometimes in ways so subtle I don't even realize it at first. This show can certainly stir up alot of different emotions at any given time, though. It can make me laugh, make me angry, make me question but most importantly, it makes me think. Regarding Tony, I like him. From his pushing buttons to his testing boundaries. There was no drama with regard to his being a clone because he'd already worked out all of his identity issues long ago. He's secure in who he is and unlike Alison, who once said "I'm not even a real person", Tony is simply, "I'm Tony and you're not". His hair, whether on his head or on his face, is fine with me because everyone looks different and that's only a part of what makes us uniquely individual. Even Tony's kissing Felix didn't bother me as it seems to have some people but then, in my opinion, it was just Tony testing boundaries, again. Trying to push those buttons to see what would happen. And the result wasn't shock or revulsion on Felix's part, as he simply said, he was quite aware of sexual fluidity. Don't misunderstand, I do believe Felix had some confusing/conflicting feelings but tried to disguise it with his nonchalance. Watching this episode a couple of times helped me to get beyond the initial wow factor and just try and figure out Tony's purpose. I found it to be two-fold, actually. On one hand he was there to deliver a message to Beth, which, in turn, caused Sarah to ask if Paul was really a good guy afterall. The fact that Sammy, Tony's monitor and Paul were both in the military does make me wonder if they are aware of some connection to Project Leda since that seems to also be related to the military from what's been said. (Separate from their possibly knowing each other from Afghanistan) Also, could the "keep the faith" part be a reference to the Prolethians? The other purpose, I think, was to provide a showcase for Felix, the clever sister kisser, where we saw, to even more effect, that he's not easily thrown by anyone or anything. He was equal to the game regardless of what Tony tried to shock him with or how he tried to do it. I do think that there was more to it than simply that, though. And I just have to say how much I loved and laughed at Felix's "Holy Tilda Swinton!" I kept thinking Tatiana Maslany was using some kind of voice modulator in order to achieve a lower register. Is that possible? I must say, too, what a noble man Scott turned out to be. Lastly, I just want to know if it's mandatory that each monitor be sexually involved with their individual clone? Because every single one is either a husband, boyfriend, girlfriend or fuck buddy. I just don't understand how that can be dictated since there is no way to predict or guarantee that each clone will even be attracted to that person much less want to be intimate with them.
